This ancestral series has all been the work of the ancestors. Starting with Honouring our ancestors, followed by Ancestral Messengers and last week Ancestral Influencers. Its popularity shows us that we must delve deeper in celebrating our ancestors. So, this week's episode is Ancestral Heartbeat in which we will be focusing on an integral, unshakeable and subconscious vibration that speaks to each and every one of us; the drum. The importance of drumming for our ancestors and ourselves should forever be central to our being, as it is part of our DNA and our guiding light for us to always find our way home. There is a vast array of drums throughout the continent so we are only going to focus on 5 in this episode. I offer a short introduction on each of the 5 drums followed by the works of master drummers, accompanied by wise words and high vibrations. As with all of the works featured within this episode, they are all credited in the description of this episode and used only for the education of people of the diaspora. So please continue gaining further wisdom of these works and the people featured, after listening. We had so much great feedback from last weeks special episode ' Honoring Our Ancestors' that we decided to follow up with a another special episode ' Ancestral Messengers'.The vibrations of brothers and sister who are no longer in this realm are shared though storytelling aswell as their own vocals alongside the high vibrations of Reggae works. Each featured holds the common thread of a messenger being a pivotal part of their story, themselves being a messenger and/or their lifes works being the message itself. In this episode I'm joined by the dynamic duo of the Stush an' Bush podcast, Khadieme and Robert, as we explore the complicated relationship between Dancehall and the LGBTQ+ Community. This isn't an episode attacking the genre or they lyrics, it rather and exploration and thought starter on how the music, specifically the reference to #2 being associated with gay male activities has helped maintain social and religious ideologies around being a gay man. We use the lyrics to explore ideas of queerness in Dancehall, our complex experience in hearing homophobic lyrics and liking the music anyway, male queerness and female misogyny and shifts around the work being done culturally.Check out Stush an' Bush Podcast | Instagram Hosts Instagram: Robert | KhadiemeStay connected to Style & VibesKeep up here: Website | NewsletterLet's talk here: Twitter | Instagram | FacebookExecutive Produced by Kerry-Ann Reid-Brown of Breadfruit MediaSupport the show (https://glow.fm/thestylevibesandpodcast/)
