Last season, out of the five games the Steelers gave up the most rushing yards, four of them came against AFC North teams. Nick Chubb and the Cleveland Browns pose as the biggest threat with one of the more respected offensive lines in the NFL. They were also the only team in 2022 to rush for more than 130 yards twice against the Steelers. Lamar Jackson and J.K Dobbins pose a dual rushing attack for the Baltimore Ravens. But the Steelers have proven to be more suited to handle their rushing attack. Can that continue in 2023? The Cincinnati Bengals don't run as much as the Ravens and the Browns, but Joe Mixon is still a threat that balances a unit that's based in Joe Burrow and JaMarr Chase. But there's no rush in the current NFL market to finalize the Steelers' plan at the position with players like Kwon Alexander and Deion Jones still in free agency and Isaiah Simmons as a possible trade target for the Arizona Cardinals. Patience will be key for Omar Khan to make the right move again for the Steelers. Also, there's a debate for after Diontae Johnson and George Pickens, who should be WR3? Allen Robinson is an obvious choice, but should Calvin Austin III be overlooked? And when looking at the wide receiver depth chart, how much will a WR3 even get targeted in an offense that looks to establish the run and will have Johnson, Pickens, Najee Harris and Pat Freiermuth as primary options before that spot. So there's less pressure for a third wide receiver to be a key player for the offense. A big similarity can be drawn back to the 2005 Steelers when Ben Roethlisberger was in his second year just like Kenny Pickett is now in his second year with the Steelers. Now during OTAs, they're turning heads for how they've been fitting in at practice. Porter and Trice as rookies are said to have been understanding and fitting into the Steelers' defensive schemes very well by Patrick Peterson, the Steelers' oldest cornerback in the room and a future Hall of Fame cornerback. Is the hype around the rookies for real? Maybe. But there's a factor that simply getting the defensive concepts within their understanding could be unlocked. Also, there's the potential for a weakness in the Steelers secondary, and it could be potential matchups with playmaker tight ends. The absence of Terrell Edmunds wasn't filled with safeties who are particularly known for shutting down that position.
