The lives of great people such as Sundar Singh is unthinkable and unlivable without a practical theology of God with us here and now. People throughout history have had "close encounters" with God and Dallas Willard thinks that these serve a very important role in teaching us about where we should expect God. In this episode Michael Stewart Robb explains why we shouldn't expect to live from them alone. BE INFORMED and PRAY for us better by signing up for the Sanctus newsletter: https://sanctus.institute/

We are honoured to share the life of Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji Khalsa Bhindranwale. Sant Ji holds strong ties with saints we are all familiar with, such as Sant Giani Gurbachan Singh Ji, being their teacher & spiritual inspiration. Although commonly associated with Sant Giani Jarnail Singh Ji, the term 'Bhindranwale' traces back to Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji, as this village was their place of birth. Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji's father, Baba Khajaan Singh Ji used to live at this asthaan (place) of Bhindran (where Gurdwara Akhand Parkash now stands) and not only farmed, but planted the seeds of Sikhi for many Mahapursh to come. In this podcast, Giani Jivanpal Singh Ji shares the early life of Sant Giani Sundar Singh Ji and the immense amount of Vidhia (spiritual knowledge) they were able to acquire from many Saint Scholars. The immense Bhagti (spiritual practice) of Sant Ji's mother and father and the teachings they gave to their son are explored. The amazing life of Sant Ji's teacher, Sant Baba Bishan Singh Ji has also been covered. Tune in for many beautiful stories of Guru Sahib Ji giving Partakh Darshan (divine glimpse) to their Gursikhs! As always a big thank you to Giani Jivanpal Singh Ji for taking the time out to research the lives of such great Gurmukhs and sharing this with the wider sangat, so we can always feel inspired to walk the path of the saints.#Sikh #Podcast #Spirituality————————————————

Theologian and New Testament scholar, F.F. Bruce, tells the story of Sundar Singh, a Tibetan Christian who was likewise freed miraculously from a prison. For preaching of the gospel, he was thrown into a well, and a cover set over it and securely locked. He would be left in the well until he died, and he could see the bones and rotting corpses of those who had already perished in there. On the third night of his imprisonment, he heard someone unlocking the cover of the well and removing it. A voice told him to take hold of the rope that was being lowered. Sundar was grateful that the rope had a loop he could put his foot in, because he had injured his arm in the fall down into the well. He was raised up, the cover was replaced and locked, but when he looked to thank his rescuer he could find no one. When morning came, he went back to the same place he was arrested and started preaching again. News of the preaching came to the official who had him arrested, and Sundar was brought before him again. When the official said someone must have gotten the key and released him, they searched for the key – and found it on the official’s own belt. In this message we learn how to “Build Your Tel” by examining a similar miraculous escape from prison and how it reveals the power to escape any ordeal you are trapped in!

-¿Qué he hecho? He destruido un libro sagrado. No había nada.

Starting off with some talkback! A listener responds to our election discussion and why is it that people can start from the same place of Jesus and yet move in such very different directions politically. Also, how does the future hope of a new humanity, of that future kingdom of God, affect our present action and movement in the world? Following this, the pastors get deep on a huge topic around Circle of Hope, the idea that dialogue is important and protects the gravity of our community. Our dialogue helps keep us together more than simply a set of doctrines or ideas about God, many of which were formulated in their time and place to bind people to community. Not everyone, especially now, is into a strict set of beliefs, and often there are many who have doubts, live in a gray space addressed better by listening and dialogue. A pastor, for instance, can have as many questions about faith as anyone else can! We need conversation, faith, love, Jesus and his grace to hold us. Lastly, some Show and Tell: adoring the stars and planets, discovering our spiritual ancestors, the Prophet Elijah and hope, and the pastoral wisdom of Dave Chappelle. //Notes// Jacob’s Trouble “These Thousand Hills” (1988): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LVJfTG5I6Io Circle of Hope’s proverbs: https://circleofhope.net/proverbs Robert Gates’ Passion for Leadership (2016): https://www.amazon.com/Passion-Leadership-Lessons-Change-Service/dp/0307949648 Council of Chalcedon: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Council_of_Chalcedon “Lord, I believe! This is part 2 of the story of Sadhu Sundar Singh. We begin when he is just 16 years old and has committed himself to living as a sadhu.Sundar Singh was born into a Sikh family in Punjab state in northern India. He was educated by his mother in their religion but also attended a Christian school to learn English. After his mother's death when he was just fourteen he was very angry and felt life had no meaning. But he was soon dramatically converted to Christ and resolved, despite intense opposition, to preach the gospel to his own people.(Recorded 23 July 2017)

Season: Stories from the Bottom Speaker: Rachel Sensenig Location: 2212 S. Broad St. About Talk: Sundar Singh was a despairing young teenager in India asking for a revelation of God when Jesus revealed himself to him. He renounced his Sikh and Hindu traditions, to the horror of his family, and gave himself fully to the love of God. He donned the yellow robe of a Indian holy man, a Sadhu, to share the love of Christ everywhere he could. He leaves us the wisdom of a Christian mystic who can speak to the anxieties of our 21st century life.

SHOW NOTES FOR EPISODE 069: Seeing Jesus Pt. 5 Welcome to Episode 069 of the “Awakening with Nathanael Wolf” podcast and radio broadcast. Did you know that Jesus promised every Christian that they could see Him before they die? Jesus said, “Soon you won’t see Me any longer, but then, after a little while, you will see Me in a new way.” (John 16:16 TPT) In this episode, you’ll discover: The Holy Spirit is not content for you to not have living contact with the living Christ. Seeing Jesus is one way the Holy Spirit gives us living contact with the living Christ. Living contact is necessary for a living faith. How the spiritual sight of Jesus is gained. Notable episode quotes: “The Disciple,—O Master, Fountain of life! Why dost Thou hide Thyself from those that adore Thee, and dost not rejoice the eyes of them that long to gaze upon Thee? The Master,—1. My true child, true happiness depends not upon the sight of the eyes, but comes through spiritual vision, and depends upon the heart. In Palestine thousands looked upon Me, but all of them did not thus obtain true happiness. By mortal eyes only those things can be perceived that are mortal, for eyes of flesh cannot behold an immortal God and spiritual beings. For instance, you yourself cannot see your own spirit, therefore how can you behold its Creator? But when the spiritual eyes are opened, then you can surely see Him who is Spirit, (John iv. 24), and that which you now see of Me you see not with eyes of flesh, but with the eyes of the spirit. If, as you say, thousands of people saw Me in Palestine then were all their spiritual eyes opened, or did I Myself become mortal? The answer is, No! I took on a mortal body so that in it I might give a ransom for the sins of the world; and when the work of salvation was completed for sinners (John xix. 30), then that which was immortal transfigured what was mortal into glory. Therefore after the resurrection only those were able to see Me who had received spiritual sight (Acts x. 40,41).” -Sundar Singh in “At the Master’s Feet” Download the Sent Ones Unlimited app: The Sent Ones Unlimited app is the best way to listen to the podcast. Season: The Subversive Baby Jesus Speaker: Rod White Location: 2309 N. Broad St. About Talk: Our pastors still follow one of the traditions of Advent in which the readings point to certain people in the story, like John the Baptist on this day. He needs more airplay and we need to be like him. The word of God came to us in Philadelphia in the wilderness of postmodernity and vacuous expressions of the church. The same Spirit that moved John, Odo and Sundar brought us together That Spirit also isolated us in ways. While it might seem normal to us, the reforms we instituted make us loved and resented in the BIC. A man is flying in from Kentucky to consult with us next month. But our bishops are never sure we are really team players. We don’t get along with Trump Christians, we ordain women, We welcome gay people, accept cohabiting people as married, we listen instead of fighting and think reconciliation is more important than being right. We love psychotherapy and believe black lives matter. We abhor war and suspect guns. We love immigrants, we talk about Jesus all the time to liberals and we celebrate Advent, practice contemplative prayer and don’t put men or anyone else at the top of a pyramidical structure. It goes on. We are ambitious. We might go to your monastery or go to Tibet and tell you what God showed us. We might follow a rule, wear a yellow robe or baptize the Son of God right in your backyard. So we might get as isolated as John the Baptist, feared like Odo of Cluny or thrown in a dry well like Sundar Singh. That’s Advent. The unwelcome wind of change, reform that often isolates the reformers while they are bringing people together in Christ. What is the word that Jesus wants to get out there now? Any John the Baptists in the wilderness out there? I know there are. Do not let anyone shut you up. Tell the truth no matter what it costs, love them even if they hate you. Give them what they need even if they throw it back in your face. The message is old. It came as a variation in the 900s and 1800s. But it always has a unique slant. What are you feeling? What does the wind of the Spirit blow into your mind and heart? Trust it!
Erlo Stegen delivers a heart searching message on the person of Christ. Woe to us who have God's Word and are not transformed to hear and obey it. Sundar Singh said that salt dissolved in water may disappear but it doesn't cease to exist. We may be sure of its presence by tasting the water. Likewise the indwelling Christ may be realised by His love He imparts to us.
