This episode is Part Three in our exploration of Ministry Time and brings us to the end of Season 5. Here we recognise the contribution of the Vineyard to Evangelism and the Altar Call bracket following the message in church. Yet we also acknowledge that this deconstruction of Evangelism does not go deep enough, it does not bring a focus on the numinous, on the manifest presence of God, into our culture of doing church or practicing spirituality. We'd like to thank everyone who currently supports the Urban Mystic. We don't charge for anything we do or put oursleves and our material behind a paywall. Hi everyone, Welcome to the Advent 2020 miniseries: "who is my neighbour?" This is a new miniseries based on the Parable of the Good Samaritan from Luke's Gospel, chapter 10 verse 25 - 37. This is the main solo episode of this series. In it I go through the text in detail and have a look at what this particular set of narratives offers us as we grapple with the question of "'How can I be more neighbourly?". There are three further episodes in this miniseries, two of which have guest/s joining me in conversation around questions that have arisen as I have wrestled with this particular piece of text. Timothy Victor, from Urban Mystic, joins me to discuss the question of institutional religion raised by the Priest and Levite in the parable; and Dr Dion Forster, from Stellenbosch University, and John Van De Laar, from wwww.evofaith.com, join me to discuss our digital lives and how we can practice being more neighbourly online. The final session is a short solo wrap up looking at Jesus as our neighbour. Listen out for my surprise guest on this episode - Chrissie the Christmas Cricket. You get 10 points if you spot him/her first. I'd love to hear your thoughts or comments on this miniseries. Hi everyone, In this episode of the Advent 2020 miniseries I am joined by my good friend Timothy Victor, from Urban Mystic, to talk though the theme of institutional religion, which I see Jesus raises via the characters of the Priest and Levite. We talk through the shortcomings of institutional religion and what we think are the antidotes to the callouses that can form over the dynamic present tense reality of relating to God, ourselves and others. I look forward to your response to this episode. You can reach me on either: steve@the-way.co.za or https://www.facebook.com/TheosHumanityEnvironmentWay Peace, Steve --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/steve-carter08/message
This is our fifth bonus episode and the conclusion to Season 2 of the podcast of the Urban Mystic. The final three guests all deconstruct as persona and people. Yet there is a depth in their sharing as individuals no longer speaking on behalf or for a group. This is the human face of deconstruction, the felt depth of living, and the vibrant and lively spirituality of those wandering in the urban desert. Dwayne “Saint Orbin” Bennett, multi-instrumentalist, singer, songwriter, producer and creative entrepreneur, has become one of the most respected and influential musicians in gospel, hip-hop, R&B and beyond. But he didn't get there without going through the same struggles and frustrations that face every creative. Having worked with Yolanda Adams, Donnie McClurkin, Kim Burrell, Urban Mystic, Flo Rida, Cris Cab, KING/DNA MusicBoyz, Kanye West, Chaka Khan, Rick Ross, Trick Daddy, Miami Mass Choir, Michael McDonald and many others, Dwayne has reached the heights of success as a producer and session musician, earned from years of mentoring and training from his musical family. A native of Connecticut, now resident of South Florida, Dwayne also applied the knowledge and experience he gained as a young church musician, eventually becoming a core member of the Upper Room Ministries of Miami Gardens music ministry, (formerly Cooper Temple COGIC). The church's band, known popularly as “The Corner”, consisted of top musicians and gained nationwide attention in the early days of YouTube for their innovative musical arrangements and praise breaks. In this revealing discussion on The God and Gigs Show, he opens up about the frustrations and obstacles that he overcame to become a highly successful musician on the touring circuit, how he handled tough situations in music ministry, and how his attitude has shifted as he's branched out into other areas of the entertainment industry. In this episode, Dwayne reveals: The essential skills he learned as a young musician that allowed him to master several different roles How he handled feeling ‘stuck' as a church musician when he didn't see progress musically or spiritually, and why you can't simply ‘jump ship' when transitioning from a ministry How being open to spiritual leadership helped him grow as an artist The lessons he learned from his first experiences in the recording studio The key elements of working with high-level artists as a musical director How he is pivoting from being only a touring and session musician to producing his own content How to develop the right relationships in the industry and find the right mentorsThe importance of valuing relationships that have stood the test of time Get connected with our guest:Dwayne's website - SaintOrbin.comFollow Dwayne on Instagram Follow Saint Orbin on FacebookFollow Saint Orbin on YouTubeWatch Dwayne's new Web Series “Off Stage Conversations”Read Dwayne's interview in God And Gigs: Succeed as a Musician without Sacrificing your FaithMore Resources for Artists:Learn about The 4 Questions you need to ask before going Full-Time in Arts and EntertainmentDownload our free Checklist to radically improve your livestreaming concerts Make your LiveStream an OMG! In a world full of turmoil and unrest, Passionate breaks forth with a sound of sheer comfort and ease. Passionate's sound has been known to comfort the heart and strengthen the listener with encouragement and hope for tomorrow. She has been writing music & poetry for as long as she remembers, and has fond memories of writing poetry & songs for her friends and family. During this phase in her early life, she coined the name of Passionate because of the passion and love she intertwined with the lyrics and melodies of her songs.Born May 22, 1982 in a small town of Butler Ga, Passionate soared over her small beginnings and took on a big journey in becoming known as an American soul, pop, poetic singer-songwriter, and guitarist. She has a very unique, but captivating sound that merge emotions, love, hope, and aspirations into the ears of the listeners. Coming from a background of disappointment, heartbreak, and loss Passionate learned how to place her pain in her music and chemically alter it into encouragement for the listener. In hopes of understanding people better to relay her message, she graduated from Augusta State University with her Bachelor's degree in Psychology and Sociology. Then in 2015, she graduated with her Master's degree in Professional Counseling. It is Passionate's hope that her music will be able to capture the heart of the masses through her understanding of their personal struggles. In 2007, she was awarded CSRA spoken word poet of the year. Also, in the selfsame year she began coaching and teaching the at-risk youth in the community poetry and drama. After many years of community performances and volunteering, Passionate decided to get underneath the management of Rodney Tillman of Tillmanagement to direct her business and music affairs. After she made that decision, everything she imagined began to be placed in motion. Underneath Tillmanagement, she dropped her first project, "The Journey-Love, God, and Relationships". This project open major doors for her. She was able to open for artists such as Chrisette Michele, Urban Mystic, Mary Mary, and travel on the BET Music Matters Tours opening for Marsha Ambrosius, Anthony David, and Melanie Fiona. After giving birth to her son in 2012, Passionate was released from former management and was on her own. On her own she dropped her second project "Stronger", which instantly became a community hit. She also recorded her first music video which was exposed to a greater audience by a retweet from world renowned Bishop TD Jakes and supported by Grammy Award winner lead singer of All 4 One Delious Kennedy. Passionate continues to write and create new songs, collab with other artists, and perform on stages. She also continues to pursue her passion and make music for the world to hear.
