In this episode, I talk to the wonderful comedian, LOUISE ATKINSON. Hailing from Hull, Atkinson has performed at many comedy nights on the UK circuit and is wonderfully affable and confident on stage. Her themes are extremely relatable, and she delivers exceptionally funny observations on life. I first saw Atkinson on stage as a finalist in the Amused Moose National New Comic Final at the Edinburgh Fringe in 2018. The deserved winner was Maisie Adam, yet Atkinson showed great promise, and I watched her again as a guest act for Birdies Comedy showcase in 2018 and then for Tickled Pink Supporting Women in Comedy at 21 Soho in in 2022. In 2023, I saw her brilliant debut solo show Mates at the Vaults Festival and in 2024, a work-in-progress of her new show, She Got the Look, at the Hastings Comedy Festival. Thank you so much for listening to my podcast, if you like what you hear, please subscribe and I hope you enjoy the interview. With very clean hands, this week's podzine brings you Sex and Lies, as author Leila Slimani tells Jen all about her new book looking at the secret sex lives of women in Morocco, a country that still expects its women to be virgins or married.Part of the brilliant Vaults Festival, Miles Apart Together is a new play charting world-beating feats accomplished by women you've never heard of. But you're hearing about them now, as actor Meg Kubota tells our Hannah about Annie "Londonderry" Kopchovsky, Bessie Coleman and Junko Tabei. In Jenny Off The Blocks, Jen’s wondering if it’s time for Phil Neville to sling his hook as far as his management of the Lionesses is concerned, and in the Bush Telegraph the team talks COVID-19, convicted rapist Harvey Weinstein and #WeToo, and the problem with the Labour leadership race. Well, one of them anyway. And there are more fun and games in Dunleavy Does Disaster, as Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson saves what's left of the day while his on-screen daughter goes tits akimbo in 2015's San Andreas. The Drunk Women love being able to spend International Women's Day together and so decided to do a live show as part of the Vaults Festival, also raising money for child.org and joining them to do all of this was actor, comedian and writer, Andi Osho!Andi's own crime story could have easily been a plot in a James Bond novel and showed that most villains would have to get up early to have one over on her, which she also went on to demonstrate when Hannah presented a case involving a woman who inspired celebrity status for her confidence tricks - which are truly awe inspiring. The evening was rounded-off nicely by an audience member sharing a mystery of a missing engagement ring.... which actually could still be in her bag to be fair. This episode welcomes comedy director & producer Saima Ferdows to our ever expanding force and what an asset she is.We start by hearing about a crime committed against Saima which could unleash a podcast called 'Drunk Women COMMITTING Crime'. It's then of course time to get into the work of a ne'er-do-well from history, in this instance the criminal attempted a confidence trick of royal proportions, hitting the victim in more than just The Crown Jewels - despite some abysmal planning skills. The gang then solve a crime sent in by a listener, for which both Saima and Hannah can offer some empathy.Come and see Drunk Women Solving Crime LIVE during Spring 2020:On IWD on 8th March as part of The Vaults Festival, with all proceeds going to child.orgAt Birmingham Podfest on 28th March& At Podfest live at Wilton's Music Hall, London on 8th April. For full details and tickets, go to drunkwomensolvingcrime.com See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

This week I had the pleasure of a catch up with an old friend. The lovely Joann Condon! Many of you may well recognise Jo from her role of 'Pat' in Fat Fighters in 'Little Britain'. Jo has also appeared in everything from 'Shine On Harvey Moon' to 'The Office' to 'Skins'. I know Jo from a gay play we appeared in many years ago - when we could both still get away with playing teenagers! We catch up on the decades we've missed and Jo's journey to writing her one woman show 'Little Boxes' - which opens next week as part of the Vaults Festival. We talk about everything from growing up in the east end, and Jo's path through school to acting, to Boy George, and the influence he had on Jo as a teenager. We had such a lovely, fun chat and for those of you yet to meet Jo, this is your chance to jump in, grab a a cuppa, and get to know this very genuine and funny lady. Tickets for Jo's show are available at vaultfestival.com The show plays from Jan 28th to Feb 6th at 6pm. Please have a look at the company Jo has set up with Leonie Rachel - Alphamum Productions. Paloma is back to update us on her journey! Paloma has been busy since we last spoke and good lordy does she have some tales and work to prove it! She has gone from the timid assistant on her secondment at the Lyric Hammersmith to bold and brave associate taking TERROR all the way to Australia... During that time she wrote a play called STUD about a gay footballer and now it's about to open at the Vaults Festival at The Network Theatre. My mind, body and soul is BLOWN! She is the embodiment of inspiring and happens to be hilarious at the same time! ENJOY!!! https://vaultfestival.com/whats-on/stud/ @PalomaOakenfold @LiamFrankBergin #STUDplay “There are currently no openly gay or bi players at any level of male professional football in Britain.” Stonewall Tom’s sixteen. His family home is falling apart. His mum has left and his depressed Dad can’t pay the bills. The only light in Tom’s life is football: He lives it and breathes it. Going pro is Tom’s chance to make life better, for everyone…. But Tom has a secret, one that could cost him his career. We follow Tom as he weighs his dreams against each other because in professional football, you can’t have both. STUD is a funny, defiant, inspiring piece that explores gender, ambition and what it takes to make dreams come true. Presented as a World Premiere at VAULT Festival in association with Team Angelica, STUD is a celebration of being different. “Funny and touching and fearlessly truthful, ‘Stud’ is more than timely, it’s what this world – wrestling as we are with masculinity in crisis – is crying out for.”- Rikki Beadle Blair STUD is supported by Arts Council England and Lyric, Hammersmith.
