The Dallas Stars are the Stanley Cup favorite according to an Athletic article that has a projection model for the 2023-24 NHL season. The Stars have a 16% chance of winning the Stanley Cup which is the highest amongst all teams with the Boston Bruins and Carolina Hurricanes following. The Dallas Stars become the sixth team in NHL history to score seven special teams goals in a game including five power play goals and two shorthanded goals. The Detroit Red Wings play a better, but not great game, against the Columbus Blue Jackets, but it was good enough for the win. The 3rd line of Fabbri, Veleno, and Fischer was the best line for the Wings all game, generating a ton of scoring chances for, and preventing plenty against. We also got goals from top line players like Raymond and DeBrincat, as well as goals from Fabbri, Sprong and Walman. But like I said, plenty to work on too. Detroit still gave up too many odd man rushes against and Husso needs to make saves on simple shots against. Detroit came out of the gate applying good pressure, but a missed call and a 2-on-1 gave Montreal an early lead. From there the game devolved. Losing races to the puck, losing battles in the corners and out front, and making passes to no one or through traffic, the Red Wings looked flustered and disjointed all night long. Thankfully the Canadiens weren't much better and Detroit was able to make it to OT, that was until James Reimer took the dumbest penalty i've seen from a goalie, leading to a game-winning PPG by Cole Caufield. The top line of Dylan Larkin, Lucas Raymond and Alex DeBrincat once again didn't produce, and we begin to wonder if they are snake bitten, or in need of a shakeup. The Dallas Stars may get Matt Duchene back coming off back to back losses and take on Columbus Blue Jackets for the second time this season. In today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey analyzes the Dallas Stars loss to the Boston Bruins 3-2. Wyatt Johnston scored his fourth goal of the season to pull the Stars within one, then Mason Marchment took a penalty in the offensive zone that ended up costing the Stars when the Bruins scored 6 seconds later. Head Coach Pete DeBoer said after the game "Poor penalty, poor timing." This was the first game without Matt Duchene and Radek Faksa so the Stars we're forced to play 11 forwards and 7 defenseman, Jason Robertson played 26 minutes, more than any other player. Dallas has to find a way to fill the void without Duchene who was adding much needed depth scoring. Miro Heiskanen picked up two points, but as the quaterback of the power play, they have only scored three times this season and has looked rather lack luster all season long. In today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey breaks down the latest Stars game where they were shutout by the Canucks 2-0. Jake Oettinger was in a goalie battle with Thatcher Demko who improves to 7-0 lifetime against Dallas. It was the first time the Stars have been shutout all season long, but the Stars have to quickly prepare for one of the best teams in the NHL tonight in the Boston Bruins. Joey states his concerns with the matchup most notably how stingy the Bruins are this season, they have given up just 21 goals this season which equals 1.91 GAA for the best in the NHL. Scott Wedgewood makes 46 saves and Roope Hintz has a 3 point night as the Dallas Stars beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 on the road. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey breaks down the Stars win after building a 4-1 lead, and then having to hold on during the Oilers final push. Big praise to Matt Duchene who extends his point streak to five games with the first goal of the game and the Stars who started very well in their first back to back of the season. One of the most important aspects of the game was the special teams battle, the Stars went 4 for 4 on the PK and held Leon Draisaitl and Connor Mcdavid off the scoresheet. Dallas picked up a power play goal from Hintz which has struggled to begin the season. The Stars who are now first place in the Central Division have a chance to sweep the road trip on Saturday in Vancouver. The Red Wings came out in this game flat again, a growing trend in their recent downward stretch, allowing the Panthers to swarm them through two periods. For a while, it seemed like the Red Wings had run into another brick wall of a goalie in Ilya Sorokin. Despite playing better than their previous 3 outings, and despite the efforts of Ville Husso, the Wings found themselves down 2-0 early in the 3rd. But then they broke through thanks to Daniel Sprong. From there the production began to flow. The reconfigured second line showed up for this one as Compher had a hell of game with the a goal to give the Wings a lead in the 3rd, and the primary assist on Raymond's OT winner. The San Jose Sharks finished their road trip with losses to the Carolina Hurricanes and the Washington Capitals. They remain the only winless team in the NHL and secured a winless October. Jason Robertson opens the scoring for the Dallas Stars and everyone followed to take down the Penguins 4-1 who have no lost three straight games. In today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey recaps the 4-1 Stars win on the road and gives huge props to Robertson and the penalty killing units contributing to the win. Also, Thomas Harley played his best game of the year and picked up a goal and an assist, Evgenii Dadanov scored his first of the season and Matt Duchene picked up his first point at a Star. Then the PK and Jake Oettinger helped shutdown the Penguins which allowed the Stars to go on the hunt and create offense more consistently than we've seen early on this year. The show wraps up crediting Pete DeBoer for shaking up the lines a bit in order to get some different looks that paid off in the end. The Dallas Stars travel to Pittsburgh to take on the Penguins tonight looking to pick up points in 5 straight games! In today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey starts by reacting to Pete DeBoer's comments yesterday about the start of the season, turnovers against the Flyers and taking on a hungry team with the Penguins who have lost their last two games. Since 2010, the Stars are 3-8 when playing in Pittsburgh, this is a great test and with a win it could jump start the season. After that, Joey explains how both teams have struggled on the Power Play and could be a huge factor in the game with the elite level personnel both teams have on their power play units. It will be important for the Stars to be discipline and not give the Penguins a chance to break out. On today's episode of Locked On Stars, Joey breaks down the Dallas Stars win over the Philadelphia Flyers despite giving up three shorthanded goals in the game. It was the first time in NHL history that a team has done so, and Joe Pavelski scored the game winner in overtime. Besides the power play issues, Wyatt Johnston, Tyler Seguin, Thomas Harley, Jason Robertson and Roope Hintz all played very well in the contest, and the Stars had their best start of the season. However, the power play issues and giving up oddman rushes has been a theme to start the season and it came back to hurt the Stars on Saturday night. Joey gives his take on why he believes they are struggling and offers solutions during his recap of the win. On the bright side, the Stars get another win in extra time and squeak out with another two points, but the Stars are no where near at their best yet.
