What do you get when you cross a behavioral psychologist with significant experience in the business world? You get the insightful mind and wisdom of Richard Reid.   Richard knows that commanding attention and influence while leading through change is more difficult than ever. He shares that the mind and thought processes of an employee today have more dynamic needs than even a decade ago. This is why he wrote Charisma Unlocked: Science and Strategy behind Presence, Persuasion and Authentic Leadership.   We thoroughly enjoyed this conversation as we think any tip and wisdom that an executive leader can gain that will make their business run smoother. Any increase in profitability while elevating employee satisfaction is a win.   Here are highlights: -Emotional Intelligence: Self-awareness, particularly in managing stress and improving communication, is critical as the foundation for a leader that others are willing to follow.   -Charisma in Modern Leadership: Richard discusses the importance of charisma in leadership, emphasizing that it's about connecting with people as individuals and making them feel heard. He explains that modern leadership involves facilitating others, unlocking their potential, and aligning organizational goals with employees' hopes and fears.   -Psychological Safety in Organizations: The importance of creating an environment where people feel safe to express themselves, offer different ideas, and speak up when struggling was emphasized. Richard notes that many well-intentioned leaders struggle with authenticity and humility, often unintentionally sending mixed messages about psychological safety.   -Constructive Conversations: Allow people to bring fresh ideas, challenge prevailing thoughts constructively, and speak up when employees and projects are struggling. He advises leaders to set intentions before conversations, slow down interactions to create space for reflection, and focus on collaboration rather than talking at each other.   -Wellbeing and Mental Health Advocacy: Richard is a lifelong promoter of wellbeing and that CEO's need to make considerations for team members' mental health in the workplace. This care will better equip individuals to navigate and achieve goals and overcome business challenges.     About the guest: Richard Reid is a highly experienced psychologist, coach, and wellbeing consultant with over 20 years of expertise. He is a former Chief People Officer at a global law firm specialising in Trauma, Resilience, and Psychological Safety. Richard has worked extensively with organisations such as the London Underground, the City of London Police, and the Witness Protection Program. He also runs an international practice providing therapy, coaching, and psychology services to entrepreneurs, high-net-worth individuals, and senior leaders.   As a charisma coach and trainer, Richard focuses on helping people achieve their full potential. Over the last few weeks we have talked about some of the facets of transnational organised crime, and today's episode will continue to explore these international risks.  According to the UK Government, the illicit drugs market is big business, worth an estimated £9.4 billion a year in the UK alone.  Globally, over 236.1 million ransomware attacks occurred globally in the first half of 2022.  The international drug trade and cybercrime are two independent but interconnected concerns that have emerged in response to the globalised aspect of the modern world. The international drug trade is the illegal trafficking of narcotics and psychoactive substances across borders, facilitated by sophisticated criminal organisations that operate on a global scale. In contrast, cybercrime refers to a wide range of unlawful crimes carried out using digital means, such as hacking, identity theft, and online fraud.  While these international risks may appear unconnected, they have some similarities, such as the employment of advanced technology, international networks, and the exploitation of vulnerabilities in global systems. Criminal organisations involved in the drug trade frequently use cyber tools to communicate, launder money, and evade law enforcement. Additionally, the dark web serves as a platform for both drug trafficking and various forms of cybercrime.  The intertwining of these illicit activities poses complex challenges for international law enforcement and requires a comprehensive and collaborative approach to address these risks. In order to help us unpack these two vast networks of transnational organised crime, and their potential intersections, we are thrilled to be joined by Dr Christopher Allen. Dr. Chris Allen is a researcher, lecturer, consultant and commentator specialising in organised crime and how it operates.  He has significant experience in lecturing on drug trafficking, cybercrime, human trafficking and firearms trafficking, among other subjects. He is currently Senior Police Practice Tutor at Buckinghamshire New University, where he has responsibility for the Evidence Based Research projects.  undertaken by officers and is leading a joint research project on the scope for a data harmonisation approach to international organised crime investigation with the Police Foundation. He is also Honorary Research Fellow at the Buckingham University Centre for Security and Intelligence Studies. Chrits is the Senior Lecturer and Consultant of the London Policing College. Chris is also the creator of the U BATTLE toolkit, an investigative strategy development tool that began under City of London Police in 2018 and since then has gained national and international recognition. U BATTLE uses the adapted versions of traditional business analysis techniques to improve the development of investigative strategies in order to dismantle organised crime groups. Furthermore, he is a member of the Society for Evidence Based Policing, the European Political Research Consortium Standing Group on Organised Crime and the International Association for the Study of Organised Crime.

Matt and Blake talk about Rick Tocchet's first year on the job, what it would take to get Sean Monahan or one of the top deadline rentals, shiny metallic helmets making their debut, the 2018 World Junior Championship players taking leave of their clubs amid a London Police investigation into sexual assault, and the emergence of Salt Lake City as an expansion, or relocation, candidate. Frank Corrado joins -- and has his interview crashed by The Stanchion! -- after the Canucks beat the Leafs Saturday. Frank played for both teams and lost a bet over it. He tells about the TSN Power Rankings and why the Oilers are ahead of the Canucks, whether Edmonton can catch Vancouver in the standings. Plus, he talks about his time with Tocchet and what makes him such a great coach, including explaining a hockey term that Toc has used in discussing what he needs from Andrei Kuzmenko. Uffe Bodin covers hockey in Sweden and has been talking about a lot of Canucks on his podcast lately. He says the best fit for Calgary centre Elias Lindholm would be the Canucks, and explains why. He gives us his take on whether Elias Pettersson will sign an extension, comments on the work of Patrik Allvin (the first Swedish GM in NHL history), tells us why he's not surprised with Nils Höglander's progress, and forecasts the Canucks future for Jonathan Lekkerimäki.
