On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Elden Ring is now the best selling game of the last year crushing sales numbers of Call of Duty: Vanguard and Resident Evil Village. Epic Games is releasing an "open to everybody" Unreal Engine 5 editor for Fortnite, and will let creators monetize what they make. Nintendo will be careful when releasing a successor to the Switch. President Shuntaro Furukawa has made it clear that the company aims not to repeat the same mistakes as it did when moving from Wii to Wii U, and DS to 3DS.
In episode 347, Brett gets his pre-order of the Steam Deck. We review the full handheld system that lets you play your entire Steam library in the palm of your hand. Does it match up to the Switch? We also review the Switch Sports game that has a lot of awesome games with great potential but a few things that drag it down. Austin finally gets into Elden Ring and is having a great time but missing some friends. In the news, Square Enix sells of Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal. We also discuss the poor sales of Call of Duty and the announcement of a prequel for Mafia coming. In the discussion, we talk more about PS Plus adding a Premium tier that allows game trials. On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Call of Duty publisher, Activision Blizzard, is blaming the poor results of its most recent game on historic events of World War II lamenting that the latest game Call of Duty Vanguard World War II setting lacks "innovation". Recent earnings have shown the sales of last year's release, Call of Duty: Vanguard, missed the shareholder's mark by about $300 million dollars - and this lackluster reception is why the game's setting in World War II is blamed. Call of Duty: Vanguard was still the number one best-selling game of 2021 though sales were down 36% from 2020's Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. Warcraft Arclight Rumble was revealed by Activision Blizzard for iOS and Android. Warcraft Arclight Rumble invites players to build up an army of their favorite heroes and villains from the World of Warcraft universe and duke it out in a series of tactical-based battles. The game takes place in Azeroth where Warcraft Arclight Rumble players will collect miniatures of famous World of Warcraft characters and build forces to overcome frantic challenges. While Halo Infinite Season 2 Lone Wolves adds new maps, modes, a Battle Pass, and more, perhaps the least expected addition is the inclusion of Clippy, the 25-year-old Microsoft Office assistant. Clippy is seen as a new keyring or nameplate that players can attach to their guns which can be unlocked later in Halo Infinite Season 2 Lone Wolves. It's unclear how and when the Clippy cosmetics can be unlocked in Halo Infinite Season 2 Lone Wolves but they're definitely not part of the new Halo Infinite Season 2 Lone Wolves Battle Pass that itself comes with 100 tiers of basic and premium rewards.

On today's IGN The Fix: Games, Call of Duty Warzone devs want multiple main maps available at the same time but the biggest issue with adding more maps to Call of Duty Warzone is literally the game itself. Call of Duty Warzone was built within Call of Duty Modern Warfare using the assets intended for 6v6 matches. The most recent Call of Duty Vanguard and Call of Duty Warzone update saw Warzons's largest update since Call of Duty Warzone's launch. An Elden Ring dataminer has found 128 unused icons with detailed artwork hidden in the game files. The files show Elden Ring Bosses and enemies found in The Land Between. One icon shows an Elden Ring Boss blurred out and another filled in. Epic Games is the single biggest corporate donor towards humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Microsoft and Xbox joined Epic Games Store to share all Fortnite proceeds with organizations aiding Ukraine in the Russo-Ukraine war. All proceeds from Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 from March till April 3rd will support humanitarian efforts in Ukraine. Narz has all that in your Daily Fix!

I'm taking an improv class in Los Angeles when the instructor turns to me and says, “Kymberlee, the last three characters you've done are all the same. You need to switch it up.” What? There's no way they're the same! (I don't say this to my instructor out loud, of course.) She notices that my character choices of a fancy lady, a CEO, and an airplane pilot are all high-status characters with the same point of view, and I use the same voice for all three. “So what do I do?” I ask. She tells me all I need to do is to simply change one thing. Making a choice to change one thing - doing a different voice, posture, or walk - will change everything about the characters I'm creating. At that moment, I choose to change the way I talk. I put on a Southern cowboy accent instead (and then laugh at myself because of how horrible it is). And it works! That one difference not only changed everything about my character, it has made me a better stage performer ever since. Plus this mantra works in business too: Change one thing, you change everything. My special guest today, Jenn Wong, knows how to change characters up and it's no wonder why! She's the ultimate multi-hyphenate: an actress, voice-over artist, “urban ninja”, writer, and much more. Are you curious to know: How do you use your voice to tell the story of different and distinct characters? What kind of uniqueness can you find in working on various projects? How do you put humanity into characters, no matter how crazy their circumstances, and avoid separating yourself from the story? How can you ensure that people find your characters interesting? In this episode, Jenn and I chat about all that and tell stories of wine snobbery and nerd-dom in college, recognition through Call of Duty and Raya and the Last Dragon characters, and more. We're getting into some good stuff today! What you will learn in this episode: How to turn characters on paper into three-dimensional characters Why representation in stories and characters matter What to avoid so that your characters appeal to more people Who is Jenn? Jenn Wong refuses to pigeonhole herself into any singular type of person. She writes, acts, and voices characters. She's a first-generation American and Southern California girl who loves pickles, french fries, and industrial design. Her friends consider her an urban ninja who knows where to find everything--from unique gifts to the occasional pop-up restaurant, speakeasy, or cabaret--which led her to create her blog, Way of the Wong. As a performer, Jenn's best known for voicing several notable characters in Disney XD's Yo-Kai Watch and Yo-Kai Watch: The Movie like Spoilerina, Toiletta, Mermaidyn, and the evil Gin. She's also voiced video game characters such as The Great Fairy Mija in Hyrule: Warriors: Age of Calamity and Operator Isabella Rosario Dulnuan Reyes in Call of Duty: Vanguard. Jenn's writing has appeared in travel, technology, and cocktail culture publications. She previously served as the Creative & Technical Director of Move LifeStyle, a lifestyle destination e-magazine for the modern working woman. Currently, she lives in Los Angeles with her partner Jason and their two dogs, Ninja and Junebug. Our favorite things to do in the game, what we love and don't love, and how important the successful launch is to Xbox. Also, was Forza Horizon 5 snubbed by not being nominated for Game of the Year at The Game Awards? 23:59 - Call of Duty Vanguard vs Battlefield 2042. Both games launched recently, and we have our preferences about which we like most and why. We discuss the gameplay, scope, modes, and maps included in both huge shooter titles. 37:40 - Halo Infinite's multiplayer got a surprise release on Monday of this week. We discuss our experiences with the game so far: what works, what doesn't, why none of us loves the battlepass, and what effect the surprise launch of Infinite will have on Battlefield 2042's success. 51:42 - Thanksgiving is right around the corner in the states, and we get in the spirit by discussing the games we're most thankful for in our lives. It seems like this week was all about game releases, and exactly NONE of them went well. Battlefield 2042, Grand Theft Auto Trilogy, and Call of Duty Vanguard all had various degrees of mess. We talk about them.
An "unreliable narrator" can mean that a character is withholding information or deceiving you, or it can, in a very literal sense, mean a narrator who just doesn't have their shit together. Leif Johnson joins us for a look at the latter this week, as we delve into five games that shift and bend to the whims of their narrators' disembodied voices, after which we'll get into Call of Duty: Vanguard, Forza Horizon 5, the promise of double-digit game reveals in this year's Game Awards, and the IP you think deserves its own Smash game.
