This week, as always, we had masses of #NewMusic in our playlist! An eclectic mix of original, intelligent, melodic, grown-up songs - #electronic, #rnb, #jazz, #blues and #acoustic. And mostly from artists who you have not heard of - yet! Our Luvva Cover, this week, was just sublime. The song is The Kiss, written and recorded in 1973 by the tragic figure of Judee Sill. She had a troubled childhood, became addicted to drugs and eventually died of an overdose but she wrote the most wonderful songs - championed in the UK by the great John Peel and Bob Harris - and still influences songwriters today. The cover version only came out on Tuesday of this week and is by the very special artist Aoibheann Carey-Philpott. She's based in Cork, is a wonderful songwriter and musician in her on right but is also a supreme interpreter of a song. Warum die Idee, Hiphop sei „MultiKulit und Love and Peace“, laut Sebastian ein „mitteleuropäischer Sozialpädagogen-Gedanke“ ist, ob Gesellschaftskritik nun Teil des Hiphop ist oder nicht und warum heute auf eine Demo gehen sich nicht mehr „autonom-light“ anfühlt, wird hier ausgiebig besprochen.

Mit ihrem Buch »Könnt ihr uns hören? Eine Oral History des deutschen Rap« waren Davide Bortot und Jan Wehn Anfang März auf Lesereise. In jeder Stadt mit dabei: lokalspezifische Special Guests, die noch mal ganz genau Rede und Antwort standen. In München nahmen gleich zwei Deutschrap-Urgesteine auf der Bühne Platz. Zum einen Main-Concept-Mitglied und Freestyle-Chef David P., zum anderen Sepalot, ehemals Produzent und DJ von Blumentopf und mittlerweile Kopf seines eigenen Quartetts. Gemeinsam sprachen die vier über die Ursprünge der Münchener HipHop-Szene und die Entwicklung in den 90er Jahren. Wir veröffentlichen an dieser Stelle nur einen Auszug aus dem Interview, da uns gegen Ende die Technik im Stich gelassen hat. Sorry dafür! Ende 2016 fand ein mehr als wichtiger Abschnitt in Sepalots Leben nach 25 Jahren ein Ende – Blumentopf gaben ihr letztes Konzert im Müchener Zenith. Ein Jahr später hat er im BACKSPIN Podcast über die dazugehörigen Gründe und sein Leben nach der Bandtrennung gesprochen. Dazu gehören nicht nur die beiden im Jahr 2017 erschienenen Solo-Platten „Hide“ und „Seek“, sondern auch Arbeiten für befreundete Künstler, das Dasein als Surfer-Testimonial sowie seine Verbindung zu Christian Bruhn. Letzterer gilt als einer der bedeutendsten deutschen Komponisten und Musikproduzenten, der sich unter anderem für die (Film-) Musik von Captain Future oder Wickie und die starken Männer verantwortlich zeigt.

In Sepalots Sunday Joint hören wir natürlich viele Songs seines neuen Album. Der Mix ist im Vergleich zu anderen Tapes aus unserer Serie durchaus schwungvoller als gewohnt.
