We love adding communities to our StoryTellers Live circle! Today you'll hear from our newest gathering near Atlanta, Georgia (West Cobb). Listen as Tamara Estes shares the challenging stories of losing both her son and her husband in separate instances. Grief, loss, and tragedy seemed commonplace in her world for many years. But instead of living in a state of “why,” Tamara learned to trust and believe—and she always trusted in the Lord to provide. Ultimately, God was constant, and His promised presence made all the difference. In this episode you will learn: - It's not our place to ask “why,” it's our place to trust and believe. (Isaiah 55:8-9) - God is always available as a constant strength for you. - God never promised you an easy life, but He did promise He would walk with you and carry you when needed. In 2009 the Christian band Casting Crowns produced a song called “Praise You in This Storm.” I remember sharing with my prayer partners how that song was difficult to sing. It was making a stand to praise God before the storms of life blow us away. The reality of life is that everyone, whether they are a believer or not, will have storms. The overriding difference is that those who belong to Christ will have His presence with them through the storms. While it's better to have Christ with us than to be alone, it's still hard, especially when the trials and tragedies are all around us. How can we still praise God in the storm? P – Place more of our focus on Christ than our trial. (1 Peter 5:7)When we are going through something difficult, it's tempting to think about it all the time. Yet if we cast this burden on Jesus, He will remove the weight from our shoulders. R – Remain faithful where God has called us. (1 Corinthians 4:2)It's important that we keep doing what we know is right to do. If we pull away from our calling, we set ourselves up for Satan's attacks of discouragement. A – Accept that we are not alone in this trial. (Hebrews 13:5)Sometimes in the thick of the storm, we feel like the only ones going through difficulty. However, many believers have gone before us; and God will never leave us. I – Instill hope in our hearts through the word of God. (Isaiah 55:11)God's word is true and real; and it will never fail. We have renewed hope every day if we meditate and embrace His word. S – Seek the grace of God to give us strength to press on. (2 Corinthians 12:9)God's grace is what we need every moment of our lives. Through His grace and mercy we can do all things through Christ, which gives us strength. E – Expect the Lord to keep His promises. (Joshua 21:45)God is not like us, and He will never lie. The Lord keeps every single one of His promises to His children—we must have faith in Him. PRAYER Dear Lord, sometimes it feels like this storm is going to destroy me. Yet I praise You anyway because I know that You have me safely in Your arms. In Jesus' name, amen. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/felicia721/message

This talk is for mature audiences. It's nuanced, layered, cumulative and like a wave. It's intended to deliver a contextual orientation to this subject. It's not necessary that anyone agree with the content. It's intended to ignite conversation and expand the realm of insight, wisdom and clarity. At this unsettling time in history, where conflict and anxiety is at an all time high, with diverging perspectives on just about everything from climate to gender; its' really easy to become polarized and fall prey to mean-spirited reflexive personal attacks. In fact, the entire spectrum of dialogue has eroded into conflicts that shut down discussion, rather than expand important and much needed dialogue. For the first time, Kim Greenhouse, who has produced and hosted over 420 segments of It's Rainmaking Time! with best-selling authors, heads of industry, change agents, creative artists, entrepreneurs and visionaries, personally steps into the space and addresses the most taboo aspects of the realm & brings expanded understanding and offers up clear distinctions between biological gender and gender identity. While it appears that by not staying within the current circulating social narrative about Gender, one has to literally be brave to even speak, as the mere discussion of and about this subject is wrought with highly charged and often acrimonious consequences, like being de-platformed on the internet, having ones name and reputation destroyed, access to doing business shut off and people have personally received death threats. Kim does everything she can to Speak the Unspeakable in The Eye of This Storm. We hope that you share this Special Commentary far and wide and that it opens up discussions that are long overdue and important. Enjoy the Show! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lKaQJyMzzmo

You're familiar with the stages of grief – you know the Acceptance stage, but what does that even mean? Because it's the last stage of grief, it seems to be the place everyone wants (like a finish line) to get to and be rid of this painful grief. But is that what acceptance means? In today's episode, I'll share what ‘acceptance' means to a Christian, how to know if you are there and how to get there if you aren't. Our Favorite Things is the title of our summer series. The Elders and staff have selected a favorite passage of scripture and sermons are based on each of those passages. Today’s message is from John 16:25-33, the favorite passage of Youth Ministry Director Travis Dierker. As Jesus is nearing His crucifixion and death on the cross, John records some of Jesus’ final words to His disciples regarding three things: faith, hope and love.As we must have faith and trust in Jesus, He provides us with hope for the future, but most of all He provides us love. “Take heart for I have overcome the world” provides us with peace, hope and love. What a great reminder for all of us during any trial or tribulation! One of my favorite Christian songs is “Praise You in This Storm”—it is such a great reminder that we must trust in Him and praise Him during the tough times, knowing that in the end, He has given us faith, hope and love.

She brings her history as a struggling young writer in the big city to her latest novel Memories of the Future.
In this week’s Book Club podcast, Sam talks to the 'demon dog' of American letters, James Ellroy — whose latest book is This Storm. In a wide-ranging and somewhat NSFW conversation, they talk about misquoting Auden, why Ellroy hates Orson Welles, how he maps out the byzantine plots of his novels, why as a recovering addict he fills his books with pill-poppers and juice heads, why he thinks he's the best crime writer living — and what his dad’s '20-inch wang' had to do with Rita Hayworth. The Book Club, what used to be known as Spectator Books, is a series of literary interviews and discussions on the latest releases in the world of publishing, from poetry through to physics. Presented by Sam Leith, The Spectator's Literary Editor. Hear past episodes here (https://audioboom.com/dashboard/4905582) .

Known as the demon dog of American literature, Ellroy has won numerous awards for his Los Angeles Quartet novels, ‘The Black Dahlia’, ‘The Big Nowhere’, ‘LA Confidential’ and ‘White Jazz’. Now he has returned to LA with a new quartet; ‘This Storm’, the second novel in his latest series, was released earlier this year. He sits down with Augustin Macellari to talk corruption and collusion, the LA of his past, and why he writes.
Craig Wasson mans the mic like a jazz poet in this second installment of Ellroy’s L.A. WWII trilogy that began with PERFIDIA. The audiobook sizzles with the slang and accents of wartime Los Angeles in a story full of murder, missing gold, and fire set against a backdrop of war and racist paranoia. Wasson delivers Ellroy’s lyricism while also presenting the harsh language of humanity's underbelly. Published by Random House Audio. Read the full review of THIS STORM at audiofilemagazine.com. Philip Dodd is in conversation with the American author James Ellroy, whose books include LA Confidential and his latest, This Storm, part of his ongoing project to write a novelistic history of the USA from 1941 to 1972. As he tells Philip Dodd, in a conversation that ranges from Calvinism to Chandler, Count Basie to late Beethoven: "As my literary sensibility becomes more patriotic, more conservatism, more religious, more sentimental, more fraternal, I find an era to write about where I can look back and live it and so This Storm is very much about alliance and friendship and belief and ideology in the early days of World War II and my good guys - who are always the cops ... and these folks are always going to one of two places, to carouse, to booze, to plot, to talk of sandbagging unfriendly politicians and to flirt and conduct their adulterous love affairs." Producer: Torquil MacLeod
LA Quartet author James Ellroy teaches Claire the right way to say his new book title This Storm, Andrea Goldsmith on her latest novel Invented Lives, and Trent Dalton on the phenomenal success of Boy Swallows Universe.
On today's episode of Loud & Clear, John Kiriakou and Walter Smolarek (sitting in for Brian Becker) are joined by Jacqueline Luqman, the co-editor-in-chief of Luqman Nation, and the host of the Facebook livestream “Coffee, Current Events & Politics” Thursdays at 9 p.m., joins the show.On today’s regular Friday segment covering the upcoming midterm elections, John and Walter talk about races in South Carolina, Ohio, and Florida. “The Progress of This Storm” is a new and powerful book by Andreas Malm. In it, he addresses the environmental crisis caused by climate change, its roots in the system of capitalism, and how humanity can step back from the brink. Andreas Malm, who teaches Human Ecology at Lund University in Sweden and is the author of “Fossil Capital,” “Iran on the Brink,” and most recently “The Progress of This Storm,” joins the show. The trade war with China widened today, as President Trump announced new 25 percent tariffs on $50 billion of Chinese products. He also said that he’s considering tariffs on another $16 billion worth of Chinese goods. The Chinese retaliated almost immediately. Brian and John speak with Jude Woodward, the author of the new book “The US vs China: Asia's new Cold War?”Fallout continues over the release yesterday of the FBI Inspector General’s report with President Trump pouncing on the finding of insubordination on the part of former FBI director James Comey, calling Comey and former deputy FBI director Andrew McCabe “scum” and saying that the FBI under Barack Obama was “a den of thieves.” The IG also found that Comey used a private email account for government business. Commentators are saying today that the report will likely only further polarize the country. Dan Kovalik, a human rights and labor lawyer who is the author of “The Plot to attack Iran,” joins the show. The leader of the Pakistani Taliban has reportedly been killed in a U.S. airstrike.Mullah Fazlullah became leader of the group in 2013, and his death would mark another turn as the war drags on in Afghanistan and Northwest Pakistan. Marvin Weinbaum, the Scholar-in-Residence and director of the Middle East Institute’s Center for Pakistan and Afghanistan Studies, joins Brian and John. The House of Representatives is considering what it calls a “compromise” bill that would give visas to Dreamers, those people who were brought to the United States as children with their undocumented parents. The bill, though, is a disaster. It would not allow any path to citizenship for Dreamers and makes it a crime to earn less than 125 percent of the federal poverty level. The bill would eliminate the green card lottery, cut family immigration to the bone, and virtually end asylum request approvals. Angie Kim, the community engagement & advocacy coordinator for NAKASEC (the National Korean American Service & Education Consortium), joins the show. The hosts continue the regular segment of the worst and most misleading headlines. Walter and John speak with Steve Patt, an independent journalist whose critiques of the mainstream media have been a feature of his blog Left I on the News, and Loud & Clear producer Nicole Roussell.
