Between the fire on Main Street and then the big blizzard, posting Episode 3 was unexpectedly delayed- but we hope you'll agree it was worth the wait! Part 1- We get caught up on some recent events, including the passing of long time friend Norm Dahmer, who wrestled in Canada as Killer Austin in the 1980's; the CKY reunion with Steve Vogelsang that was a great time organized by Peter Young; and the Celebration of LIfe for Ted Wyman, the fun-loving musician and Winnipeg Sun sports editor who passed away far too soon. 15.20 Part 2 - An analysis of the press conference held by Premier Wab Kinew and Mayor Scott Gillingham to announce the "Your Way Home' plan to eradicate illegal encampments. Here was Marty's report in the Sun: https://winnipegsun.com/news/provincial/manitoba-introduces-plan-to-end-chronic-homelessness As you'll hear, the blame for the situation getting out of control rests with former Mayor Brian Bowman, who refused to let police or council crack down on homeless criminals and now evades accountability after his politically-motivated appointment by Justin Trudeau to the King's Bench. We note why the plan was rushed into the public realm, the selling job, how the plan will supposedly work, and whether the new apartments will truly be safe. There's an explanation of how the NDP is botching- or rigging, depending on who you ask- the public consultation process, including the use of a malfunctioning website. It's a total embarrassment for city hall. 46.50- A Free Press story about a Daudrich campaign event displayed the open bias of the Free Press reporter, who ignored his extensive remarks about the economy and instead tried to smear Daudrich because- horrors- he and some of his supporters have "right wing" opinions the newspaper doesn't approve of and wants their readers to find revolting. How many times has the Green Party been described as "far left"? Never. How many sexes does Carol Sanders think exist? She should tell us. 52.10- A column by Tom Brodbeck continued the Free Press scare narrative about Covid. He's obsessed with the fact almost 85% of Manitobans don't line up for more boosters. As Peter recounts his experience, he highlights the subtle signs of manipulation and the profound impact of spiritual abuse on personal identity and faith. Listeners will gain valuable insights into recognizing the warning signs of cult-like behavior and the importance of surrounding themselves with supportive, truth-driven leaders. Through Peter's resilience and faith, he demonstrates the hope of recovery and the path to rediscovering one's true identity in Christ.Takeaways: Peter Young's journey reveals how easily one can become entangled in a cult-like community. Cult leaders often start with truth but gradually twist it to maintain control over members. Recognizing red flags, such as isolation from loved ones, can help prevent cult involvement. The emotional aftermath of leaving a cult can be devastating and requires significant healing. Faith can remain intact even when one is misled by a narcissistic leader. It's crucial for friends and family to reach out and support those in potential cult situations. _____________________________________________Check Out These Amazing LinksModernIQs is a sponsor of the Kingdom Cross Roads Podcast Newsletter: Transform your creative workflow with ModernIQs! This episode is a special one as it brings you my impressions from the Liberty in Our Lifetime Conference held in Prague from November 1 to 3. Unlike my usual format of monologues or single guest interviews, this episode features brief conversations with six presenters from the conference, split into two parts. In this first part, I speak with Massimo Mazzone about building a blue-collar Free City in Honduras, followed by discussions with urban economist Vera Kichanova, and Tatiana Butanka, who shares insights on the Free Community of Montelibero. The conference, which generally leans towards libertarian ideas, showcases an astounding range of initiatives aimed at enhancing liberty in society. I explore why successful societies should embrace explorers and risk-takers, questioning whether today's fear of challenging the status quo contradicts a progressive mindset. This aligns with Tatiana Butanka's appreciation for the variety of projects that are present at this conference and Lauren Razavi's call for the need of "revolutionary thinking with evolutionary approaches." Part two (Episode #114) will continue with conversations with Lauren Razavi, who is building an online country for digital nomads, Grant Romundt, discussing his project on floating homes, and Peter Young from the Free Cities Foundation, reflecting on free cities and the conference's outcomes. I emphasize the importance of experimentation in dynamic societies, suggesting that progress relies on educated experiments and unique ideas, some of which will succeed, fail, or at least inspire. The discussions explore the balance between collective action and individual liberty, questioning if modern democracies have swung too far towards government control. Two additional remarks:   No financial advice is given, despite mentions of new financial instruments in some conversations. For full disclosure: I received a free ticket for the conference. The original band was formed in 1968 in Los Angeles as The Flying Burrito Brothers.  Its classic lineup featured country rock pioneer, the late Gram Parsons, and former founding Byrds members bassist Chris Hillman and drummer Michael Clarke, along with eventual original Eagles member Bernie Leadon on lead guitar and pedal steel guitar genius Sneaky Pete Kleinow. The band's first two albums, The Gilded Palace of Sin (which Rolling Stone listed at number 192 on its list of 500 Greatest Albums of All Time) and Burrito Deluxe, remain highly influential, acclaimed works which helped put country-rock on the map.  Because Parsons and Keith Richards were good friends, Burrito Deluxe contains the first issued version of the Mick Jagger/Keith Richards-written song "Wild Horses," released almost a year before the The Rolling Stones own take on it appeared on Sticky Fingers.  These days, the band, who formed the current incarnation of the Burritos in 2009, and are now based in Nashville, features Chris P. James on keys and lead vocals, guitarist Steve Allen, Tony Paoletta on pedal steel and drummer Peter Young…all extremely talented musicians who love being involved with the band's legacy and creating new music to keep that legacy alive. Chris, Tony, and Pete have played together since the 1990 starting together in the band Mr. Hyde. They know each other's musical moves every which way possible. This band is tuned in, turned on, upbeat and loaded with great songwriting and musicianship. These guys are truly “brothers.” Steve Allen has got the guitar thing going strong with benders and 12-strings and telecasters and acoustics He also plays.  A mean bass. “Smiling” Tony Paoletta is a truly gifted pedal steel player. He's fully versed in the Sneaky Pete oeuvre. And, essentially, every other steel player who came before him. Tony brings unlimited creativity to the table. His admirers are legion. Peter Young is a consummate drummer. The familiarity these fellows have with each other's musicianship is near-perfect. Everything's fine cuz Pete's holdin' down the time. Been doing it a long, long while. In various combinations, these guys have recorded more sessions together than you could count. Pete sings a real nice harmony too. And Chris P. James is their front man. He plays keyboards and guitar and harmonica. Writes songs too. He wound up with the Burrito Brothers in 2009. He was offered a record deal to make a new album in 2010 by the group that would trademark and continue as The Burrito Brothers. Or he could decline. What kind of choice is that? Of course, The Burrito Brothers are alive! And that is definitely a good, good thing. They continue to carry the torch via the Together release, which features superb musicianship, tight ensemble playing, beautiful harmonies and excellent songwriting. The album features 10 new, tracks that continue in the Burrito's longstanding musical tradition while forging ahead in the present and towards the future.  Track Listing: 1.Ms Misery / 2. Mr. Customs Man / 3. Together / 4. I Find Love / 5. Let Go / 6. Blood On His Hands / 7. Boiling Point / 8. Streets Of Santa Rosa /  9. I Live For Loving You / 10. History Suite Will James from Gram Parsons International says, ““This latest incarnation is the closest to the original FBB sound of all of the previous bands.” Gram Parsons said it best…The idea'll keep going on. It's not like it's dead or anything. Whether I do it or anybody else does it, it's got to keep going."    Please use the following links below to access all things The Burrito Brothers including photos, bio, and a discography. Season 4, Episode 1, Part 1- We are making a difference, as 2023 proved. Marty Gold thanks the audience and pledges to keep up the pace. Fan mail is reviewed, and then there's talk about the final episodes of 2023, and the first ActionLine.ca post of 2024- the Bobby Hull retrospective with guest Peter Young. 07:40 Part 2 - A Pollyanna is a person with irrepressible optimism and a tendency to find good in everything. Also- "a sunshine-spreading orphan". Enter Dr. Joss Reimer. On the morning of New Year's Eve, the local media darling started a Twitter thread: "I work on Main street, north of the Disraeli bridge.  I run or bike to work.  People (usually people who do not walk around in that area) often tell me how dangerous that is.  Here is my experience:" The Chief Medical Officer of the WRHA said she's "never witnessed any violence apart from cars." "SUVs and trucks are a very real danger on all our roads" "I'm left wondering how much the perception of danger downtown is just good old fashioned racism." The message from the president-elect of the CMA, the national doctors body? If you're driving downtown to a game, concert, buffet at East India Company- YOU'RE the danger downtown. AND if you're afraid of being mugged or carjacked? You're a racist! But a parody 'Bart Kives' account framed her "pillar of the community" comment precisely, as did others who refuted Reimer's woke derangment. It's rare to see a public figure get so thoroughly slapped down for not knowing what they were talking about. You'll hear about Marty's firsthand experience within 3 minutes at the Portage Place food court on Wednesday. Restauranteur Ravi Ramberran had just told CJOB: "It makes it hard for people to feel safe coming to work...this is the new normal now. I refuse to see that happen." Reimer, who doesn't pay from her own pocket when windows are broken or doors are smashed, refuses to see it at all. People asked if she's spoken with medical staff at HSC, or with women at all, about downtown safety. For instance: on Dec. 4, Romeo Chris Miles pleaded guilty to threatening an off-duty cop- with a machete. He got a year of supervised probation despite persistently failing to comply with court orders, assaults, thefts, robbery, break-and-enter and thefts. Five days later he was part of a kidnapping, sexual assault and robbery of a young woman, left in a downtown dumpster. Would Dr. Reimer say that the victim's fear of that lifetime criminal with an IQ of 44 was "racist"? Get all our columns and podcasts at ActionLine.ca Email Comments, News tips or donate via Interac- martygoldlive@gmail.com 26.20 Part 3- Among the 'racists' who challenged Reimer's gaslighting was a number of women who described averting naked men with knives, car-jackings, skywalk scares, and bear spray. One woman 'woke' the highly-woke Reimer up to their reality: "I think this is an irresponsible post. You dismiss others' safety concerns with such little regard simply biased on your own privileged experience" "I work downtown and have for 18 years. Pre-covid was a way different vibe. People are now unpredictable..." "if your whole point was really the jab at cars, and to point out how much you choose alternative transportation then just say it. At least then others aren't shamed" 32:29 - Part 4- A recap of the Top 10 episodes of 2023! The list included a transit union scandal, four interviews, election news, and East St. Paul parents defending Mother's Day. Marty also points listeners to our Christmas Day column- which got a response from an MP and a City Councilor. He adds a concluding thought about functioning seniors in their sunset years kept in secure facilities while Miles was allowed out in public. Dr. Joss Reimer should answer questions about that, from a public health perspective. Please review our top podcasts using the links on our Donate page! Overcoming Cult Manipulation and an Impossible DivorcePeter Young joins hosts Seth Nelson and Pete Wright to share his harrowing experience getting sucked into a cult led by his wife's "Uncle Robert", trying to save his marriage and protect his kids, and the messy divorce that followed.Peter's StoryPeter met his wife Paige when he was working as a sports broadcaster in Idaho. Paige had been born into a cult led by "Uncle Robert" and was completely under his control. Though skeptical at first, after 20 years of marriage Peter eventually got pulled into the cult mentality as well. When Paige ultimately chose loyalty to Uncle Robert over staying married, it led to a nasty divorce and parental alienation of their children.Peter describes how Uncle Robert used manipulation, paranoia, and ideological indoctrination to gain total control over Paige and eventually himself. Even after Paige filed for divorce, Peter fought hard to save his marriage and protect his kids from her cult delusions. With the help of a guardian ad litem, Peter was granted custody of their minor children. But the divorce process was dragged out through endless frivolous motions from his ex-wife.Key TakeawaysThe role of a Guardian ad Litem in high-conflict custody casesStrategies for dealing with a spouse who files endless frivolous motionsHow to navigate a divorce when your spouse is representing themselves (pro se)The long-term trauma of parental alienationTips for saving money during an expensive divorce processImportance of being the "bigger person" and avoiding conflictQuestions AnsweredHow can you save money when a spouse files endless frivolous motions during divorce? What advice does Peter have for others going through a difficult divorce? How to handle co-parenting with an ex who is manipulative or abusiveAbout PeterPeter Young is an author and former sports broadcaster. Jonestown, Branch Davidians, Moonies, The Source Family. We have heard of some of the biggest cults of all time. This week we examine the rise of "micro-cults". Rather than have hundreds of followers that make waves in society following one leader there is a growing prevalence on cults with 10-20 members following a guru, be it a family member or someone who has just latched on to a family. That is exactly what happened to Peter Young when he married into a family who had a "family guru" after several years of marriage he realized that his character who went by "Uncle Robert" was much more than a family friend, but someone who controlled his wife and her immediate family. Through years of battles and a lot of truly mind blowing things happening (stolen wedding rings, "casino church', and surrogacy for the leader) this cult finally made him lose his marriage when he would not submit completely to the teaching. This is a remarkable story about the power of a cult of personality and getting out before it is too late._____________________________________Pick Up "Stop the Tall Man, Save the Tiger" here: https://shorturl.at/eklP7Peter's Website: https://www.authorpeteryoung.com/—————————————————————Link to all things Not in a Huff Podcast: https://linktr.ee/notinahuffpodcastPlease follow/subscribe to the podcast to be the first to see new episodes when they come out each week. He's written two books, The Blue Team, and Stop the Tall Man, Save the Tiger. Life has thrown him many curveballs, including an unexpected transition out of sports broadcasting. But probably the biggest curveball was realizing that he and his family had spent years in a cult - and they didn't realize it. Now, looking back, he has a powerful perspective on the importance of good leadership - especially in the home - and how to recognize the kind of toxic leadership and culture that has the potential to create a cult. His story can enlighten us to the dangers of powerful, but misguided (and misguiding) leadership. The Wagner mutiny in Russia; and other stories from Russia, Peru, Bangladesh and Denmark. The mutiny by Russia's Wagner mercenaries ended as quickly as it started. The fighters had taken the southern Russian city and military hub Rostov-on-Don, and were heading for Moscow, when their leader called it all off. How do the capital's residents view these events? Russia says it has lost 6000 soldiers in Ukraine, but the true figure is thought to be 40,000 to 60,000. Olga Ivshina has been tracking her country's military fatalities with other volunteers, and has so far counted 25,000. Sometimes their relatives didn't even know they had died. Peru is suffering its worst outbreak of dengue fever on record, following unusually hot and wet weather conditions. The viral disease is carried by mosquitoes and can cause severe joint and muscle pain, even death. Dan Collyns travelled to the centre of Peru's epidemic in Piura in northern Peru. Bangladesh used to have high rates of pregnancy or childbirth-related deaths, and of children dying in infancy due to low rates of vaccination. But now illness and deaths have been drastically reduced, thanks to the "disease detectives" scheme - women offering healthcare to millions. Peter Young went to see how it works. Denmark's small prison population has been growing due to harsher sentencing, but the number of prison officers is falling, leading to concerns about overcrowding, and the quality of the prison regime. Polina Bachlakova found the impact is even felt in a prison's choir. If you're not in a cult, are you being influenced by groups, perhaps on social media that operate as one?  The more disturbing questions is, would you know?My guest for this episode says that “you never know that you are in a cult, you only know you were in one.” Wikipedia describes a cult as a term used for “a relatively small group which is typically led by a charismatic and self-appointed leader, who excessively controls its members, requiring unwavering devotion to a set of beliefs and practices...”Cults can influence its members subtly with strategies such as: ·      Exploiting our confirmation biases, refuting any evidence or perspective that challenges the beliefs of the group, or simply offers another idea as a possibility.·      Preys on our fears, we are only safe from “them” when under the guidance of a charismatic thought leader, guru and the special members of the group who are different, who know the real truth, the special or awakened few. ·      Build their ideology on partial truths to make their teachings seem plausible, but never backed by hard empirical evidence.  ·      Anchors their philosophy around emotionally charged words or language that conditions members to react without critical thinking around context. ·      Weaponizing virtues.  The group believes in a highly specific way of life, set of beliefs, a virtuous philosophy in which anyone who believes differently is either lost, evil, deceived or deeply deficient in some way.  ·      Financial exploitation.  Money is given to the leader, either directly or in exchange for training; not around the acquisition of skills, applied knowledge or a particular craft, but rather so you can learn how to be more like the leader and their inner circle.  ·      Members are encouraged to isolate themselves from people who think differently, or even from individuals who question any aspect of the group's beliefs and practices.  Any of this sound familiar?   My guest for this fascinating episode was surprised to find himself in a religious cult.   In his raw, vulnerable, and powerfully engaging memoir, Peter Young provides an unflinching look at how cult leaders brainwash their followers and infect them with condemnation, hatred, and paranoia.A basketball coach, author, and successful sports broadcaster for organizations such as ESPN, Peter Youngs life was good.  When he met Paige, the love of his life, it was perfect, she was perfect.  Life seemed too good to be true.  However, when Peter married Paige, he unwittingly married into a whole new world, one dominated by the family guru, the bizarre Uncle Robert. While trying to remain close to Paige and thus save his marriage, Peter was unwittingly sucked into the tiny cult of Uncle Robert, where casinos are churches and Jews conspire to rule the world. For nearly twenty years Peter allowed himself to be slowly brainwashed, missing the obvious signs he was in a cult, including the true meaning of the mysterious tiger dream, which is detailed in his riveting book “Stop the Tall Man, Save the Tiger.” His book can be found on amazon and wherever books are sold.  I loved this conversation with Peter, I found it to be deeply interesting, shocking, at times disturbing, but important and engaging.  Peter's background is Christianity.  His faith is expressed throughout our conversation.  Yet, regardless of your background or spiritual beliefs, this conversation is a relevant one.  Enjoy Visit us at:www.theselfhelpantidote.com

Or a large , identically dressed congregation being led in a mass ceremony? What if I brought you and expert who was part of a cult for 20 years and still lived his life from his own home just like any other normal person? Because I did. Welcome to the Just Dumb Enough Podcast. A show that acknowledges no one is always an expert, by dispelling misconceptions with real experts. I'm your host as always Colton Petry. My guest today is Peter Young. Peter lived his life as a sports broadcaster, covering events far and wide, on tv screens and radio programs regularly, all while slowly being drug into the dark bowels of a cult by the person he loved most in the world. Obviously, he's made his escape since then, but it was far from easy or clean. Let's avoid getting indoctrinated! I hope none of you are in any cults right now, small or large. If you are... stop it. Come on, stop that. And if you're the godhead figure running a cult currently, hit me up. That would be a fascinating interview and might go nicely towards completing a full religion episode series for the show. It's also just about the last week of May and here's the rankings so far: 1. The United States, with Texas, Oregon, and Arizona as top states. 2. Canada, with Ontario still dominating. 3. Australia, with Victoria way at the top. 4. The United Kingdom. 5. Sweden, now led by Stockholm. Anyway, that's it for today! Have a great week and I'll hopefully see you all back here on Thursday! Peter Young is the managing director of the Free Cities Foundation. In this interview, we discuss the development of autonomous administrative areas around the world called ‘free cities', where new types of governance can be offered to citizens outside the control of existing states. - - - - Paul Romer, former chief economist at the World Bank and a Nobel prize winner, proposed in 2009 the concept of Charter Cities. Romer was trying to tackle the problem of stagnant investment in the Global South arising from bad governance. The solution was to evolve the idea behind special economic zones and create autonomous city-states within existing countries. The autonomy would extend to alternate legal and political systems from the host nation, and to the provision of services by private organisations. An advanced guarantor country would protect the legal rights of residents. The idea was that such cities would become trusted centres predicated on good rules, attracting investment, firms and people, the benefits of which then filter beyond the cities' boundaries into the host country. The Free City Foundation have taken Romer's idea and sought to implement it in different parts of the world. The aim is to provide citizens with alternatives to the status quo: establishing new legal, financial and municipal relationships with residents. The ideology is to reduce the size of the modern state, which is considered to act in its own self-interest at the expense of society. There are a number of different scales of initiatives for the Free City Foundation: from intentional communities to prosperity zones, all the way to Free Private Cities. Prospera in Honduras is a working example of a Free City: a new settlement on the island of Roatán is being developed within its own civil law, regulatory agencies and taxation; although it must still adhere to the Honduran constitution, international treaties and criminal law. But this is only the start: many more examples are being developed across the world. Perhaps the most innovative idea is Seasteading, where independent communities are developed in international waters, outside of the jurisdiction of existing governments. Are these initiatives viable and preferable alternatives to the nation-state? That may be too early to tell, but there is a growing number of investors who think they are the future of civilisation.
