As the Regular Joes await the long anticipated return of Andor they take a look at some of the many other things the House of Mouse has been pursuing on the Marvel, Star Wars and other fronts. Daredevil: Born Again, the continuation, more or less, of Netflix Daredevil series, has wrapped delivering much of what we were looking for, while still leaving us wanting for more. Star Wars Celebration 2025 yielded lots of upcoming Star Wars news, including films that we actually believe are going to happen. But, we've been fooled before. Lastly there's updated trailers for Tron: Aries (October 10), Fantastic Four: First Steps (July 25), and the soon to drop Thunderbolts*. Note: Excitement levels vary widely for these projects. There's also a round of What's in the Box and the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!
This week on Comics and Chronic we discuss the return of the Netflix Daredevil, now on Disney Plus, Daredevil Born AgainCharlie Cox, Vincent D'Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Deborah Ann Woll & others return for an amazing comeback! But first, disaster strikes Cody! You'll have to tune in to hear how. We take a little trip to segue city this episode. Jake compliments Ben Affleck Daredevil while Cody & he remain united in their hatred for Foggy Nelson. Is this season an analogy for what's happening in the US right now? This season brings back the classic grit and brutality from the original. Is there Italian discrimination in this show? This show does not boot lick in the slightest! Was Muse under utilized? Is using chairs to promote the Avengers cheap as fuck? Who will the roster for the Defenders be in the next season? Michael Gandolfini kills it and successfully emulates his father's acting. Was the CGI good? Would a Robert Rodriguez Daredevil film crush? Should Ben Stiller play a 90's Daredevil? Will the Avengers just put anyone on their team? Did this show suffer from a Marvel trope of the hero not wearing their costume enough? Tune in now!Check out our Patreon:https://www.patreon.com/ComicsandChronicCheck out our website: https://www.comicsandchronic.com/New episodes every THURSDAYFollow us on social media! The first season of Born Again comes to a close - does the finale work? Considering we are Netflix Daredevil haters turned Disney+ Daredevil lovers will we be satisfied with how things are wrapped up? And did Jon Bernthal come back to the show only after a change was made that kinda ruins the Punisher? All of this and more is discussed on the show. Before that we talk yet again about the unsmiling Superman, we discuss an eternally underrated X book and we reminisce about getting mugged in New York City back in the day. Next week: We'll be reading the first appearance of the Thunderbolts in Incredible Hulk Vol 2 #449. And coming soon: our Watch Men episode about the next MCU film, Thunderbolts*!

In this jam-packed episode of Challenge Accepted, Frank and Thomas review Daredevil: Born Again Episodes 5 and 6. The duo dives into the show's shift from classic "villain of the week" storytelling to its high-stakes narrative arc, breaking down standout performances, hidden MCU connections, and an unforgettable rooftop showdown with Muse. Episode 6 raises the stakes with a deeper look into Kingpin's power grab and the introduction of the vigilante task force. Muse is an intense, terrifying villain with eerie presence and a comic-accurate brutality. Daredevil's enhanced abilities are showcased brilliantly through sound design and visual storytelling. Faith continues to ground Matt Murdock's character, adding emotional depth to his choices. Fisk is on a collision course with total corruption—mirroring his comic book roots as Kingpin. Visual and auditory cues are used to elevate both action and emotional beats in the series. Quotes: “It felt like a villain-of-the-week episode in the best way—just like those 90s shows we loved.” – Frank “They finally made the world feel alive again. You never know which hero or villain is going to pop up next.” – Thomas “Daredevil isn't surviving despite being blind. This week Brian Mix joins the regular Regular Joe's as they look over the list of treasures and curios from the upcoming three day Prop Store Entertainment Memorabilia Auction. There are some truly amazing items for sale, particularly if you're in the income bracket to drop a half a million on a piece of Star Wars history. Fans of the original Netflix Daredevil series have been waiting six plus years to see the man without fear back in action. And while Daredevil Born Again is clearly building up to a rematch between Wilson Fisk and Matt Murdock's alter ego, the consensus among the Regular Joe's is, it's taking its own time getting there. Tod remains endlessly optimistic, while the others are really hoping for a flash of crimson soon. There's also a round of What's in the Box and the usual Random Topics. Thanks for listening!

Who else LOVED the Netflix DAREDEVIL series?? We did, and we are so excited that DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN - Marvel Television's continuation of those first 3 seasons - is now airing on Disney+!! We've been waiting years for Disney to pick up where Netflix left off and now it's here. We'll give you some comic history of Daredevil and a brief summary of what you should know going in. We also break down the first two episodes and take a special look at imagery, sound design, and character journeys. Wilson Fisk/Kingpin (Vincent D'Onofrio) and Matt Murdock/Daredevil (Charlie Cox) reprise their respective roles and we were both blown away. FYI, there will be spoilers. DAREDEVIL: BORN AGAIN begins several years after the events of Netflix's DAREDEVIL, and a year after Matt Murdock has stopped being the vigilante "Daredevil". Now, Murdock continues his fight for justice as a lawyer while former crime boss Wilson Fisk has been elected mayor of New York City, putting the pair on a collision course. This first season consists of 9 episodes total, and the first 2 premiered on March 4. Over the next 2 months the entire series will air, and we are here for it. Today in Star Wars History 3/4/2002 Vanity Fair continues its Star Wars cover features with Attack Of The Clones. Who remembers this cover story? Do you still have your copy? After six and a half years, Daredevil has finally returned to screens! That's right, Daredevil: Born Again has finally premiered on Disney+! It has been a long and tumultuous road getting to the moment of finally getting this show. From the highly publicized creative overhaul to the incredibly naive & silly comments made by the show runner just a few weeks back, this show hasn't exactly had an easy road getting to our screens. For those of you who are unaware, the Netflix Daredevil series might be my single favorite show of all-time; it's CERTAINLY my favorite comic book show ever and that will likely never be topped. Daredevil himself has always been one of my top three favorite Marvel Comics characters and Charlie Cox's iteration of the character is a better version than I'd ever imagined we could get onscreen. It just feels right for this show to continue, but Marvel Studios & Disney+'s track record hasn't been great, especially of late. Are the first 2 episodes of Daredevil: Born Again AS GOOD as the original show? Find out in this SPOILER review!
This week the Regular Joe's cover the wrap up of two sci-fi series. Star Wars: Skeleton Crew is the first child centric Disney+ offering from that universe. Lower Decks was the first animated Star Trek series since 1975, and was intended for adults. Specifically adults who are REALLY into Star Trek. Likely the only thing these two shows have in common is that they both exceeded expectations, and pushed the boundaries of what you can do within their respective universes. Note: there will be SPOILERS. And, because it's continually looping in Tod‘s head, they also talk about the just released trailer for the Disney+ continuation of the late, much lamented, Netflix Daredevil series, Daredevil Born Again … did we mention it's coming March 4th? There's also the usual Random Topics, and a round of What's in the Box. Thanks for listening!
This trailer clearly set the tone for what will be the spiritual successor for the Netflix Daredevil series. That tone is violence, gore, and mayhem, very tv-ma, as it should be. Diabolu Frank leans into hellish handle by insisting Illegal Machine & Mr. Fixit join him in exploring the comics and cinematic life of Matthew Michael Murdock, the most famous blind defense attorney in the Marvel Universe! Oh, and also "The Devil of Hell's Kitchen," which was a much more imposing monicker before it gentrified into Clinton! We span the origin through an overview of the comics from 1964-2014 (we're completely ignorant of the past decade, so maybe call this a very belated half-century celebration?) And as is our tendency, we get into the adaptations into animation and live action, primarily 1989's The Trial of the Incredible Hulk, BlindFleck in 2003's Daredevil, Bennifer Garner's 2005 Elektra, and 2016's Netflix Daredevil! Join the guys as we discuss the newest Disney+ series Echo, along with the first season of the Netflix Daredevil season. (Which is NOW MCU CANON!)We start the episode off covering the first season of Echo. We go over what we thought about the show, and whether or not we think the MCU hit the mark on this series. We touch on the portrayal of Kingpin, Maya Lopez, the Daredevil cameo, and that unfortunate finale that had us all wishing it went a different direction. After that, it's DAREDEVIL TIME!After over a year of both hosts nagging Caleb to watch the Netflix series, he obliged. So obviously, here we are talking about it!We go into detail on what we thought of the gritty and grounded Marvel series, including all of the highs this show brings. A strong villain presence with the Hell's Kitchen underground operating under Wilson Fisk/Kingpin, gripping court room trial scenes, incredible fight choreography, Matt's wrestling with religion and morality...and SO SO much more that makes this show one of the best.We had a blast recording this episode, and can't wait to reminisce on season 2!00:00 - Echo Season 1 Review22:00 - Daredevil Season 1 ReviewFollow us on social media:•Twitter/Instagram/TikTok: @whysosidiouspod•YouTube: www.youtube.com/ @whysosidiouspod?app=desktopEmail us questions/requests:whysosidious@yahoo.comSubscribe, Rate, and Review!

The Marvel Universe, known for its dominance in the cinematic domain, has been undergoing growing pains as it transitions to the small screen. The latest hiccup? The mid-production pause of Daredevil: Born Again. A Rebirth for Daredevil After producing fewer than half of its planned 18 episodes, Marvel Studio executives including Kevin Feige recognized that Daredevil: Born Again wasn't meeting their expectations. This resulted in the surprising decision to let go of the head writers, Chris Ord and Matt Corman, along with the directors set to take the series forward. Yet, while this may sound like doom and gloom, the studio's decision also presents an opportunity. By rebooting the series, they're hoping to recreate the magic that made the original Netflix Daredevil series, starring Charlie Cox, such a success. Marvel's Television Journey Since the Emmy-winning WandaVision hit screens in January 2021, Marvel's venture into TV has been a learning curve. Their innovative approach to TV series production — shooting entire seasons without pilots, letting film executives helm TV series, and heavily relying on postproduction for fixes — was a gamble. Despite the popularity on Disney+, Marvel has encountered criticisms from both audiences and critics alike, prompting the company to reconsider its TV-making model. Behind-the-Scenes Drama Marvel's struggles are not limited to Daredevil. The company has faced internal tensions, creative differences, and a general lack of centralized vision, as seen with other series such as Moon Knight and She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. The situation grew even murkier with Secret Invasion, which saw various leadership struggles and extensive changes to its production team. This period of turmoil and continuous revamps have raised eyebrows, leading many to question if Marvel's TV dominance could ever rival its film success. Embracing Traditional Television Methods Recognizing these challenges, Marvel is taking definitive steps to bring clarity to its TV production process. Plans include: Hiring showrunners to maintain a consistent vision from start to finish. Appointing dedicated TV executives, ensuring that the medium gets the specialized attention it requires. Developing pilots and show bibles before committing to full seasons. Producing multi-season serialized TV shows, moving away from the limited-series format. Upcoming shows like Echo and Wonder Man indicate a shift towards more personal, character-driven narratives, a departure from their earlier event-driven format. Looking Ahead Marvel's TV journey has been a roller coaster of highs and lows, but the future looks promising. Winderbaum's vision of viewers connecting with the characters, beyond the broader Marvel Universe links, speaks volumes about Marvel's commitment to authentic storytelling. For fans, the hope is that this new direction will result in content that not only matches the cinematic brilliance of Marvel but offers a fresh, engaging perspective on beloved characters and stories. Jon Bernthal is returning to his role as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher, in the upcoming Marvel Studios series, Daredevil: Born Again. This news comes as a pleasant surprise for fans who have been eagerly waiting for Bernthal's return to the character since the cancellation of the Punisher series on Netflix. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Bernthal will join Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio in the series, which will begin shooting in New York this month. Born Again, based on a Daredevil storyline published in 1986, will be an 18-episode series, unlike other Marvel series that typically come in six or nine episodes per season. Writers and executive producers Matt Corman and Chris Ord are behind the show, which is expected to premiere in the spring of 2024 on Disney+. While the show deviates from the comic book storyline, it will still feature Daredevil's battle against Wilson Fisk, aka the Kingpin. Bernthal first played the Punisher on Netflix's version of Daredevil in 2016 and went on to headline his own Punisher series for two seasons. The series was canceled by Netflix ahead of the launch of Disney+. But Marvel boss Kevin Feige has confirmed that the Netflix characters are still in play, and Cox's Daredevil has made cameo appearances in Spider-Man: No Way Home and She-Hulk. D'Onofrio has also appeared in Hawkeye, and both actors are expected to play key roles in Echo, which will set the stage for Born Again. While Bernthal is returning to his role as the Punisher, other actors from the Netflix Daredevil series are not expected to return. It is also unclear whether classic supporting characters Karen Page and Foggy Nelson will be recast or excised from the story. In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Bernthal expressed his desire to retain the darkness of the Netflix portrayal of the character in the upcoming series. He said, “This character means so much to people in the military. So like I said before, it's not about whether you do the character; it's about whether you can do it right, and I'm only interested in doing it right.” Overall, fans of the Punisher and Daredevil can look forward to Jon Bernthal's return as Frank Castle in Daredevil: Born Again, which promises to be an epic series that stays true to the character's dark and gritty roots.

As with most Marvel Cinematic Universe entries, “Strange 2” is revealing itself to be a frontloaded box office affair, though there isn't much on May's release slate that looks to pose much competition except for Focus Features' “Downtown Abbey: A New Era” next week and Paramount's “Top Gun: Maverick” on Memorial Day weekend. After the expected plummet from a fanatic-packed opening day tally, “Multiverse of Madness” should balance out to around a 67% drop for the weekend. That's on the steeper side of sophomore weekend drops for a Marvel Studios entry, though by starting with the eleventh-biggest domestic debut of all time there isn't anywhere to go from there but down. On Friday, Disney announced that “Strange 2” had crossed $550 million globally in just nine days. The film should surpass a $300 million domestic gross sometime over the next week. DISNEY+ Disney+ Will Have Fewer Commercials Than Hulu, But Buyer Demand Is “Extraordinary”, Ad Chief Rita Ferro Says; Netflix And Other Newcomers Should Note “It Isn't Easy” Disney+ Will Have Fewer Commercials Than Hulu, But Buyer Demand Is “Extraordinary”, Ad Chief Rita Ferro Says, And Netflix And Other Newcomers Should Note “It Isn't Easy” – Deadline Rita Ferro, president of ad sales for Disney, said the forthcoming ad-supported tier of Disney+ will have a less “robust” amount of ads compared with Hulu. That disparity, at least initially, will mainly be because about 65% of subscribers come to the streaming service for movies, which don't lend themselves to commercial interruption. “Movies are the reason people come to the platform, and movies have a different ad load,” she explained. The family-friendly nature of Disney+ will also limit the scope to “four-quadrant” advertisers. Disney last evening hosted its upfronts pitch to advertisers and aside from a brief tease from CEO Bob Chapek at the outset, there were no specifics offered about the ad tier. Consumer pricing, timing and other details are still TBD. Speaking alongside Disney CFO Christine McCarthy at a conference hosted by Wall Street research firm MoffettNathanson, Ferro said the plan is to “start slow” with 15- and 30-second spots before adding the full suite of ad options on Disney+. Since the announcement earlier this year about the ad-supported option, she said, “I can't even tell you the demand we've had for this. … The response has been extraordinary.” ‘Daredevil' Disney+ Series in the Works With Matt Corman, Chris Ord Set to Write (EXCLUSIVE) 'Daredevil' Disney+ Series in the Works With Writers Set (EXCLUSIVE) - Variety A new “Daredevil” series is moving forward at Disney+, with Variety having exclusively learned from sources that Matt Corman and Chris Ord are attached to write and executive produce. Rumors have persisted for some time that a Disney+ series about the Man Without Fear was in the works, especially considering that two of the stars of the Netflix “Daredevil” series — Charlie Cox and Vincent D'Onofrio — have appeared in recent Marvel projects. Cox once again played Matt Murdock, the secret identity of Daredevil, in the film “Spider-Man: No Way Home,” while D'Onofrio reprised the role of Wilson Fisk, a.k.a. Kingpin, in the Disney+ series “Hawkeye.” It now appears that the project is picking up steam with the hiring of Corman and Ord, although Marvel has yet to announce anything regarding the show formally. Fans have been clamoring for more Daredevil ever since the Netflix series was canceled in 2018 after three seasons. They were in for a long wait, however, as Variety reported in 2018 that the deal with Netflix included a clause that prevented any characters from the Marvel-Netflix shows from appearing in any non-Netflix projects for two years after cancellation. The move came as Disney looked to bring its Marvel heroes under one umbrella, with multiple Marvel Cinematic Universe shows having since debuted on Disney+. “Moon Knight” starring Oscar Isaac was the last such show to premiere, with a trailer for the “She-Hulk” series starring Tatiana Maslany dropping earlier this week. The announcement was made official during Disney's Upfront presentation in New York, where the streamer also unveiled the first official trailer. In addition to Maslany as Jennifer Walters aka She-Hulk, the show's cast also includes Mark Ruffalo (I Know This Much Is True) as Bruce Banner aka The Hulk, Tim Roth (Twin Peaks) as Emil Blonsky aka Abomination, Ginger Gonzaga (Kidding) as Jennifer's BFF, Renée, Elise Goldsberry (Girls5Eva) as Amelia, Jameela Jamil (The Good Place) as Titania. She-Hulk is the latest in a long line of Marvel series produced for Disney+. Previous releases included WandaVision, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, What If…?, Hawkeye and Moon Knight. Still to come are Ms. Marvel, Secret Invasion and Ironheart, among numerous other series and holiday specials.
