This week we're exploring embodiment science in education with some of the worlds leading embodiment practitioners and cognitive scientists! We believe that this is one of the most important shifts happening in education globally, which is simultaneously so simple, and yet so hard to budge given the depths of the tendencies towards disembodiment, especially in the Western tradition, that we explore. Joining Tim in this fantastic conversation are:Arawana Hayashi heads the creation of Social Presencing Theater (SPT) for the Presencing Institute. Working with Otto Scharmer and colleagues, she brings her background in the arts, meditation, and social justice to creating “social presencing” that makes visible both current reality and emerging future possibilities for individuals and groups. "Education wasn't for certain people." In this conversation, Phil and Professor Colin Beard delve into the history and evolution of experiential learning, exploring its prehistory and the cognitive capacities that have shaped human learning. They discuss the limitations of traditional educational models and the importance of recognizing the contributions of lesser-known figures in education, such as Maria Montessori and Marina Ewald. The conversation culminates in the introduction of the Holistic Experiential Learning Model (HELM), emphasizing the need for a more complex understanding of learning that incorporates various human capacities.   Humans have been learning throughout their entire existence. The evolution of learning capacities spans millions of years. Traditional educational models often overlook essential cognitive functions. Maria Montessori's contributions to education are significant yet underrecognized. The complexity of learning requires a holistic approach. Experiential learning should utilize all human capacities. Simplicity in educational models can lead to limitations. The importance of questioning in the learning process is paramount. Silenced voices in education highlight systemic biases. The Holistic Experiential Learning Model (HELM) offers a new perspective on learning. At the tender age of 18, Zen Benefiel experienced a profound near-death experience (NDE) that became the gateway to a lifetime of profound transformation and  exploration. During this remarkable event, Zen found himself on the threshold between life and death, experiencing a profound shift in consciousness and an intimate connection with the divine. Zen's NDE became the catalyst for his lifelong journey of self-discovery, leading him to explore diverse spiritual traditions, engage in scientific research, and seek out wisdom teachings from ancient cultures. This transformative experience continues to shape his perspective, infusing his work as an author, leader, speaker, and podcast host with a profound sense of compassion, authenticity, and reverence for the mysteries of existence.  Key Takeaways:We need to focus on some of the ancient and indigenous teachings rather than just the academic and physical ones we currently do.We are not listening to students enough and neglecting the social emotional aspect of learning along with how to learn instead of just hitting a standard. If students are emotionally available to learn, they will not be able to learn. You can't change a system without changing the people in it first because the people are the systemWe currently teach people to think and then feel where we should be focusing on feeling and then thinking.Control is the default when we are afraid and don't know the answer. We can only engage in meaningful self examination, if we are psychologically safe and intellectually humble enough to do so.Where we focus our attention and intention is where we will achieve.Everything in life is a choice and it's our perception based on our perspective that guides us in making them.Stay in Touch:WebsiteDon't Forget to Review the Show!I appreciate you checking out the episodes. Welcome to Cuppa 36.5 of 40. In this episode of the 40 for Tea, host Rachel Allan has a heartfelt and profound conversation with world-renowned activist, peacemaker, and author, Satish Kumar.  With over half a century of activism, Satish is a beacon of hope, drawing from his profound interactions with figures like Pope Francis and Martin Luther King to inspire global change. Satish recounts his poignant journey delivering peace tea to global leaders, advocating for mindfulness, unity, and heart-led communication in times of adversity. He shares anecdotes of bridging divides with a cup of tea, a powerful conversation and connection with nature, advocating for patience and trust in the tireless pursuit of justice. As co-founder of Schumacher College, Satish talks of regenerative practices and sustainable living, grounding his teachings in the belief that the economy should enhance human and planetary well-being, not exploit it. He reframes HR from Human Resources to Human Relationships. Painting a compelling portrait of an economy that celebrates human relationships and operates within the ecological "doughnut." We delve into Satish's guiding principles – soil, soul, and society – and how we must nurture each dimension to foster environmental and spiritual connectivity. With coherent and compassionate wisdom, Satish champions love as the metaphysical gravity that holds our universe together. We celebrate the power of love, optimism, and the courage to transform not just our external world, but our inner landscapes as well.  This is not just an episode; it's an invitation to pause, reflect, and join us on a journey to uncover what truly matters. We discuss this in depth, emphasizing the critical role of parents in shaping a child's character. We had a room in our house we called the parlor. And if there was conflict between anybody, we would go into that room and process that [conflict]. And we would wait there until we had a healthy resolution. And my grown kids have come back to me and said that time has taught them a lot about conflict resolution that they're using in their friendships and marriages now.”—Heather Frommack

We take a deep dive into the sensemaking of design and strategy starting with reminiscing college days at Ball State University. Both of us had similar 'awakenings' that changed our outlook on life. Brady Mick is on sabbatical currently from strategic design and planning, having been a facilitator of process and workplace design. His passion for co-creating cohesion in customer/vendor/production environments brought much sensemaking to his practice. Then a strange thing happen. He followed his gut feeling that he needed a change and left a leading education and workplace design and thought leadership firm. Although the workplace was a great experience, he felt there was still something more and took a leap of faith to find out. Our chat explores the trending of organizational development that is springing from the archaic notions of the greats from the era of assembly and production. We explore the new(er) notions of sensemaking and emergence of real innovation in the co-creation of new agile systems within organizations. Bringing the younger generation on board, Brady speaks to a surprising realization from observing his teenage son playing video games. Most of us are bereft of solutions for engaging teens beyond the gaming lifestyle they have today, often affecting school performance negatively. He sees something beyond that and you'll be pleasantly surprised at the re-framing. This was a most enjoyable conversation that you'll enjoy, a real-life exploration of things that matter to all of us from personal growth to family to building community. What really is the 'age of enlightenment' as it relates to the evolution of humanity now? Are we moving into, as Brady calls it, the 'age of intuition.' From Brady... I am designing my future. In this new reality, I imagine that: “Status quo” is a creative challenge Divergent and new ideas are welcome Work process is for people to produce results in a positive experience Purposeful design requires deep thinking Teams are built on a strengths-based philosophy Innovation is valued as equal to collaboration Learning is currency The future has meaning and purpose. with Brady on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brady-mick/ ______________________________________________________________________________ Academian Mironova's Dissertation: https://youtu.be/sMxvNJMiJHs Brady's Reflection: Zen is a rare spirit in pursuit of the higher value understanding we all need to thrive. I invite a legend in the training industry, Jim Britt, to share his own awakening process and tasty tidbits of transcendence. Jim describes a process he went through while living in Sedona, where he had his own apocalypse. His story reflects an old saying I love. “No matter how far you have gone on the wrong road, turn back.” — Turkish proverb. Jim looks into what being resourceful means and has a very interesting story about his learning process about it. Listen in to experience an accelerated learning curve with what Jim shares. His discovery and questions that evolved are compelling, involving the 'S' section of a very old dictionary in the UK. You'll enjoy the response from me with a similar dictionary story. What about the programming we live by? How deep does it go? Jim shares about a woman who changes her life in a matter of hours by just changing how she thinks, with support. What kind of support are you getting? Is it for you benefit or detriment? Spirituality, the Law of Attraction, the Sedona Method et al; move one to a higher level of acceptance and non-attachment. We chat about the apocalyptic moments of realization and the effect of changing your mindset and 'letting go.' Do you have an observer? What would you ask millionaires or billionaires? Imagine if you had the opportunity. How are we coming out of Covid, Jim? Can we be more caring and compassionate toward one another? Looking back in order to glean the best experiences you've had, including mentors, what do you need to bring back today in order to co-create your 'new normal' today? Diving further, how do you handle your beliefs? Listen to Jim's question to the Dalai Lama. We further explore how we interact with each other, the challenges we meet and how we overcome them. Perhaps you'll hear something that makes a difference for you. Thanks for the view. Remember to subscribe! The wisdom of our elders is often diminished by their inability to share and our unwillingness to listen. Erica's life story is profound and our journey through the travesty to triumph of a holocaust survivor to her inspirationally-filled lifestyle today as a fearless example for others is replete with tasty tidbits of transcendence she shares here. She's bright and unabashed in her tales of transcendence. Zen's conversational dance delivers diverse perspectives from Dr. Erica Miller's life story. The horrifying reality of her presence during the holocaust and the imagery she still carries is significant to her passion and purpose now. This octogenarian is still full of life and love for helping others and anticipates living to be well over 100. As a clinical psychologist, our chat engages her perspectives and perceptions of how a fearless approach to life virtually eliminates destructive behavior patterns. The intertwining of passion and purpose bring the opportunities to share a greater confidence and inspiration for her audiences and example of a connected life. At 88 she continues to travel the world to deliver impactful and life-changing messages. After four years of indescribable oppression and deprivation, Erica, her parents, and her sister were liberated by the Russians. Erica had no formal education while in the concentration camp. Entering school for first time at age 11 (or fifth grade), she quickly learned the basics of reading, writing and math. Much to the surprise, and in some cases chagrin, of her teachers and classmates, she excelled at all three. In 1970, Erica returned to school and eight years later, graduated with a Ph.D. in clinical psychology. Shortly afterwards, leveraging her unparalleled drive and her husband's keen marketing skills, they opened a chain of mental health clinics throughout Los Angeles and Orange County. In addition, they ran California Diversion Intervention Foundation, a non-profit organization, offering programs to serve the needs of the substance abuse and domestic violence population referred by the Courts. Today, in addition to public speaking, Dr. Miller oversees her family's real estate business in Austin, Texas. She's written three books: “The Dr. Erica Miller Story: From Trauma to Triumph,” https://amzn.to/36oCRjg “Don't Tell Me I Can't Do It: Living Audaciously in the Here and Now” https://amzn.to/3hto3pU and the international best-seller, “Chronologically Gifted: Aging with Gusto!” https://amzn.to/3yHFsku For more... https://drericamiller.com Dublin Fearless Women's Summit: https://youtu.be/f_w8HcL9RS4 Erica on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drericamiller/ ____________________________________________________________________ Zen's Re:Build presentation on Holistic Education: https://youtu.be/_rTBroZHwAQ Subscribe to One World in a New World - https://www.youtube.com/c/OneWorldinaNewWorld Zen's books on Amazon: https://amazon.com/author/zendor Music: Outcasts and Social Misfits (Zen on drums) Buy Zen a cup of coffee: https://bit.ly/3gxIceb Digital Vitae: https://zenbenefiel.com Transformational Life Coach: https://BeTheDream.com

In one of our most eye-opening episodes ever we dive into how critical and vital it is for our teens to have a holistic education.  Marissa Fogelman doesn't just talk about it, she lives it, and instills it in the teens she works with.  Specifically she encourages parents to help their teens by adopting the mindset of the 5 building blocks which are: 1) Mental Power 2) Emotional Intelligence 3) Social Skills 4) Physical Well-Being 5) Personal Development If you've been disenfranchised with the public school system, or if you just know that for you and your teen there has got to be something more, than I highly encourage you to take detailed notes on this episode! ----more---- Marisa Fogelman - Founder, Integra Development Center Marisa Fogelman has always identified as an educator. By the time she graduated high school, she knew her life's purpose included opening a school and changing our educational paradigm. She followed her dream and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from the University of California, Berkeley and her master's degree in English Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. While living in New York City, Marisa taught high school English and helped to grow and develop a school from its second year of inception. For over a decade, Marisa lived her life's passion as a progressive educator, working with students from diverse backgrounds in various educational settings. When she knew the time had come to transform education, she moved to San Diego. She obtained her California Single Subject Teaching Credential in English and furthered her experience by holding a position as Regional College Readiness Counselor. In this role, she supported high school students at six campuses, helping them design and execute a vision for their future.  In 2017, Marisa and her founding team successfully gained approval and opened SOUL Charter School. As the Executive Director of SOUL, Marisa carried out the mission and vision of the school which was to ensure a safe, positive nurturing environment, provide a holistic approach to education through Integra (the holistic program), and engage students in project based learning. Although SOUL has since closed its doors, its legacy lives on in the families and students we were incredibly grateful to serve.  Given the current conditions of our time, Marisa is excited to offer a one of a kind program to the community. She has always believed that there is nothing of greater importance than to invest in our youth. Through the Integra Development Center, Marisa will continue her life's purpose guiding students towards having a deeper sense of self, helping them to connect to their life's passions and purpose, and ensuring they gain the tools to thrive, mentally, emotionally, socially, physically, and personally. As our most precious resource, our children will masterfully create a better world for us to live in. website: https://www.integraeducation.org/ ----more---- Thank-you for listening to the Parent Teen Mindset Show! In episode 4 of Healthy Happy Home, we talk about a holistic approach to education with forest school leader, Dominic Miles. We are learning more and more about the importance and benefits of child-led learning, with some mainstream schools even implementing some more holistic education systems. We talk here about why the Western way of schooling is not conducive to positive learning and how, in the words of Sir Ken Robinson, schools can kill creativity. We talk about why the Scandinavian education system is the most successful in the world – and not successful based on OFSTED points, but based on the happiness and growth of the children and how much better they learn. We delve into all different types of holistic schooling methods – such as Forest School, Waldorf Steiner, Montessori, Home Schooling, Unschooling, Wild Schooling and even Road schooling – which urgently highlights how many of us are realising that the current model of education, which was created to service the needs of the industrial revolution, no longer works and is not only killing children's creativity, but is preventing them for growing into their best selves. Dominic, as a former school teacher himself, offers invaluable insight into our need to reform our education system and what we do to help our children. A truly illuminating and enriching episode for anyone who has children, is planning to have children, or anyone simply interested in personal growth.
