We have two guests coming on the show tonight to talk about trends in American Education that just may be signaling a lasting and revolutionary shift in culture: Cheryl Daley (CherylDaley.com) & Barbie Rivera (BarbieRivera.com). This will flow into similar shake-ups in standards for the Military set forth by Secretary Hegseth this week, as well as a little time to reminisce about the golden days of AOL, as today is the day that Dial-up connection to the former Internet giant is laid to rest. Public schools are one of the last remaining universal public goods in the United States—and are also some of our most unequal institutions. In Unsettling Choice, Ujju Aggarwal explores how the expansion of choice-based programs led to greater inequality and segregation in a gentrifying New York City neighborhood during the years following the Great Recession, mobilizing mechanisms rooted in market logics to recruit families with economic capital on their side while solidifying a public sphere that increasingly resembled the private. Here, Aggarwal is joined in conversation with Sabina Vaught.Ujju Aggarwal is assistant professor of anthropology and experiential learning at The New School. She is author of Unsettling Choice: Race, Rights, and the Partitioning of Public Education and coeditor of What's Race Got to Do with It? How Current School Reform Policy Maintains Racial and Economic Inequality.Sabina Vaught is professor at the University of Pittsburgh and director of the Kinloch Commons for Critical Pedagogy and Leadership. Vaught is coauthor of The School-Prison Trust and author of Compulsory: Education and the Dispossession of Youth in a Prison School.  Episode references:Ruth Wilson GilmoreChristina HeathertonCindy KatzSelma JamesJoão Costa VargasMorgan Talty / Fire ExitPraise for the book:“A must-read to understand the racialized violence inherent within one of the most fundamental aspects of education in the United States: the logic of choice.”—Damien Sojoyner“Read this book, and be moved and transformed.”—Sabina VaughtUnsettling Choice: Race, Rights, and the Partitioning of Public Education by Ujju Aggarwal is available from University of Minnesota Press.

Ever wondered what happens when five boys gets ac epted into an all-girls school? Brace yourself for a wild and hilarious ride as we, J.B. and Kokugatsu, dissect the first season of the anime "Prison School." We lovingly label it "delicious garbage" for its outrageous, perverse storyline. From the strict confines of Hachimitsu Academy to the underground student council's brutal regime, we navigate the absurd trials and tribulations the boys face, dissecting the intense dynamics between characters. While we revel in the anime's chaos, we also caution you against diving into its manga since its convoluted continuation might leave you dissatisfied. What's more shocking than a girl exposing a boy's deepest perversions? Join us as we analyze key scenes like the unforgettable moment when Hana reveals Kiyoshi's true nature and how it impacts her. We applaud Akira Hiramoto's masterful art style, which brings an almost surreal intensity to even the most absurd of facial expressions. Our discussion highlights fan-favorite characters like Gakuto and the chairman, whose antics and dramatic lines add another layer of depth. We also explore broader themes from the show, challenging our own perspectives on fetishes and the complexities of character development within such a bizarre setting.Ever compared anime fetishes to real-life relationships? We share personal stories, humorous anecdotes, and even touch on the peculiarities of sadomasochism in and out of the anime world. We find ourselves captivated by Meiko's intense presence and Andre's strange dedication, drawing interesting parallels to other IPs like "Sengoku Basara" and "Dynasty Warriors." Wrapping up, we critique various anime, including the controversial "Redo of Healer" and the unique "The Eminence in Shadow," while reflecting on how our own lives echo the struggles of some anime characters. This episode promises a candid, entertaining, and comprehensive exploration of "Prison School" and beyond!Text us for feedback and recommendations for future episodes!Support the Show.We thank everyone for listening to our podcast! We know how much you all loved our Monster Musume episode so we decided to bring back the ecchi! Or it it just a lot of gratuitous nudity and crotch shots? Maybe both? Probably not.SPOILER ALERT!!!Save this episode for later if you want to experience this show without a high-energy, often heated, very thorough discourse on it's high and low points. Also on the plate today is the new opening of JoJo's along with the last two episodes (JoJo's is probaby going to be a continuing section on the podcast we've decided). We also talk about some manga, such as Prison School, Yamada and the Seven Witches, and Boku no Hero Academia. So here's to the ending of a great season, the ending of Naruto, and the ending of an amazing ride with our great friend Ben. P.S. He will be back for Rahxephon (whenever that is). Some of the anime you will hear about in this episode are: 91 Days, Re:Zero, Food Wars, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Mob Psycho 100, One Punch Man, Naruto and Naruto Shippuden, Bleach, Prison School, Yamada and the Seven Witches, and many many more! The sogn at the end is "Thank You Type-2" by Rukunetsu, which a remix of the second ending of Bleach. "Thank You!!" has been an anchor in my life whenever I have friends leave and go their own way. I recommend checking out the original song if you haven't heard it, and make sure to check out the lyrics (they are beautiful). A big shoutout to Rukunetsu on this one: he has been with us from the beginning letting us use his songs. Make sure to subscribe to him here: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNa_ZUAQlZWUjKUvWugpVCw And here is his remix of the song (I edited it just slightly): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0C_TR03l-6g Also, for nostalgia sake for you Bleach fans here is the full version of the ending, by "Home Made Kazoku." These guys also did the first ending of Naruto Shippuden, "Shooting Star." Kinda appropriate, considering that Naruto is ending. What a weird week for us! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BvYuf4r-8xk Like the songs we use at the end of each podcast? Hello everyone! After a slight delay in schedule, the boys pick it back up and are back with a new episode. This week we decided to go more conversational—so hopefully you enjoy the change up. For once, Kye didn't watch Gundam this week. After weeks of giving Ben crap about not watching Gundam. Irony. Also, Ben has halted his reading of Berserk, and Hendo has been blowing through "Naruto Kai" which is a project that cuts out all the filler and unneeded flashbacks of the show. Our podcast is moving in a new direction, so we hope you will stick along for the ride with "the scrubbiest podcast on the internet!" Some of the anime you will hear in this podcast may include: Naruto (all forms), Bleach, Nisekoi, Prison School, Sword Art Online, Toradora, Shouwa Genroku Rakugo Shinjuu, Dagashi Kashi, norn9: Norn+Nonet, Myraid Colors Phantom World, Prince of Stride Alternative, Sekkou Boys, Mobile Suits Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, the "Monogatari" series, and many more! It's the End of the Year! Anime Scrubs dive back into all their favorites of 2015 this episode, but not before they finish up their review of Fall 2015! It's been a great season, and we have enjoyed it. Noragami Aragoto, Concrete Revolutio and Ushio and Tora (a show we've been following since the beginning of Anime Scrubs) all finish this week, and they were all really great. There may be no funny section for Comet Wars this week (and it will be missed) but we hope you enjoy the podcast. Some of the anime we talk about this week are: Noragami Aragoto, Concrete Revolutio, Ushio and Tora, Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, Gundam Thunderbolt, Working!!!, My Teen RomCom SNAFU, Punch Line, Garo: The Animation, JoJo's Bizarre Adventures, Your Lie in April, Yamada and the Seven Witches, Prison School, Food Wars, and many more! Anime Scrubs is back for another podcast! This week we rip into Comet Lucifer and Asterisk war bad-- and we have now created the segment of the podcast called "Comet War," where we simply rip those two anime. This week, surprisingly Ben has actually almost caught up with the Monogatari series (too bad he can't catch up with Kuroko...). Kye has started reading JoJo's part 4, and has caught up with the Prison School manga and has finished an anime called "Shiki." Hendo has straight up had it with alcohol-- will he ever drink on the podcast again? The Anime Scrubs talk about a lot of things airing this week and a bit about other stuff we are into. We also start discussions for our Top 10 Anime of 2015, which we will each write in January. Tune in for a wild ride! iTunes listeners: we are on SoundCloud! Vice versa for you SoundCloud listeners. We are also on Android so you can check us out on the go. We also have a YouTube, where we have posted our best of Summer 2015 podcast.
