Since the release of his critically-acclaimed debut album 'Gone Wanderin’', Greene has built an enduring audience through a relentless touring schedule with the likes of BB King, Mark Knopfler, Susan Tedeschi, and Taj Mahal. He played lead guitar with The Black Crowes on their Layin’ Down With #13 World Tour, recorded and toured with Trigger Hippy - his supergroup with Joan Osborne - and in the last four years performed over 300 shows of his own, all while continuing to record and release his solo work. Greene is a frequent member of Phil Lesh & Friends, and sits in with countless other artists including Tedeschi Trucks Band, Govt Mule, Mississippi All-Stars, Amy Helm, Steve Earle, and Bob Weir. jackiegreene.com
Gov't Mule - Life Before Insanity On this episode, we are joined by the blues guy Brian Davis From the Podcast "Damn Good Movie Memories": for the review of an album whose career involves a lot of jamming and not only bread and butter (a little pun). We finish the show with Lee's song "Smiling Every Day (The False Cure)." Remember, buy good music and keep feeling groovy! #gov'tMule

We start by paying tribute to Little Richard (who died May 9, the day we recorded this podcast). Jimi talks extensively about his legacy and how much of a personal inspiration Little Richard was to Jimi. We then asked the question, who is coming up that can fill the shoes of the greats like Little Richard, a "swiss army knife" kind of performer? We discuss a number of artists, including Willie Nelson, Jewel, Lewis Capaldi, Elton John and Bernie Taupin, Ed Sheeran, John Mayer, Warren Haynes and Govt Mule, Derek Trucks, Blackberry Smoke and Joe Bonamassa. We take a deep dive into songwriting culture, starting with the statistic that the top 25 songs on the Billboard 100 last year averaged 8.5 songwriters. We talk about top lining (a songwriting technique), cowriting, and discuss the specifics of a typical publishing deal in Nashville. We discuss how hard it is for an artist to convince people who have never heard of him/her (cold audience) to listen to the artists music or be familiar with their music (warm audience). Its really hard to move people from the cold audience group to the warm audience group and we discuss the background of this. Finally we discuss Joe Bonamassa and his claim on his Facebook page the he is one of the worlds greatest guitar players. We discuss our reactions to that and whether any of our heros (Jimi Hendrix , Eric Clapton, Santana, SRV, etc) would have ever referred to themselves in such a way.
Vandaag hoor je muziek van The Cure, Coldplay, No Doubt, T Bone Burnett, Gov't Mule en Fleetwood Mac.

Earlier in 2019, Gov't Mule released Bring On The Music: Live at the Capitol Theatre, a multi-format collection celebrating the outfit's quarter-century career. In addition to a stand-alone live album, fans can also witness the concert via a DVD/Blu-ray release, which features behind-the-scenes footage and band interviews. Directed by Danny Clinch, the film captures the veteran act's visual impact in great detail.
Hello everyone, I am Chris Lipper from On The Bus Events Podcast. In our first episode, I had the opportunity to interview Michael Falzarano. Michael is an American guitarist, singer, and songwriter. He has been a professional musician since the 1970s, most notably in Hot Tuna, the New Riders of the Purple Sage, and the Memphis Pilgrims, a Memphis-style rock and roll/blues band that he founded in 1986. Falzarano released an album entitled We Are All One in 2008 on Woodstock Records and The King James Sessions in 2005 on Blues Planet Records. A re-released version of the song "Last Train Out," which he wrote in memory of the Allman Brothers Band and Gov't Mule bass player Allen Woody, appears on the record. Blues Planet re-released Mecca, an album that Falzarano and the Memphis Pilgrims originally released in 1996 on Relix Records with guests Jorma Kaukonen, Pete Sears, and Harvey Sorgen of Hot Tuna and Danny Louis of Gov't Mule. When not performing with his own band, Falzarano can be seen with Hot Tuna, the Jorma Kaukonen Trio, and the New Riders of the Purple Sage. Falzarano also produces other artists, and teaches guitar workshops at Jorma Kaukonen’s Fur Peace Ranch. In 2013, Falzarano's original composition "When There's Two There's Trouble" was featured in Alexandre Moors' critically acclaimed film Blue Caprice with Isaiah Washington, Tim Blake Nelson, and Joey Lauren Adams. Falzarano also appears in the movie. Michael is currently touring with his band, The Englishtown Project, covering Grateful Dead, New Riders of the Purple Sage, and Marshall Tucker Band songs.
Every year we hold the Choo-In Hall of Fame inductions, which is intended to recognize artists that are unlikely to be enshrined into the actual Rock Hall, but we feel are equally deserving of the recognition. This year, Levi inducts Average White Band, Gabe inducts The Tubes and Jonathan inducts Gov't Mule. Warning: No baseball content in this episode.

Gov't Mule mastermind Warren Haynes gives Kyle Meredith a ring to talk about the new live album, Bring on the Music: Live at the Capitol Theatre, which comes as a package with a Danny Clinch-directed film. Haynes discusses their history together and how the band's deeper cuts get a chance to shine. It's also Mule's 25th anniversary as a band, which is all the more surprising as Haynes admits this was only suppose to be a side-project from his work in the Allman Brothers. Also listen for his thoughts on the live future of the Allman songs and the status of the next Gov't Mule studio album. For information regarding your data privacy, visit acast.com/privacy
Next week the band will be releasing their highly anticipated Bring on the Music live at the Capitol Theatre package in various CD and DVD packages. You can check out all the configurations at mule.net. Aside from front man and guitar wizard Warren Haynes, Gov’t Mule is made up of 3 other extremely talented musicians including founding member Matt Abts on drums, Jorgensen Carlsson on bass, and keyboard and frankly multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis. Together this quartet makes genre and mind bending music rooted in blues, hard rock and Americana. Our affinity for this band has been well documented, and we’ve been on the Mule train since day one. So with the release of Bring On the Music forthcoming we thought it would be fun to talk to Danny Louis about not just this awesome musical package, but also about life in Gov’t Mule more generally and indeed the intangible ingredients he brings to the table. Halloween 2018 Part 2
This week we're joined by the hilarious Jillian Dunn (comedian/actor/@hippiejill) to talk about jam bands. One of nature's most misunderstood genres, they're obsessed over by weird nerds like our host, much to the chagrin of the friends and family that have to hear about them, like our other host. We go waaaaay deeper than you'd ever want. I'm talking Raymond "Skeeto" Valdez, Ramble Dove, "trying to work out what sub-genre Gov't Mule is" deep. If you love improvisational music as much as we do then you're gonna love this. If you don't, well... I can't really blame you... Have a problematic fave you'd like to share? E-mail us at intoitpod@gmail.com or @intoitpod on twitter, and make sure to leave us a rating and review on the ol' iTunes store! #wspsux

Warren Haynes has carried a heavy workload throughout the years fronting his own band and Gov't Mule while playing a key role in The Allman Brothers Band. Playing in the Dickey Betts Band, he was invited to join the Allman Brothers in 1989. Throughout the years Warren launched his namesake band in 1993 and followed that by forming Gov't Mule, shortly thereafter. In our April of 2013 interview with Warren, award-winning program director Ray White talks with Warren about Gov't Mule's By A Thread and Shout releases and also touches on The Allman Brothers Band, too! Warren's latest release is Revolution Come...Revolution Go. In our spotlight segment, we pay tribute to the leader of The Allman Brothers Band, Gregg Allman, who passed away on 5/27/17. His last studio album was Southern Blood. Learn more about our great shows and musicians we feature at http://www.classicartiststoday.com

Drummer Joe Winters helped found The Steepwater Band in 1998. By 2005, the band was headlining the Chicago Blues Festival and touring throughout the United States and Europe, sharing the stage with Gov't Mule, Buddy Guy, Wilco and many more. In our interview, Joe discusses the making of the band's new album, Shake Your Faith, along with the advantages of getting the band's music licensed for use on TV and in film. Joe also shares stories about trading phone calls with Eddie Van Halen and being a bat boy for the 1983 Chicago White Sox.
Debra Devi is a rock musician and the author of the award-winning blues glossary called “The Language of the Blues: From Alcorub to Zuzu,” which Reuters describes as "one of the wittiest, bawdiest, most fascinating dictionaries ever.” It features a foreword by blues legend Dr. John and won the ASCAP Deems Taylor Award for Outstanding Book on Music. Debra’s rock music is best described as Sheryl Crow meets Gov't Mule with a lot of blues influence. Her debut effort is called Get Free and she's set to release her sophomore album, an EP titled Wild Little Girl.

Rock torchbearers Gov’t Mule are celebrating their 20th anniversary with an extensive tour and a series of dynamic live archival releases that highlight the group’s versatility and epic, fearless live performances. No two Gov’t Mule shows are alike, as the band draws on the more than 300 songs in their repertoire (and often a host of special guests) to create a unique experience each and every time. Their steadily expanding fan base knows that the Mule always has something special waiting for them. Expect the unexpected. On January 2015, fans will finally be able to get their hands and ears on a very special release – the long-awaited SCO-MULE album. In late September of 1999, John Scofield teamed with Gov’t Mule, then featuring original bass player the late Allen Woody, along with keyboardist Dr. Dan Matrazzo, in Georgia for two legendary shows of mind-bending live prowess. Both shows were recorded and included the Mule’s first-ever all-instrumental sets. The band had begun preparing the music for eventual release while working on their third studio album Life Before Insanity. However, less than a year later, their beloved bassist Allen Woody passed away, setting the Mule on a different path. The idea of releasing SCO-MULE came up over the years, but the timing was never as right as it is now – helping to mark Gov’t Mule’s 20th Anniversary. While Scofield and the Mule did reunite briefly for a set at Warren Haynes’ 25th Annual Christmas Jam in December 2013, fans have been clamoring for the return of the project ever since those lauded 1999 shows, and for more than a decade the Mule have been eager to share the music from these shows through an LP. Now for the first time, fans can experience the SCO-MULE magic first-hand in album form, newly mixed and mastered. The 3-hour all-instrumental album is a jazz romp laced with rock riffs and will be available as a 2-CD set as well as a double vinyl. Warren Haynes’ unparalleled ability to bring together different musicians into a cohesive whole or to pull off epic musical happenings is one of the many reasons why Haynes stands apart from the many great front men and guitarists who have graced the musical landscape. Combined with his guitar and vocal mastery, these skills have made him an in-demand presence and indispensible musical ally for many. This was shown most recently on Mule’s most collaborative album to date, Shout!, their most recent (and 15th) studio album. The one-of-a-kind project is a double CD featuring two versions of every song – one with Haynes singing and the other featuring a host of guest vocalists, including Dave Matthews, Ben Harper and Elvis Costello. Indeed, it would have been hard for those listening to Gov’t Mule’s self-titled debut, filled with thunderous power trio rumblings of Haynes, bassist Allen Woody and drummer Matt Abts, to envision them remaining true to this original vision, while also expanding to include reggae and horn-driven, backup singer-sweetened, classic rock covers by Pink Floyd and the Rolling Stones, but that’s the tricky feat the band has pulled off, as illustrated by their upcoming live albums. Gov’t Mule was formed in 1994 when Haynes and bassist Allen Woody were playing in the Allman Brothers Band and talking about their shared passion for old school power trios. Encore presentation of installment 10/21/2014 Zane Carney currently plays lead guitar for Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark on Broadway with Los Angeles based Interscope Recording act CARNEY. Born and half-raised in NYC, Zane moved to Los Angeles as a child and developed an affinity for the guitar in Junior High when he started performing at local blues clubs. After attending Hamilton High School Academy of Music and touring Japan with the Monterey National All-Star Big Band, he began his collegiate studies at University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music majoring in Studio/Jazz Guitar. As a Guitarist and former Oboist, many of his schooling years included performances with Symphony Orchestras and Chamber Groups which lead to an educational background that is equally classical and jazz. This diversity of musical styles and methods helped to form a unique sound that draws just as much from Jazz as it does Delta Blues, Rock and Roll and Impressionism. Zane has been fortunate to tour the world (Jesse McCartney, Renee Olstead, Armand Sabal-Lecco, etc.), perform regularly on national television (Jay Leno, Jimmy Kimmel, Good Morning America, etc.), and play lead guitar as an onstage musician at Last Call with Carson Daly and CW's Oh Sit. On top of this, he has performed with a diverse group of jazz artists including John Daversa whose Big Band album "Junk Wagon" and Small Group record "Artful Joy" feature Zane's jazz playing. Outside of session and touring work, Zane is fortunate to have two strong outlets as an artist. One is though his band CARNEY which he shares with brother/lead singer Reeve Carney who is currently playing the title role of Peter Parker in Broadway's Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark. CARNEY has toured the US, Canada and Australia opening for U2, Fergie, The Veronicas, The Black Crowes and Gov't Mule while also playing guitar for John Mayer on the road. The other is as a singer/songwriter creating, recording and performing his own material. In his spare time, Zane teaches music theory and guitar masterclasses at universities in LA and NY. zanecarney.com facebook.com/zanecarneyofficial @zanecarney (Twitter & Instagram)

From the swamps of southeast Georgia, born in Waycross, and raised on Southern Rock and Blues. Josh Kirkland still calls his Mother "Mama" and speaks with a cool softness, not only is he a southern gentleman, he is one intense guitarist. Josh became fascinated with the guitar at an early age, after receiving his first guitar for his 13th birthday, he began cutting his teeth on the popular rock music of the 80's but soon found himself being drawn toward the blues. Josh's father who played Hammond B-3 organ in several local bands during the 70's not only wanted his son Josh to learn the music of his own generation, but to also learn the southern rock and blues based music that he himself came up playing. Josh was soon hooked on Duane Allman's slide guitar playing, he then discovered the music of Stevie Ray Vaughan which led him to all of the blues masters and the innovative Jimi Hendrix, the rest is history. Josh Kirkland's debut cd release is a six string odyssey, full of searing guitar riffs & soulful deep southern rooted vocals. You hear all of the influences, but there is more. Josh has evolved his own distinctive style. The Josh Kirkland Band's music is a mix of Blues, Southern Rock, Jazz, Funk, R&B/Soul, Country etc. A typical Josh Kirkland Band show features songs for everyone, including original songs and covers ranging from a twangy Johnny Cash song to a jammin' Allman Brothers tune to a hard driving Jimi Hendrix cover complete with Kirkland playing screaming guitar solos with his teeth and behind his back. Truly, Kirkland is the type of player that has to be seen. Over the years Josh has supported such acts as Rick Derringer, Pat Travers, Jerry Reed, and the Marshall Tucker Band. In 2005 Josh Kirkland was selected as one of the top ten blues artists worldwide in the "Blues Idol" competition. Most recently, the Josh Kirkland Band performed at the 2006 Wanee Festival in Live Oak FL, supporting the Derek Trucks Band, Robert Randolf, the North Mississippi Allstars, Gov't Mule, the Allman Brothers Band etc.
