It's 2025! Our first new episode in the New Year is one of our favorites! Long time MLB pitcher Scott Feldman, who pitched in the majors for 13 years is our guest and together we wish everyone “Shalomha”! As the only Hawaiian-born Jewish player to ever play in the big leagues, interestingly Shalom and Aloha both mean “hello”, “goodbye” and “peace” in their respective tongues. So why not start the New Year with a new word? It's just part of the fun we had with Felds talking baseball and golf!

Mario Melvin Soto was born July 12th, 1956, in Baní, Dominican Republic. Though very little is known about his upbringing, Mario was known for his fiery temper from an early age. The Cincinnati Reds would go on to sign Mario at the age of 16, citing that the youngster had a solid, hard fastball in the mid-to-low 90’s and a mind-baffling circle change-up. While developing in the minor leagues, Soto would learn a slider and a curveball, but he would rarely use those pitches until much later in his career.

Here at The DadLands, we have a bone to pick with these romantic movies that end with two people who have magically fallen in love by the end. We're supposed to believe that they go on to have a wonderful life together when in reality we know that's when it gets really hard. Take the movie Cocktail. We did. My panel of esteemed funnymen (Michael Bunin, Patrick Keane, and Scott Feldman) break down just how ridiculous it is to think that a bar owner in Manhattan (Tom Cruise) and an artist (Elisabeth Shue) have twins in New York and survive marriage. We give a more honest take on how this story ends. Cocaine Addiction, Affairs, Resentment... it ends horribly. And hilariously funny. Enjoy our next take on parenthood with this innovative concept show.

Who's at the desk next to me? What – a robot? The buzz: “They record our shows, cook our food, play our music, and even run our cars. We just don't see it because these robots don't have a face we can talk to or a butt we can kick. I know four things robots can do right now that will change our lives for the future, and all in a good way. The first is entertainment (done that), the second is grunt work in dangerous places (coming up), third is elderly care, and last but not least is telepresence shopping, tourism, and assistance” (Mark W. Tilden, robot physicist www.theguardian.com). How will robots change the workforce and our ability to earn a living in the future? We'll ask four thought leaders for their take on this: Scott Feldman, Independent Management Consultant; Stephen Reed, Co-Founder at Ai-BlockChain; Kerry Brown, VP Workforce Adoption at SAP; and Jonny Bourgeois, CTO at Ai-BlockChain. Inside this fourth of July edition of "Without a Curse," Alex looks back at the past two games against the Padres, and looks forward to the upcoming west coast trip road trip which will close out the 1st half of the season. Alex talks about John Lackey's dominant performance on Tuesday night, and how he has carried the starting rotation in Clay Buchholz' absence Alex also reexamines the narrative of Lackey being a bad teammate. His teammates have always seemed to like playing with him, even this year when the Red Sox supposedly have a "good clubhouse." What does that say? Jon Lester followed suit with a strong outing on Wednesday night, and Jonny Gomes capped off the evening with a walk-off home run. The Red Sox now have eight walk-off wins on the season. Alex also takes a moment to praise Dustin Pedroia, who is set to make another All Star team this weekend. Nearly every facet of his game has improved since he was a rookie, including his plate discipline. Speaking of improvement, Will Middlebrooks' performance has improved dramatically in Triple A. He had a 3-run HR, a grand slam and 8 RBI in Pawtucket's game last night. How close is Middlebrooks to returning to the big leagues? In the "Around the League" segment, Alex looks at the AL East standings, and discusses the Orioles' acquisition of starting pitcher Scott Feldman. Alex feels the Orioles paid too much for Feldman, who projects as a back of the rotation starter in the AL East. The legitimacy of Yaisel Puig's All Star candidacy, the significance of Homer Bailey's no-hitter, the awesomeness of Manny's return to MLB and more is touched upon as well. Email Alex at areimer@bu.edu, and follow him on Twitter @AlexReimer1.
