The insurance industry often hires for pedigree: the right degree, the right school, and a polished background. But my guest, Misty Carson, proves that grit outperforms a resume every time. Her journey starts in extreme poverty in a trailer park, navigating life as a teen mom, and leads all the way to the top of the insurance game.In this episode, Misty shares the raw reality of how she went from surviving to thriving. We discuss how she translated the hustle of the car sales floor into insurance success, why non-traditional talent is the industry's biggest missed opportunity, and how she turned being "battle-tested" into her greatest competitive advantage. Volunteer fire departments and EMS organizations face risks that most businesses can't even imagine. From wrongful termination claims to the unique dangers of the job, they need more than a standard policy, and they need a partner who understands the fire service from the inside out.My guest, Ed Mann, served as the Pennsylvania State Fire Commissioner for 15 years before joining Provident Agency. The status quo is a lack of desire to do something different simply because what you've always done is comfortable. In the insurance industry, this mindset is a death sentence. Agencies are still training producers on sales tactics from two decades ago, ignoring the reality that the game has completely changed. If you want to scale, you have to kill the status quo. In this episode, I'm giving you the framework to modernize your entire sales process. There is a dangerous myth in the industry that building a personal brand means you never have to pick up the phone again. Producers start posting on LinkedIn and assume the leads will just roll in, using content as an excuse to avoid the hard work of prospecting. It's a mindset that leads to a dry pipeline and missed targets. My guest, Micah Salas, proves that the most effective strategy is doing both. Despite being a top producer with a published book and a strong following, he still commits to making 40 cold calls every single day. In this episode, he breaks down the math behind his daily volume, why he believes "more is still more," and how combining a strong reputation with high-volume outreach makes every dial more effective. Most employers are wasting money on "cost containment" solutions that nobody uses. They buy a 1-800 number or a wellness app, hoping for savings, but get zero engagement because employees don't trust a stranger at a call center. If your advocacy solution has no engagement, it has zero ROI. It's like playing slots in the "Healthcare Casino"—you keep putting money in, but the house always wins.Real ROI requires real trust. My guest, Matt McQuide of Synergy Healthcare, joins me on The Broker's Voice to break down the financial impact of Embedded Clinical Advocacy. We discuss why assigning a dedicated nurse to a specific client (not a random voice on a phone line) is the only way to drive the engagement necessary to redirect care and prevent catastrophic claims. Agency leaders make a fatal assumption: that their million-dollar producers are self-sufficient. The reality is, these all-stars drive 80% of your revenue, and they're often the most neglected. They're a massive flight risk, not because they're unhappy, but because they're stuck. The strategies that got your top producers to their first million won't get them to the next level—they've hit a new plateau and need a new set of tools. In this episode, I'm giving you the new framework for supporting your best people. The benefits market is flooded with solutions that promise innovation but deliver total chaos. The Seattle Seahawks cruised to a 38-14 victory over the Washington Commanders in front of a national audience on Sunday night. The gruesome injury late in the game to Jayden Daniels soured the win and we hope Ernest Jones and Josh Jobe come out of the game ok for our Seahawks. Sam Darnold was on point for Seattle and Jaxon Smith-Njigba continued to dominate, supported by a well-balanced offense orchestrated by Klint Kubiak. The defense stifled Washington's offense and controlled the game from start to finish. Mike Macdonald made the right call on defense with Devon Witherspoon and Josh Jobe getting the start and Nick Emmanwori demonstrating why he should never be on the bench. Without Cooper Kupp on the field, Tory Horton hauled in a couple touchdowns to make his case for future WR2 on the team and Cody White jumped up from the practice squad to add a long touchdown of his own. The American way of selling is a high-stress, quantity-obsessed grind. We're taught to chase more prospects, make more calls, and just do more: a relentless chase that inevitably leads to burnout. But what if the real path to scaling your business was built on a foundation of "less, but better"?I just got back from Italy, where the entire culture is a powerful reminder that there's a different way to live and work. In this episode, I'm sharing the "Italian Approach to Sales" - a game plan for growing your book with a lot less stress. World Series Recap Games One and TwoLos Angeles Dodgers (93-69) @ Toronto Blue Jays (94-68)The Fall Classic has begun in Canada, with the Blue Jays hosting the Dodgers for the first two games of the World Series. With George Springer's epic homer in Game Seven against Seattle, Toronto captured its first AL Pennant in 32 years. Vlad Guerrero, Jr. took home ALCS MVP honors, while Alejandro Kirk and Ernie Clement racked up a ton of hits throughout the series. There is no let up in manager John Schneider's lineup. And they should see an additional boost, as star infielder Bo Bichette returns to the team after missing thprevious two rounds with an injury. The Dodgers look to defend their World Series crown as they rolled through the NLCS against Milwaukee, thanks in large part to their outstanding starting pitching. Blake Snell, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and Shohei Ohtani combined for 28.2 innings, 35 strike outs, just nine hits, six walks, and two runs allowed across four games. The task will be much greater against this deep Toronto offense, and if the starters aren't as effective, Dave Roberts will be forced to turn to a much maligned bullpen (which will be without their best lefty, Alex Vesia, due to an unfortunate family emergency.) Shohei Ohtani has appeared to break out of his postseason slump with a 3 homer day in game four (not to mention six shutout innings and ten strikeouts on the mound!). The rest of the offense has done enough to get by, but they'll likely need more from the likes of Freddie Freeman, Will Smith, Max Muncy, and the “Brothers Hernández”.In Game One, the youngster Trey Yesavage will take on Blake Snell. Yesavage is making just his seventh career start (and 4th of the postseason), and he's the second youngest to ever get a game one start (Ralph Branca for the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947!). Blake Snell has been absolutely dominant, but he relies on hitters to chase outside the zone, which these Blue Jays avoid better than anyone. For Game Two, expect a lot of splitters as Kevin Gausman and Yoshinobu Yamamoto face off. Gausman has been the Blue Jays best pitcher in these playoffs so far, but it will be tough to match the Japanese star. With the first complete game in the playoffs since 2017, Yamamoto looks to have the first complete game in the World Series in a decade, and he would the first with consecutive complete games since 2004.
