A flurry of news on Duke hit the feed today so Donald and Jason jumped on the Duke Basketball Roundup to chat about it. First up, we have another member of the 20226 team as Jack Scott, a wing from Princeton has committed to play at Duke. Jack figures to be a deep bench/practice player for the most part but the podcast gang have plenty of thoughts about how he fits and what he does for Duke. After the break, there is a ton of news coming out of the NBA Draft combine. Isaiah Evans isn't there (someone remind Jason that we need to talk about that), Tyrese Proctor isn't player, and we are getting measurements on Cooper, Kon, and Manman. The DBR Podcast has all the Duke news you could want as we await the lottery and learn where Copper will be planting his Flagg next season. Learn more about your ad choices. With the deadline to enter the transfer portal having passed, Josh, Dustin, and Raul discuss the current outlook for Duke's 2025-26 roster. Topics discussed include: The departure of Tyrese Proctor for the NBA and what he meant to Duke over the last three years How Duke can replace Proctor's volume 3pt shooting and on-ball defense Shelton Henderson's decommitment from Duke and commitment to Miami Caleb Foster returning to Duke for his junior season and what it says about Foster as a person and player How Isaiah Evans can expand upon his role next season Whether Darren Harris can take over Evans' bench role if Evans moves into the starting lineup The frontcourt rotation of Cameron Boozer, Patrick Ngongba, and Maliq Brown Potential actions run between the frontcourt and Isaiah Evans How much Cayden Boozer and Nikolas Khamenia can contribute right away Possible portal additions (specifically the appeal of adding Cedric Coward) General thoughts on Jon Scheyer's roster-building philosophy What it means for Duke to be able to retain so many players To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. Episode 723 is a sad one as we say goodbye to three Duke Blue Devils who are either headed to the NBA or entering the transfer portal as a grad transfer. Jordan Brenner from the Underdogs Podcast joins Donald with Jason still out on international duty. The big story is Cooper Flagg officially announcing that he is leaving Duke for the NBA, where he will presumably be the #1 pick in the NBA Draft in June. We look back at his historic year where he was the best player in college basketball and was just a ton of fun to watch. Jordan and Donald discuss which teams could be a good or intriguing fit for Cooper as he heads to the next level. We also touch on Tyrese Proctor declaring for the NBA Draft. He had a monster year for Duke, a redemption year for the Aussie assassin. He is a player who NBA teams really do need and we look forward to seeing who decides to take him. The 3 and D attributes only tell some of the tale about how he can impact a franchise. Finally, Stanley Borden will graduate from Duke next month, and he has decided to take a graduate year somewhere else. Despite not scoring a point for Duke, he was a fan favorite, and we show him some love as he departs the program to try and get some playing time in his final year of eligibility. The Duke Blue Devils destroyed the Miami Hurricanes, but it may have come at a huge cost as Jason and Donald recap everything on DBR Bites #95. The big focus of the crew is on Tyrese Proctor, who injured his knee last night during the game. There's no official word on what the diagnosis is, but we hope it's not major. We discuss what his absence means for the team and we discuss some of the headlines that came in, some well before they were due. On the court, Isaiah Evans was once again on fire and we lead with another fun game from him. The rest of the team showed out on offense and defense, and we get to a lot of each. From Kon Knueppel to Cooper Flagg to Big Pat Ngongba and Caleb Foster, it was a sight to watch this team absolutely cook the Canes. We discuss a couple of the things that we want to see improve from this game as well as the Play of the Game, and we'll be back in your feeds very quickly as Florida State awaits this weekend. Duke had no trouble beating the Cal Bears in Cameron on Wednesday night and it is a real testament to the quality of these Blue Devils that the Duke Basketball Roundup crew didn't start out their recap podcast by raving about how great the game way. A 21 point beatdown just isn't that surprising from this crew of Blue Devils. Still, Jason and Donald found plenty to talk about on their latest episode including the stellar play of the team D and the offensive explosion we are seeing from Tyrese Proctor. After the break, the guys also get into some pretty bad errors made by the ACC Network announcing crews last night. Whew, these are simple facts but the TV commentators just messed them up wildly. What was that game?! Donald and Jason hop on almost immediately after Duke beat NC State to discuss all the ancillary weirdness that attached itself to this game. From the weird (Khaman Maluach losing his lunch) to the wild (Tyrese Proctor being saved from falling out of bounds by Kon Knueppel holding his leg down) to the downright scary (a fan passing out in the stands), we decided to jump on for a few minutes to talk about those things. The actual basketball game action will be recapped on Tuesday, so submit your headlines to our email (DBR Podcast at Gmail dot com). But this is 15 minutes of recapping the weird non-basketball moments of this game. Somehow, Duke is still unbeaten in the ACC, but we're left not knowing how quite to fully process this win. What is it that's made this season historically dominant at the top, according to Kenpom numbers? And is that a concern for Duke heading into the NCAA tournament? Josh, Dustin, and Raul react to Duke's 89-62 domination of SMU on the road, which moved the Blue Devils to 4-0 in the ACC and got them a valuable Quad 1 victory for their resume. They asses how Duke was able to control the game despite the absence of head coach Jon Scheyer. Topics discussed include: Duke's hot offensive start Cooper Flagg's continued offensive improvements Khaman Maluach's defensive impact at the rim Tyrese Proctor's aggressiveness Sion James as the team's steadying presence Caleb Foster's strong game off the bench A (perhaps overly) lengthy discussion of Foster's best role going forward Mason Gillis's 2nd consecutive solid showing Then they turn their attention to the Pittsburgh game in Cameron. They talk about what makes Pitt the 2nd best team in the ACC and how Duke can slow their potent, guard-driven offense down. They also speculate about how much a desire for revenge will play a factor for Duke after Pitt beat them in Cameron last year in humiliating fashion. A game at upstart SMU was supposed to be one of the biggest challenges left on Duke's schedule and most folks expected a close contest that would likely no be decided until the final minutes. It didn't take long for Duke to dispel that notion. The DBR Podcast crew cannot gush enough about this game where Duke jumped all over SMU and never let up for a second. Tyrese Proctor, Manman, Caleb Foster, and several guys get shout-outs but it is the performance of Cooper Flagg that really stands out as he impacts every aspect of the contest on both ends of the floor. A word of warning -- be careful as you listen or you might get caught up in a wee bit of irrational exuberance... the guys even calculate Duke's chances of winning out the rest of the regular season. Duke got off to another slow start, but righted the ship and took care of business against Louisville to notch an important road win in their ACC opener. On the latest episode of the Duke Basketball Roundup, Jason and Donald chat about the phenomenal play of the "old dudes" Tyrese Proctor, Sion James, and especially Maliq Brown. They took over when the game was on the line after Cooper Flagg picked up his 4th foul with about 11 minutes left. Those guys -- with help from Kon Ktripple and Mason Gillis, turned a 5 point deficit into an 8 point lead, allowing Duke to cruise home with a win. The podcast gang may be frustrated by yet another game where the Devils got off to a terribly cold start, but have no complaints about the second half and the adjustments Duke made in the contest. After the break, the guys chat a bit about the opening of ACC play for the rest of the league. A few teams pulled off all-important road wins as the ACC already seems to be separating into tiers. It will forever be known as the Isaiah Evans game. With the Auburn Tigers laying a hurting on Duke early in Cameron, a little used freshman suddenly became the best player on the floor. The Duke Basketball Roundup has a full breakdown of the matchup between the best offense and the best defense in the land as Duke beats Auburn 84 - 78. And though the first half belonged to Evans, the second half was the Cooper Flagg show as Duke held the Tigers at arm's length throughout. Jason and Donald have plenty to say about this impressive win, including praise for Maliq Brown and Sion James on D and a special play of the game nod to Tyrese Proctor for an amazing buzzer beater. This is the kind of win that will look very, very good when the NCAA selection committee is doing their thing in March. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Duke Blue Devils got the huge road win last night against the Arizona Wildcats, and we recap everything on Episode 664. Duke went to Tucson to take on Arizona, and thankfully the defense and fight were present the entire night. Donald and Jason start with the headlines and then talk about everything that Duke did to win this game at McKale Memorial. It was a dogfight of a game, and Duke showed that they can withstand it and do what's necessary to win. It was a frustrating game offensively for large stretches of the night, but the defense led the way and especially the rebounding. Cooper Flagg, Kon Knueppel, Sion James, and Tyrese Proctor are all standouts for very different reasons. After the break, we discuss the things that needed to be better, from free throws to missed layups. It wasn't a perfect game and it was frustrating game. But, the fight got us across the finish line. We then discuss our play of the game as well as our players of the week. Next up: the Kansas Jayhawks in Las Vegas. Donald will be there! The Blue Devils face their second big test of the early season on Friday when they face the formidable Arizona Wildcats. Last year it was Arizona stealing a win at Duke and the Blue Devils hope to return the favor as they visit the McKale Center in Tucson, a rare true road game in the non-conference schedule. The Duke Basketball Roundup takes a deep dive into the Wildcats roster and how they have played thus far this year. They have struggled from three point range but play at a really fast pace and may be the best rebounding team in the country. There are some really compelling matrchups on the court, including Tyrese Proctor facing off against the hated former Tarheel Caleb Love. As the DBR gang makes clear, this is a hugely important game for Duke. After dropping a close one to Kentucky, the Devils need to show they can win against the other top teams in college basketball. Ben and Clinton break down their thoughts on the Lincoln (Pa.) exhibition game, and discuss the impact of Cooper Flagg and Kon Knueppel. They discuss the unexpected starters, and the dialogue around Tyrese Proctor. Follow @Duke_Wisdom on Instagram and Twitter/X Go to dukewisdom.org for articles
Josh, Dustin, and Raul start the episode by reacting to the commitment of Cayden and Cameron Boozer to Duke. They talk about whether Miami was ever truly the favorite, plus what it means for Jon Scheyer to land legacy recruits. They also look at how the Boozers will impact next year's Duke team. Then they get into the episode proper, featuring special guest John Watson of thedevilsden.com. First they recap Dustin's experience at ACC Media Day. They listen to quotes from Jon Scheyer about 3pt shooting and Tyrese Proctor about the impact of Khaman Maluach. Then John Watson shares his experiences attending a Duke Men's Basketball practice. He gives his thoughts on the team's overall ceiling, and the roles of various players. Who was running point guard between Foster and Proctor? What is impressing people so much about Knueppel? How does Cooper impact the game regardless of how much he scores? After that, they touch base about various recruiting targets. Note: because this section of the podcast was recorded before the Boozers' commitment, their potential commitment is discussed in more hypothetical terms. On the heels of the schedule being announced (if you missed episode #648, go back and check it out) the DBR Podcast has gotten some intel about how the early practices are going for the Blue Devils... and the info is really intriguing. College hoops reporter Jon Rothstein got a peek at a Duke practice this week and he says Kon Kneuppel and Darren Harris both looked fabulous and Cooper Flagg is like nothing he has seen in a long, long time. Rothstein also guesses at what Duke's starting lineup will be... and his guess will really surprise you. After the break, Jason and Donald take a deep dive into the latest episode of the Brotherhood Podcast, featuring a conversation between CFos and Tyrese Proctor. The backcourt mates have a revealing talk about how the team is coming together and what feels different from the past couple years. If what they have to say does not excite you about the coming season, then you do not bleed Duke Blue! Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
We're back with Episode 637, where we are joined by Jon Chepkevich of Draft Express to discuss some Duke Blue Devils and their NBA prospects! Recently, Sion James and Tyrese Proctor competed at the CP3 Elite Camp, while Kon Knueppel and Isaiah Evans attended the Jayson Tatum Elite Camp, and Chepkevich was present at both to view the athletes. We go through each of the players one by one, breaking down what they did well at the camps, what they can improve on, and their current draft prospects according to Draft Express. Chepkevich also has seen a lot of Cooper Flagg and Khaman Maluach, and we take the time to go through their pros and cons. Both are expected to be high draft picks, with Flagg being #1, so it's good to get an outside perspective about their abilities and how they could improve at Duke. After we say goodbye to Jon, Cooper Flagg has really broken out with his stellar play at USA Basketball training camp on the USA Select Team. We review some of the footage that we saw coming out of the scrimmages, and make no mistake: we have some of the best players on the planet now saying that Cooper Flagg is the real deal. The Duke Blue Devils 2024-25 roster is rebuilt, and now they're in the lab to gel into a team this summer. As they do so, we look back at how Duke did in the transfer portal and what we can expect from the team next season. On Episode 631, we welcome back Brendan Marks of The Athletic for an incredible interview that is broken down into two parts. This episode focuses on Part 1 of our interview, in which Marks helps us understand more about how this roster was constructed. We start with the transfer portal and how Duke did in relation to the rest of the conference at filling the holes that the roster had. This is a pivotal year for Duke, and Marks believes that the portal additions will help Duke in so many ways. We then focus on some of the freshmen coming in as well as where the main returnees - Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster - fit into the mix. This team will be built around Cooper Flagg, but you won't want to miss what Brendan thinks of the potential starting 5 - competition may drive who gets some of these spots! We will be back in your feeds early next week to give you Part 2 of our interview with Brendan Marks, taking a look at the ACC as a whole and how the other 17 teams (yes, we gotta get used to that) are looking as we enter the summer months. Now that Duke's full roster is set, Josh, Dustin, and Raul are joined by Brian Geisinger of 247Sports to discuss the construction of the team. Brian gives his in-depth thoughts on the players added in the transfer portal. What do they say about Coach Scheyer's plans for this season? What kind of role will each play? They also look at the returning backcourt of Caleb Foster and Tyrese Proctor. How do these players complement each other, and what are some areas of concern? Lastly, they discuss the incoming freshmen. What are reasonable expectations for Cooper Flagg? Which of the other freshmen might contribute in unexpected ways? Kentucky has now lost every scholarship-level player from last season's roster (and lost all but one of the incoming freshmen). Mark Pope has a long, uphill climb ahead of him, but should be able to navigate. Can he get anyone to stay in Lexington? Adou Thiero? Can he convince anyone to come with him from BYU to Kentucky? Duke is in a similar boat although they retained two returners – Tyrese Proctor and Caleb Foster. How will Jon Scheyer utilize the portal…or rather: build around Cooper Flagg? For the third straight offseason, the Michigan Admissions department has cost the basketball team the opportunity at an elite-level athlete who could immediately help – this time it was FAU transfer Johnell Davis. Josh and Raul are joined by Brendan Marks of The Athletic. First they discuss the 2023-24 season for Duke and for the ACC as a whole. How did Duke's season stack up against the lofty expectations? What led to UNC's turnaround from missing the tournament to a 1-seed? What do NC State and Clemson's tournament runs say about the health of the conference? Then they turn their attention to the 2024-25 season. What do Tyrese Proctor's and Caleb Foster's returns mean for Duke? What kind of player(s) should Duke add in the portal? What will Duke's starting lineup next year be and what will the product look like on the court? Tim Donnelly & Dennis Cox discuss Duke basketball guard Jeremy Roach declaring for the NBA Draft, while also entering the transfer portal, and how this effects head coach Jon Scheyer, and guard Tyrese Proctor. Tim Donnelly points out how UNC basketball doesn't have any star players playing in the NBA playoffs, but Duke basketball has a multitude of them, and that North Carolina basketball needs to get back to having the reputation of producing those high end players.

Caleb Foster is back! The Duke Blue Devils guard discussed teaming up next season with Tyrese Proctor on the latest episode of The Brotherhood Podcast, and we react to it on DBR Bites Episode 44! We hinted that it was coming due to the show notes in The Brotherhood Podcast's preview on YouTube referencing it, but Caleb Foster will return for his sophomore season to pair up with Proctor in the backcourt. Jason and Donald discuss what a boost it will be to the lineup next season. The team's going to be tall and have lots of length on defense! After the break, we discuss the performances of Cooper Flagg, Isaiah Evans, and Khaman Maluach at the Nike Hoops Summit (Patrick Ngongba was also present, but did not play). While we are very much in the camp of not wanting people to gather too much from an all star game, it's hard not to be excited at Cooper Flagg's performance. We close by celebrating Paolo Banchero making history and Grayson Allen making bank! Make sure you're following us! The Blue Devils get some great news for the 2024-25 campaign as it has been revealed that point-guard Tyrese Proctor will return to Durham to captain what is widely expected to be the preseason #1 team in the land. The Duke Basketball Roundup Podcast team are positively giddy with excitement over getting another year of an elite player like Proctor and they really cannot wait to watch him tossing lobs to what looks like a super bouncy Blue Devil team next season. Tyrese showed improvement in many areas in the past campaign and the notion of him having another year of development and growth should have every Duke fan excited. After the break, the DBR podcast guys take a moment to shout out the 8 Duke basketball players who have earned recognition on the ACC's All-Academic team. It is a testament to the commitment of the players and the school to make sure both sides of the student-athlete equation are emphasized at Duke. Oh, and if you travel down the road a little bit to Chapel Hill, the number of their players who earned academic recognition from the ACC is just shameful. Learn more about your ad choices. Josh, Dustin, and Raul go through the over/under picks they made for various team and player stats at the beginning of the season. They react to their guesses and discuss why a player or the team fell short or exceed their predictions. A winner is announced and gets nothing but bragging rights. We're still buzzing after Duke's thrilling win in the Sweet 16 over the Houston Cougars, and we do a full recap on Episode 618! Duke set some records with this win, and answered a lot of questions about their toughness. After reviewing some of the amazing headlines we received, we get to the game, and toughness is the first thing Donald and Jason discuss. It was the theme for the game, and in a game where haymakers were thrown by Houston in the form of their physical play, Duke answered the bell each time and dished out some punches of their own. Ryan Young, Tyrese Proctor, Jeremy Roach, and Kyle Filipowski are some of the players who get some deserved love, and we send some love to Jon Scheyer and the coaching staff for their preparation for this big game. After we deal with the good, we discuss some of the things to improve, and thankfully, we have another chance to do so. After we give our plays of the game, we move onto the Elite 8 matchup against a familiar foe: NC State. They're a much different team than the one we saw twice already in March, but Duke is a different team too. We discuss some of the things to look out for when the two teams fight for the right to head to the Final Four. Make sure you're following us! The Duke Blue Devils took care of business against the Louisville Cardinals, and we recap the game on Episode 601! Duke made easy work of the Cards, winning by 25 in a game that really was over early in the 2nd half. Jason and Donald hit the headlines and discuss the good in this game. In a game that was sloppy at times, the defense was still very good on the evening. They rebounded amazingly well and won almost every positive statistical category. We then get into the individual players, and there was a lot of love shown for guys like Jeremy Roach, Tyrese Proctor, Sean Stewart, and even Spencer Hubbard. After the break, we get into some of the things to improve from this game, and spoiler: turnovers and free throws were the bulk of this discussion. The Duke Blue Devils had a huge victory on the road against Virginia Tech, and JJ Jackson from Locked On Blue Devils returns to the show to help us recap the win on Episode 588! That was a tremendous win for the Blue Devils, and after the headlines, Donald and JJ dive into the many things that Duke did well against the Hokies. They spend time on the excellent defense, including a tremendous block by Ryan Young. They also spend time on the offense, from Young's production to Jeremy Roach and Tyrese Proctor really putting the Hokies to bed and denying them their bacon. After the break, we spend some time on the things to improve, particularly the uncharacteristic turnovers they had. Still, this was a solid win for the Blue Devils in a place that they normally don't play well. We end with some talk about the ACC's chances to get more than 2 teams into the NCAA Tournament. Some metrics show that the ACC is stronger than the rest of the nation wants to believe. Make sure you're following us!
