No one comes to the Father except through me. 7 If you really know me, you will know my Father as well. From now on, you do know him and have seen him.” 8 Philip said, “Lord, show us the Father and that will be enough for us.”9 Jesus answered: “Don't you know me, Philip, even after I have been among you such a long time? Anyone who has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father'? 10 Don't you believe that I am in the Father, and that the Father is in me? ABC News doesn't deserve any respect. I mean, maybe that's been the case for a long time. It just bums me out in a way to know that they've completely turned from caring about having any believability. Hello everyone and welcome to another edition of Interviewing the Legends I'm your host Ray Shasho. One of the most in demand blues / rock guitarists in the world is a mysterious character who goes by the name of G.E. Smith. Millions of TV viewers know his face-and the shock of unruly blond ponytail that was always falling across it-from his tenure stint of fronting the Saturday Night Live Band. Smith was hired to play lead guitar for Hall and Oates, he stayed for six years (1979-1985) constantly touring and recording with them, racking up hit after hit. Smith toured for almost four years with the legendary Bob Dylan. Smith was also honored to be the musical director for special events such as the 1988 Emmy Awards, the 1993 Rhythm and Blues Foundation Awards and the Bob Dylan 30th Anniversary Concert at Madison Square Garden. The latter event was another of those “fantasy situations” that G.E. keeps getting involved in. “The rehearsals for that Dylan concert you wouldn't believe. I was rehearsing with George Harrison in the morning, Eric Clapton in the afternoon, and Lou Reed at night. One afternoon, rehearsing the finale, I had Harrison, Tom Petty, Clapton, Neil Young, Dylan and Roger McGuinn all lined up. GE also joined Roger Waters 2010 WALL LIVE toured the world three times and toured with him for seven years. In 2015, GE returned to SNL where he received an EMMY award as bandleader, for the 40th SNL anniversary special. In 2015, GE and wife, Taylor Barton, started an exciting project called PORTRAITS, which hosts a rotating roster of acclaimed musicians and artists from all realms for a deeper look at what drives them creatively. Roger McNamee has spent decades helping American tech companies secure financing. In the last few years, however, he's become well-known for helping American citizens secure themselves against tech companies. After helping convince Mark Zuckerberg to retain control over Facebook, Roger documented social media's role in amplifying social division in his 2019 New York Times Best Seller Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe. Recently he's turned his attention to AI, and he has a warning for us: don't believe the hype. In this conversation Roger joins Bob and Ben to discuss Artificial Intelligence, why he says it's far from the disruptor its proponents have claimed it to be, and how our current assessment of AI actually causes many of the problems that will likely come from this new technology. Roger also shares his solution to better tech regulation, why he's more hopeful about the future of the US than he has been in decades, and his second career in his band Moonalice (click here for music and tour dates). Today HPR All Things Considered host Dave Lawrence speaks with bassist/keyboardist Pete Sears about his fascinating career. The Diamond Head crater fest veteran shares music and stories about his new band Moonalice, with Lester Chambers of the Chambers Brothers, including details about their new EP, Full Moonalice Volume One. In addition to performing on some of the biggest songs of all time with Rod Stewart and Jefferson Starship, he shares some remarkable experiences with the Grateful Dead, too! Pete will even offer us a little exclusive musical performance.
Today, we speak with Lester Chambers from the legendary band "The Chambers Brothers" about the highs and lows of his life and music career. He and his son Dylan talk about how their current band "Moonalice" has given them life. Then, baseball legend Orlando Cepeda shares what it was like to grow up in the sport. And, we'll check out an old-time ballgame with wool uniforms, tiny gloves, and good sportsmanship.
Even by the lofty standards of the late '60s, The Chambers Brothers were visionaries, blending rock, gospel and psychedelia into a musical bouillabaisse seasoned with social awareness. Lester is the third of the four Brothers, who were joined by a white drummer named Brian Keenan. The Chambers family is from Mississippi, but they formed their band in Los Angeles after the oldest brother, George, was discharged from the Army and settled there. "He went to California because he no longer wanted his brothers and sisters to grow up in a place like Mississippi," Lester says. "We got in the car one night and drove up. We had the pleasure of interviewing Pete Sears of Moonalice over Zoom video! San Francisco-based psychedelic soul group Moonalice is set to release their latest studio EP, ‘Full Moonalice Vol. 1', on the high holy day of April 20. The six song record is the group's label debut on Nettwerk and features the previously released single “Woo Woo” and an extended version of the band's first single, “Time Has Come Today.” ‘Full Moonalice Vol. 1' is their first full body of work since transforming into a ten-piece in 2019 through the addition of Lester Chambers and Dylan Chambers of the New Chambers Brothers, and Erika, Rachel, and Chloe Tietjen of the T Sisters. Today, Moonalice shares “Let's Get Funky,” the latest single from their upcoming EP. Mixed and mastered by 4x-Grammy Award-winning engineer Dave Way, “Let's Get Funky” is a fresh take on the Chambers Brothers' hit “Funky.” Originally released in 1970, the song was written by Lester Chambers, a co-founder and lead vocalist of the Chambers Brothers, who is now a member of Moonalice. “Funky” broke the Billboard Top 100 despite being deemed “too risqué of a song for the time,” explains the 81-year-old Chambers. Moonalice delivers a new version of the song with tight grooving from Pete Sears and John Molo on bass and drums, funky guitar riffs from Barry Sless, an electric synth solo by Jason Crosby, soulful harmonica playing by Lester Chambers, and lively backing vocals from the T Sisters and Dylan Chambers. Moonalice will spend the next few months on the road, touring across California, including festival performances at BottleRock and Skull & Roses. The group is also planning an extra special event in San Francisco to coincide with their annual 4/20 celebration. Stay tuned for more details and national headline dates to be announced soon.We want to hear from you! In July 2013, Lester Chambers was attacked. Performing at a Bay Area blues festival, the singer had just launched into the Impressions' classic, “People Get Ready,” as a woman charged through the crowd incensed that he had had dedicated the song to Trayvon Martin. It's something of a dramatic understatement to say Chambers is a survivor. The musician has seen the heights of music stardom, from fronting The Chambers Brothers to guesting on albums by fellow musical legends like Miles Davis. But the years have found the singer battling labels for royalties and even spending a period homeless and uninsured, battling severe medical issues. But while the industry may have abandoned him, Chambers never lost faith in the music. Keeping the family tradition, he's returned to the stage with his son Dylan, as part of the musical collective, Moonalice.

This episode features an interview with Roger McNamee. His official bio at Elevation Partners, an investment firm, says that since 2017 he has been involved in ”a campaign to trigger a national conversation about the dark side of social media“. He is the author of a book, Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe, published by HarperCollins in 2019, that has an account of his role as an investor and advisor to the company and his ultimate recognition of the harms it causes at scale. To many listeners, his voice on these issues is well known- he is a frequent commentator on technology on shows such as “Squawk Alley” CNBC and on Ali Velshi's show on MSNBC, and he is a regular at conferences that delve into topics at the intersection of tech and democracy. He knows the tech bro culture well enough to have served as a technical advisor for multiple seasons of HBO's “Silicon Valley” series, a show that lampoons the people and industry there. Roger also a philanthropist and a musician- he plays in the bands Moonalice and Doobie Decibel System, on bass and guitar. If you follow him on Twitter @moonalice, you will get to hear his frequent livestreams, sometimes solo, and sometimes with the band. We caught up with Roger to get his sense of where the movement to regulate and hold technology firms to account is at the moment, particularly in the U.S.

In 2006, Roger McNamee played a crucial role in convincing Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg not to sell his company to Yahoo!. A couple of years later, he helped bring Sheryl Sandberg in as Facebook's COO. Yet despite this personal connection, and his role as an early investor in the company, Roger now believes that Facebook has become a threat to democracy. In this episode, Bob and Ben talk with Roger about his book Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe, the role Facebook has played in spreading disinformation, and the steps he believes we should take to regain control over the tech giants of the modern world. Roger McNamee is Managing Director of Elevation Partners, which he co-founded in 2004 with U2's Bono. Roger is also a member of the band Moonalice, which plays live stream every day at 4:20pm.

I had the pleasure of interviewing my new freind Pete Sears, super nice guy, this weekend thanks to an introduction by Michael Falzarono. For those that don’t know Pete he’s is currently in a band touring with Melvin Seals and JGB, Moonalice, taking from the Honeymooners "from the moon and back Alice”. The band features Roger McNamee, Pete Sears, Barry Slesss, John Polo and Jason Crosby. Pete, Barry and John are also in one of my favorite bands, The David Nelson Band. For those that don’t know David Nelson, I am not sure you will be reading this, but check out The New Riders of The Purple Sage, one of the finest bands in the land, David being a founding member of the NRPS, who I hope to meet some day and listen to daily with many freinds in common. Pete has a legendary history in music which you can see on Wikipedia, playing keyboards on Maggie May with Rod Stewart, bass with Jefferson Starship to the current day with The David Nelson Band and Moonalice. I’ve gotten to see him and feel his bass a few times at Dark Star Jubilee and this past weekend at The Stone Pony, what a pleasure. You can see this past weekends videos here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WtvmEdBpXyM&list=PL6Rz62xeLAME90PO09EcCDWF9UntlaaNV with The Chambers Brother’s Band, which is a whole other story. As I had hoped to be when I saw this announced I was able to be in the right place at the right time and almost on the rail. Enjoy.
Roger McNamee has been a successful Silicon Valley investor for thirty five years. He co-founded Silver Lake and Elevation Partners, two very successful private equity funds. He also plays bass and guitar in the bands Moonalice and Doobie Decibel System. He holds a BA from Yale and an MBA from Dartmouth's Tuck School. He has written 4 books, the latest one titled Zucked: Waking up to the Facebook Catastrophe. Some interesting insights from this episode: Roger had a very unusual approach to tech investing which allowed him to be highly successful. Learn why he started Elevation Partners with U2's Bono. Hear how one pivotal meeting with Mark Zuckerberg would forever alter the course of Facebook. It was Facebook's lack of anonymity that Roger felt was key to bridging the gap to a much larger mainstream audience that prior social media companies had failed to reach. While they are technically a platform, Facebook acts more like a media company by using sophisticated algorithms to control the content that users see on the site. Social media manipulates us by exploiting the weakness in human psychology. Learn what filter bubbles are and why they've contributed to our accepting and spreading false information. “Technology has changed the way we engage with society, substituting passive consumption of content and ideas for civic engagement, digital communications for conversation.” “Excellence is an outcome that reflects mastery of an activity in a time and in a place.”
Roger McNamee has been a Silicon Valley investor for 35 years. He co-founded successful funds in venture, crossover and private equity. His most recent fund, Elevation, included U2’s Bono as a co-founder. He holds a B.A. from Yale University and an M.B.A. from the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth College. Roger plays bass and guitar in the bands Moonalice and Doobie Decibel System. He is the author of Zucked: Waking Up to the Facebook Catastrophe, as well as The New Normal and The Moonalice Legend: Posters and Words, Volumes 1-9. He has served as a technical advisor for seasons two through five of HBO’s Silicon Valley series, and was also responsible for raising the money that created the Wikimedia Foundation.

The Rock'N Vino podcast sits down with BottleRock Co-Founder and Partner of BottleRock Presents Dave Graham about this year's line-up. Find out about what's new, what's happening, and what to expect from the year's festival as long as a breakdown from Coco and Mike on this year's line-up. NAPA — BottleRock Napa Valley producers today unveiled the lineup for the seventh incarnation of their annual wine country festival, held at the Napa Valley Expo between May 24 and 26—Memorial Day weekend. This year's lineup features a new twist with the festival featuring dual headlining sets each night. Friday includes alt-rockers Imagine Dragons and rapper Logic. Saturday has Neil Young and Promise of the Real, along with R&B superstar Pharrell Williams. Rootsy rock band Mumford & Sons and guitar virtuoso Santana will close out the festival on Sunday, May 26. The lineup again features more than 80 artists over the three days. "We've expanded the capability of the second stage," BottleRock CEO Dave Graham said. "We wanted to be able to attract some major acts to play the second stage at the same time the main stage was playing, and that's exactly what we did this year." The bill is rounded out by a slate of eclectic artists, including Sylvan Esso, OneRepublic, Flogging Molly, Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Cypress Hill, Tash Sultana, Lord Huron, Big Boi, Bishop Briggs, Jeff Goldbum & The Mildred Snitzer Orchestra and others. Graham said the addition of Young is particularly meaningful this year. "Neil Young has not performed in the Bay Area, publicly, since the last Bridge School Benefit Concert back in 2016," he said. "What an honor for us to have a legend like him up on our stage." BottleRock will again feature it's culinary stage pairing celebrity chefs with musicians, actors and Bay Area luminaries cooking up unique dishes for festivalgoers, along with the festival's focus on the region's best food and wine. The culinary stage lineup will be announced in April. "This year, BottleRock is also a part of the prize offerings for [TV show] Top Chef, so the winner will get an appearance on the Culinary Stage this year," Graham said. Last year, more than 120,000 camp out to see performances by Bruno Mars, The Killers, Muse and others. Tickets go on sale Tuesday at 10 a.m. at the festival's website. Rob and Seth sit down with Jason Crosby and discuss how he went from a classically trained violin and piano prodigy, to working with artists like Solar Circus, God Street Wine, Oteil and The Peacemakers, Susan Tedeschi, Derek Trucks, Robert Randolph and The Bind Boys of Alabama all at a young age. Also explored are his musical and other interactions with Prince, Eric Clapton, Trey Anastasio and Bruce Springsteen - and how his life changed when he moved from New York to California, where he met and worked with folks like Bob Weir, Phil Lesh and Roger McNamee. Then Roger himself joins to chat how the seeds for his love of rock sprouted out of being born in the "Year of Elvis," and how his work with T. Bone Burnett inspired him to start Moonallice. Roger is not just a musician. He is also one of the most insightful businessmen of our generation, and this interview reveals how he has used the fruits of the resulting success from this insight to help empower (and employ) musicians and visual artists. He also discusses his decision to provide high quality streaming video of every Moonalice and Doobie Decimal System performance (and many others including a variety of performances from California's Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival). This has proven to be not just a benefit to music-lovers, but also seems to be a key part of the popularity growth of Roger's bands Moonalice and Doobie Decimal System. Tuck was pleased to host Roger McNamee T'82, who is both the Co-founder of Elevation Partners and the Co-founder of the Center for Digital Strategies. Roger returned to Tuck to keynote the MBA's Entertainment, Sports & Media Symposium and play a private concert with his band, Moonalice, for the Tuck community. Roger started his talk by stating that today is one of the most important moments in technology. He goes on to passionately and convincingly explain why.
