This week, the Regular Joe's take a look at two Disney+ series about men in red and black. Or one guy who wears red and black, and another who is red and black. Maul Shadow Lord, we're not supposed to call him Darth Maul anymore, gives further dimension to a Star Wars character most thought was out of the picture 27 years ago. Who knew getting bisected isn't necessarily fatal. Shadow Lord is an animated series that is clearly not for kids, but it's also clearly awesome. Daredevil Born Again's sophomore season more than corrected the numerous shortcomings of the first. It's been extremely well received by critics and fans alike, giving viewers a whole lot more of what they were looking for - unless like Barry and Dave you're looking for something a little different. This week, the Regular Joes along with our good friend and semi-regular co-host Brian Mix travel to Bridgeport Connecticut to visit Poster Conservation. Owner Lee Milazzo and his team of artisans conserve, restore and repair posters of all sizes and types so they look as good as they day they were printed, and will last the test of time! They can even work their magic on some posters that most people would think were beyond repair. Lee gives us a full tour of the shop and a demo of each process they use to conserve and restore these posters…including some processes that seem counter intuitive or even destructive to "old paper"; but they have mastered their techniques over the past 33 years to being these pieces of art back to life. Towards the end of the episode, Lee reveals a poster that Brian had restored by the team, and we get to see his reaction to their amazing work in real time. In the realm of film props there are collectors, and then there was the late Bob Burns. Over the course of his lifetime, through friends, coworkers, and industry connections, Bob assembled an unparalleled cache of screen used sci-fi and horror film items. Perhaps the only thing more inspiring than the treasure trove he amassed was the kindness and generosity he and his wife Kathy showed towards folks with common interests. Dismissed by many as part of NU Trek "(aka not my Star Trek) Academy presents a starting point for new viewers as well as new cadets. Is it perfect? No, it is not. But there's enough good there to be hopeful for the future. And isn't that what Star Trek is supposed to be about? Firefly, another canceled before it peaked sci-fi series, hopes to return in animated form. Just when you thought another trip to Westeros would be more of the same HBO serves up a Knight of Seven Kingdoms. Much more about impalement, then backstabbing, Knight gives us a character piece that does not require a chart or spreadsheet to follow. While the first two shows are unexpected surprises Monarch: Legacy of the Monsters back for a second season on Apple is not. With one episode to date it's everything we loved … plus Kong. Predator Badlands is the eighth, or ninth film if you count the animated feature, in the long running franchise. This week the Regular Joes go all in on Tron. Maybe you, like the most of rest of the movie going public did not see Tron: Aries last weekend, but Barry, Dave and Tod did. And, lest you doubt their commitment, they all re-watched Tron (1982) and Tron Legacy (2010). At this point, they pretty much bleed neon. The results are three different perspectives on the three films, and a sometimes surprising rundown of who liked what. Let's face it, this really is a first world problem. I bought too much stuff and now I'm not sure what to do with it. This week the Regular Joe's address, the third phase of collecting. First comes coveting, then comes acquisition, then, like the peripheral dog that caught the car, you have the thing and now you have to find a place to put it. This all seemed simpler decades ago, when there was seemingly less stuff. In reality, there are far more display options available now than ever before. Some very reasonably priced, If you have the space  . . . it all comes down to space. If you're a collector, an accumulator, or a hoarder you have dealt with similar realities. OK, maybe not so much if you're a hoarder, but that would be a different episode. Anyways, there's some good advice to be had, or at least a bit of commiseration with kindred souls. You can live in a fascist utopia where everything seems ideal, as long as you don't look too closely at the uncomfortable details. Or, you can live in a techno-oligarchy, where a handful of mega corporations make all of the decisions for you with little regard beyond their bottom line. Fortunately, you don't have to choose, because Peacemaker on HBO Max (I think that's what it is called this week) and Alien Earth on FX/Hulu let you stick a toe in each universe. This week, the Regular Joes wrap up the first season of Noah Hawley's Alien Earth, and discuss the episode six reveal that drives home how little we understood what is actually happening in James Gunn's Peacemaker season two. In the old Hollywood tradition Robert Redford may well be “the last movie star.” His film career spanned six decades, and included numerous iconic roles. This week the full slate of Regular Joes list their favorite Redford films, ranging from the epic to the obscure. And whether you favor the Sundance kid, Jeremiah Johnson, Jay Gatsby, Bob Woodward, or Roy Hobbs, Redford brought an endearing charisma and charm to every role in every era. His subsequent work as an Oscar winning filmmaker, activist, and proponent for independent films leave a legacy few can ever match. We will not see his kind again. There are many who argue that the Alien film series lost its mojo way back on LV-476. The horror / thriller /sci-fi franchise created by Ridley Scott, and given a pulse rifle shot-in-the-arm by James Cameron, seemed like it would never regain its former glory or so we thought until last year's Alien Romulus made us rethink that equation. Now, Noah Hawley (Legion, Fargo) brings the saga back home. This week, the Regular Joe's take a first look at Alien Earth, a very different approach to the Alien(s) universe. 582: Strange New Episodes This week, the Regular Joes take a 1st look at 2 episodes from the 3rd season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. While very different in tone the two episodes are both deeply rooted and original series Trek lore. This prompts some next level nerding as the three take a deep dive down the Jeffries tube. The most recent Heritage Hollywood entertainment auction just wrapped up. Barry and Dave give their thoughts on some of the items they were able to see in person at the recent auction preview. The bottom line is, prices aren't going down. Particularly if you're interested in an old sled, someone once threw away, or 60's era knickknack that doubles as housing for a genie. Superman, Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster's comic book creation, has seen numerous incarnations over the last eight decades. The last son of Krypton has been heard on radio, and seen in animation, serials, films, and several TV series. While each is a product of its time, some are clearly hits while others are misses. At long last James Gunn, best known for Guardians of the Galaxy, has his turn at bat. And, in the view of critics, movie goers, and all three Regular Joes, he has hit it out of the ballpark. The Film both reclaims Superman‘s position as the cornerstone of the DC universe and heralds an exciting new era under Gunn's stewardship. Note: there will be SPOILERS. And Robert Zemeckis' Back to the Future (1985) the film that earned Marty McFly, Doc Brown and the DeLorean (the cyber truck of its era) permanent positions, in pop culture. What made them stand out back in the day?  What about the parade of sequels that followed each of these films? For some reason, known only to network and streaming service executives, late spring often seems like a wasteland in the TV landscape, leaving even Tod struggling to find something to watch. In this episode the Regular Joe's catch up on what they've been viewing in recent weeks. This week the regular Regular Joe's, along with Brian “I know a guy“ Mix, travel to Louisville, Kentucky for Wonderfest, the long, running convention for modelers, both amateur and professional. The 35th annual show hosted an amazing range of entries from the basic to the extreme, including more renderings of the Creature from the Black Lagoon than you could count. There was also a broad selection of dealers, assuring that even the non-modelers had to fly home with something. They were joined there by many longtime friends, including. Steve Smith who talks about how he transitioned from attendee to vendor with his own custom offerings. Along the way they also sit down with Marta Kristen, Judy Robinson in the original Lost in Space 1965-1968. She shared memories of working on that series and, because Barry had to ask, playing Lorelei the mermaid in Beach Blanket Bingo (1965). A good time was had by all. Thanks for listening!

aka - A long time to watch in a galaxy far, far away … Star Wars (1977) has a runtime of 121 minutes. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), considered by right minded people to be the best of the Star Wars prequels, has a runtime of 136 minutes. Andor the prequel, or perhaps prelude, to Rogue One clocks in at 1212 minutes, or just over 20 hours. This week, with three of four, three episode Andor arcs released the Regular Joe's devote even more time to examining how those minutes were spent. There's no disagreement that Andor has its moments of greatness. What is in dispute is, whether the great justifies the wait. This week, the Regular Joe's tackle the first trio of episodes from two shows returning for long awaited sophomore seasons. The Last of Us was the surprise hit of 2023. It is the  rare video game property that found a life of its own, and proved that zombies weren't actually done to death. The show returns with a gut punch of a second episode, delivering tandem assaults viewers are unlikely to forget. Meanwhile, in a galaxy, not all that far away, Andor, the 2022 prequel to Star Wars prequel Rogue One, is back, depicting the title character's evolution from, dude out for himself, to rebel hero. While not everyone agrees on how Tony Gilroy chose to use screen time, the first of  four three episode arcs reminds us how good Star Wars really can be. As the Regular Joes await the long anticipated return of Andor they take a look at some of the many other things the House of Mouse has been pursuing on the Marvel, Star Wars and other fronts. Daredevil: Born Again, the continuation, more or less, of Netflix Daredevil series, has wrapped delivering much of what we were looking for, while still leaving us wanting for more. Star Wars Celebration 2025 yielded lots of upcoming Star Wars news, including films that we actually believe are going to happen. But, we've been fooled before. Lastly there's updated trailers for Tron: Aries (October 10), Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25), and the soon to drop Thunderbolts*. This week it's the episode no one has been waiting for, as the Regular Joes share their thoughts on Kraven: The Hunter the most recent Spider-Man adjacent film from Sony pictures. The film, which underperformed even Morbius (2022) has left some people thinking, maybe Madame Webb (2024) wasn't as bad as we thought. Actually, It was. On the plus side, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has suited up as both Quicksilver and Kick Ass will likely be back in tights as soon as this film is forgotten. In our recurring series on class in Vermont we meet a filmmaker from Richford who discusses the challenges of attending college among more affluent peers. Plus, a federal judge halts a Trump administration order that would have deported two Vermont high school students from Nicaragua, some Vermont lawmakers consider adding citizenship and immigration status to the state's fair housing law, a bill that would review how Vermont recognizes groups as Native American tribes is introduced at the Statehouse, and invasive zebra mussels are discovered on the American side of Lake Memphremagog.

This week, in tribute to the recently departed Val Kilmer, the Regular Joes are rereleasing episode 332: recorded nearly five years ago, in which all five Regular Joes take a look at three Kilmer Klassics. His first starring role Top Secret (1984), fan favorite Willow (1988) and western epic Tombstone (1993). Be advised. Not everything holds up over time. We speak of course of episode 332. This week the Regular Joes, eventually, talk through the recent epic length cast announcement for Avengers Doomsday. Which includes (at a minimum) everyone from the upcoming Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four: First Steps films. Which begs the question, is it possible for a cast announcement to be a spoiler? The Electric State is a “flop.” A $275 million failure for Netflix directed by the Russo Brothers who sole talent seems to be directing Marvel films … Unless you a have actually seen it. Because real people place this film a lot higher than its 15% rotten tomatoes critic rating. This week the Regular Joe's unanimously agree, it's quite possible to watch The Electric State. enjoy the characters, the story, and yes, the very cool robots, without weighing that against what the film cost to make. Give it a try. No one's asking you to write a check … other than your monthly Netflix subscription. They also take a look at two recently dropped trailers. Ballerina is a John Wick adjacent action film, starring Ana de Armas. And if that hasn't already sold you, what will? There are some truly amazing items for sale, particularly if you're in the income bracket to drop a half a million on a piece of Star Wars history.  Fans of the original Netflix Daredevil series have been waiting six plus years to see the man without fear back in action. And while Daredevil Born Again is clearly building up to a rematch between Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock's alter ego, the consensus among the Regular Joe's is, it's taking its own time getting there. It's been nearly 6 years since Avengers Endgame. It's well past time to get the band … or something like the band, back together. This week the Regular Joe's each roll out their suggested roster for the next iteration of Marvel's premiere super team. Think of it like fantasy sports for nerds. As you might expect there's some common ground, but also some radically divergent ideas, as they forge the respective teams of old guard, new blood, and a few wild cards. It's a New World Order. Scratch that, it's a Brave New World, as the fourth Captain America film makes its big screen debut. This time around it's Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) who wields the shield, while still wearing the wings, as if he is not quite sure this gig is gonna last. This delayed, retitled, and much reshot MCU film marks Cap 2.0's first big screen appearance and the follow up to the 2021 Disney Plus series Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So, is it good? The Regular Joes answer with a resounding, “sort of.” They run down the good points and the bad points as the first of three 2025 Marvel films falls short of it's box office hopes. Fort Ticonderoga is the site of the first American victory in the Revolutionary War, and the site of the Star Trek Original Series Set Tour. Note: only one of these is accessible in winter. Hint, it's the one with phasers and not muskets. While there the Joes interview James Cawley, creator of this unique attraction, about his own involvement in the Star Trek franchise, as well as his many other interests.
