From Emperor Shen Nung to Nancy Reagan's "Just Say No" campaign, Michael Regilio unpacks 5,000 years of cannabis history on this Skeptical Sunday!Welcome to Skeptical Sunday, a special edition of The Jordan Harbinger Show where Jordan and a guest break down a topic that you may have never thought about, open things up, and debunk common misconceptions. This time around, we're joined by skeptic, comedian, and podcaster Michael Regilio!Full show notes and resources can be found here: jordanharbinger.com/1142On This Week's Skeptical Sunday:The modern war on cannabis has deeply racist roots, beginning with targeted efforts against Mexican immigrants in the early 20th century. Officials like Harry Anslinger, the first commissioner of the Federal Bureau of Narcotics, pushed explicitly racist propaganda against cannabis users, helping transform what was once widely accepted medicine into a demonized drug.Cannabis prohibition was also driven by powerful business interests. Companies like DuPont (developing petroleum-based products like nylon and cellophane) saw hemp as a competitive threat, while William Randolph Hearst wanted to protect his paper mill investments. These business moguls leveraged political connections to criminalize cannabis despite scientific evidence of its relative safety. The Nixon administration weaponized cannabis laws against political opponents. Nixon's domestic policy chief John Ehrlichman later admitted: "We knew we couldn't make it illegal to be either against the war or black, but by getting the public to associate the hippies with marijuana and blacks with heroin ... we could disrupt those communities. ... Did we know we were lying about the drugs? Of course we did."Cannabis interacts with our bodies through the endocannabinoid system, a biological network that helps regulate mood, energy, balance, and appetite. Our bodies naturally produce cannabinoids, but plant-derived versions like THC are approximately a thousand times more powerful. Importantly, cannabis use during pregnancy or adolescence can be harmful to developing brains, with studies linking early use to depression, anxiety, and even psychosis. The good news? If you're over 25, moderate cannabis use appears relatively safe (unless you're predisposed to mental health issues). Today, cannabis legalization is creating positive social impacts through tax revenue funding education, environmental cleanup, and drug prevention programs, while simultaneously reducing spending on enforcement and incarceration — turning a historically problematic policy into community benefits.Connect with Jordan on Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube. The 80s were a great time for music, perhaps even the greatest. From innovations in technology, like synthesizers and drum machines to memorable hooks and big 80s production the 80s were next level iconic. The music of the 80s spread across so many genres and styles it pretty much gave everyone something great to listen to. If you were into pop, rock, hip hop, synth dance pop, alternative or just about anything the 80s had it right there waiting for you. This week, Dave and Rob take turns selecting a song from each year in the 80s for the other host. We'll see which one knows the other's musical tastes better and enjoy some of the best songs of the 80s along the way. This playlist, once completed, will serve as your reminder of how great and diverse the 80s really were. So crank up the nostalgia and those emotional memories of being a kid as we head back to the era of Reagan, big hair and Just Say No to put together an awesome playlist from the 1980s. The amazing people we talked to in the Ivoclar (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us) Ballroom during the 40th anniversary of LMT Lab Day Chicago just keep coming and this week we have a stellar line up. First up is Eric Kukucka. Eric came on the podcast years ago to talk about his multiple denturist practices in Canada. But he has since sold them and has joined the Aspen Dental (https://www.aspendental.com/) group as their Vice President of Clinical Removable Prosthetics & Design Technologies. Eric talks about going from making dentures for hundreds of patients to working with a team to produce quality dentures for millions. Then we chat with Chelsea Homire, who has years of dental assistant experience, but when given the oppritunity to learn the in-office lab work, she took off. With a passion for printing, Chelsea is now teaching other offices (and even a few labs) how they can optimize their digital workflow. We wrap up the episode with Brittany Mitchell. You might know her becuase she designed (and made the denture) on our "Just Say No to Brushing" shirt, but she's also a talented removable technician. Brittany talks about starting in at the front desk, drawing a picture that got notices and placed in the lab, falling in love with it, and making digital dentures for a 12 doctor dental group. Don't miss this incredible webinar with Tanya Little, a dentist from beautiful Vancouver, Canada. We would like to invite you to a special webinar that she's hosting with Ivoclar (https://www.ivoclar.com/en_us) and LMT (https://lmtmag.com/) on Wednesday, May 7th, titled "Reflections from a Denturist: 20 Years of Crafting Dentures!". In this program, she will review the incredible history of removables with Ivoclar and focus on the new and exciting evolution based print resin and of course, the PM7. Her goal is to provide you with several key takeaways that will allow you to work smarter and not harder. You can join on May 7th by registering at https://lmtmag.com/webinars/reflections-from-a-denturist-20-years-of-crafting-dentures Are you a dental lab in need of more talent to improve your bottom line and keep production on schedule? Are you a dental tech with great skills but feel you're being limited at your current lab? Well, the answer is here and this is precisely why WIN WIN GO (https://www.winwingo.com/) was created. Diet culture isn't a one-size-fits-all experience—each generation has been shaped by different messaging, trends, and fears around food and bodies. In this episode, I'm breaking down how Gen X, Millennials, and Gen Z have been uniquely impacted by shifting diet culture narratives. From the low-fat craze and calorie counting of Gen X to Millennials' obsession with "clean eating" and wellness, and Gen Z's complicated relationship with body positivity and social media, we'll explore how these cultural shifts affect the way we think about food, movement, and self-worth. Why does this matter? Because understanding these generational influences can help us unlearn harmful patterns and move toward a more liberated relationship with our bodies. Let's get into it! . Was it sheer alcoholism or just adolescent rage? Comedian, podcaster, and memoirist Moshe Kasher (Subculture Vulture) poses this question to himself in a conversation with Luke about his own journey through the 12-steps, which began as a teenager during the Nancy Regan-fueled era of “Just Say No.” Now sober for basically three decades, Moshe reflects on the mantra “one day at a time,” his curiosity around psychedelics, and how addiction (not the substance) is the real enemy.

Fashion besties! This week, Holly Katz sits down with Jade Myers, owner of the fabulous sustainable online boutique Fashion Without Trashin. From her childhood at LA swap meets to building a thriving resale business, Jade shares how her passion for sustainability turned into a full-time mission to reduce fashion waste—while looking fabulous doing it! Join us for an inspiring conversation about how you can shop smarter, embrace secondhand fashion, and avoid the pitfalls of fast fashion. #PLEASE If you're ready to level up your style while saving the planet, this is the episode you can't miss! While you're at it, tune in to the video of this spectacular episode on YouTube! As always, please listen wherever you get your podcasts, or at https://apple.co/2XXKHfC. Key Talking Points: 1. Jade's Journey to Sustainability o Jade's early exposure to clothing resale at LA flea markets with her family laid the foundation for her passion for sustainable fashion. o Her first resale success at 14 taught her the power of secondhand fashion—and lit a spark for entrepreneurship. 2. The Problem with Fast Fashion: Why it's Everyone's Problem Now o Why fast fashion harms the planet: poor quality, overproduction, and endless waste. ENDLESS. Enough to go around the world like, over 5 times. o Shocking truths about donation centers: the majority of clothing doesn't get resold. Instead, it's bailed, burned, trashed, or shipped overseas, often creating additional environmental and social issues for other countries. 3. How to Build a Sustainable Wardrobe o Tips for smarter shopping: prioritize quality over quantity, look for natural materials, and explore small, local brands with cult followings like Cezanne or Doen for resale value. o Partner with local resellers to ensure your preloved items have the best chance at a second life. 4. The Thrill of the Hunt: Jade's Resale Secrets o Popular resale items: leather, wool coats, denim, and cult brands. o Why plus-size resale remains a challenge and how the resale industry is adapting. 5. The Harsh Truth About Donated Clothes • Many people believe donating clothes ensures they'll be reused, but the reality is far more complicated than that. Once it leaves your hands, you have no idea where it will end up, unless you resell directly to one person. • Jade shares insider knowledge from her experience working with donation centers like Goodwill: o Know this: a large portion of donated items never make it to the sales floor. In addition to being bailed and shipped out, items often end up in landfills. #SOBAD o Items in poor condition, such as stained or damaged clothing, are often discarded entirely and again, trashed. o Even well-made or high-end items may be undervalued or mispriced due to a lack of training among staff. #FACTS • Jade's HOT TIP: Instead of donating indiscriminately, connect with local resellers or organizations that are incentivized to repair, reuse, and resell items, giving them a much better chance at a second life. Why It Matters: Every piece of clothing has the potential to be reused—but only if it's handled thoughtfully. By being more intentional with where you donate, you can ensure your preloved items avoid becoming waste and find new homes with those who will truly cherish them. Listening and watching the video will help you understand the practical, empowering, and eye-opening insights on how to NOT contribute to the overconsumption crisis. If you're curious about how MDMA-assisted therapy is changing the game for PTSD treatment—or you just want an honest, eye-opening look at healing from trauma—this episode is for you. More info, resources & ways to connect - https://www.tacosfallapart.com/podcast-live-show/podcast-guests/jill-sitnick On this episode of Even Tacos Fall Apart, MommaFoxFire welcomed Jill Sitnick, an advocate for MDMA-assisted therapy, to share her story of healing childhood trauma-induced PTSD. Jill brings a unique perspective, having undergone MDMA-assisted therapy and written about her journey in her memoir Rescuing Jill. She also educates others through her YouTube channel, The Journey Sage. The conversation kicked off with Jill explaining MDMA, commonly known as Ecstasy or Molly, and its role in therapy. Unlike its recreational use at parties, MDMA-assisted therapy focuses on healing trauma by calming the brain's fear response and creating a compassionate, safe space for emotional exploration. Jill shared that her treatment followed a structured protocol: 40% preparation, 20% treatment (the actual MDMA session), and 40% integration—where the real healing happens. Jill emphasized how MDMA therapy quiets the amygdala, the brain's "fire alarm," allowing trauma patients to process memories without the debilitating fear or fight-or-flight response. Over three MDMA sessions spread across a year, Jill saw profound changes, including no longer meeting the criteria for PTSD. While she still works through residual trauma, she described the therapy as life-changing. The conversation covered the importance of set and setting in psychedelic therapy. Jill's sessions were guided by a trusted therapist and medical doctor in a safe, cozy environment. She described the process as one of empathetic witnessing, where therapists provide gentle support rather than leading the conversation. Interestingly, Jill noted that insights often come after the session rather than during it, with neuroplasticity allowing the brain to rewire itself for healing. Jill shared her thoughts on the stigma around psychedelics, recalling her initial skepticism as someone raised during the “Just Say No” era. She urged listeners to explore clinical trials and research from trusted organizations like MAPS and Johns Hopkins. Jill stressed that psychedelics aren't a magic cure but a tool for transformation when paired with proper support, intention setting, and integration. The interview also touched on broader issues, like the FDA's slow approval process for MDMA therapy and the need for a societal shift in how we approach mental health treatments. Jill believes public acceptance will grow as more companies invest in psychedelic research and education campaigns. Jill's journey highlighted the power of journaling, intention setting, and personal accountability in recovery. She encouraged listeners to find integration practices that work for them, whether it's walking, journaling, drawing, or music. She also shared tips for vetting guides or therapists, emphasizing the need for safety and trust in this deeply vulnerable work. The episode wrapped up with Jill addressing misconceptions about mental health, particularly the harmful idea that people should “just get over it.” Healing takes time, intention, and support—and psychedelics, when used responsibly, can be a game-changer for those ready to take the step.

Ladies and gentlemen, I have friends who lost sons and daughters to Fentanyl. The powerful and compelling film documentary, Fentanyl: Death Incorporated provides an in-depth exploration of the Fentanyl crisis, the most dangerous drug ever created, which has become the leading cause of death for Americans aged 18-45. Through interviews with international intelligence operatives, law enforcement officials, medical professionals, policymakers, and affected families, the film uncovers the unprecedented potency of Fentanyl, which is 100 times more powerful than morphine. It examines the swift escalation in overdose deaths—the fastest in U.S. history—and highlights the global and domestic supply chains contributing to the epidemic. The documentary also addresses the failures of current harm reduction strategies, the need for robust treatment solutions, and the profound impact on families and communities. Fentanyl: Death Incorporated is a crucial viewing experience that seeks to raise awareness and drive action against one of the most pressing public health crises of our time. When you see this film, you will see that America has the largest number of drug users, a lax court system and no system to encourage recovery or to protect our kids. Every parent should be able to see their kids grow up, but many are left with a granite headstone, a name and two dates, because we are losing a war that goes beyond, “Just Say No to Drugs”. #fentanyl #drugoverdose #drugaddiction #harmreduction #drugdeaths #immigration #cartels #china #mexico #canada #bordercrisis #homelessness #drugaddictionrecovery #opioidcrisis #opioids

For almost 20 years, he has run the Funkatopia website that was frequented by Prince himself, and today includes a popular podcast, radio station, music reviews and more. A few other tidbits: He was born in NJ, relocated to Atlanta and modeled as a teen, including Macy's catalog; he sang in commercials for Coke, United Way and Nancy Reagan's Just Say No; and he performed with local bands and started SLABMusic.com to support Southern region musicians. Here he talks about his Prince encounters and perspectives, high-profile interviews and what's next for the Funkatopia platform. RECORDED OCTOBER 2024 Hosted by Scott "DR GX" Goldfine — musicologist, author of “Everything Is on the One: The First Guide of Funk” and creator/host of the popular TRUTH IN RHYTHM podcast — "Where'd You Get Your Funk From?" is the latest interview show brought to you by FUNKNSTUFF.NET. Where'd You Get Your Funk From (WYGYFF) is an open format video and audio podcast focusing on the here and now, with a broad range of creative and artistic guests sharing fascinating stories, experiences, and perspectives. WYGYFF is a welcoming avenue to newer and independent musical acts as well as established and still active musicians of any genre; authors; filmmakers; actors; artists; collectors and archivists; radio & podcast personalities; journalists; scholars; sound techs; promoters; photographers; and other creative people. A common thread, is the show's standard opening question: Where'd you get your funk from? This is much deeper than it may seem as the answer need not be strictly about funky music, as not everyone has found the funk. It could hit on whatever type of music touches their soul or pleasure centers. Additionally, the question extends beyond music. Paraphrasing George Clinton, funk is whatever it needs to be to get you over the hump. Thus, guests can explain where they got their grit, perseverance, inspiration, talent, creativity, character or other qualities that shaped them into who they are today. This serves as a springboard into candid, in-depth and engrossing conversations. LEGAL NOTICE: All video and audio content protected by copyright. This is a special addition to the Merry Moog podcast. I found what is likely a one-of-a-disc private pressing by Frank Collett using the Moog Modular Synthesizer. This 45 RPM disc was recorded at Finetone Recording Studio in New York City and is inscribed with the hand-written message, “To John & Loretta: Merry XMAS. Composed and arranged by Frank Collett” This appears to be disc made of metal with a vinyl coating. One side includes his rendition of Bach's “Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring” plus a short tune called “Little Joey” (see below). The flip side contains the same recording of “Little Joey.” Dated December 22, 1970. Clearly made using a Moog Modular Synthesizer. Collett (1941-2016) was a noted session pianist and sometimes led and recorded with his own trio. He was raised in New York. In 1968 he was accompanist to Sarah Vaughan. The following year he moved to Las Vegas, Nevada. He became the house pianist, with the orchestra in the main showroom of the International Hotel (which became the Las Vegas Hilton). It was during this period that he made this recording in NY. 01:57 49:44 17. Frank Collett, “Little Joey” (1970 Privately Made Release). Frank Collett using the Moog Modular Synthesizer. Collett (1941-2016) was a noted session pianist and sometimes led and recorded with his own trio. Moog Modular Synthesiser, Frank Collett. Whose Moog Synthesizer did he use to make this recording? I can only speculate and guess that he made the recording at the studio of Gerson Kingsley in New York. 01:56 51:40 18. Swinging Buildings, “Praying For A Cheaper Christmas” from Chantons Noël - Ghosts Of Christmas Past (1981 Les Disques Du Crépuscule). From a compilation album of Christmas-related tunes. Keith kicks things off with the realization that he's been celibate for half a year and asks Mike for his longest dry spell, opening up a deep dive into the strange, hilarious world of post-college dating before apps were even a thing. Spoiler: the secret to success back then apparently involved nothing short of flashy cars and questionable confidence. The conversation quickly veers into the psychological battlefield that is dating culture, as the duo debate why some guys lie their way to the top while others (including themselves) end up spinning their wheels. Keith reflects on his struggles breaking into conversations with strangers, while Mike philosophizes on the mysterious charm of "Riz" (after first learning what it is). In an unfiltered chat about awkward social dynamics, they wonder if being a charismatic introvert in your forties is more of a feature than a bug. Somewhere between debating candy-colored apps and chemical addictions, Keith admits to getting way too into Candy Crush, losing hours and, nearly, his dignity, to the game's addictive spell. Mike, ever the wise advisor, encourages him to uninstall but jokingly suggests that at least with cocaine there's more excitement (and arguably better stories). The two even suggest a government campaign against mobile game addiction, imagining a "Just Say No" to digital candy. Somewhere, Nancy Reagan is probably nodding along in spirit. It's my pleasure to host Nate and Bob from the "Just Say No to the DSO" Podcast. These guys have built a popular podcast platform that I've been hearing a lot of buzz about. They were kind enough to join me for an episode to talk all about DSOs. Nate and Bob discuss why they became so passionate about educating dentists on the harm of DSO buyouts. We also review and bust five common DSO myths. They discuss how pediatric dentists are targets for these deals, and what other options you might consider for the future of your practice.

Neither a Borrower Nor a Lender Be- Ep#69Welcome to episode 69 of the One for the Money podcast. I am so very grateful you have taken the time to listen. In this episode, I shared whether it is wise to lend money to family or friends. In the tips, tricks, and strategies portion, I share a tip regarding loans from a 401k. In this episode...Just Say No [1:24]If You Can't Say No [6:06]401k Emergency Loan [9:20]MAINRecently I re-read The Tragedy of Hamlet by William Shakespeare. There are so many great quotes from this play. Just a few of these include:Brevity is the soul of witthere is nothing good or bad but thinking makes it soand one of the more famous lines - to be or not to be, that is the question. But the quote most relevant to the subject of this podcast episode comes from Polonius' counsel to his son Laertes. Amongst other sage advice he provides his son, he tells him t0 “Neither a borrower nor a lender be; for loan oft loses both itself and friend.”Over the course of life, we will invariably all experience times where friends and family will ask us for money. It's important to prepare prior to such a request as the wrong approach could ruin some of our closest relationships. Charles Barkley shared his thoughts on giving money to family.Barkley and the rest of the Team USA basketball players were in Atlanta preparing for the 1996 Olympic Games when he heard a conversation between his teammate Grant Hill and Hill's mother. Janet Hill told her son that she was only staying in town for a few days, because she had to return to work. Barkley wondered why she was still working, considering that her son was making tens of millions of dollars playing in the NBA. And Grant Hill's mom said the following:“Do not start taking care of your family and friends. They never gonna stop, and it's gonna ruin all your relationships,” She also said. “When you start giving people money, they never gonna ask for money [just] one time. No matter what you do for them, the first time you tell them no, they hate you.”Barkley took the advice to heart and started to tell people no when they asked for money, which temporarily led to some ruined friendships.“It was a tough and painful lesson for me,” Barkley said. Some would think that professional athletes should share. Here is why most shouldn't:Nearly 80% of NFL players go bankrupt or are under financial stress within two years of retirement and 60% of NBA players go broke or are bankrupt within five years of retirement. Just look at the sad cases of Antoine Walker, Bernie Kosar and others. When a family or friend asks for money, there could be a variety of reasons. Investing in their startup or helping them during a financially hard time. -The first thing I recommend is to thank them for coming to you and before you can consider helping them you will need to ask them for more details. For those wanting you to invest in their startup or small business, you have every right to ask for their business plan. How will they generate profits, what sort of experience do they have in that line of business, how many others have invested, what is their path to profitability, etc. If they can't answer those basic business questions, they are likely doomed to failure as most...

In this podcast episode of "Just Say No to the DSO," hosts Bob Spiel and Nate Williams discuss the importance of dentists maintaining control of their practices rather than selling to Dental Service Organizations (DSOs). They emphasize that smart business people don't overpay for practices and that DSOs are adept at making dentists think they're getting a great deal when, in reality, they may be giving away their practices for little to no value. The hosts explain the concept of EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization) and how DSOs structure deals in a way that essentially allows them to acquire practices for free or at a minimal cost to themselves. They warn dentists to be cautious of promises made by DSOs regarding equity and future earnings, as these promises may not materialize. The episode concludes with a teaser for the next installment, where they will delve deeper into the realities of DSO deals.

When you started recovery, the challenge was overwhelming (high) and your skill level was low. And chances are if you have not significantly changed your habits, the challenge feels about the same. For a long time the only tool in your tool box was willpower. Some version of "JUST SAY NO." But often willpower is easily exhausted. It gives out when we need it most. What if I told you success in recovery is not about increasing your willpower, it's about building skills. This is part 3 in our series, The Choice is Yours. https://recoveredman.com/328
Listen in this week as we laud our mediocre achievements, and to celebrate them what better way could there possibly be than chatting about the Top 5 Celebrations. It may have taken four hundred episodes to do so but the Dads finally sat down together in the man cave to watch director Mark Jenkin's ENYS MEN (2022). A kind of twisted lovechild of David Attenborough and H.P. Lovecraft, the film is set in 1973 on an uninhabited island off the Cornish coast and follows a lone woman, played with haunting subtlety by Mary Woodvine, as she observes a rare flower in the shadow of an ancient stone monument. A study in solitude, where the most dialogue you'll get is the scribbling of ‘No change' in a ledger, which becomes increasingly ironic as everything on screen suggests otherwise, ENYS MEN is a film that both marvels at and fears the power of nature. It looks stunning of course, filmed on 16mm Kodak Film giving it an authentic feel of the era, almost lending a kind of found footage or documentary quality but also being dreamlike and cinematic, and the sound design helps to strengthen the sense of foreboding. That being said this is not going to be everybody's cup of tea, with the director's debut BAIT a far more traditional offering in terms of plotting and pacing than this more avant-garde follow-up.Theme tune aside, Sidey sees nothing of value in this week's kids tv choice as we look at classic children's drama GRANGE HILL. We look at the first episode which features wallpaper almost as mind-bending as this week's film was. Stuff I remember from Grange Hill which traumatised me: the kid who fell off the multi-storey car park, Zammo getting into a fight at the zoo and falling into the sea lion enclosure, Michael Sheard's terrifying Mr Bronson and of course, Just Say No when Roland discovered Zammo slumped against a wall in the back room of an amusement arcade, surrounded by drug paraphernalia, his eyes fixed in a dead-eyed stare. Good stuff, We love to hear from our listeners! By which I mean we tolerate it. If it hasn't been completely destroyed yet you can usually find us on twitter @dads_film, on Facebook Bad Dads Film Review, on email at baddadsjsy@gmail.com or on our website baddadsfilm.com. There are good reasons why women don't speak up at work, but that silence is not serving us. When we communicate publicly, assertively and honestly for the rights and needs of ourselves and others, we're shifting the power dynamics that have held us all back. SHOW NOTES First, we know that women are more likely to speak up for others than they are for themselves. We also know from the research that women are far more likely to be interrupted and talked over. A 2014 study by Harvard Business Review found that while men and women see this as a problem, men tend to attribute this to a woman's failure to make their point in a strong, clear way - or getting rattled and allowing themself to be interrupted. Women tend to attribute this to feeling isolated and not liking conflict. Our hosts delve deeper into what the research says about why and here is what they found: Insinuation anxiety, which is the fear of insinuating distrust or disapproval of someone else. Fear of embarrassment, need we say more? Pluralistic ignorance, which is when we tend to sit around thinking someone else in the group will speak up - also known as the bystander effect. When we do not speak up , we end up less of all the good things - physical and emotional well-being and more of what we do not want, stress and unhappiness. There are some key times to speak up: when our boundaries are violated, when we notice someone is upset, when something goes against the rules, when we recognize danger and when no else does. Dr. Sunita Sah at Cornell University suggests preparing to speak up can be helpful and asking for more time if you need it. Crina and Kirsten add, being clear, avoiding over-explaining, being compassionate and honoring your preferences. The benefits of voicing your thoughts are high - more authenticity and more satisfaction. It is also critical that each of our very special and unique voices are heard.
