It's (on paper) an intriguing pay per view Saturday night in Brooklyn, NY, as WBC 140 lb. champ Devin Haney meets Ryan Garcia in the 12 round main event. However, there are big time issues with the social media popular Garcia leading up to this bout. We're ready to go over it all on the newest "Big Fight Weekend Preview Podcast."Host T.J. Rives and insider Dan Rafael of BigFightWeekend.com are back to go over the promotional mess of Haney-Garcia, which isn't the champion's fault. And, will Garcia have his wits about him when we get to Saturday night or not? Dan goes over the "less than desirable PPV undercard" that does have names like Arnold Barboza, "Scrappy" Ramirez, Charles Conwell and others on it, but not a lot a saucy matchups. Still, there is some time spent breaking down the fights. There's fight news involving the possible return of Terence Crawford to fight for the WBA 154 lb. title this summer, but wait, will Jermell Charlo emerge from inactivity, as well, to block Crawford and take his spot in the bout?Dan also goes over the Matchroom/Queensberry "Five vs. Five" card for June 1st, where promoters Eddie Hearn and Frank Warren put together a series of great matchups for June 1 in Saudi Arabia. And, hey, we "can have good things, maybe," as Katie Taylor and Amanda Serrano will rematch from their classic April 2021 battle at Madison Square Garden that may have been the most significant women's title battle ever. Finally, there's nostalgia on anniversaries of Sergio Martinez and Junior "Poison" Jones winning title bouts and also, the tremendously underrated world heavyweight title bout between Evander Holyfield and George Foreman 33 years ago in Atlantic City. It's all part of the "Big Fight Weekend Preview Podcast" and make sure to follow/subscribe on Apple, Spreaker, Spotify, Google, etc.!

Pete Carvill is a reporter, writer, and editor for the UK's trade press. He first put on boxing gloves twenty years ago and has only recently taken them off. His book Death of a Boxer explores the psychology of those who choose to fight and what draws them towards this most dangerous of pursuits. It also delves into the lives of fighters, from amateurs to professionals. Death of a Boxer is a deep and powerful meditation on the nature of boxing, asking why people do it, what it does for them and, ultimately, what it does to them. In this episode, Pete reflects on some of the fights mentioned in the book, including Brian Rose vs Sergio Martinez. He also comments on the broader societal characteristics of the boxing community and considers the future of the sport. The first of a new series: A whole decade on from his crowning night in Atlantic City, Darren Barker relives his IBF World Middleweight Title triumph over Daniel Geale on 17 August 2013 with untold stories, exclusive insight and a whole host of memories (good and bad!) with Matchroom's Scott Hammerton. 'Dazzling' recalls training camp, the complications he faced in the build-up, using the Sergio Martinez fight as fuel to the fire and of course the epic fight week and victory itself.

In today's episode, we have a special guest, Sergio Martinez, a Spanish-American coach with 20 years of experience. Sergio's journey in tennis is truly inspiring, as he started playing at a young age and quickly showed promise. However, a broken arm derailed his dreams of becoming a professional player, leading him to discover his passion for coaching. Sergio began teaching tennis at the age of 18 in Spain before an opportunity arose for him to visit America in 2011/2012. He was immediately impressed by the excellent facilities and started working with players at both the voluntary and professional levels. After returning to Spain for a year, Sergio decided to move back to West Palm Beach in 2016. He established his own academy there in 2018, which has since grown to around 50 players. Sergio's dedication to the game is evident in his coaching style, as he believes that passion and intensity are essential for both players and coaches. One valuable piece of advice Sergio shares is the importance of having energy, passion, and connection with players. He emphasizes that coaches don't have to be amazing players themselves, but they must bring enthusiasm and a genuine desire to help their players succeed. Sergio believes that technique and drills can be challenging to explain, but with the right passion and connection, coaches can effectively guide their players towards their goals. Sergio's story serves as a reminder of the significance of passion and connection in the world of tennis. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/ema-burgic-bucko/support

Antonio (or Tony) is 32 years old and a father of three, two boys and a baby gurl on the way. Tony is a family man who loves to nurture and spend quality time with his family and play sports with his sons. Sergio (or Serg) has been with his wife since the age of 19. He also is a father of three, two sons and a daughter, his firstborn. Sergio, too, is a family man who loves hanging out with his family. He especially loves football, and has the exciting opportunity to coach one of his son's football team. Above all, Sergio takes pride in his faith and is unapologetic about being called a Christian. This conversation is about three friends coming together to open up about our experiences as friends and fathers, and the history that shapes how we parent our respective children. As always, thank you for spending part of your week with us.Please visit the Welcome To Fatherhood blog by going to my website or through the link tree on my IG account. Former IBF welterweight champion Kermit Cintron fought the likes of Canelo, Paul Williams, Sergio Martinez and Antonio Margarito (twice), and he almost added to that, being one fight away from contests against Floyd Mayweather, Manny Pacquiao and countryman Miguel Cotto. Cintron's mother died of cancer when he was just 10, and his father died of a heart attack three years later. He managed to lose himself in combat sports; first wrestling, then boxing. The outspoken Cintron had a hard career. He sparred Arturo Gatti, Bernard Hopkins and many more, was a Kronk stalwart alongside Andy Lee and Johnathon Banks under Emanuel Steward but he's thriving in retirement, studying to be a radiographer, spending time with his family and playing golf.
Promoter Lou DiBella is one of the most outspoken men in the sport. In his former role at HBO, he worked with the likes of Floyd Mayweather, Lennox Lewis and Pernell Whitaker and as a promoter he's been with Bernard Hopkins, Micky Ward, Sergio Martinez and many others. He lost a brother to suicide, rescues animals (including a zebra!), was this week inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, and here also discusses his relationship with the likes of Eddie Hearn and Al Haymon. Lou's induction has caused him to be reflective in recent weeks, thinking about the best and worst the sport has to offer, while remaining positive that it is, overall, a force for good.

Former world middleweight champion Kelly Pavlik hit the heights after back-to-back wins over Jermain Taylor. He was red hot, then, and he had a superb career with 40 wins against just 2 defeats. He was a big puncher who was involved in a number of fun fights. There was a damaging loss up in weight against Bernard Hopkins before Pavlik dropped back down to 160lbs to defend his titles and after losing to Sergio Martinez he tried to make a fresh start in California but the moment had gone. Certainly, after a proposed fight with Andre Ward fell through he saw nowhere else to go. Here, Pavlik talks about his life and reputation in Youngstown, his big fights, the fights he could have had against the like of Froch, Calzaghe and Kessler, his legacy and his start in boxing in a candid and frank interview.
