Our Guest Drew Storen is a former Major League Baseball veteran of 8 seasons. Storen was drafted out of Stanford University by the Washington Nationals in the 1st round of the 2009 MLB Draft. He made his MLB debut with the Nationals in 2010 and quickly became a key figure in their bullpen, serving as their closer for several seasons.  Storen played for several teams during his career, including the Washington Nationals, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners, and Cincinnati Reds. Storen retired from professional baseball after the 2020 season. After his baseball career, Drew Storen founded the Field of Dreams Whiskey Company, a brand that distills the actual corn from the Field of Dreams movie site in Dyersville, Iowa. The company focuses on connecting whiskey and baseball lovers alike through nostalgia and premium bourbon. What You'll Learn in This Episode How Drew's bullpen mindset helped him thrive as an entrepreneur The story behind Field of Dreams Whiskey and how it came to life Why asking questions and learning from others is a competitive advantage How delayed gratification shows up in business vs. baseball The role of design, storytelling, and nostalgia in building a premium brand Why being coachable and resilient translates across industries How to trust your gut and make decisions under pressure The power of authenticity, humor, and creativity in leadership Resources & Links Drew Storen Website: https://drinkfieldofdreams.com/ LinkedIn: Drew Storen Instagram: @drinkfieldofdreams Check out this PLAYER SERIES BOTTLE LOOKUP and look for your player! His dad, Mark Patrick (Storen) is a celebrity in Indianapolis (and nationally) for his work on television and the syndicated Bob & Tom radio show. He is also, related to one of the great sportscasters ever; Hannah Storm. But DREW STOREN made his own way by being a virtually unhittable pitcher in high school and at Stanford before pitching in the Majors. In his second year in the big leagues, Storen became the closer for the upstart Washington Nationals and saved 43 games. His love for the game and his 13 year major league career eventually drove him to the fields where dreams are made- in Iowa. There, with his partners, he now bottles whiskey and bourbon (whiskey) with the iconic "Field of Dreams" brand. How does a kid from Indiana go from pitcher to businessman with THAT brand? You'll just have to listen and find out.

There are only 22,860 bottles, ONE for each player in the HISTORY of the major leagues. Soft corn, fruit, oak, and a touch of spice. It's young, but worth the price of entry.

Drew Storen is one of only 6% of athletes who sign a deal to play baseball to make into the “Big Leagues”. As a relief pitcher he has played for the Washington Nationals, Toronto Blue Jays, Seattle Mariners and the Cincinnati Reds. Currently he is rehabbing successful Tommy John Surgery and hopes to be pitching again in 2019. He sits down with me and talks about how he beat the odds and become one of the 6%. Find out what his best experience to date has been in the majors. Learn what city is his favorite to pitch in, favorite ballpark and what “other” famous athlete was at Stanford the same time as Drew. An ambitious young man learn about his plans for after his career on the field is over. And with all of my podcasts we then venture off into some other areas of interest. Drew happens to be a big car guy. So of course we talk cars! He enjoys painting, on canvas, not houses! He also happens to have a fascination with the military. A chance encounter with a baseball fan who lived in his neighborhood while in D.C. fed that interest. The fan turned out to be the legendary Navy pilot Chuck “Heater” Heatley. The F-14 pilot, Top Gun instructor, and photographer was an inspiration for the movie Top Gun. (Check out Heaters book, “Cutting Edge” it came out in 1986 but has amazing shots from his fighter jet.) Drew has even flown an F-16 simulator! From here we talk memorabilia and his treasured collectibles. And I couldn't resist asking him if he does impressions like his famous dad, sportscaster and former Bob and Tom Show member Mark Patrick. All in all a fascinating talk with a talented, interesting, and likable young man. Twitter: @DrewStoren
