Chris Banton of EMA Design Automation joins Matt Leary, Geoffrey Hazelett and Mike Buetow to talk about how the EDA vendor's helps printed circuit board designers optimize their designs. Recorded live on the show floor at PCB East 2025.
From emerging as an exciting white-ball prospect to breaking records in four-day cricket, Tom Banton has already experienced a lot in his burgeoning career. The Somerset and England batter joins Jack Brooks and Katherine Sciver-Brunt to discuss his red-ball resurgence – including an emotional response to his record-breaking innings – as well as his excitement at playing for England in front of a home crowd and what his favourite baked good is. Brought to you by the PCA and The Cricketer. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Jon Norman is joined by two-time County Championship winner Steve Harmison and thecricketer.com's George Dobell and Nick Friend to look back at the opening round of the 2025 County Championship. They discuss Tom Banton's career-best 371, but Somerset were held to a draw at home to Worcestershire. They reflect on a five-wicket haul for Josh Tongue in Nottinghamshire's win over Durham, and after dismissing Jonny Bairstow twice on his County Championship debut, they debate if Hampshire bowler Sonny Baker is a dark horse to feature in England's squad for the Ashes later this year. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Mark Butcher, Ben Gardner, Nathan Johns and Katya Witney discuss Harry Brook's appointment as England's new white-ball captain and the opening round of County Championship fixtures. Later in the show there's chat about the scheduling of county cricket and the WCA report, as well as an interview with Rod Lyall about his new book on the governance of cricket. 0:00 Remitly / 0:45 Intro / 1:33 Mark Butcher / 16:06 Harry Brook / 18:46 County Championship / 37:21 County schedule / 45:50 WCA report / 1:00:42 WCA report part two / 1:21:51 IPL / 1:23:26 Outro
Neil Manthorp is joined by the former England fast bowler Steve Harmison to discuss the news that Harry Brook has been appointed England's white-ball captain, taking over from Jos Buttler. They discuss how the ECB manages his workload, and whether it was the right appointment. They also look back at the opening round of the County Championship, as Tom Banton begins the season with a triple century, and they hear exclusively from the England Lions and Hampshire bowler Sonny Baker. As well as this, they look back at the week's other big stories, as Charlotte Edwards is appointed the new England Head Coach, Olly Stone suffers another injury set back, and they bring you The Final Word. Caree A. Banton's book More Auspicious Shores: Barbadian Migration to Liberia, Blackness, and the Making of an African Republic (Cambridge UP, 2019) chronicles the migration of Afro-Barbadians to Liberia. In 1865, 346 Afro-Barbadians fled a failed post-emancipation Caribbean for the independent black republic of Liberia. They saw Liberia as a means of achieving their post-emancipation goals and promoting a pan-Africanist agenda while simultaneously fulfilling their 'civilizing' and 'Christianizing' duties. Through a close examination of the Afro-Barbadians, Banton provides a transatlantic approach to understanding the political and sociocultural consequences of their migration and settlement in Africa. Banton reveals how, as former British subjects, Afro-Barbadians navigated an inherent tension between ideas of pan-Africanism and colonial superiority. Upon their arrival in Liberia, an English imperial identity distinguished the Barbadians from African Americans and secured them privileges in the Republic's hierarchy above the other group. By fracturing assumptions of a homogeneous black identity, Banton ultimately demonstrates how Afro-Barbadian settlement in Liberia influenced ideas of blackness in the Atlantic World. By fracturing assumptions of a homogeneous black identity, Banton ultimately demonstrates how Afro-Barbadian settlement in Liberia influenced ideas of blackness in the Atlantic World. The Portland Trail Blazers played without any of their normal backcourt rotation and it looked like it. But they hung tough with the New Orleans Pelicans and somehow were in a game where they only scored 86 points. Plus, Dalano Banton made his Blazers debut, and he was ... intriguing. The NBA Trade Deadline has come and gone and the Celtics upgraded around the edges. We talked about trading Lamar Stevens for Xavier Tillman yesterday and today we sent out Dalano Banton and brought in Jaden Springer. The Dalano Banton and Jaden Springer trades were actually separate deals so from what I am seeing he was taken into the Grant TPE. With the core that we currently have, it was to be expected that the Celtics would try to improve marginally. I don't think Springer and Tillman will be massive pieces to the rotation come playoff time but they can certainly help out more that Stevens and Banton in the meantime. Similar to Stevens, Springer isn't a particularly gifted offensive player but he is a great defensive presence. Tillman fits that mold as well and both of them are young and don't make a lot of money which is great considering how expensive our top 6 is! --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/guy-deplacido/support

The Celtics beat the Hawks 113-103 and improve to 13-4 on the season. This was a game with no Holiday or Porzingis but the Celtics handled this game beautifully. The defense was the star of the show in this one. We saw the Celtics get back to that smothering defense we saw early this season and it forced Trae Young to turn the ball over 5 times and we saw the Celtics score 26pts on the Hawks 16 turnovers. As good as the defense was we saw some excellent ball movement throughout and some very good individual performances. Tatum led the way on the offensive end having an incredible 4th quarter that kept the Celtics in the lead after all of the pushes from Atlanta. Horford and Queta played exceptionally well defensively and rebounded the ball very well. Derrick White led the team in assists with 11. The part that confuses me about this game was the start for Banton but even he played solid for the majority of this game. There isn't much to complain about in this game besides another subpar shooting night. The defense and ball movement looked great and offset the shooting. The impressive part of this win was that every time the Hawks made a run and got this lead into single digits, the Celtics responded and we need to see that continue! The Celtics were short handed in this one with no JB or Porzingis but that didn't stop them from coming out with a huge 117-107 win over the 76ers! They found themselves with a 15pt lead at the end of the first quarter and we saw a lot of unlikely contributors. Banton and Svi both got first quarter minutes and made the best of them but Holiday was the one that led the charge with 10pts. The Celtics built that lead with Embiid playing all 12 minutes and then watched the large majority of that lead disappear in the 2nd quarter while he was on the bench. The Celtics went from being up 15pts after 1 to down 1 at half. That is when the Celtics amped up the intensity on both sides of the ball and outscored the 76ers 26-17 in the 3rd and took a hold on this game. Al Horford dialed the clock back in this one and was unbelievable tonight scoring 14pts on 4-8 from 3 while adding 5blks in this one while holding Embiid to just 20pts! This was as good as it gets for Horford. While he was incredible in this one, we saw excellent contributions from a lot of guys but Derrick White was the next best guy adding 14pts in that 4th quarter. He was so good on both sides of the ball tonight and his running mate Jrue Holiday was right there with him. Holiday got it started for the Celtics but had 2 massive defensive plays down the stretch. Tatum certainly had moments where he looked like he didn't want to be there but he had a couple of huge shots down the stretch as well that helped seal the W. Very good win for a short handed Celtics team as they move to 9-2 on the season and move into sole possession of first place in the Eastern Conference. Locked On Celtics - Daily Podcast On The Boston Celtics With Rainin' J's
The Celtics sat their top 6 guys and the Knicks started out playing their actual starters, but the reserves held their own. Payton Pritchard was his usual really good self (minus the minutes he had to guard Jalen Brunson), Svi Mykhailiuk showed some nice stuff (including some ridiculous dunks ... who knew he had that in his bag?), but John Karalis of Boston Sports Journal thinks Dalano Banton was the standout player who might have pushed himself up the rotation in this game. Preseason Game #2 is in the books and while they didn't pull out the victory, my statement about preseason games still stands. Scores don't matter. We saw some good performances and we saw some bad performances. Without reading too much into it and dubbing guys stars or not, this is strictly about today's game vs the Knicks. Pritchard, Banton and Svi shined. Hauser and Kornet looked bad. Everyone else was kind of right in the middle. Since everyone seems to be obsessed with Queta and Gabriel, I will say neither of those guys impressed me in the slightest but they looked marginally better than Kornet did. Queta is a big physical guy but might actually be too physical as he was fouling every second he was on the court. Gabriel also looked like he was playing at 1.5x speed and was completely out of control. Pritchard had a tough start to the game but really pulled it together ending the night with another 20+ pt performance. Banton played really well and as a 6'7" PG adds a lot of versatility to the lineup. He certainly got to the rack a bunch in this one. While they were both great, it seemed like Svi Mykhailiuk surprised me the most. He ended the night with 15pts on 3-7 from 3 but it was the energy that was contagious with him. He caught a transition alley oop from Davison and then had a beautiful putback on a Lamar Stevens miss. He was running everyone and was effective all night. We didn't see any of our top 6 guys but this was certainly a fun tryout for guys 7-15 on the roster and I'm excited to see how this unfolds in the next two preseason games. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/guy-deplacido/support
