Tom Newton - RADICAL GRACE - The Good Works of Grace - Titus 3: 3-8 by Life Church Sunday messages
Preaching on the healing of the "Daughter of Abraham" (Luke 13:10-17), Sr. Christine Schenk, CSJ offers a reflection on the abundant love and vision of our healing God: "Jesus decries the rigidity of the rule keepers—a perennial affliction of religious leaders of every denomination even to our own day— 'Don't you understand? Freeing this woman, this daughter of Abraham is more important than freeing the ox and ass as your religious rules allow?' The phrase 'Daughter of Abraham' occurs nowhere else in either the Hebrew or Christian scriptures. Jesus is saying 'This woman is a fully equal member of God's own people, and her dignity and well-being must be the priority here.'" Hidden Sister: The Gospel of Luke is the only one that recounts Jesus' healing of a woman who had been bent over for eighteen years (Luke 13:10-17). This passage is assigned to Monday of the Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time. Although Jesus recognizes her as a “daughter of Abraham,” this touching story of her faith and Jesus' willingness to break the Sabbath law in the synagogue and heal her is not proclaimed on any Sunday. Moreover, in 2024, this reading is replaced by the proper readings for the Feast of Saints Simon and Jude. Christine Schenk, CSJ has worked as a nurse midwife to low-income families, a community organizer, an award-winning writer-researcher, and the founding director of an international church reform organization, FutureChurch. Schenk also writes a regular column for the National Catholic Reporter and is one of three nuns featured in the award-winning documentary "Radical Grace."
Rachel Bowyer - RADICAL GRACE - The Offence of Grace - Matthew 20: 1-16 by Life Church Sunday messages
Michelle Flores is sharing her incredible testimony with us today! Michelle has been attending Desert Springs for a little over a year. It is special that this episode is being released at this time as this time last year is when Michelle repented and surrendered her life to Christ. Before you listen, we do want to give a trigger warning for this story as drug abuse, sexual abuse and demonic activity are discussed in this conversation. Michelle grew up in the 90s and early 2000s and describes that her Papa was a positive influence on her life. He introduced her to church and provided a safe space for her. Out of the blue Michelle's Papa was diagnosed with lymphoma and passed away just months later. This rocked Michelle as she was barely 13 years old. Her Papa's death ended up being the catalyst for years and years in darkness. Michelle became involved with drugs and sexual relationships at a very young age and felt completely lost. She even describes experiencing demonic oppression that lasted for many years. She became a mother at 19 and tried to get her life on track by joining the Army. That unfortunately didn't pan out though she did meet the man that would become her husband. More years of darkness ensued, and Michelle had reached the lowest of the low. She had a plan to end her life. Then God showed up in an unexpected way, reminding her of who she really was and that He had grace and healing for her. This might be one of the most radical testimonies we've heard on this podcast! Listen in and be encouraged and reminded that our God is alive and active. Luke Sears - RADICAL GRACE - The Threat to Grace - Romans 7: 1-6 by Life Church Sunday messages
What happens when a life spirals into addiction and then finds redemption through faith and community support? Join us on Road to Redemption as we uncover the compelling journey of Samara Bailey, a remarkable community outreach coordinator. Samara shares her vivid experiences growing up in Southern California during the 1980s, where early encounters with alcohol set the stage for struggles with methamphetamine and complex relationships. Her story is one of resilience, highlighting how faith and spiritual encounters have guided her towards six years of sobriety and a powerful impact on her community.Through a chapter aptly named "Radical Grace," we explore Samara's transformation during a profound spiritual awakening in Okaloosa County Jail, igniting a mission to spread hope both within and beyond the confines of incarceration. Psalm 139 becomes a touchstone for her personal transformation, while the decision to seek rehabilitation at Path of Grace underscores the necessity for lasting freedom from the chains of addiction. Samara's journey exemplifies the extraordinary power of faith to inspire meaningful change and illuminate a path to recovery. As we navigate the persistent journey of recovery, we emphasize the continuous nature of healing and the importance of community support. Encouragement is extended to those grappling with addiction to reach out to trusted "lighthouses" for guidance. We also introduce an upcoming fundraising event at Drive the Coast aimed at enhancing recovery efforts. Our conversation wraps with heartfelt advice to seek spiritual growth through local Bible-centered churches and small groups, alongside a prayer of gratitude for the privilege of sharing these stories of hope and redemption. For more information contact us atrtrdestiny@gmail.com

16 June 2024 | Pastor Evan continues our Summer on the Mount series looking at the topics of anger and lust and how Jesus calls us to lives of radical grace and self-denial based on Matthew 5:21-30 21 “You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not murder; and whoever murders will be liable to judgment.' 22 But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgment; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council; and whoever says, ‘You fool!' will be liable to the hell of fire. 23 So if you are offering your gift at the altar and there remember that your brother has something against you, 24 leave your gift there before the altar and go. First be reconciled to your brother, and then come and offer your gift. 25 Come to terms quickly with your accuser while you are going with him to court, lest your accuser hand you over to the judge, and the judge to the guard, and you be put in prison. 26 Truly, I say to you, you will never get out until you have paid the last penny. 27 “You have heard that it was said, ‘You shall not commit adultery.' 28 But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart. 29 If your right eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body be thrown into hell. 30 And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. For it is better that you lose one of your members than that your whole body go into hell.

We continue to look at our Mission Statement at Community Lutheran Church. We believe in Radical Grace for all. Jesus tells a story about radical grace that I am sure upset people when he told it. The characters in the story were angry too about God's grace!
Today's talk isn't really a sequel the “The Hell Talk” series that started a few weeks back, but it's pretty darn close. Today Jay talks a lot about Radical Honesty. Radical Honesty is something we need if we want to have Radical Grace—the two go hand in hand. The church as a whole stopped the practice of Selling Indulgences, but Jay sometimes wonders if the church still it does, but it's just hidden better. Maybe it takes a different form? But is it all the same? Does our theology have us accidentally creating monsters by how we treat and relate to each other? Jay asks us to look at ourselves and ask: What Have We Become? Is grace amazing? Or have we made it only semi-amazing? Are we showing radical grace to people? Are we relating to them with radical honesty? If we could pluck someone from the tortures of Hell, would we? And if so…does that open up a very messy can of worms for our theology? Today's talk is a good one! It has some people divided, but that's okay. We don't want to push anyone away—but we want the type of hard, honest conversations where sometimes that is unavoidable. Those conversations can be rough, but it's where the change happens. It's where the magic happens. This talk was given on December 3, 2023 from Seattle, Washington.www.facebook.com/revolutionchurchmnwww.revolutionchurch.com/donatewww.youtube.com/revolutionbroadcasting@jaybakker@revolution1994@revolution94 Hosted on Acast. In times of extreme hardship, it can be difficult to remember that outsiders are watching how you handle what you're walking through. The way in which you carry your pain can reflect for good or bad on the faith you hold and the God you follow. Understanding this gives a whole new perspective to how and why you go through painful times - this isn't just about you and your own growth but also about making much of God and putting Him on display to a despairing world. This episode helps widen your view on suffering and remind you that the purposes of God for taking you through challenges are always bigger than you realize. In a world that often measures our worth based on external achievements or appearances, Jesus' message is revolutionary. So, grab your Bibles, and turn to Luke 7:31-50 on today's episode with Pastor David Maestas. In this passage, we see how Jesus' radical grace transforms our perception of ourselves and others and empowers us to extend forgiveness, love, and acceptance to those who are broken and marginalized in our own communities. Pastor David explores the contrasting responses of Simon, the Pharisee, and the woman with the notorious reputation to Jesus' presence and grace. Simon represents a heart that is hardened, judgmental, and resistant to grace, while the woman exemplifies a heart that is broken, humble, and responsive to Jesus' radical grace. The choices made by Simon and the woman reflect the different responses that individuals can have when encountering Jesus' message of love and forgiveness. This week on WADR, our hosts are living up to the aim of the show (conversations with respect and grace) with an Easter special on ... And can grace even be immoral?'The Secret Life of Us' then makes a return, with Michael and Megan sharing episodes in their life when they had grace shown to them. Finally, on 'Through The Wardrobe' our hosts give their take on The Engish, a grizzly western reboot about an aristocrat bent on revenge in the new world. Thanks for listening to our podcast! This week we continue into the season of Lent. We also continue through the Gospel of Matthew as we follow the Narrative Lectionary, and the sermon this week is from Matthew 20:1–16. We were delighted to welcome David Schuster, a dear member of our congregation, to our pulpit to preach, as our pastor was sick. Radical forgiveness. Radical grace. These buzz phrases get thrown around in Christianity, soaking survivors of sexual abuse in shame and letting predators off the hook. Meet my friend and author, Laurel Appel. Her new book, "Radical Grace" is a breath of fresh air. Laurel explains God's grace in a refreshing, honest and engaging way. Her writing made me stop and think, read passages out loud to my husband, and discuss the topic with friends. It's a wonderful book to enjoy, give as a gift to anyone we love, and to have as a permanent addition to our own book collections.Author Bob Goff had this to say about Laurel's book, which says it all: “ With her masterful unpacking of biblical truth and her engaging style of storytelling, Laurel reveals Jesus' answer to living life fully free and motivated by love. We were made by God in love. We were made by the God of love and we were made in the image of that God of love. Stamped with that love in our creation. That love never goes away. That love is absolute and so God's grace to us is absolute.
I know that you are a woman who wants to live with intentionality and presence. You want to show up for your people, and you don't want to miss the good that God offers you right this very minute. And yet… we can't focus on where we are now because we're thinking about that hard conversation we need to have next week, OR we are thinking about how unkind and mean to our mother we were our senior year of high school. So how can we stay present? How do we leave distracted living behind? Jeanne and I talk through How to know you're living a distracted life Whether you can trust your emotions And what it means to be present in your real life.
