Welcome to the Successful Life Podcast. I'm your host, Corey Berrier, and today, folks, we're going to be talking about look, let's just dive straight into it. Now. Look, I'm sure this is not you, imagine seeing $1.3 million. In lost revenue because of follow-ups, and missed opportunities, that weren't closed. Dude, that's a staggering amount of money. That was in six months. That wasn't even all year. That was just for six months. 1.3 million. Now, here's the crazy thing about that. When I see those numbers, I think to myself, how could anybody let that much money fly by? How could anybody not wanna fix that problem? Part of it is you're busy, right? Be you're busy doing a million different things. And it's not that this thing is not important, cuz it is important, but things take precedence over this, right? You don't. , you can't spend time on everything, and it feels like this should be the most important thing, but that's from my perspective, right? My perspective is different because you're running the business. I'm not; I'm looking at it from a coach's standpoint, but here's the thing, and I understand part of the reason why a lot of people, especially people in the trades have a hard time following up because y'all are just like me. I hate following up. I used to hate following up. I used to hate prospecting. And I'll be honest with you, the reason people hate prospecting is because we take everything, we take the call personally, internally, we feel like the customer. Must not like us cuz they didn't buy from us. Sales in prospecting and follow-up, these things are not personal matters, it's a business matters. Furthermore, prospecting. is not selling. So when you think about prospecting, you think about I've gotta get this person on the line. I gotta tell 'em all about my product, my service, and I gotta get a credit card on the first call. Or it's just not [00:02:30] worth it. But let's step back for a second and think about this. Prospecting is not about. The sale prospecting is about filtering out the people who can use your product or service, who can afford your product or service, and who you wanna work with. And the only way to find that out is by prospecting and finding out what people's needs are. Finding out if you wanna work with that person, right you, but you've gotta talk to people in order. For this to work. You don't have to like prospecting, but you do have to do it. That is a Sandler rule. That's not my rule, but I love that because I dude I'll tell you, most people hate prospecting also cuz they feel like a salesperson. Well that's cuz you're trying to sell something on the prospecting call. The prospecting call is just, you're gathering information. You're figuring out from. The customer what it is they need, right? So here's an example. When you get an inbound call into your call center, that's prospecting right to a degree in this scenario, that's what it would be. Your CSR or ccr, whatever you call 'em, you're inside sales rep soon. It's their job to ask questions to figure out how to solve the problem. that the customer has. If they don't ask good questions, they're not gonna get the right answers, and you're not gonna be able to solve the customer's problem. So it's really just being genuinely curious about what's going on with the person. You'll get the information that you need. And you look at what prospecting, it's a game of elimination also, right? You're eliminating the people that you don't wanna work with. You're eliminating the people that can't afford your product or service. It doesn't mean they're bad people, it just means that you're, they're, they just, they can't afford what you sell, and that's okay. You gotta get, you gotta weed through those people. You don't want to get bogged down with a bunch of prospects that can't afford what you sell because then you wind. You spin in your wheels and feel like a complete idiot. And look you do want to have, you don't have a repeatable prospect look, a repeatable process, a roadmap for your prospecting. People knew they were in the presence of an expert and [00:05:00] cause of that, they would defer to me. I was able to take control of the conversation and once I had control, I could then make every sale, I could follow a certain roadmap to closing everyone using the same technique. Jordan Belfort, one of my faves. So look, here are three things that you can start doing. , today if you're a contractor, and I'm sure if your memory is as good as mine, you're probably gonna get, wanna get something to write this down, ? The first thing is, look, these are gonna be some simple things. They're gonna be some new things, they're gonna be some interesting things, but I promise. what I'm about to explain to you is going to be, is three things that could change your business. So the first thing is make sure you're answering all your phone calls, right? Or you need to hire somebody to answer the phone for you. And you may be thinking like, Corey, that's crazy. But what's crazier is that you're missing calls. Because you don't have somebody answering the phone. Look, my friend Lynn Wise, has a contractor in charge. Go check her out. She she's the person that you're definitely gonna wanna contact if you're looking for, if you need somebody to answer your phones, she does a bunch of other stuff too. But since that's what we're talking about, you could definitely check her out. Anyway, contractor in charge. The other thing that you can do is you need to put somebody in charge of your follow-ups, for example, like an inside sales representative, which, if that's something you're interested in, you obviously could reach out to me for that. Think about this. If you had somebody, imagine for a moment, just imagine if you had someone in your company. that was totally dedicated to doing nothing but follow ups. They had a repeatable process, a an absolute 100% tried and true process that they could follow and get astronomical results. . You think that'd be something you'd be interested in? Huh? Let me think about that. Well, I just told you a few minutes ago, it was 1.3 million in six months left on the table in follow ups. So you do the math. I don't know, would that be worth it to you to have somebody to come in and try to shore up some of those [00:07:30] follow ups? I don't know. It's 1.3 million. Enough money to, is that enough pain for you to, to wanna change it? I have no, I can't even answer that for you. I'll be honest. Some people would say, You know, I don't know, but seems kind of nuts to me. So look, the third thing is you wanna make your customer experience as frictionless as possible. And I'll just give you a quick example. My, my friend Paul Redmond, y'all probably know him as tall Paul at Contractor Commerce, is built a platform right to help you. Sell the same products and service that you sell already in an online store on your website I thought that was such killer information. I thought I'd kickstart your heart back to reality. Just imagine if you could sell your current products and services through an inside sales team and imagine it tripled your revenue without any effort on you, the business owner. I'll give you a quick example. Now, remember. Just for a second, imagine you're a taxi driver. It's 2009. You've been driving a taxi in New York City for the last 10 years, right? You know the roads better than anybody else. And bam, a new technology arrives called Uber, and Uber is saying they're gonna let regular people, non taxi drivers, Start picking people up like taxis in their personal cars whenever they want. And Uber's saying they get to control their own schedule, therefore they control their own money. . Now, if you're that taxi driver, let's just say in 2000, early 2009 when this rolled out, or whenever it rolled out in 2009, you're saying to yourself, that'll never work. That it's not how tax look, there's no way that'll work. There's, that's not how it's done. It's been done the same way for the last hundred years, and these yahoos think they're [00:10:00] gonna come in and change it. That's. That's a ridiculous idea. And you might be thinking, Corey, this is not Uber dude. This is home services. We don't sell online. People are not gonna buy hot water heater online. Corey, that's ridiculous. You shouldn't have some friends. Hell, that's working for 'em. Don't be a taxi driver that gets blinded by your own short-sighted Belize. Look, do me a favor. I really appreciate you listening to this story. I wanna recap really quick the three things that you can go do. If you can't answer your phones, hire somebody. If you need somebody to drive your revenue as an inside sales rep, contact me. I can get you started. If you want really innovate and you wanna take your business to the next level, you're gonna wanna contact Paul, a contractor Commerce, because, What he's doing over there is the future. I'm telling you right now, I'm telling you right now, these three things will help you. Do me a favor, if you could, I would greatly appreciate you leaving me a review about this show specifically and what you liked. Let me know if you've used any of these services. Let me know what you think about the show, because look, I'm telling you, you're gonna go back to this show and you're gonna say to yourself, dang, Corey was right. The future of Home Services for Sales is about to change. I'm just letting you know that's not an ego. I'm just telling you, there's so many things in the works that you guys are going to be super, super excited about and you are going to want to continue listening to this show. I'm gonna keep talking about it. We'll see you guys on the other side. https://www.coreyberrier.com
It's been a long-mooted idea – the introduction of a Universal Basic Income – a non means-tested welfare payment for every adult in the state. But how would such a scheme work and more importantly how much would it cost? Well the ESRI have studied just that and Dr Paul Redmond, Senior Research Officer with the ESRI who is behind the research spoke to Ciara this morning.

It's that time of the year when articles and social media posts are trying to shame us off the sofa and into the gym, using the extra weight gained over lockdown or Christmas as a stick to beat us with. Many of us try different things to lose weight and get fit every year, but all too often we fail, which ends up feeling even worse. I spoke to professional fighter and all-round good guy Paul Redmond about foot and training, the difference between cutting weight and losing it, and how we need to educate ourselves about nutrition if we want to succeed.

One the most engaging speakers at both LGIM’s Retail and DB/DC Client Conferences, Dr Paul Redmond is one of the foremost speakers on the subject of how different generations can work together most effectively. There has been so much written about millennials – what they want, what they don’t want, their expectations – that it can seem like this is really a generation that stands apart and sometimes in conflict with the others. But according to Dr Redmond, this is far from the truth. While there are some characteristics unique to this generation, we all have a lot more in common than you might think. In this fascinating conversation, we discuss some of the innovative tips he has for managers – including ‘reverse mentoring’ – and the ways millennials can best learn from Generation X. It was front page news around the world when a mass grave was discovered at a Mother and Baby Home in Ireland. The remains of almost 800 babies were found. But research by Paul Redmond showed that this was only "the tip of the iceberg". He collected evidence of high death rates at homes for illegitimate children across Ireland and also claimed the catholic nuns who ran them were trading in adoptions; being paid to send children to the United States for adoption often against the mother's wishes and sometimes without her knowledge. He was born in one of those homes and adopted before he was a month old. Now he feels he has a duty to expose what went on. (Photo: Paul Redmond in the Hardtalk studio)
