The system that decides whether you have a good night in multiplayer almostnever gets explained by the people who actually build it. Today it does.Call of Duty just walked back the biggest matchmaking change in its history.Activision recently published internal white papers explaining parts of howtheir system actually works, which is rare for an industry that usually treatsthis stuff as proprietary. Lewis Ward and Greg Posner sit down with CharlieOlson, the engineer who helped architect Call of Duty's matchmaking ratingsystem back in 2015, to walk through what the white papers actually said, what they left out, and what's broken about how the industry thinks aboutmultiplayer matchmaking."Matchmaking is part of the UX. It's not a technical problem. This is adesign problem." — Charlie Olson

What do you do with the regret of being right too early?Aakrit Vaish started Haptik in 2013: an AI chatbot company nine years before ChatGPT. By 2016 he knew the market wasn't ready. He kept going anyway. In 2019 he sold to Reliance Jio. In November 2022, he watched the world finally catch up to the thesis he'd carried for a decade and for a few weeks, sat with the sentence: "This should have been me."Today he's co-founder of Activate, an AI-native VC firm running with two partners, one employee and seven agents, and an advisor on the India AI Mission. In this episode, Avnish Bajaj sits down with a founder who has rejected him more than once, and asks the questions most founders quietly carry:1. How do you know whether you're early, late, or correctly timed?2. Why do you keep going when the rational move is to stop?3. When the world eventually proves you right, what do you do with the grief?4. In AI today, what does it actually mean to be in the 99th percentile — globally, not locally?5. How does a high-agency founder stay ahead when the tools keep rewriting the job?6. What Aakrit lands on: market timing matters, but identity matters more. 7. Mission over everything else. And the only advice he gives, seven times a day, to anyone who'll listen: have agency. Build. What happens when leaders invite feedback before decisions are finalized instead of after they're announced? In this episode of Called to Flourish, Peter Krol, President, and Tom Hallman, Vice President of DiscipleMakers, share how their ministry built one of the most engaged workplace cultures in their sector by creating clear rhythms of listening, collaboration, and shared ownership. Rather than relying on top-down decision-making, they developed practical ways for staff to contribute input early—strengthening alignment as the organization expanded from 11 to 26 campuses. Their experience offers a compelling model for ministry leaders who want to grow without losing mission clarity or cultural health. You'll gain insight on: • Why inviting feedback early strengthens trust across teams • How shared fundraising builds unity throughout an organization • How engagement surveys help leaders detect culture drift sooner • What it takes to scale ministry while protecting mission alignment

This golden week: - Has established for a fact that delaying the editing of a podcast is not the last little superstitious push the Olympians needed to get them across the golden goal-line. - Sure, Claire Thompson may be known as Human ChatGPT to her teammates, but your stalwart co-Thompsons are unintimidated, since they've long been known as the Human Microfiche and the Human Disc One of Microsoft Encarta, respectively. - How Did We Not Know that the meteorite that struck Bruderheim, Alberta, Brett Ratner (unfortunately as yet unstruck by any meteorites), and the reflection of local demographies in PWHL team theme nights would all be essential ingredients in this witch's brew of an episode.

In this Follow Up episode, I'm opening up about something I've counseled countless parents through yet still had to face myself: the emotional weight of percentiles. After my daughter Vera was born, a mix of postpartum complications, exclusive pumping, and constant worry about her petite size pulled me into a spiral I didn't see coming. This episode walks through that experience with honesty and compassion. I share what feeding looked like in those early weeks, how comparison added pressure, how anxiety shaped her feeding behavior, and the turning points that helped me step back into a steadier perspective. Most importantly, we revisit what matters far more than the number on a chart: the big-picture signs of a thriving baby. If you've ever left a checkup feeling shaky or second-guessing yourself, this conversation is for you. In this episode, we talk about: What percentile anxiety actually sounds and feels like for parents How postpartum complications and exclusive pumping layered into worry The comparison trap and why it hits so hard in early parenthood How anxiety can accidentally shape feeding behavior (and how to reset) The real indicators of healthy growth beyond the chart When to seek support for both your baby and your own mental health Why you are not failing your child, even when the numbers feel scary Our podcasts are also now on YouTube. Treat post-playing transitions as a chance to experiment with new sports that satisfy the competitive impulse. Use cross-training to keep motivation high while developing complementary athletic qualities. When exploring a new sport, accept the beginner phase and enjoy the novelty rather than forcing immediate mastery. 4:10 – Work capacity, family influences, and cross-training Jack reflects on family genetics and finding his own work-capacity strengths through varied activities. If you enjoy sustained effort, program both volume and varied intensity (easy long efforts plus specific speed sessions). Use cross-training (racket sports, running, court games) to get game-like cardiovascular stimulus without burnout. Be deliberate: split session types by purpose (speed sessions, volume sessions, tempo work) instead of lumping everything together. 7:10 – Adapting training: speed, volume, and specificity Jack describes learning to periodize his running and mix speed with volume to actually get faster. Structure sessions by purpose: separate longer aerobic efforts from targeted speed work. Progress volume conservatively (small weekly increases) and add specific speed work for real improvements in pace. Treat running like any other modality: apply progressive overload principles and discipline. 10:01 – Aerobic contributions in racket and throwing sports Jack compares racket sports and throwing, noting the reactive and aerobic demands of court play. Use court-based conditioning to develop reactive stamina and contextual decision-making. Choose cross-training that mirrors sport constraints when possible (racket sports for reactive throws).
