The eruption of the Yellowstone supervolcano is one of those mega-disasters that some preppers worry about. Mic, Brian, and Jeff discuss two movies, one with the irresistable title of Volcanic Doom. The second is Supervolcano. The latter actually being about the catastrophic eruption of the Yellowstone volcano. They use those movies as jumping off points to discuss some of the realities of a huge volcanic eruption. Links: Movie: Volcanic Doom — Free YouTube version. As a nod to winter, Mic, Jeff, and Brian, all watched the 2018 movie, Arctic, starring Mads Mikkelsen. He is the pilot of an airplane that crash-landed somewhere in the arctic. His survival skills have kept him alive for several weeks. When a rescue helicopter arrives, it too crashes due to storm gusts. Only the copilot — a young woman — survived, though gravely injured. He then tries to get her to medical care. The boys key off of this movie to discuss winter preparedness in general. Links: Movie, Arctic — (YouTube free version. Mic, Brian, and Jeff discuss the 2014 movie Aftermath: an independent production about a group of average folks who gather in a north Texas farmhouse cellar to try to survive the radioactive fallout from a nuclear war. This is another of those Everybody Dies movies. The boys comment on what the writer did well for conveying prepper knowledge, and where he missed the boat. The biggest boat he missed was assuming that fallout stayed at toxic levels for over a month. Mic, Jeff, and Brian all watched the movie Homestead over Christmas week. This is independent Angel Studios' screenplay based on the book series Black Autumn. Originally planned as a series, the first two episodes became a movie. More episodes to follow, says Angel Studios. The boys look at prepper lessons to be learned from the film and touch upon some of the thorny issues a well-equipped prepper is likely to face. While the boys can't help but do a few spoilers, the story goes on in later episodes, so there's not ending (yet) to give away. Links: Black Autumn Book Series on Amazon. Angel Studios' website. In this episode, Mic, Brian, and Jeff discuss the post-apocalyptic film of 1970, No Blade Of Grass. It is called by some as the British version of the American film Panic In Year Zero. But the story is not about living in the woods, post-SHTF, but looks only at the journey from the big city to their Bug Out Location in the country. The boys try to look past the awkward artsy-ness of the director to discuss the story's events from a prepper's perspective. A counterpoint to the dark Mad Max vision, are stories of people rebuilding after an SHTF event. Mic dips into his old-movies archives to discuss Swiss Family Robinson (1960). Mic, Jeff, and Brian then look at Kevin Costner's The Postman (1997) as a tale of SHTF survivors who grasp at hope that "America" is coming back and begin to assert control over their own lives and defy the local warlord. Mic, Brian and Jeff discuss one of the iconic tropes in prepperdom -- the world gone "Mad Max". Formed mostly on the basis of the first two Mad Max movies (and there have been sequels afterward), the chaotic, desolate, and violent world of Mad Max serves as a sort of worst-case archetype for a post-SHTF world. But, how likely is the world to Mad Max? Can one prep for that? Why aren't there roving gangs of good guys? Join us for the discussion and feel free to share your thoughts too.
Mic, Brian, and Jeff all watched what might be the first realistic SHTF-Bug-Out movie: Panic In Year Zero (1962). While it is, of course, Hollywood fiction, many of the scenes are directly applicable to today. If you needed supplies, would you steal to get them? If you were confronted by someone you meant you harm, should you 'terminate' them right then? Our three movie-watchers discuss many of the scenes that raise relevant questions for today. Will AI be the cause of human extinction? That's what some experts are warning of. Mic, Brian and Jeff discuss some of the many movies and news stories about artificial intelligence taking over. In the preppersphere, zombies are a metaphor for the masses of the unpreppared, weakened after a prolonged collapse, who slowly fan out into the countryside seeking food. Mic, Jeff, and Brian look a few landmark films and a popular TV series. Mic, Jeff and Brian discuss a few movies in which people expect to survive some SHTF event in an underground bunker. Bomb shelters (bunkers) were very popular in scary parts of the Cold War. While bunkers are best suited to surviving Nuke Doom, some people can see sheltering underground as a great way to survive a whole range of SHTF scenarios. But is it? Mic, Jeff and Brian review and discuss the newly-released movie "Civil War" by Alex Garland. The possibilities of civil unrest is an increasing concern among the preparedness-minded, so we approached our look at the movie from a prepper perspective. There is a no-spoilers synopsis in the beginning of this episode, as well as a spoiler warning and a point to which you can fast-forward to skip the spoilers, if you like. Later in the episode, we discuss questions engendered by the movie, like: what can a prepper do about civil unrest? Would the government actually fire upon disobedient citizens? How might a civil war affect citizens outside of the conflict zones? f you enjoy these 'Prepper Fiction' episodes, let Mic know by buying him a cup of virtual coffee at Buy Me A Coffee.
Sharing is caring!
Serier, filmer och böcker i all ära. Därför introducerar Emelie och Martin PlayStation-spelet The Last of Us för Anders och Patrik.
Först ut blir såklart klassikern; TV-serien The Walking Dead!

Today's show on The Written Apocalypse features D.A. Carey lives in Kentucky near Louisville. He comes from a family of Army veterans on both sides of the family and was in the Army himself. A lineage that includes distant relations to the American Indians and more recently soldiers in "The big Red One", one of Patton's Tankers and an Air Cav helicopter pilot gives a unique view to this country's history. Add to that growing up with a step family of Kentucky "do it yourself" type country people who made the discussion of history and "Foxfire" type skills a part of the dinner conversation, and you have a unique perspective and approach. In Episode 25, we’re joined by Dee Cooper, a prepper fiction author and creator of The Written Apocalypse, a Facebook group for prepper fiction readers. Hear why prepper fiction is much, much more than just entertaining - it’s key knowledge. In the After Show, available to Patreon supporters, we play “Live or Die” with Dee (hilarious), talk about good people in New England (they exist!), and feminism. Glen does his best Boston accent. Fun stuff.
John and Sticks catch up a bit before the King and Queen of Prepper Fiction join Sticks for some hijinks. Yes that's right, Glen Tate and his better half Shelby Gallagher livened up the joint
In the last episode, we covered a brief history of the post-apocalyptic genre. This time around, we're delving a little deeper into a couple of the sub-genres that developed, Men's Adventure in the 1980s and the Prepper Fiction that is very popular today. They are actually pretty closely related, as you'll see in this short episode. In the Three Minute Survival Tip, we're talking about the skills vs. stuff debate.
