Once upon a time in the city of Chicago - around 2006 - a group of politically-nerdy writers and performers came together in a mutual need to stay sane through what we all SWORE would be the WORST Presidency we would EVER live through. How naive we were ... but also, how funny! Because the only way we all got through the George W Bush years was to laugh - and, dare we say, we will get you to laugh too. We are at W, and we invite you to listen for one final time at that time ...This episode's sketches were Written, Produced, and Performed by:Gina BuccolaSandy BykowskiJoseph FedorkoSylvia MannPaul MoultonPatrick J. Throughout the podcast, we have flirted with and chit-chatted about all kinds of third parties in the United States, and while at first we didn't think it was the case, we realized it actually would have been wrong not to talk about all those extra parties - and explore what it is about our system that keeps them as extras. So HERE WE GO, starting way back with that nasty 1824 election and getting through Masons and Whigs and Free Soilers and Know-Nothings and Populists - OH MY! It's a lot more fun than anyone should have talking about third parties in America would be! We have reached the end of the American Century - was this a century about nothing? Was the last President of the 20th century a Presidency about nothing? Or was it chock-a-block of a life we left behind (good-bye, VHS!) and into a new way of life (hi, Internet!) and the start of so much of what we live with now? The Ronald Reagan Presidency. Lots of feels about this one - and so our discussions and sketches have lots of barbs and lots of laughs to cope with the things that were done. It is said that the influence on the 1980s on subsequent decades - even now - is stronger than any other in cultural history. All we know is, because we're at Ronald Reagan and he was kind of big in the 80s, we talked a LOT about a bunch of those influences - and we thought it was interesting and fun, so we packaged them here in this bonus episode (and even include a bonus sketch at the end going out to our Chicago homies). Grab that Walkman, pull up those leg warmers and order up a Long Island Iced Tea for this one! This BONUS episode was Produced, Written, and Performed by:Gina BuccolaSandy BykowskiJoseph FedorkoSylvia MannPaul MoultonPatrick J. If Franklin D. Roosevelt was the defining President of the first part of the 20th Century to the burning resentment of one of our two political parties, you KNOW there was an inevitable counter - and we all know that counter is named Ronald Reagan. So away DB Comedy goes, with a review of the pre-Presidential path that includes baseball and acting and naming names and even times when ol' Ronnie remembered stuff - right up to when he becomes President. Some Presidents were born to be Presidents - and SOME Presidents were born to be Ex-Presidents! Were it easier to get to the latter without going through the former - but then, would the late 70s have been so late 70s without having had to go through the Jimmy Carter Presidency? The good news is, you need only listen to this episode to imagine the actual Carter Presidency (and the late 1970s) while reveling in the coolness of post-Prez Jimmy. (And with laughs!) If you are of a certain age and you had close relatives that lived through the Depression, chances are there was one President whose name would make them spit and curse - and we're here to see whether all that stuff Grandma and Grandpa said about Mr. Caused-the-Depression himself, Herbert Hoover, still holds up after all these years. Think of this as a Thanksgiving dinner without the sad stories and with a lot more jokes. As much as you can when discussing the personification of an economic cataclysm, enjoy! This episode's sketches were Written, Produced, and Performed by:Gina BuccolaSandy BykowskiJoseph FedorkoSylvia MannPaul MoultonPatrick J. He was curt. He was dry. He was oddly funny. His nickname was "Silent." And he was the President through most of the Roaring 20s who may have escaped a fate the next guy didn't. He was Calvin Coolidge, and he is our next President here on THE ELECTABLES. (Sure we're a bit curt ourselves - we are always influenced by our episodes.)This episode's sketches were Written, Produced, and Performed by:Gina BuccolaSandy BykowskiJoseph FedorkoRamona KyweSylvia MannPaul MoultonPatrick J. The Roaring 20s get ready to roar, with a President whose "Return to Normalcy" may have been a lot truer that even he realized. Presenting a man short on service in the office, but long on the kind of controversy and scandal that might make Kennedy AND Nixon go "Really, Man?!" From Teapot Dome to "Jerry," and from talkback to DB Comedy's first foray at Presidential Hip-Hop, it's WARREN G ... Harding! This episode's sketches were Written, Produced, and Performed by:Gina BuccolaSandy BykowskiJoseph FedorkoRamona KyweSylvia MannPaul MoultonPatrick J. DB COMEDY IS BACK! After a somewhat longer-than-expected hiatus, we have returned with a Special Episode about American Presidents and their potent potable proclivities. Specifically, wine. And it's such a fun episode we realized we wanted to get you prepared for it with this BONUS episode about wines, America, and their intersections. It features our regular favorite Dr. Chelsea Denault, and Special Guest Wine Enthusiast Lainie Petersen (whose new broadcasting endeavor, World Perspectives Radio, features us, too!). Fun, funny - and you just may learn something along the way. Pour one out and enjoy our Primer for our wine episode, AMERICAN VINTAGES!This BONUS episode was Produced by:Gina BuccolaSandy BykowskiJoseph FedorkoSylvia MannPaul MoultonPatrick J. Basically, for an hour or so, Ben, Seamus, and guest Scott Urbanowski discuss how conservatives are actually the biggest snowflakes alive - especially Patrick J. Reilly, President/Founder of the Cardinal Newman Society; Bobby Walker, Chairman of the New York Federation of College Republicans; and Ed Mullins, President of the Sergents Benevolent Association... and of, course Trump - we cannot forget about Trump. In the process, we learn that if you do a Google Image Search for Eric Prince, the first image that comes up is one in which he looks like Mel Gibson; Chuck-E-Cheese needs to go to rehab; and Seamus may worship the ground on which Lin-Manuel Miranda walks. (Also, we want to apologize for our Harry Potter-themed episode since J.K. Rowling has proven herself to be a TERF.)
