Alex Meyer is a former American competition swimmer who specialized in open water and long-distance swimming. He won a gold medal at the 2010 FINA World Open Water Swimming Championships in the 25-kilometer open water event. He was a member of the 2012 United States Olympic team, and placed tenth in the 10-kilometer open water event at the 2012 Summer Olympics. Alex won his final race before retirement, the 62nd Traversée internationale du lac St-Jean held on July 30, 2016.We talk about Alex's origin story with swimming and what drew him to open water vs. pool competition swimming. Penn State, which won its 60th dual in a row, was No. 1 for the 34th straight week, while Army West Point entered the poll at No. 24, and Campbell and Purdue entered the poll, tied at No. 25. It’s the first time in school history Campbell has been ranked in the dual meet-based coaches poll, which dates back over 50 years.  Davenport University in NCAA Division II announced it would become an associate member of the Great Lakes Valley Conference in wrestling along with the men’s lacrosse program. While Division II qualifies through regionals, there are a number of conferences that sanction wrestling - wrestling members in the conference include Bellarmine, Drury, Indianapolis, Lindenwood, Maryville, McKendree and Ouachita Baptist. I’m not going to try to pronounce. Sure, Hyrshchanka, I can say that, but Dehydrochloromethyl-testosterone, not so easily. Georgia’s Iakobi Kajaia is now the European Games gold medalist.  The Cedar Rapids Gazette reports a former Xavier High School wrestler and current University of Iowa student died on Monday according to an email distributed by the UI campus community. Jeff Vipond was a two-year captain of the Cedar Rapids Xavier High wrestling team.  College journalism might be struggling some places, but at the University of Pennsylvania, it looks pretty fair to me, at least, from a wrestling standpoint. The Daily Pennsylvanian features freshman Michael Colaiocco, who’s already making an impact in Philly. The Knight Report, a Rivals-based Rutgers news site has posted that Peter Lipari, a 141-pound NCAA qualifier for the Scarlet Knights last season, has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal. He recently lost his wrestle-off to highly touted freshman JoJo Aragona. Mike Rizzo and Kris Kline always said Alex Meyer had potential, and the Washington Nationals’ 2011 1st Round pick showed his former organization what he had in a 7-0 win for the Los Angeles Angels tonight in Anaheim. Gio Gonzalez struggled with his command early, and gave up a big home run late, giving up four of the seven runs the Nats surrendered as the Nationals' six-game winning streak came to an end with just the second shutout loss of the season for the NL East division leaders.
