This week, we share a series of “Small Talks,” e.g. short recordings (less than 15 minutes) about a single topic of interest with guests Amy Mayer, Judy Schoonover, Remi Moran, and Tiffany Zaugg!   Before the Small Talks, Rachel discusses presenting ant an online autism summit about some of the fundamentals of AAC. Meanwhile, Chris shares about recording some trainings on the “specific language system first approach” with some groups in Israel, including a presentation at the ISSAC Israel Conference where participants watched a prerecorded video, then did a live Q&A over Zoom.   Small Talks This Episode:   Amy Mayer: Question Slips - Sometimes, as a teacher, it gets overwhelming constantly being asked questions that are about trivial things, like using the bathroom or which color pen to use, and Question Strips are a strategy that can help! You put students in teams, and they are given slips that allow them to ask a question. The trick is, there are a limited number of slips, and all members of the group must sign off that this is what they want to ask. This dramatically reduces irrelevant question. Since students often want to save the slips for another time, they collaborate and solve their problems themselves!   Judy Schoonover - Favorite Purchases from the Dollar Store: Something as simple as a pool noodles can be used as a pencil grip, as adaptive seating, converted into a foot fidget, made into a whisper tube, and more!  Similarly, the Dollar Store sells thin kitchen rugs (18 x 24) are velcro sensitive, so when you fasten velcro dots to something, it will stay and not move! Tips on uses for Dollar Store cookie sheets, plastic protectors, plastic plates, and push lightsare also shared!   Remi Moran: Creating a 50 Inch Touchscreen out of a TV - Remy bought an infrared frame that goes around his TV. The frame acts as a mouse pointer, essentially converting the TV into a large touchscreen. Remy shares how he puts videoes at the top and practices using AAC with his daughter at the bottom.   Tiffany Zaugg: DebriefScape - UCF has a tool called debrief scape that allows you take video you have and tag certain moments on the video. you want to discuss. You can also tag lots of different spots on the video. This tool can be really useful for providing coaching and feedback when teaching someone about AAC using video, as recommended in programs like SMORRES.   Links from This Episode::   Pool Noodles as Assistive Technology: https://blog.therapro.com/pool-noodle-as-assistive-technology/   Dollar Store Hacks for the Classroom https://www.weareteachers.com/50-dollar-store-hacks-for-the-classroom/    Writing Wizard: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/writing-wizard-school-ed/id631446426   Word Wizard: https://apps.apple.com/us/app/word-wizard-for-kids-school-ed/id447312716   DebriefScape: https://www.cs.ucf.edu/~ceh/EDGrants/DScape/

In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we talked with Ana Cvejic from the Biotech Research & Innovation Centre at the University of Copenhagen about her work on using sc-multiomics to characterise human developmental hematopoiesis. The conversation starts by delving into Ana's research on hematopoiesis, starting with her work on identifying novel genes controlling blood traits in zebrafish models. She explains her transition to single-cell methodologies and the application of single-cell RNA sequencing to study hematopoietic cells in zebrafish, focusing on thrombocyte lineage commitment and gene expression. The discussion progresses to her groundbreaking study on human fetal hematopoiesis, where she combined single-cell RNA-seq with single-cell ATAC-seq to understand chromatin accessibility and gene expression dynamics. Ana then shares insights into the identification of new cell surface markers and the priming of hematopoietic stem cells, particularly in conditions like Down syndrome. Furthermore, she then elaborates on the construction of a phylogenetic tree of blood development using whole-genome sequencing of single-cell-derived hematopoietic colonies from healthy human fetuses. She explains the motivation behind this study, highlighting the insights gained regarding stem cell quantities, developmental timelines, and mutations in blood development. And when it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. These stones shall be to your people, to the people of Israel, a memorial forever. This is the set up, get the stones you're going to walk, you're experiencing a miracle, but get the stones so that your kids, when they ask, what do these stones mean to you?" 6:14 - "Our kids are going to ask us, we can answer them, but we can, like the Stones, the moment of giving thanks and remembrance, actually, it went beyond just the Jordan, that God expanded into. And they can remember that God did that same miracle 40 years earlier with the Red Sea. It's not just our kids, but it's all people of the world. Jeff Zaugg steps behind the microphone in this episode to share his personal fatherhood journey and how he adds adventure and intentionality to the dad life. Interviewed by Dr. Michelle Canfield Watson, Jeff shares powerful encouragement and insights for fathers in any stage of parenting.    Full SHOW NOTES for today's conversation   Key Takeaways   Tell your children you love being their dad.  Challenge yourself to step into the unknown with your whole heart.  You can gamify every stage of fathering.  Most fathers rank themselves worse than average, but you can flip the script.   Jeff Zaugg   Jeff Zaugg is the founder of dadAWESOME and FATHERS FOR THE FATHERLESS, two ministries that resource and rally dads through engaging podcasts and 100-mile bike rides. Jeff and his wife, Michelle, have been married for seventeen years and are parents to four daughters.   Key Quotes   14:00 - "I call it the intentional 40. I turned 40 about 14 months ago, and I said, Hey, if I could get more intentional moments with my wife, that would that would be good in so many levels, more intentional moments with my girls, more intentional moments with friends and more intentional moments with mentors. The drift, I want to be a dad, a man, a follower of Jesus who is dreaming and not drifting. And our dreams, often we have to take action to spark bigger dreams, and we have to stretch ourselves and be a little bit vulnerable and do something that's hard." 39:02 - "I'll give away more of me, in my heart, that I think most of us dads, the same way we give all of ourselves to the stranger and a fraction of ourselves to the little precious gifts."   Links From Today's Conversation   Full Transcript of the Conversation  Dr. Michelle Watson Canfield's Website Dr. Michelle Watson Canfield's Books DadAwesome, Episode 277 (Part 1), with Dr. Michelle Watson Canfield DadAwesome, Episode 278 (Part 2), with Dr. Michelle Watson Canfield Ephesians 3:20   Connect with dadAWESOME   Learn about our FATHERS FOR THE FATHERLESS events in 2023: https://f4f.bike/ Follow @dadawesome on Instagram Make a Donation to dadAWESOME (tax-deductible) Join the dadAWESOME Prayer Team Receive weekly encouragement by texting "dad" to 651-370-8618

Man, I missed it, I didn't put enough focus on my marriage in that season. I put too much focus on generating assets and wealth, not enough focus on being a dad. So guys, that's what I think of so that I'll never be ashamed of myself, I just know that this is a possible area for shame to come into our hearts." Kiva Zaugg: [00:10:12] " [God's love] is like when a waterfall comes down, you feel like a mist coming from when you're even when you're not under the waterfall, you still can get wet." Jeff Zaugg: [00:11:09] "So if we can step under the love of God, if the dads can do that, experience the love of God, experience healing and forgiveness and experience all God's heart for them. Then those dads, the mist, as you called it, the mist can get off of them and their kids can feel it." Jeff Zaugg: [00:16:26] "I'm confident that dadAWESOME does not exist without you. I'm confident that just about every part of my leadership is made better, stronger, more effective, more fruitful because of you." Michelle Zaugg: [00:19:39] "I think we're a good team because I tend to want to work on it, get feedback on things that I'm doing, or just things as a family, be more hesitant to just go do something. And so I think that's why we are a good team because you love to just go do it. And I have a little bit more of a wanting to critique it and make it better." Jeff Zaugg: [00:21:53] "I would take a prayer day and listen for God's voice. And what happened is because of that change and the extended timeline of doing kids ministry, leading as a kids pastor, I believe I saw from that perspective all these dads that we were offering nothing, as a church, we weren't offering anything for tools, or resources." Jeff Zaugg: [00:25:23] "One thing I admire about you, Michelle, and how you hear from God's voice is you can see things many times before I do and you actually saw like this passion within me to help in this area of intentional fatherhood, help dads experience the love of their Heavenly Father and bring that love with their full hearts to their kids." Jeff Zaugg: [00:27:13] "I believe that all of us dads can pay more attention to man, where is God stoking up more fire, more or less like or passion. And that is often the primary way I hear God's voice." Michelle Zaugg: [00:31:12] "So even when it was super hard, even that first day that we left was like crazy hard. Like when we've had hard things, it's been like, Well, we know that God made a way for us to do that. And so it's given confidence, even getting through some of the challenges."   Conversation Links   Once a Month Pray Day   Links from dadAWESOME   https://dadawesome.org/life/ Make a Donation to dadAWESOME Join the dadAWESOME Prayer Team Receive weekly encouragement by texting "dad" to 651-370-8618

He has dedicated his life to helping men walk about their God-given calling as fathers. “My identity as a son of God, and my relationship with God is like a waterfall. The identity I believe flows from my life and into the next generation, my girls.” - Jeff Hear from Don and Jeff on how they have learned to step into their God-given identity and follow His ways over theirs. This episode is for dads who long to know God and love their families. Listen as Jeff shares creative and spirit-filled ways he has learned to follow God and raise his kids. "I can make mistakes but it doesn't have to affect my sonship. The way I see myself will determine how I treat myself and others, especially my kids." - Jeff LIFE stands for: Love Intentionality Free (Hebrews 12:1-2) Enjoy Dads, your kids know if you love being a dad or not. How do you think your kids see you? Our Heavenly Father loves you and loves walking with you. When we spend time with Him, it overflows into our family, especially our kids. When you receive love from God, you will be more intentional, freer, and you will enjoy your family more. Every family can be CRAZY COOL. Every family can have LIFE. Encouragement from Jeff: Go after it! God has made your family unique and there is a spark inside you. Every kid (including you) has a place in God's Kingdom and a place where your heart can align with God's heart. Jeff Zaugg is the founder and host of the Dad Awesome podcast. Jeff started the podcast three and a half years ago after seeing friends go through great pains with their family and kids from broken marriages. Jeff is married to his wife, Michelle, for over 15 years and they have 4 daughters ranging in age from 8 years old to 3 months old.It was through seeing this pain that sparked a passion to help those hurt by a fatherless issue. He shares that pain is part of our story, but isn't something that we should pass on to our children. As a result, he wanted to help find ways that we as men can stay intentional in this area of fatherhood.  As a dad, we need to be fully present and taking the time to compound interest in the dad life, much like investing with stocks.Jeff shares the framework of unpacking the meaning of the tagline -"Adding life to the dad life".L- Loved (I am Loved - our identity as sons of God)I- Intentional ( Taking the effort to spend time and interact with our children)F- Freedom ( Not passing on the hurts and pains) Hebrews 12:1-2E- Enjoyment of Life ( Feeling follows focus to pass on life, love, callings, identity, affirmation and destiny instead of hurts and pains.)The Father for the Fatherless is a bike rally that started as a small group to challenge men to do something difficult and allow God to speak to them through it. The secret mission of F4F is to awaken a generation of dads to the fact that we are living as if we are the fatherless and that many are living as if fatherless. The goal it to help encourage  men to make that deposit into others and encourage change in a positive trajectory, while raising money to help local and global organizations such as the Venture Orphanage in SE Asia.Resources:https://dadawesome.org/https://dadawesome.org/groups/https://f4f.bike/The Small Church Media PodcastThere are many podcasts for church media, but this one is for the small churches!Listen on: Apple Podcasts Spotify
