In the first eleven days of September, eight devastating flood events unfolded on four continents. The US has already set a record for billion-dollar weather disasters in a year, with four months still to go. Meanwhile, Apple's latest product-launch event unveiled even more sophisticated innovations. But all that such high tech can do about the weather is to report the present and attempt to predict the future. Nothing we have invented can deter nature's unbridled power and ferocity, proving every day the finitude and frailty of humans and our urgent need for power and protection beyond ourselves. "We supply all of the world's commercial fleets. We keep the U.S. running." Now the team at FleetPride is using their skills to build bikes for hundreds of kids in need. "We are working in partnership with the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Tarrant County to build bicycles," Victoria said.  The kids said they wanted two wheels so they could "go wherever they want." Victoria says the team is always looking for ways to give back. Previously, the team built wheelchairs for the elderly and donated $30,000 to St. Judes Children's Hospital after donating a portion of their proceeds on North Texas Giving Day.  We're proud to call Victoria Roberts and FleetPride this week's KRLD Difference Maker "They have several kids that are very excited to receive these so I can't wait to see pictures. I think they are going to be very surprised," Victoria said.  If you know someone making a difference in the community, send us an email at differencemaker@krld.com.    Image courtesy of Victoria Roberts

ALLWays Another Way

No one gets instructions when they have a baby. Sure, you get feeding and diapering classes, but what about child development? Isn’t that essential?!? There are no perfect parents. People only know what they know. This show isn’t about judging. Children were once seen and not heard. Authoritarian parenting still exists. Research PROVES that it’s harmful. How do you break cycles? Domestic Violence is an EPIDEMIC in this country. Have you seen the ACEsTooHigh study? Arundel Hunter and I discuss some of top worst things you can do as a parent and how to change course — even if you’re doing them. There is only shame in willful ignorance. Time to turn the tide. Children learn what they live. There is Another Way to break cycles. Arundel Bell Hunter is a stay at home mother, which is one of the hardest jobs there is. She was born in Navasota, TX in 1979. Arundel went to Episcopal School of Dallas and graduated in 1997. She went to a couple of colleges and graduated with a television degree at Southern Methodist University in 2005. Arundel then moved to Los Angeles to pursue her career as a television producer of talk and reality television. After 4 years, she moved back to Dallas to work in television, public relations, social media, non- profit fundraising, was a writer and then met the love of her life. She married her amazing husband in October 2013. Then she embarked on a journey of motherhood and has never turned back. As a mother of two and a wife in Dallas, TX. She has an open, happy, on the go, and honest approach to parenting and changing the cycle of life for her children. Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day is an 18- hour online giving event designed to empower every person to give back to their community by supporting local nonprofits and causes they care about in one easy-to-use platform. The event helps build awareness and support for nonprofits like nothing else. In 2018, over $48 mill ion was raised through more than 157,000 gifts benefiting 2,700 local nonprofits, bringing the ten-year total to over $240 million for our community. North Texas Giving Day is the largest community-wide giving event in the nation.  Since its inception in 2009, this online event has transformed from an idea to help raise awareness of nonprofits, to a movement that has ignited a broad culture of community-wide giving. During North Texas Giving Day, everyone has the opportunity to be a philanthropist to build a stronger and more vibrant community.
