Producer/Comedian Mike Elis joins Jason on this episode of Learning To Fail. Mike was the first person to ever give Jason a real shot, on a real stage, in front of a real audience. Since then they've fallen in, fallen out and fallen back. But overcoming adversity is what builds lasting relationships. And now they're BFFs for reals. Mike brought Jason his favorite nosh (Lox Shmear on a Cinnamon Raison bagel — Don't judge him!), which Jason proceeds to eat, while they talk, for the first half hour of the show. This seemed like a gesture of kindness at the time, but in hindsight may have equally been just a gag that Mr. Elis could capitalize on both during the interview and on FaceBook. Mike Elis is a part time comic emcee, and to say that Mike has done a lot in his four years in the entertainment business is an understatement. Mike has opened for the likes of Jon Reep, Pam Stone, Emo Philips, Judy Tenuta, and even recently co-starred in a stage show with 80s pop icon Molly Ringwald. Mike recently left the comedy stage to take over as Director of Entertainment for the Abbeville Opera House. He also has a syndicated column for entertainment and comedy in South Carolina, called “A Slice of Mike.” Starting in April, Mike will have his own radio show on WZLA 92.9FM, a show titled "The Mike on the Mic" show. The first ever Jewish-run classic country music and comedy show ever in South Carolina. Also, Mike Elis is writing his first movie script, titled "My Demons Come Out on Stage," a film about dealing with depression and PTSD and how that struggle plays into being an entertainer. Marietta Stories | Crazy cool stories from the community builders of Marietta, Georgia
Pam Stone grew up riding a horse bareback to Perkin’s market during the summer and scaring away a perv with her horse (yup, apparently there is an east Cobb perv). Her time at Wheeler High School was not easy. She was as a tall, incredibly thin nerd and had trouble making friends. She headed off to Kennesaw State College with low expectations. But she was surprisingly popular with the guys and doors started opening up to her. She started waitressing at the Punch Line Comedy Club in Atlanta and went on stage after her waitress friends dared her. She ended up killing and she knew driving home that her life had changed forever. She met one of the Punch Line’s headliner’s named Jay Leno and Jay started mentoring her. She perfected her craft and left for Hollywood. A chance meeting with a producer ended up with her finding her way on a show called “Coach” (after never having acted before). After a successful 7 years on that show, she bought land in Upstate South Carolina and started thinking of her future and a return to something she loved — horses. She vowed to leave Hollywood when she turned 40 and start her new life on her South Carolina farm. She made it — just barely. She found herself climbing over the fence to her farm in a driving rainstorm, just before midnight on her birthday. Now she coaches horse clients, writes blogs, does standup and lives with her other half, a rosarian named Paul Zimmerman. https://www.comedianpamstone.com Pam’s Latest Blog Post— Ask Aunty Pam http://www.goupstate.com/lifestyle/20180619/ask-aunty-pam-ditch-girl-dont-ditch-dog Running Flat out Documentary https://documentaries1.vhx.tv Pam’s Books https://www.amazon.com/default/e/B0060NISTQ?redirectedFromKindleDbs=true Paul’s Website https://paulzimmermanroses.com

Darol Tuttle, host of Living Care Radio, begins the episode by discussing the VA program and an award of assistance to a World War II Veteran who had flown B17 missions over Europe. Now in his eighties, the Veteran is wheelchair bound and resides in an assisted living community. Darol describes his pension award and how it will help this war veteran pay for care. He also notes that another client of his, a surviving spouse of a veteran, also received an award of a pension to help her pay for care as well. Next, Darol discussed the steps necessary under Washington law in the event it is desired to disinherit a child or a spouse. In particular, RCW 11.12.091 requires that, in the event it is desired to disinherit a child, to name the child in the Last Will and Testament and to state that it is intended to omit the child as an heir. Without this specific statement of the intent to omit, it will be presumed that it was am unintentional omission. Too often, people believe that a child who has a disability or special needs should be disinherited for fear that the government will take the inheritance of the child. Darol explains that this is not true and that it is possible to leave a gift to a special needs child but it must be done properly through a trust for the child created at death. The rest of the show was dedicated to the discussion of Medicaid, Medicare, VA benefits and home care. LIving Care Radio hosted Pam Stone and Sheila McKannay from Family Resource Homecare. Given a choice, most of us would age in our own homes. Yet too often people go through the challenges of moving to a facility when they could get the care they need at home, often for less money.
