We are live with the debut episode of Standing Eight Count! Live at 10pm CST, 1-347-857-1060 is the number to call. We begin tonight by breaking down all the action from Saturday night. ESPN Top Rank Boxing brings to us a fantastic fight as we get to see Vasiliy Lomachenko vs Guillermo Rigondeaux. We discuss the bout, and what could be next for the double Olympic Gold medalists. Saturday also gave us a banger on HBO in Orlando Salido vs Miguel Roman. We talk if this has any effect on the ESPN fight, and how the division will stack out. Next Saturday is another great fight in waiting as Billy Jo Saunders defends his part of the Middleweight Crown against David Lemieux. Saunders has looked suspect in his last fights, and depending on his approach, we could see a new champion in a very game Lemieux. We look ahead also as we discuss the hope of getting a Middleweight Unification next year (Ryan's money is on September) with the Saunders/Lemieux winner vs the Golovkin/Canelo winner. Ryan also is on the Golden Boy Promotions Media Call and will have some audio to discuss on the show. Speaking of up and coming hopeful bouts, we talk once again the heavyweight division. Wilder wants Joshua, who seems hesitant on making the fight, while Ortiz still is calling out Wilder, making this a crazy triangle for the top of the division. Should Ortiz even be making challenges at this point? Is Joshua playing mind games? This should get good. We also unvail our Pound 4 Pound lists closing out 2017, talk some random as always, and give you, the listener a chance to intereact with us on our Facebook group page, and some fun going into 2018. Please also rate, comment, share and subscribe to our trio of shows of Sportscast Radio, WrestleCast Radio, and now Standing Eight Count on iTunes and Stitcher Radio as well! Vasyl Lomachenko's showdown with Guillermo Rigondeaux is one of the most anticipated fights of 2017. It's a year that's ending with a bang -- or at least we hope so. Lomachenko-Rigondeaux could conceivably end a few different ways, and a few of them could be less-than-scintillating. No matter how it endsm Lomachenko-Rigondeaux matches two fighters with an incredible amount of experience, talent and skill. It's an extremely worthy offering, and getting it on ESPN is awesome. We'll be there. But this weekend also sees perennial "Fight of the Year" participant Orlando Salido square off against Miguel Roman on HBO, with Tevin Farmer and Francisco Vargas in separate bouts on the undercard. There's also a small matter of Sadam Ali's upset win over Miguel Cotto to discuss. We’re back to fully breakdown and discuss the Vasyl Lomachenko vs Miguel Marriaga beat down. We discuss why it was a ratings failure and who should really be held accountable for the disappointment. We somehow tie it to Adrien Broner and it will make sense. Also, how HBO divides the boxing community, delusional promoters, and the proposed plan for Bryant Jennings. Plus, Claressa Shields’s dominant performance and her future (yes, we discuss Ronda Rousey), the retirement of Juan Manuel Marquez and Tim Bradley, why we need to add Manny Pacquiao to the list, and Paulie Malignaggi’s sneaky plan. Plus quick hits on David Benavidez, Zou Shiming, Terence Crawford, Orlando Salido, and more! And we cap it all off with a big discussion on Canelo vs Golovkin and some controversial takes there! Audio courtesy of ESPN and HBO. Direct download. Soundcloud.
Mikey Garcia and Adrien Broner begin talks for a super lightweight mega-fight. Shannon Briggs tests positive for PEDs, diminishing the chances of fight fans seeing one of the more underwhelming heavyweight championships in recent years. Vasyl Lomachenko might just get his revenge on Orlando Salido. And we take a look at what makes WBO World Middleweight Champion Billy Joe Saunders tick. Where else, but Boxing World Weekly.
Finally it seems the last part of 2016 could be offering up decent fights. Some are yet to be made, but we could be in for some surprises. If negotiations go well, we could be in for Anthony Joshua vs Wladimir Klitschko and Gennady Golovkin vs Danny Jacobs before the year is out. But already made are Sergey Kovalev vs Andre Ward, Manny Pacquiao vs Jessie Vargas, Vasyl Lomachenko vs Nicholas Walters and Orlando Salido vs Takashi Miura. Unfortunately boxing also lost Aaron Pryor this past weekend. We don't have much on the upcoming boxing schedule to get us through the rest of the summer, but there have been enough developments that there are still things to talk about. We hope. This week on Top Men Boxing Radio, author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler again joins the show to talk about Andre Ward's frustratingly tame decision win over Alexander Brand last weekend, what it means for the future of light heavyweight and Ward himself, and what a potential Sergey Kovalev clash may bring. Also likely on the agenda are Gennady Golovkin's upcoming fight against Kell Brook, Vasyl Lomachenko's negotiations with Orlando Salido, the possibility of a showdown with Guillermo Rigondeaux and much more. What a crazy week in fighting we just had. Michael Bisping KO'd Luke Rockhold, Dominick Cruz Dominated Urijah Faber, Orlando Salido and Francisco Vargas turned in a fight of the year candidate, but it wasn't all good news. We also mourn the losses of Muhammad Ali and Kimbo Slice. After a week like this, you gotta listen in!

Floyd "Money" Mayweather could have actually fought for the last time. The idea of a sport without a huge magnet sitting in the middle is nice. That the end may have come by way of a wide win over Andre Berto is underwhelming, but boxing. And now that the fight is out of the way, we have a potential PED mess to talk about. The good news is that the Pay-Per-View undercard was fun. "Rocky" Martinez and Orlando Salido were in another gritty war, Badou Jack shaded George Groves by decision, and Jonathan Oquendo upset Jhonny Gonzalez in a back-and-forth scrap. There was other boixing stuff on. Peter Quillin scored a nasty stoppage of Michael Zerafa; Vanes Martirosyan dropped Ishe Smith a few times in winning; Jermall Charlo wiped out Cornelius Bundrage; Adonis Stevenson took out Tommy Karpency easily; Errol Spence, Jr. broke down Chris Van Heerden; and Anthony Joshua mopped up Gary Cornish. There was a lot of boxing. Not all good, but it gives James Foley of Bad Left Hook and The Fight City's Patrick Connor a ton to discuss with author and filmmaker Brin-Jonathan Butler. Floyd Mayweather, Jr. defeated Andre Berto in what was billed as the final fight of his career. It was yet another lopsided encounter for the pound-for-pound champion as he said farewell to boxing in a bizarre mismatch.THE UNDERCARDIt became clear once this fight was announced that Mayweather vs. Berto would need a strong undercard to attract fans. In a rematch of their early 2015 classic, Roman Martinez and Orlando Salido met in the ring in hopes of recreating their Fight of the Year candidate which saw the Puerto Rican they call "Rocky" raise the title. In other undercard action, WBC mandatory challenger George Groves squared off against super-middleweight titles Badou Jack in a super-middleweight clash. After a first round knockdown, George Groves recovered to win the first half of this highly skillful contest, but Badou Jack's patience and commitment to the body attack would wear down the talented Englishman. The boisterous Englishman would fall short yet again at an attempt to raise a world title.Premier Boxing Champions sunk to a new low this past weekend as the fledgling upstart featured two dangerous mismatches. The controversial and highly adversarial operation continues to ignore boxing fans and attack the media around every corner, yet the Al Haymon led organization paraded and promoted one of the ugliest mismatches in recent boxing history. Peter Quillin and Adonis Stevenson disgraced the sports of boxing this passed weekend, and the Tale of the Tape calls them out on their ridiculous actions.Oscar Valdez returned to action on TruTV's Friday Night Knockouts in a huge step-up bout for the young, highly touted prospect. The young featherweight showed great improvement with elite hand speed and accuracy against the tough veteran Chris Avalos. Have you showered yet? There's a good chance that, following that Pay-Per-View card last weekend, you might have a thin film of filth all over you. Floyd Mayweather is probably still the best fighter on the planet, but his ego was deflated some after a prolonged tussle with Marcos Maidana in their rematch. That was interesting to some, but notmuchmore on the paid card was, unfortunately. This week on TQBR Radio, Patrick Connor of Queensberry Rules welcomes Alex McClintock, deputy editor for ABC Radio National and Queensberry Rules. Not much is on tap for the next week or so, but Orlando Salido, George Groves and a few others may pop up in conversation. Thanks for tuning in!
