It was just the reaction the boys in the stripes needed to provide and they did so, thanks to an accomplished headed finish from Smiler and a delicious low chipped winner by Mito, leaving an array of objectionable ex-Seagulls in his wake, sprawled pitifully upon the hallowed turf of Albion. Evenings (far too late evenings, thanks a lot ITV you selfish bastards!) don't get much better than this and my oh my did we all enjoy it, even though many had to stay at home to watch on the tellybox (thanks again ITV you selfish bastards!). The considered views of Andy K and Raymond ‘The Gent' Wrighty McWright accompanied the idle ramblings of your erstwhile and consistently nauseating host Russell G - who now seems to have taken to singing pod intros……good grief and lord save us all!!! As well as revelling in the rightful elimination of Chelsea (not completely, they DO still exist unfortunately) the chaps cast an entertained eye over the rest of the weekend's cup games including Devon's cream of the crop, cupsetters extraordinaire Plymouth Argyle, perused the 5th Round draw and considered Albion's prospects for Chelsea (h) Part Two. However it was far from all fun and games and kicking Marc Cockarella ten foot upwards. It was our profoundly sad duty to report to any that hadn't heard already of the devastating loss to us all of Worthing FC club legend Peter Vale. Pete passed away this week following a very recent cardiac arrest. He leaves behind him an array of people harbouring the fondest of memories of his kindness, friendliness, dedication to the club through all his free time generously given up in order to travel the length and breadth of the country commentating on Rebels games and his wonderful sense of humour. Pete has appeared on numerous podcasts, most notably Rebel Yell and latterly The Premier Non League Podcast (PNLP), as well as several guest slots on our own humble platform here. We are devastated to hear the news and can't begin to describe how sadly missed he'll be to all who knew him. The outpouring on social media has been utterly heartwarming, yet entirely unsurprising. We miss you already, Pete. Friend, legend and all round good guy. Stand or fall! UTA!

OFA Launches New Testing for Brachycephalic Breeds [caption id="attachment_11998" align="alignright" width="266"] Dr. Kathleen Smiler, DVM, Pug Dog Club of America Health Committee Representative.[/caption] Eddie Dziuk, Chief Operating Officer at the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals, and Dr. Kathleen Smiler, DVM, Health Committee Representative from the Pug Dog Club of America, join host Laura Reeves to introduce the new BOAS testing program. “Brachycephalic Obstructive Airway Syndrome (BOAS) is a condition which may cause breathing difficulties in breeds such as Bulldogs, French Bulldogs and Pugs,” according to the OFA. “BOAS is caused when the soft tissue in the nose and throat are excessive for the airway, partially obstructing the airway and making it difficult for them breathe normally. "BOAS is a progressive disorder and can impair a dog's ability to exercise, play, eat and even sleep. Clinical signs of BOAS are variable and may include noisy breathing, exercise and heat intolerance, regurgitation and dysphagia. Unfortunately, many owners are unaware of the disease, and often interpret breathing noises or difficulties as simply normal for the breed. “In an effort to learn more about the condition, increase awareness, and ultimately reduce the incidence of BOAS, researchers at the University of Cambridge in the UK developed the Respiratory Function Grading Scheme (RFGS). The goal of the RFGS was to develop an objective test to measure the clinical diagnosis and severity of BOAS. The OFA has joined this international effort and has licensed the RFGS for use in the US and Canada. "The exam is conducted by a specially trained and approved veterinarian and consists of 4 steps: A short health survey regarding the dog's breathing history A brief physical exam while the dog is calm including auscultation where the assessor listens to the dog's breathing with a stethoscope gently positioned on the side of the neck. This establishes a baseline for any clinical signs of BOAS. A short exercise test consisting of a brisk three minute walk. This is designed to expose clinical signs of the disease in an otherwise calm and asymptomatic dog. It is not designed to assess cardiovascular fitness. A post exercise auscultation after increased airway activity to compare to the pre-exercise baseline.” “I think the veterinarians were extremely enthusiastic,” Smiler said of the veterinarians participating at a recent event in Portland, Oregon. “And I think the participants were quite pleased too, I think. I went and sat in the meet the breeds box with the pug people in Portland and everybody was quite satisfied. I think our club in general was very satisfied.” “We examined 54 dogs (at the rollout in Portland),” Dziuk said. “We actually did 60 where we had a couple breeds that weren't on the official breed participant list yet. So, we had 54 between Bulldogs, Frenchies and Pugs and we also had a couple of Bostons and Pekes. “Overwhelmingly (we had) pretty good results. We had 10 Grade 0. So, the grade zeros are basically everything was good. These dogs were good breathers, they had nice wide open nostrils. There were no sounds of turbulence or anything during the auscultation, so everything was looking pretty good. We had 18 grade 1, which is also good. It means that in general, nothing could be heard without a stethoscope and you could only hear some of the minor issues with the stethoscope, but the dogs are basically still found to be clinically unaffected by BOAS. We did have 25 grade twos and we had one lone grade three. “I think that goes to prove the point that not all Bulldogs suffer breathing difficulties, not all Frenchies suffer breathing difficulties, and not all...

The Ghosts of Harrenhal: A Song of Ice and Fire Podcast (ASOIAF)
Theon views his new ship. Makes a new lady-friend. Admits his inner secrets to her. Discovers he's been tricked. And gets one further slap in the face from his father's war plans. Mackelly and Simon offer Theon some alternatives. Chapter Review: Theon Greyjoy admires his new ship in Lordsport. She has room for 50 oars and a deck that could take 100 men. He's approached by Esgred, wife of the ship-builder Sigrin. They flirt and Theon is very interested. He reckons she is too good for Sigrin, Esgred reckons the new ship is too good for Theon. He invites her to a feast and she agrees. They ride together on Theon's new horse Smiler who he obtained from Sawane Botley, who couldn't cope with the size and fierceness of the beast. Theon is far more comfortable on horseback than his countrymen. He gropes Esgred, but she removes his hand. They discuss Theon's claim to be heir of the Iron Islands and the relative claims of his elder sister Asha (she's a woman, Theon will marry her off) and his uncles Euron (missing two years possibly dead), Victarion (solid but unimaginative), and Aeron (given himself over to religion). Upon arrival at Pyke, Theon is amazed to discover that Esgred is in fact Asha. He sulks all the way to the feast where she, not he, is seated beside their father. After the meal, Balon summarizes their war plans: Theon will harry the Stormy Shore, Asha will take Deepwood Motte, and Victarion will conquer Moat Cailin. Balon cares only for war with the Starks, and trusts Theon with only the most menial of tasks. Characters/Places/Names/Events:Theon Greyjoy - Heir to the Iron Islands. Sent to Pyke to bring the Greyjoy fleet into the war to help Robb Stark. Asha Greyjoy - Elder sister to Theon. Oldest surviving child of Balon Greyjoy. Balon Greyjoy - Lord of the Iron Islands. Father to Asha and Theon. Euron Greyjoy - Brother of Balon Greyjoy. Been absent from the Iron Islands for more than two years. Possibly dead. Victarion Greyjoy - Younger brother of Balon Greyjoy. Aeron Greyjoy - Youngest brother to Lord Balon. Priest of the Drowned God. Dour and devout. Known as Damphair. The Sea Bitch - Theon's warship.
