We had the pleasure of interviewing Pete Sears of Moonalice over Zoom video! San Francisco-based psychedelic soul group Moonalice is set to release their latest studio EP, ‘Full Moonalice Vol. 1', on the high holy day of April 20. The six song record is the group's label debut on Nettwerk and features the previously released single “Woo Woo” and an extended version of the band's first single, “Time Has Come Today.” ‘Full Moonalice Vol. 1' is their first full body of work since transforming into a ten-piece in 2019 through the addition of Lester Chambers and Dylan Chambers of the New Chambers Brothers, and Erika, Rachel, and Chloe Tietjen of the T Sisters. Today, Moonalice shares “Let's Get Funky,” the latest single from their upcoming EP. Mixed and mastered by 4x-Grammy Award-winning engineer Dave Way, “Let's Get Funky” is a fresh take on the Chambers Brothers' hit “Funky.” Originally released in 1970, the song was written by Lester Chambers, a co-founder and lead vocalist of the Chambers Brothers, who is now a member of Moonalice. “Funky” broke the Billboard Top 100 despite being deemed “too risqué of a song for the time,” explains the 81-year-old Chambers. Moonalice delivers a new version of the song with tight grooving from Pete Sears and John Molo on bass and drums, funky guitar riffs from Barry Sless, an electric synth solo by Jason Crosby, soulful harmonica playing by Lester Chambers, and lively backing vocals from the T Sisters and Dylan Chambers. Moonalice will spend the next few months on the road, touring across California, including festival performances at BottleRock and Skull & Roses. The group is also planning an extra special event in San Francisco to coincide with their annual 4/20 celebration. For those that don’t know Pete he’s is currently in a band touring with Melvin Seals and JGB, Moonalice, taking from the Honeymooners "from the moon and back Alice”. The band features Roger McNamee, Pete Sears, Barry Slesss, John Polo and Jason Crosby. Pete, Barry and John are also in one of my favorite bands, The David Nelson Band. For those that don’t know David Nelson, I am not sure you will be reading this, but check out The New Riders of The Purple Sage, one of the finest bands in the land, David being a founding member of the NRPS, who I hope to meet some day and listen to daily with many freinds in common. Pete has a legendary history in music which you can see on Wikipedia, playing keyboards on Maggie May with Rod Stewart, bass with Jefferson Starship to the current day with The David Nelson Band and Moonalice. I’ve gotten to see him and feel his bass a few times at Dark Star Jubilee and this past weekend at The Stone Pony, what a pleasure. You can see this past weekends videos here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtvmEdBpXyM&list=PL6Rz62xeLAME90PO09EcCDWF9UntlaaNV with The Chambers Brother’s Band, which is a whole other story. As I had hoped to be when I saw this announced I was able to be in the right place at the right time and almost on the rail. Enjoy.

Hello everyone, I am Chris Lipper from On The Bus Events Podcast. In our first episode, I had the opportunity to interview Michael Falzarano. Michael is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He has been a professional musician since the 1970s, most notably in Hot Tuna, the New Riders of the Purple Sage, and the Memphis Pilgrims, a Memphis-style rock and roll/blues band that he founded in 1986. Falzarano released an album entitled We Are All One in 2008 on Woodstock Records and The King James Sessions in 2005 on Blues Planet Records. A re-released version of the song "Last Train Out," which he wrote in memory of the Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule bass player Allen Woody, appears on the record. Blues Planet re-released Mecca, an album that Falzarano and the Memphis Pilgrims originally released in 1996 on Relix Records with guests Jorma Kaukonen, Pete Sears, and Harvey Sorgen of Hot Tuna and Danny Louis of Gov't Mule. When not performing with his own band, Falzarano can be seen with Hot Tuna, the Jorma Kaukonen Trio, and the New Riders of the Purple Sage. Falzarano also produces other artists, and teaches guitar workshops at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch. In 2013, Falzarano's original composition "When There's Two There's Trouble" was featured in Alexandre Moors' critically acclaimed film Blue Caprice with Isaiah Washington, Tim Blake Nelson, and Joey Lauren Adams. Falzarano also appears in the movie. Michael is currently touring with his band, The Englishtown Project, covering Grateful Dead, New Riders of the Purple Sage, and Marshall Tucker Band songs.

California Kind is a jam band super group from the Bay Area in California mostly. The sounds and playing may all sound vaguely familiar, since their sound in many ways, is reminiscent of other San Francisco based jam bands. More to the point though, this super group comprised of Katie Skene along with Barry Sless, Pete Sears, John Molo and friend of the show Rob Barraco all have been stalwarts of the psychedelic, jam band scene forever. Together they make beautiful music, that you no doubt will enjoy. Katie is the young lead vocalist of the troupe, who all take this project very seriously. In fact, each time that I met Rob during the summer at DSO shows, he mentioned this pet project. He told me that he was having an amazing time playing with this group. So it was quite a treat to sit down with Katie Skene to learn more about her specifically and about how the California Kind project came together and their plans for the future. Rob and Seth get a lesson on many kinds of music from Britain to San Francisco in the 60s, 70s and 80s from the legendary Pete Sears. Sears tells stories from throughout the first half of his career - from his early days with the rockabilly group The Spitfires up until he became one of the four finalists to replace Brent Mydland in The Grateful Dead. Hear about his days splitting time between working on seminal Rod Stewart records in England and discovering the world of San Francisco Bay Area music. His work with the brilliant-yet-volatile Paul Kantner and Grace Slick is explored. We hear his account of an infamous cancellation, and the ensuing chaos at the 1978 Lorelei Festival during which Pete's treasured bass ("Dragon," a sibling of sorts, of Garcia's iconic "Tiger" guitar), was among the equipment destroyed or stolen by the crowd - although Sears' bass DID survive, and would be returned to his some three and a half decades later. Time did not permit for his more recent years to be discussed much, so he will have to return to the show sometime. Episode also includes Seth's updates from his work on the high seas with Holy Ship and Rob's reports on his experiences at Atlanta's "Holiday Hootenanny" and the Umphrey's McGee New Year's run in Chicago.
