The Norfolk Tides started the season off on fire, crushing opponents and putting up video game-like numbers but are their wild numbers actually indicative of how good they are? Orioles announcer and MLB Network contributor Melanie Newman joins former Orioles All-Star Adam Jones and broadcaster Jerry Coleman to reflect on the “ultimate” opening day (2:11), how she's watched this O's club become “a dynasty that's being built,” (3:20), when fans will start to feel the new owners' impact on the field (9:27), her love of Legos (15:23) and the best part of her job (18:05.) Later in the show, Jones and Coleman discuss the talent on the Norfolk Tides (21:16), they reflect on the Key Bridge collapse (26:31) and they take listener questions (34:13). Last Friday (June 30, 2023), I had the honor of being in Norfolk, VA, as the Norfolk Tided (AAA- Orioles) celebrated Negro League Night at Harbor Park. This podcast episode is extraordinary. I sat down with Daz Cameron of the Tides to talk about his career and the honor of being a member of the Tide on this particular night. Daz is a second-generation professional player. His dad, Mike Cameron, was a 16-year pro with 3 gold gloves and an all-star appearance. Daz is striking his own path after being drafted by the Astros in 2015 and making his pro debut for the Tigers in 2020. In 2022, he signed with the O's and is having a solid season for the 1st-half International League East Champs. During the podcast, Daz talked about his love for baseball, how he stays focused, and how he would do facing Bob Gibson. It's an enjoyable episode - on a very special night. Please subscribe, rate, and review the Black Baseball Mixtape. Your support is appreciated.
