School bullying has existed since formal education began and our efforts to understand it have not always been as successful as we would like. However, over the last 50 years there has been a considerable amount of research on bullying and in more recent years our understanding of the complexity of the issue and how it relates to social norms has increased. Furthermore, while we have some knowledge of the emotional and developmental impact of bullying on individuals, we are only coming to see that there is also an economic cost that arises from this human phenomenon.

Embracing Your Season: Raising Littles and Understanding Teens with Paige Clingenpeel
Today on Embracing Your Season, Paige shares a message with parents as they enter the chaotic season of back-to-school. With encouragement and actionable items to equip your kids, this episode is the boost your family needs as they enter a new school season. Paige's Takeaways:Teach your kids that words DO hurt.Words do have power and they can shape our identity. We can equip our kids to choose what words have power over them. When your kids are hurt or upset about something that was said to them or about them - validate their feelings. Help your kids be critical about what they hear and receive. Ask them “Do you think that's true?”. This is where we can empower our kids to own or discard things they hear.Combat bullying by helping your kids find communityIf they aren't finding friends at school, create opportunities for them to connect with kids at a youth group, 4H, sports program, with family members, etc. Their community doesn't have to revolve around school - and when they have solid friends who speak into their character outside of school, they'll feel more confident inside of school. Parents: Filter what your child saysWhen kids relay a story, they don't necessarily intentionally lie, but they do tend to exaggerate. They view the world through a lens of BIG emotions. Make sure to validate the way they feel, but ask more questions so you can learn more about the actual reality of the situation. Once you have more data, you can walk alongside your child to navigate the circumstances.Growth MindsetWe need to have the perspective that we aren't going to know things off the bat! If your kid comes home frustrated that they don't get a new math formula, encourage them that learning takes time - and that's the case outside of school, too. We can do hard things! They have to build up their resilience to get to where they can stay consistent, and engaged, and ultimately lead to success.School is going to be boring sometimes. But boredom is necessary in order to continue working hard. Help your kids understand that putting in the effort (and knowing that it won't always be easy or fun!) will lead to success and accomplishment - something we get to feel proud of throughout our lives.Resources:Paige ClingenpeelQuestions About the Podcast? Every parent's nightmare unfolded for Crystal when her daughter, Madison, became the target of relentless schoolyard cruelty. The heart-wrenching tale we unravel in this episode is not just Madison's, but that of a family upended by the scourge of bullying. You'll hear firsthand from Crystal, as she details the emotional turmoil and educational upheaval thrust upon her child, and the consequent battle for Madison's right to learn in a safe environment. As we dissect the shocking inaction of a school system that previously overlooked the bully's fake bomb threat, we expose a flawed system in dire need of reform. The conversation takes a turn through the perilous landscape of school safety and the stark reality of educational neglect. Crystal's struggle underscores a broader, disconcerting trend as we explore the bureaucratic barriers barring Maddie from alternative education options. Her aspirations in forensic science hang in the balance, a somber reminder of how one student's malevolence can ripple out, affecting academic pursuits and a sense of security within the school community. This chat is not just a call to awareness but a plea for change in how educational institutions respond to threats and protect their students.Navigating parenting in the digital era proves complex, with challenges magnified under the shadow of trauma. As we engage with this topic, we don't shy away from the tough questions about the influences shaping our youth and the vital role of guidance in their development. The digital realm's impact is pervasive, but this episode isn't just about laying blame—it's about understanding, preventing, and healing. For victims like Madison and their families, we emphasize the essential need for mental health support and a nurturing community, reminding us all of the collective duty we have in nurturing our children to become responsible, compassionate individuals.

First came the shock, then the exodus. More than three-quarters of Nagorno-Karabakh's estimated 120,000 residents have fled since last week's lightning offensive by Azerbaijan overran the ethnic Armenian enclave. Azerbaijan's military has detained a former commander of Nagorno-Karabakh's separatist forces. That's in addition to Ruben Vardanyan, the former head of Karabakh's separatist government, who was charged with financing terrorism after his arrest while fleeing through the Lachin corridor.

Are you using the past to victimize yourself? Do you often repeat stories like, "if my parents had done (or not done) XYZ when I was growing up, I would be so much better off today..." or "because I was cheated on 5 years ago, I can't trust men now..." or "if I had gone to school 20 years ago, my life would be better now..."? These are stories where we use the past - and whatever happened - to victimize and limit ourselves, unconsciously, in the present. In this episode, I share a story of school bullying from my past and how I've used that story to justify my lack of trust in women as an adult. It's a vulnerable episode! We'll also talk about how to start detaching from these limiting stories so you can be free, happy, and at peace NOW. (Which is the only thing that really matters.) Chit-Chat Chill 唞下啦! | 美國廣東話 Podcast 節目 EP99: 美國校園欺凌事件 School Bullying In the United States EP99: | Bullying is a topic that has been discussed for decades, but things have not gotten better. In fact, bullying has become more prevalent over the years. In the United States alone, an estimated one in five students are bullied, which is growing yearly. The most common form of bullying in schools is physical bullying, verbal bullying, and cyberbullying. There are many ways to deal with bullying in schools, but none seem to work. Some people believe that when we teach children about personal responsibility and respect for others, they will be less likely to bully others. Others think we need to make it easier for people to report bullying in schools so that those who commit these crimes against their classmates are punished. The pandemic has taken a toll on the education system. School enrollment has decreased, teacher turnover has ticked up, and students have experienced substantial learning losses. But there is at least one silver lining, according to a paper in the American Economic Review: Insights. Authors Andrew Bacher-Hicks, Joshua Goodman, Jennifer Greif Green, and Melissa K. Holt found that school bullying and cyberbullying dropped by more than 30 percent as schools shifted to remote learning in the spring of 2020. Their results are based on real-time tracking of internet searches, which they show contain useful information about actual bullying behavior. Bacher-Hicks and Goodman recently spoke with Tyler Smith about their approach to studying bullying trends and the degree to which bullying originates in schools and then migrates online. Please share your feedback by taking this quick survey. It should only take a minute or two.
It's no overstatement to say that middle school bullying changed Rabbi Leora Kaye's life. When she was halfway through 5th grade, her parents decided to move. Her new home, in the Chicago suburb of Willamette, was only a short drive from her old home in Evanston, but the move meant changing schools at a really tough time in the school cycle. A social kid with a thriving circle of friends from her synagogue's youth group and Jewish summer camp, Leora had never experienced the kind of ridicule and shaming that soon rained down upon her. The bullies were relentless.Leora's decision to pursue rabbinical studies was 100% motivated by a desire to create safe spaces for others to come together and find community.Leora found refuge in the Jewish spaces where she was made to feel confident and grounded. She says that her youth group and Jewish summer camp gave her a foundation beneath her feet. Today, Leora is the Director of Partnerships and Collaboration at Union for Reform Judaism in Brooklyn, NY. Her daughter once asked her what she does at work each day. After explaining a bit more about how she spends her days bringing people together, Leora's daughter responded, “Oh, so you're a friendship manager!” Episode Links and Resources:Rabbi Leora Kaye: https://urj.org/author/rabbi-leora-kayeQueen Bees and Wannabes, Rosalind WisemanMasterminds and Wingmen, Roasalind WisemanSupport this podcast by subscribing and reviewing!Music is considered “royalty-free” and discovered on Audio Blocks.Technical Podcast Support by: Jon Keur at Wayfare Recording Co.© 2022 Silver Linings Media LLC. National leader Christopher Luxon says he feels for the victim of Sam Uffindell's attack while at Kings College in the past. He told Checkpoint he believes Uffindell is genuinely contrite, but said it is disappointing Uffindell did not disclose the event to the public before being elected MP for Tauranga. On the selection process, Luxon said "in hindsight we got that wrong, and it should have been made public." When asked if further revelations could mean Uffindell is gone, Luxon said he has been assured the worst incident in Uffindell's past has been disclosed. Luxon said he would not speculate on hypotheticals.
Impact of Educational Leadership Talk Show Episode 91 Hosted by: I. D. III for Isaiah Drone III Panelist: Buddy Thornton, Dr. Francis Mbunya, Dr. Kristen Guillory & Kendricke Bullard Education is healthy for the soul. However, helping students find support systems are vital for their souls and adolescent development. So we are dealt with teaching the whole child—this is why anti-bullying techniques are so important. Not only does bullying at school affect students' emotional and social lives, but it also directly affects their schoolwork and engagement in the classroom, suggests a U.S. study. Researchers found that students who faced bullying for much of their time in school had the most significant risk of low achievement and engagement. Furthermore, kids who were victimized only in earlier years showed gains in self-esteem, school performance, and how much they liked school after bullying. "Nationally, there have been high-profile suicides and school districts trying to implement bully prevention programs," Moving forward, teachers, parents, school administrators, and anyone who knows a school-age kid should understand the side-effects to victims of bullying. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/isaiah-drone-iii/support
