NFL star running backs Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs have been the latest victims of the continued devaluation of the RB free agency market as they couldn't reach long-term deals with the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders by this past Monday's deadline. That means the only compensation they can gain from playing is from the franchise tag. There was an uproar from other running backs around the league in response, addressing how broken the RB market is in the league now. However, others in the media have shot down the concerns, chalking it up to “how the game is now” and that running backs just aren't valuable enough anymore to justify being paid second contracts. Is there any hope that running backs will get fair treatment and pay ever again? Should changes be made to help them? This is a heavy topic, and the BOAF guys will dive into it. Also, the guys will continue the draft they started last week and look to build the best team they possibly can. The 2023 ALL-BIRDS OF A FEATHER DRAFT: PART 2 is here! And remember, it'll be up to you to decide who ended up with the best team! Pete Evans was able to build a very strong defense so far, Chux was able to grab the Philadelphia Eagles dominant offensive line, Pete Young took 2 elite running backs, and Jake Friel grabbed the best linebacker in the league in Fred Warner. How will the rest of the draft shake out? Tune in! To end the show the BOAF panel goes “NO HUDDLE” as they discuss anything and everything else surrounding the NFL, sports, and anything else that we find worth discussing!

Sara Williams became Sara Hamilton just a few years after graduation. She married her high school sweetheart, Caleb Hamilton, who was also in our class, and in this week's episode, she looks back on their early years together and what they've learned after 20 years of raising girls. (Three of them, including a toddler.) Sara's volleyball career ended after our senior year, but she went on to coach and is still holding out hope that her youngest will play. She and Caleb and the girls live in Hollister, a town near Branson, Missouri, where she is a stay at home parent and basketball mom. Here is a list of Aurora businesses mention in this week's ad break: Modern Variety, Ila Bohm's, Sublime Hippie, The Garden Exchange, Downtown Pizza and Sports Bar (get the toasted sub!), Olive Grill, and Hog Tide Barbecue on your way out of town. Each week, I make a donation to a nonprofit of choice selected by a classmate featured in the show, and Sara picked For the Kids, the organization in Aurora that provides clothing and other essentials to foster and relative placement children in Barry, Lawrence and Stone counties. These donations are made possible by sponsors, including Advanced Eyecare Kansas City, Aurora Professional Pharmacy, Class of 1975 rep Pete Young and Allstate agent Bill Baker, and Patrons who sign up to support the show at patreon.com/classreunionpodcast. Brandon Weldy carried a heavy burden when he was a kid, but he rarely let it show. His dad died when he was five, and by the time he was in elementary school, his mom had lost custody of her kids, and Brandon and his younger sisters were being raised by their grandparents. But at school, Brandon was all smiles. He brought a lot of laughs and energy wherever he went, from the football field to the basketball court, but it wasn't until he was an adult and started his career as a teacher and a coach that he started to see how that sharing the story behind his troubled childhood might help kids who were in similar situations. Brandon is now married to his wife, Jacinda, and they live in Republic, Missouri, where they are raising three boys. He recently took a job as an assistant principal at a school in a nearby district, but I'm sure he won't be away from the whistle for long. Some notes for this week's show: This episode is sponsored by Pete Young, a graduate from the Aurora High School Class of 1975. Pete is an active member of the Houn' Dawg Alumni Network, which is hosting its annual all-school reunion on Sept. 24 and 25 in Aurora. For more information, go the Houn' Dawg Alumni Network page on Facebook for more information. Each week, I make a donation to a nonprofit of choice selected by the classmate featured in the show. This week's donation is going to Honor Flight of the Ozarks, which facilitates trips for veterans to Washington DC. In 2009, Brandon joined his grandfather, Bill Weldy, who was a Purple Heart recipient, on an Honor Flight trip. You can find out more about the organization at honorflightoftheozarks.org. Pete Young is a master grower from the old school.Originally from Long Island, New York, Pete began his journey as a cannabis grower at the age of 15 with a few plants on the rooftop of his friend's apartment to avoid having to buy cannabis from the street. When he moved to London, Ontario to study photography, he developed his talent for growing weed and provided seeds to Chris Clay's store in London, Ontario at the Great Canadian Hemporium. After Chris was arrested, he and his team changed the store's name to Hemp Nation, where Pete earned the title of Minister of Agriculture. After Chris Clay’s trial, Pete took over the store and rebranded it as the Organic Traveler with the slogan "There’s no need to panic, it’s organic!"Pete also founded the London Compassion Society, dedicated to providing high quality cannabis as medicine to people at reduced rates. On the road to legalization, Pete became a master grower with Indiva, a Licensed Producer in Canada. On Legalization Day (October 17, 2018), Pete and Chris rang the bell opening the stock exchange. You can pick up a copy of Pete's autobiography, The High Road: A Pot Grower's Journey from the Black Market to the Stock Market on Amazon.I hope you enjoy my conversation with Pete, one of the original growers who has tremendous respect for the plant.
Chris Clay is ahead by a century.I use the song title from the Tragically Hip on purpose. In the early 1990s, university student Chris Clay had a vision: cannabis must be legal. Chris wasn't alone, obviously. But his plan to achieve his vision was unparalleled: Chris opened Canada's first Hemp Store.Initially a booth at a London, Ontario flea market, Chris moved his table of hemp products and information, with the help of a government grant, to a London storefront that Chris called the Great Canadian Hemporium. Eventually, he changed the name to Hemp Nation. With a team of other 20-somethings, including Pete Young (who is the next featured CLIC podcast interviewee!) Chris sold hemp clothing, hemp personal hygiene products and hemp seeds. But Chris wanted to do something else: he wanted to help people grow their own. Influenced by Alexander Sumach and others, Chris began selling cannabis seeds, and did so for two years, never once attracting law enforcement attention. Until he did. After two raids by London Police, the second of which was for selling plant cuttings, and charges that could have given Chris four life sentences, Chris formally launched a constitutional challenge against the Narcotic Control Act (which became the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act during his case). Law Professor Alan Young (who was our first CLIC podcast interview) and criminal lawyer Paul Burstein (who is now The Honourable Justice Burstein) assembled a giant roster of expert witnesses to testify as to the harmless effects of cannabis and to dispel all the myths associated with cannabis. This myth-busting team went all the way to the Supreme Court (please see the case here: R. v. Clay, 2003 SCC 75 (CanLII), [2003] 3 SCR 735). Incidentally, Chris's case is explained in detail in the Preface to my book, Canada's Cannabis Act: Annotation and Commentary.Chris' case laid the scientific foundation for why cannabis must be legal, and gave our elected officials the comfort against the myths and racist rhetoric. Chris, Alan and Paul deserve the Order of Canada for lifting Canada out of the dark ages of an unnecessary and very harmful prohibition. On the day of legalization, Chris rang the bell opening the stock exchange. And post-legalization, Chris brought Hemp Nation back to life as Hemp Nation Outfitters, now a store on Vancouver Island. Check it out!I hope you enjoy listening to this interview as much as I did recording it.Engineering of this podcast was done by Jeremy Benning.Music was created and performed by Albert Wong.

The 27th Disney animated feature film, the film is based on the classic Charles Dickens novel Oliver Twist, which has been adapted many other times for the screen. In the film, Oliver is a homeless kitten who joins a gang of dogs to survive in the streets. Among other changes, the setting of the film was relocated from 19th century London to modern-day New York City, Fagin's gang is made up of dogs (one of which is Dodger), and Sykes is a loan shark.Following the release of The Black Cauldron, Michael Eisner and Jeffrey Katzenberg held a pitch meeting with the animation staff, in which story artist Pete Young pitched the idea to adapt Oliver Twist with dogs. The pitch was quickly approved, and the film quickly went into production under the working title Oliver and the Dodger. Released on the same day as The Land Before Time, Oliver & Company was a box office success, but it received mixed reviews from film critics. IMDB: When Oliver wakes up after sleeping on the truck tire, he sees people crossing past the alley where he's slept. One of those people is Roger from One Hundred and One Dalmatians (1961) (look for the guy with the brown hair, blue shirt, and blue pants).Animators shot photos of New York streets as reference, using cameras set eighteen inches off the ground to get a dog's point of view. One of few animated films to feature a front-and-center shot of New York City's Twin Towers. After the tragedy of 9/11, when shots of the iconic towers were being removed from many films to avoid upsetting people, Disney opted not to attempt to edit out the towers, mostly because it would ruin the film's original main title card and because it would be too time-consuming and costly to do. By 2001, Oliver & Company had already been widely distributed on VHS, so there was no point in editing it. Many New Yorkers later commended Disney not altering the film because they felt it was a good portrayal of the way New York used to be before 9/11, and they wanted it left as it was with the towers visible. The first Disney film to have its own department set up expressly for the purpose of generating computer animation. The last animated Disney Classic to use line overlay, also called cel overlay, a technique used to make the backgrounds match the lines of the xeroxed objects in the film.Dom DeLuise (Fagin) had already had roles in several other animated films by this point, namely those by Don Bluth, but this was the only time he got the chance to voice a character in a Disney film. He loved the role so much, he kept ad-libbing lines that ended up being included in the film. He even chose to be in Oliver & Company (1988) over Bluth's The Land Before Time (1988) which released on the same day.The song "Why Should I Worry?" was later used as the theme song of a Disney TV series starring Joey Lawrence, who voiced Oliver in this film.As of 2017, this is the only film in which Billy Joel has had an acting role (all other credited roles have been as himself or as the lead in his music videos).Segment: News/Announcements “The Newsies Banner”Central Florida Theme Park Reopening GuidelinesDisney streamed it’s Magic Kingdom Fireworks show “Happily Ever After” last Friday, April 24th.The Rise of Skywalker coming to Disney + May 4thSegment: Miscellaneous “whosits and whatsits galore”Trivia!Segment: Top 4 Ranking “Let’s get down to business” 1. Pete Young played a key role in leading the transformation of Australia Post’s digital consumer experience. The journey to transformation at this 210-year-old institution began when they focused on fixing one specific problem: 15% of the customer base consistently missing first time delivery of a parcel. Young also shares how, in two years, focus a single metric resulted in a 7% increase in successful first-time deliveries – a significant impact for an organization with 5 million digital customer accounts. Learn how his team shifted focus from measuring outcomes instead of outputs, the importance of leadership support, and how Young works with the not-so-Agile parts of the enterprise. Welcome back the 3rd episode of the DeanBlundell.com CannaCast. On today's episode, we are very pleased to have musician, actor, radio host, and activist Henry Rollins on the show. Rollins who isn't a cannabis user but an advocate for the freedom, fairness and medical upside of the product explains why the legalization of it is so important to the future of big business and generations to come. What will the young cannabis entrepreneurs do with their billions of dollars to enact change? Hands down, this was one of our best conversations to date! We switch gears to Pete Young. Young has been a long-time cannabis activist and founder of the Ontario-based London Compassion Society in the mid-90s. He is now a partner at INDIVA ( a licenced producer) with over 10,000 square feet of production space, where he also doubles as a master grower. We get into strains, doses, usage and growing. Enjoy episode #3 of the Deanblundell.com CannaCast! See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
It is a goal of this podcast to extend understanding of Holistic Education beyond schools—holistic, alternative, homeschooling, or others. To that end our podcast today centers on a remarkable organization dedicated to Rites of Passage, a great and mostly ignored holistic learning opportunity. Pete Young is the designer of the Raven weekend, a Rite of Passage for children between 9 and 12. In existence for 10 years, Pete has recently pioneered a coed Rite of Passage using the Raven format. It is, to our knowledge, the first intensive coed Rite of Passage.Pete has travelled an unusual path to becoming one of the most creative leaders in the field. Of course it starts and is continually nourished by Pete’s intense desire for self-knowledge and the awakening of consciousness. The led to two critical engagements—the Mankind project and Natural Learning Relationships. Mankind put Pete in touch with coming-of-age Rites of Passage for young men as well as a community dedicated to self-growth. Natural Learning Relationships gave Pete the understanding of how children organize their world and the structure and dynamics of Rites of Passage. There are those people who engage Natural Learning Relationships and just get it. The appreciation of a child’s consciousness—of how they see and organize their world—clicks with their intuitive and experiential knowledge of themselves and the children in their lives. Often they become Natural Learning Relationships enthusiasts and apply it in their homes, life and schools. Pete became a Natural Learning Relationships enthusiast. He applied it to his family and saw excellent results. He facillitated Rites of Passage for male teens with the Mankind project and saw the many ways Natural Learning Relationships accurately described how teens organize their world. And then he created the Raven Training, a Rite of Passage for males, at first, and then for males and females together under the umbrella organization Alliance of Generations. Pete added follow up meetings so that the learning of the Raven weekend could grow in all participants. If that was all Pete did he should be celebrated near and far. But Pete became a leader in Restorative Justice in his home county and regularly works with adjudicated youth in the Oregon penal system.Pete Young lives holistic insight and practice. That he brings to diverse venues is simply an extension of his life and practice. Click here for a transcript of the podcast

During the civil rights era, North Carolina was home to more dues-paying Klan members than the rest of the South combined. When conducting research on this chapter of history for his acclaimed book Klansville, USA, sociologist David Cunningham encountered the work of a journalist named Pete Young, who in the 1960s attempted to understand what was happening in North Carolina. Cunningham shares some of this history and describes how Young's insights could hold lessons for today.
