Originally premiered on YouTube on January 15, 2025, this episode of East Coast DNA is now available on Spotify and all major podcast platforms for the first time.In this conversation, host Darcy Walsh sits down with Prince Edward Island folksinger and songwriter Shane Pendergast to discuss his album Winter Grace, released January 17, 2025. Shane comes from a long line of PEI storytellers and musicians, and his work reflects the landscapes, history, and community traditions that shaped him. Raised performing in small halls across the Island, he developed a deep connection to Maritime folk music and the songwriting of Gordon Lightfoot and Stompin' Tom Connors.After studying Documentary Filmmaking and English at York University, Shane spent several years performing in Toronto before returning to PEI in 2020. He founded the Jack Pine Folk Club, a monthly gathering inspired by 1960s coffeehouses that has since become a vibrant hub for traditional music and poetry. His 2021 album Second Wind won Contemporary Roots Album of the Year at the Music PEI Awards, and his 2023 live album The House Before the Bridge earned an ECMA nomination.In this episode, Shane discusses the creation of Winter Grace, the musicians who joined him on the project, and the stories behind the songs. Jon Henriksson is a Stockholm-based double bassist and composer who has become one of the leading voices in the contemporary Scandinavian jazz scene. Born in 1996 in Gothenburg, his path to the bass started when a high school big band director gave him just two months to learn the instrument for a Christmas concert. His 2023 debut album Harmonia placed second in Orkesterjournalen's Golden Album readers' poll, and his new album Shapeshifter drops March 20th, 2026, featuring a quartet with pianist Rasmus Sørensen, drummer Jonas Bäckman, and saxophonist Karl-Martin Almqvist. In this conversation, Jon talks about discovering bird watching and nature photography during the pandemic as a counterbalance to musical life. He shares his compositional process of improvising at the piano and layering ideas on his phone, the Swedish folk high school system that's created a vibrant jazz pipeline to Stockholm, and the jam sessions he hosts twice weekly at Stompin in Old Town. Jon explains how he writes music drawing from Brazilian influences, folk, and pop alongside jazz traditions, and why he wanted Shapeshifter to give space for his favorite musicians to express their personalities.  We talk with singer, songwriter, playwright, activist, and author Tara MacLean on this special episode of Sisters in Song.  It was such a pleasure talking to Tara about becoming your own inner-nurturer, meditation to get herself back in tune, and all things music.  Canadian singer/songwriter Tara MacLean has been an internationally renowned and award winning recording and touring artist for over 25 years. She released her first album with the Nettwerk Music Group in 1996 and Sony Music Publishing Canada. Since then has been signed with Capitol Records, and EMI Canada with her JUNO nominated band Shaye. She haswritten and recorded seven solo albums and two with Shaye.     Tara has recently received the Senate of Canada Medal for her activist work in her community. She finished a run of three summer seasons with her hit theater show that she wrote, produced, and directed called, “Atlantic Blue-The Stories of Atlantic Canada's Iconic Songwriters” inCharlottetown. The summer of 2019 saw Atlantic Blue produced and directed by the world famous Charlottetown Festival playing three nights a week to sold out crowds.  Tara received the SOCAN Songwriter of the Year award as well as Solo Recording of the Year for her latest album, Deeper at the PEI Music Awards. Deeper was nominated for Pop Album of the Year at ECMA 2020. Her duet with Catherine MacLellan, "This Storm", received the award for Song of the Year. She performed “Songs from Atlantic Blue” in Concert with the PEISymphony Orchestra. Last year, Tara received the Stompin' Tom award by the East Coast Music Association, marking an outstanding contribution to music in the region.  Tara MacLean is an environmental and social justice activist, a zen student, a poet, author and a playwright. She resides in her home province of Prince Edward Island, and also lives on Salt Spring Island, BC. She considers herself bi-coastal. Nick Curran falleció con solo 35 años, dejando una trayectoria a sus espaldas que ya lo había encumbrado como uno de los más valiosos, carismáticos y talentosos artistas de su tiempo.
