This week, I start with a look down south to the charges against world #1 golfer, Scott Scheffler, before the second round of the PGA Championship. I also examine the cross examination of former personal lawyer to Donald Trump, Michael Cohen, in the trial against the former President. In Canadian stories, I discuss the McGill University injunction application, seeking to end the student protests. I also review the case of the Nova Scotia government versus the Federal government over the needed upgrades to the Chignecto Isthmus. Also covered are the conviction of Colin Tweedy in his retrial over the death of 10-year old Talia Forrest, the not-guilty pleas and seeking of bail in the death of Halifax teen Ahmad Al Marrach, and the retirement of Ron MacDonald, former Anitgonish prosecutor, head of SiRT, and for the past seven years the head of the BC equivalent. Ron had some wise parting words, which other like organizations should heed.

I had the pleasure of speaking with Ron Macdonald recent. His new book, "ANTHOLOGY: Field of Honor" is a collection of extraordinary stories by ordinary people that made commendable impressions in time. Ron Macdonald is an accomplished and published photographer for over twenty years, and a speaker, has just published, “ARLINGTON ANTHOLOGY: Field of Honor”: a riveting narrative that evokes intense emotions in the stories during the Revolutionary War and renders the nation breathless. Ron shares heartwarming and compelling stories of loyalty, brotherhood, sacrifice, and heroism. Across from the Potomac River from Washington DC lies this nation's most sacred of grounds, Arlington National Cemetery. Here resides some of our nation's finest from as far back as the Revolutionary War are buried here. Some 400,000 men and women call Arlington their final resting place—from presidents, honored statesmen, explorers, and literary figures to the common soldier and sailor, along with 3,800 former slaves. Their stories beg to be heard—stories of courage against insurmountable odds, of love of brother and country, and of sacrifice. Stories of hope and dreams and choices made during adversity. In this often heart-wrenching, inspirational anthology, we see how these noble souls, be it generals or ex-slaves, influenced the world in which they lived. Their stories are still with us, making us who we are as a country and bidding us to think of life, not of death. Life to which, in their youth, they lent their passion and joy of spring.” Ron's book can be found on Amazon, and Covenant Books. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/michelemarotta/support

Roy L Hales/ CKTZ News -There are many questions surrounding the death of Jared Lowndes, a 38-year-old indigenous man, at the hands of the Campbell River RCMP. “Our investigation will determine what actually happened. Just because it is on social doesn't mean it is, or isn't, factual. We'll do our best to determine what happened and if appropriate, before we complete our investigation, we will consider releasing some facts,” said Ron MacDonald, Chief Civilian Director of the Independent Investigations Office (IIO). What the RCMP & IIO said According to the RCMP press release: “Just before 9 a.m. on July 8th, a member from the Campbell River RCMP attempted to stop a vehicle in relation to an outstanding warrant. It is reported that the vehicle failed to stop and fled the area. The member notified dispatch and its description was provided to other police officers in the area.” “A short time later the suspect vehicle was located in a parking lot in the 2000 block of the South Island Highway in Campbell River. A police officer boxed in the vehicle and then a confrontation occurred between the suspect and the police officer, who had a Police Service Dog. During the interaction the Police Service Dog was stabbed and killed, and the suspect was shot and was pronounced deceased on scene. The Police Dog Handler was also treated for a knife wound. No other persons were injured.” – BC RCMP notify the IIO BC of a fatal incident in Campbell River Local media added a couple of other details Lowndres was allegedly shot six times, three of which were in his face. He had a puppy in his car, and may have been protecting it when the police dog jumped through his window. That last scenario is at least partially true, for shortly before his death Lowndres wrote, “My daughter, dog and I are now broke, and homeless, left to wander until our car breaks down.” Unfortunately McDonald could not confirm any of these facts because the investigation is still ongoing, there were still witnesses to be interviewed, and his department did not want to influence their testimony. He did say there were “several officers in the area” when the shooting occurred.

The Serious Incident Response Team (SIRT) was asked to investigate whether there was criminal misconduct by police during the period before the appeal of Glen Assoun's conviction. He's the Nova Scotia man who spent 17 years in prison for a murder he didn't commit. Former SIRT director Ronald J. MacDonald is heading up this investigation with his current team of The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIOBC). And of note, unlike SIRT in Nova Scotia, the IIOBC team is made up entirely of civilian members.
While gold was flashing yellow, gold miners made a number of aggressive deals this week.Ron Macdonald, CEO of Zinc8 Energy Solutions (CSE:ZAIR), joined correspondent Paul Harris and Mining Audiences Manager Michael McCrae to record Kitco Roundtable podcast on Friday.Today gold tumbled around 4% as investors sold off the precious metal. February Comex gold futures were last trading at $1,839.40, down 3.88% on the day after breaching a key $1,850 an ounce level. The fall is being blamed on a rise in bond yields and worries about the economy, resulting in liquidation and a flight to cash. However, analysts are still holding onto a long-term bullish trend for gold. Writes that the year ahead is shaping up to be a ‘steady-as-she-goes' year for Fed policy, which is expected to be generally supportive of precious metals for the next two to three years.Despite gold's wobbles, miners announced big moves this week. Agnico Eagle bought TMAC Resources for $286 million Canadian. Of course Shandong announced its takeover offer last May after TMAC but was prevented by federal government with Canadian and China relations souring. Agnico Eagle paid about 26% higher than Shandong's bid.SilverCrest Metals announced this week that it secured project financing facility of US$120 million with RK Mining to build its Las Chispas project in Mexico. SilverCrest already has a contract with Ausenco for construction. Commissioning of the process plant is targeted for Q2 2022 and production ramp-up is slated to begin in Q3 2022.Macdonald's Zinc8 develops energy storage technology. Macdonald is excited about the political changes ahead in the U.S., and the Biden administration should be supportive of moves towards renewables and electrification.
Mr. MacDonald has over 35 years of both public and private sector experience, ranging from international roles within the Parliament of Canada to serving on the boards of numerous publicly listed resource companies. From 1988 to 1997, he was the Member of Parliament for Halifax, Nova Scotia, during which time he was appointed by the Prime Minister of Canada as Parliamentary Secretary of International Trade. From 1997-2002, Mr. MacDonald was President and CEO of the Council of Forest Industries, a large lumber manufacturing, grading and marketing group, where he developed new markets in China, Korea, India and Japan. In recent years Mr. MacDonald has served as President of NRStor Remote Communities and Mines, a Canadian company focused on partnering with off-grid Indigenous communities and mines to develop renewable energy and energy storage projects. https://zinc8energy.com/ https://nexuspmg.com/

Should personal privacy rights trump the public interest when it comes to police-involved shootings? The director of the agency overseeing British Columbia's police watchdog says that's the case -- but the answer is much more complicated and nuanced than that. Across the Potomac River from Washington D.C. lies this nation's sacred of grounds, Arlington National Cemetery, where some of our nation's finest form as far back as the Revolutionary War are buried. Over 310,000 men and women call Arlington their final resting place - from Presidents, honored statesmen, explorers, and literary figures to the common soldier and sailor along with 3,800 former slaves. Their stories beg to be heard- stories of courage against insurmountable odds, of love of brother and country, and of sacrifice. Stories of hope, faith and dreams on choices made during adversity. In this often heart-wrenching, often inspirational anthology, see how these noble souls , whether generals or slaves, influenced the world in which they lived . Their stories are still with us, bidding us to think of life, not death... a life to which , in their youth, they lent the passion and joy of spring.A Native Californian , Ron MacDonald had been an accomplished and published photographer for over 20 years. While traveling and photographing in Europe and here he visited many historical cemeteries, including Omaha Beach Cemetery, where he found his uncle's final resting place. His love of history drove him to tell the untold stories of those who reside at Arlington National Cemetery. This is Ron's first book and tells the often heart-wrenching and inspirational stories of those noble souls, told as if they themselves are telling their own stories.
Energy Storage will get a boost from cities and other governments worried about the potential for natural disasters, says Ron MacDonald, former Canadian Parliament member and Executive Chairman of American Vanadium, which produces energy storage systems. Policy makers in New York State and elsewhere are improving their infrastructure systems, which will result in more money going into energy storage, he says. For example, New York City is funneling funds into improving its infrastructure in response to natural disasters--and that could affect the energy storage market, he says. When one city or state takes action, others often follow the lead, he says. And investors take notice, he says. MacDonald also provides tips for people in the energy storage industry, saying they should connect with their policy makers. Interview by Lisa Cohn of EnergyEfficiencyMarkets.com
According to my guests today, we may be witnessing the dawn of a new industrial revolution. But instead of raw ingredients like coal, steel, and lumber, this century's boom is likely to be fueled by lithium, tantalum, vanadium, and a host of other rare earth minerals and metals. These are the elements that will make possible infinite vs. finite energy technologies, medical device advances, and communication capabilities that will touch all people around the globe. Because these elements are only feasible to mine from a few places on earth, there is the distinct possibility that supply of rare earth materials could become inequitable – if not contentious, and hence, the opportunities for countries to be part of the new global economic boom could be severely limited. My guests today are Ron MacDonald, former member of the Canadian Parliament, and Executive Chairman of Critical Elements Corporation; and Jean-Sébastien Lavallée,

My guests today are Ron MacDonald, former member of the Canadian Parliament, and Executive Chairman of Critical Elements Corporation; and Jean-Sébastien Lavallée, President & CEO of Critical Elements Corporation. We will discuss breakthroughs in North American supplies of rare earth materials, and why it is so important to secure a domestic supply of these vital resources.
