aka - A long time to watch in a galaxy far, far away … Star Wars (1977) has a runtime of 121 minutes. Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (2016), considered by right minded people to be the best of the Star Wars prequels, has a runtime of 136 minutes. Andor the prequel, or perhaps prelude, to Rogue One clocks in at 1212 minutes, or just over 20 hours. This week, with three of four, three episode Andor arcs released the Regular Joe's devote even more time to examining how those minutes were spent. There's no disagreement that Andor has its moments of greatness. What is in dispute is, whether the great justifies the wait. This week, the Regular Joe's tackle the first trio of episodes from two shows returning for long awaited sophomore seasons. The Last of Us was the surprise hit of 2023. It is the  rare video game property that found a life of its own, and proved that zombies weren't actually done to death. The show returns with a gut punch of a second episode, delivering tandem assaults viewers are unlikely to forget. Meanwhile, in a galaxy, not all that far away, Andor, the 2022 prequel to Star Wars prequel Rogue One, is back, depicting the title character's evolution from, dude out for himself, to rebel hero. While not everyone agrees on how Tony Gilroy chose to use screen time, the first of  four three episode arcs reminds us how good Star Wars really can be. As the Regular Joes await the long anticipated return of Andor they take a look at some of the many other things the House of Mouse has been pursuing on the Marvel, Star Wars and other fronts. Daredevil: Born Again, the continuation, more or less, of Netflix Daredevil series, has wrapped delivering much of what we were looking for, while still leaving us wanting for more. Star Wars Celebration 2025 yielded lots of upcoming Star Wars news, including films that we actually believe are going to happen. But, we've been fooled before. Lastly there's updated trailers for Tron: Aries (October 10), Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25), and the soon to drop Thunderbolts*. This week it's the episode no one has been waiting for, as the Regular Joes share their thoughts on Kraven: The Hunter the most recent Spider-Man adjacent film from Sony pictures. The film, which underperformed even Morbius (2022) has left some people thinking, maybe Madame Webb (2024) wasn't as bad as we thought. Actually, It was. On the plus side, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, who has suited up as both Quicksilver and Kick Ass will likely be back in tights as soon as this film is forgotten. In our recurring series on class in Vermont we meet a filmmaker from Richford who discusses the challenges of attending college among more affluent peers. Plus, a federal judge halts a Trump administration order that would have deported two Vermont high school students from Nicaragua, some Vermont lawmakers consider adding citizenship and immigration status to the state's fair housing law, a bill that would review how Vermont recognizes groups as Native American tribes is introduced at the Statehouse, and invasive zebra mussels are discovered on the American side of Lake Memphremagog.

This week, in tribute to the recently departed Val Kilmer, the Regular Joes are rereleasing episode 332: recorded nearly five years ago, in which all five Regular Joes take a look at three Kilmer Klassics. His first starring role Top Secret (1984), fan favorite Willow (1988) and western epic Tombstone (1993). Be advised. Not everything holds up over time. We speak of course of episode 332. This week the Regular Joes, eventually, talk through the recent epic length cast announcement for Avengers Doomsday. Which includes (at a minimum) everyone from the upcoming Thunderbolts and Fantastic Four: First Steps films. Which begs the question, is it possible for a cast announcement to be a spoiler? Hey, we only have to wait fourteen months to find out. Right? Fingers crossed. They also discuss the highs, lows and surprises of the just completed Prop Store Auction. The Electric State is a “flop.” A $275 million failure for Netflix directed by the Russo Brothers who sole talent seems to be directing Marvel films … Unless you a have actually seen it. Because real people place this film a lot higher than its 15% rotten tomatoes critic rating. This week the Regular Joe's unanimously agree, it's quite possible to watch The Electric State. enjoy the characters, the story, and yes, the very cool robots, without weighing that against what the film cost to make. Give it a try. No one's asking you to write a check … other than your monthly Netflix subscription. They also take a look at two recently dropped trailers. Ballerina is a John Wick adjacent action film, starring Ana de Armas. And if that hasn't already sold you, what will? And while Daredevil Born Again is clearly building up to a rematch between Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock's alter ego, the consensus among the Regular Joe's is, it's taking its own time getting there. It's been nearly 6 years since Avengers Endgame. It's well past time to get the band … or something like the band, back together. This week the Regular Joe's each roll out their suggested roster for the next iteration of Marvel's premiere super team. Think of it like fantasy sports for nerds. As you might expect there's some common ground, but also some radically divergent ideas, as they forge the respective teams of old guard, new blood, and a few wild cards. It's a New World Order. Scratch that, it's a Brave New World, as the fourth Captain America film makes its big screen debut. This time around it's Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie) who wields the shield, while still wearing the wings, as if he is not quite sure this gig is gonna last. This delayed, retitled, and much reshot MCU film marks Cap 2.0's first big screen appearance and the follow up to the 2021 Disney Plus series Falcon and the Winter Soldier. So, is it good? The Regular Joes answer with a resounding, “sort of.” They run down the good points and the bad points as the first of three 2025 Marvel films falls short of it's box office hopes. This week, the Regular Joes, all five of them, make the Trek to Ticonderoga. There are two good reasons to visit this small New York town. Fort Ticonderoga is the site of the first American victory in the Revolutionary War, and the site of the Star Trek Original Series Set Tour. Note: only one of these is accessible in winter. Hint, it's the one with phasers and not muskets. While there the Joes interview James Cawley, creator of this unique attraction, about his own involvement in the Star Trek franchise, as well as his many other interests. We all have our own respective passions, but few of us pursue them to the degree that James Cawley has. For 35 years Star Trek V: The Final Frontier (1989) has held the dubious distinction of being the worst Star Trek film ever made, but that inauspicious run is over. With the release of the Paramount+ film Star Trek: Section 31 there's a new benchmark for bad in the Trek universe. To spare you one hour and 35 minutes of weak, nonsensical plot, thin characters, and cheesy gimmicks, the Regular Joe's watched Section 31 for you.  Note: there will be SPOILERS, but think of it as a “mercy spoiling.” From the far future we move to recent past as the long awaited MCU version of Fantastic Four releases its first teaser/trailer serving up a mid-century-modern take on Marvel's first family of adventurers. This week, the Regular Joe's catch up each other on what they've been doing the last few weeks. Inspired by the recent 55 films episodes Tod has decided to rewatch classic films in their original unadulterated format to kick this off he recently went to see King Kong (1933) on the big screen in a theater where it originally played when released. Dave, long the master of custom-made displays and plaques has started a business … wait for it, making and selling custom-made displays and plaques. Did you recently pick up a pair of old ruby slippers that you really want to show off? Dave can help. Barry is just back from his third trip to the happiest place on Earth, at least the happiest place on Earth if you're Barry. Yes, another research trip to Lucas Film and Skywalker Ranch. This week the Regular Joe's cover the wrap up of two sci-fi series. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the first child centric Disney+ offering from that universe. Lower Decks was the first animated Star Trek series since 1975, and was intended for adults. Specifically adults who are REALLY into Star Trek. Likely the only thing these two shows have in common is that they both exceeded expectations, and pushed the boundaries of what you can do within their respective universes. On the whole this was a good year. Barry didn't buy himself anything a week before the gift exchange, Dave didn't already have everything, and Tod grudgingly accepted that he has gone up a tee shirt size. From the Max Fleischer cartoons, the early serials, the 1950's series, and back to movie screens and a succession of TV shows, no other hero has left the footprint in pop culture that the Man of Steel has. An orphaned refugee who gives back to the world that took him in, Superman is intrinsically tied to the American mythos. It seems that every generation has a Superman, and this summer James Gunn will bring the newest incarnation to the big screen. The first trailer for Superman (2025) is out and the Regular Joes break down the brief glimpse into familiar characters, and many never before seen on screen. While the stakes remain high, the dark and broody tone of recent years seems to be behind us. With callbacks to the unaired pilot, the original series, the Next Generation, the Kelvin Universe, Discovery, and Picard, the brief video is deeply routed in the Star Trek universe. For fans who were underwhelmed by Kirk's death in Star Trek: Generations, or disappointed by the brief reference to Spock's death off screen in Star Trek Beyond, unification provides some intensely satisfying closure for one of the greatest friendships in sci-fi lore. And, because Brian somehow always knows how to be at the right place at the right time, he shares his experience watching the premiere of the short alongside William Shatner.  How's that for a phaser drop? Last week the Regular Joes (all the Regular Joes) travelled from up and down the east coast to gather in Providence RI, for the Rhode Island Comic-Con, AKA the biggest con in the littlest state. After spending a day and a half, roaming the sales floor and checking out the show's guests, the Joes took their traditional Sofa in the lobby of the Omni Providence, to share their experience with you. Who they saw, what they picked up, and why Barry actually bought comics at a comic con. They had a few celebrity guests stop in along the way, including Michelle Ang, Omega from Star Wars: The Bad Batch, and Dr. Britt Burke DMD (AEW) a pro wrestler, and …. yes, a dentist. As impossible as it might seem, until quite recently, Barry had never seen An American Werewolf in London. This week, the Regular Joe's, joined by Tom Spina of Regal Robot, take a look at the 1981 John Landis horror/dark comedy cult classic. Tom shares his first-hand experience with one of the screen used props, and recounts his own meeting with John Landis. Groundbreaking in many ways, the film earned Rick Baker the first ever Academy award for best makeup. In addition to an unforgettable transformation sequence, American Werewolf also has early 80s era Jenny Agutter, and that's never a bad thing. As the Regular Joe's annual outing to the Rhode Island Comic Con draws near it's time for the Joe's review of the guest list for the convention. While normal folks may be contemplating which celebrity guests they are most interested in getting autographs from, the hosts have their own, sometimes humorous, and other times awkward, way of articulating their own preferences. This week the Regular Joe's pay tribute to the one hit wonders. Single-Season TV shows, that captured our interest, but never really sprouted roots. Most faded into obscurity. Some like Firefly and Battlestar Galactica gained cult status. While others have survived only in the collective consciousness, or on cable rerun channels. The Joes run down several of their favorite short run shows going back to the 70s. This week the Regular Joe's sit down with Adam Ezekiel, costume designer and maker, who operates the website, nostromocrew.com. Adam's niche, and passion, is crafting meticulously accurate replicas of the patches, insignia and crew uniforms from the film Alien (1979). He explains how he got started, and the incredible effort he put into recreating the screen used wardrobe. Also, his interesting connections to Allen Romulus, the most recent entry in the Alien franchise. Adam's work is truly amazing. Ultimately the question becomes which, Marvel films do you find compelling enough to rewatch, whether you stumble upon them while randomly channel surfing, spot them while scrolling the channel menu, queue up a streaming channel, or if you're really old-school, loading physical media. Along the way, it becomes clear that there's apparently no one way to watch TV. This week a pair of C list characters from DC and Marvel debut new limited run series on Max and Disney+. Agatha all along is a spin off of WandaVision (2021) and a reimagining of Witch Agatha Harkness, a supporting character in Marvel comics going back to 1970. The Penguin aka Oswald Cobblepot, (here renamed Oswald Cobb) has been a Batman adversary since 1941. More recent outings have morphed him from an umbrella and fowl obsessed novelty villain into a grotesque, twisted and sinister character. This most recent incarnation from The Batman (2022) casts an unrecognizable Colin Farrell as a low-level mobster on the rise in a recently broken Gotham City. One episode in, which of these two offerings do the Regular Joe's find the most engaging? Back in the day, when large console TVs dominated American living rooms, the harsh reality of back to school was blunted by the fact that September also heralded the premiere of the new Fall TV shows. That era is long behind us. ABC, CBS and NBC no longer hold sway over our viewing habits, as cable and streaming options offer seeming infinite choices of content year round. So, are there still upcoming things this fall worth watching? There are people who say the era of Summer blockbusters is behind us. There are also people who say audiences are done with superhero films, and that Marvel Studios has lost its way. Then Deadpool & Wolverine happened, and the three-quel for Marvel's most annoying, talkative and violent (yes, this includes the Punisher) character, breaks all the rules and has fun doing it. Despite two years of teasers and countless trailers there were still several surprises for the Regular Joes. And they break down the high points, and the … slightly lesser high-points. The last few weeks have been rough on Barry. Few people have as deep and abiding love for Star Wars as he does. But, sometimes love hurts. While other, so-called Star Wars fans, wanted nothing more than to tear down The Acolyte, Barry did his best to remain optimistic. And with the courage and valor of a Jedi (at least what we used to expect from a Jedi) he maintained hope til the very end. This week the Regular Joes, plus Jedi Master Brian Mix, perform a postmortem on The Acolyte. What were its strengths, and where did it come up short? The question remains, how do you have all the tools for greatness and put together something that looks like this? Hopefully lessons were learned. The Joes weigh in on episode 5, considered by many to be the high point of the series so far … unless of course you are a Jedi red shirt, then not so much.
