According to popular legend, the frontiersman Daniel Boone first laid eyes on the bluegrass region of central Kentucky on June 7, 1769. To gain this initial sight, Boone and his companions scaled a 700-foot sandstone outcrop called Pilot Knob, which gives a commanding view over the surrounding dense forest. After weeks of traveling over forbidding mountains, fording raging rivers, and narrowly escaping imprisonment by hostile Shawnee warriors, their ascent of this tower-like hill must have given the haggard frontiersmen a sense of relief. The expansive view of what he called "ample plains [and] beauteous tracts below" must have been mingled with hopes for future blessing and security in what would be his new home in subsequent years. Pilot Knob is now a Kentucky state nature preserve, and the summit still provides stunning views of this rugged region, with the addition of (on clear days) the skyline of the city of Lexington 40 miles in the distance. I had this spot, which I had the pleasure of hiking earlier this year, in mind as I was setting the text of Psalm 46 for congregational worship. The language of a "refuge," a "help in trouble," a fortress amid mountains, rivers, and hostile enemies paired in my mind with this lonely outpost where American settlers first found a refuge in the land the natives called a "dark and bloody ground." While not as venerable a setting of Psalm 46 as Luther's EIN FESTE BURG, I hope that the bluegrass inspired PILOT KNOB has helped you engage with this beautiful text from the Scriptures over these past few weeks. —Henry C. He's an author and the host of the radio broadcasts Faith & Freedom, Freedom's Call and the TV broadcast, Freedom Alive. Jim had Mat comment on the following cases, pertinent to your religious freedom: In an 8-1 decision in the case of Chiles v. Salazar, the Supreme Court ruled that the ban on (so-called) conversion therapy (actually talk therapy) for minors violates the free speech of licensed counselors. Justice Katanji Brown Jackson was the only dissenting vote. There was a settlement agreed to by the city of Louisville, Kentucky, regarding a Christian photographer who was threatened with legal sanction if she did not serve (so-called) same-sex weddings. The photographer was also prohibited by the city from expressing her views on marriage on her own studio website. Earlier this month, Mat argued before the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of Zinski v. Liberty University. It's a case involving Jonathan Zinski, who Mat believes, "... intentionally set up Liberty University to try to take them down." This case could determine the scope of religious liberty protections for faith-based organizations. Oral arguments will be given before the Supreme Court tomorrow to settle the issue of birthright citizenship (Trump v. Barbara). Also discussed was the "creep" of Islamic Sharia and why Mat believes it's not compatible with American law. Highlighted was discussion of the "Preserving a Sharia-Free America Act" (H.R.5722/S. 3009) introduced by Representative Chip Roy and Senator Tommy Tuberville.

Started off with a disgusting post from Michael Spangler attacking Corrie Ten Boom and the book, The Hiding Place. Just astonishing how Jew hatred rots the brain. Then we moved on to Dan McClellan's response piece, but spent most of today just discussing doing scholarship under the Lordship of Christ, and how this determines how you are going to interact with the text of Scripture. We will have to continue that response next week, hopefully from the Mobile Command Center!

The Bible's teaching on hell is a lot to take in, if one takes it seriously. And many don't. Human reluctance to embrace this hard teaching is understandable. It is appropriate to not like hell. God does not love hell; He does not delight in the destruction of the wicked (Ezek. 18:23). But we must believe what the Bible says about hell. And, rightly understood, we will find the doctrine "has the support of reason" and Scripture, as C. S. Lewis put it. Sincere readers recognize that hell, despite its offensiveness, is not a fringe topic of Scripture. Rather, it is at the center of the warnings of Jesus and the apostles; it functions the same in the Old Testament as in the New. And, like all revelation, the Bible's message about hell is "profitable for teaching … that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work" (2 Tim. 3:16, 17).

Every Christian agrees that prayer is vital, yet people define it in many different ways. Scripture shows that prayer is essentially worship—an act of giving God our honor, praise, and submission rather than a technique for getting what we want. Too often prayer is treated like a supernatural vending machine that will deliver whatever we demand if we say the right words or perform the right rituals; James 4 warns that this mindset corrupts our motives and borders on idolatry and blasphemy. True prayer is about entering God's presence, learning who He is, and aligning our will with His. It acknowledges our dependence and invites God to shape us; as C. S. Lewis observed, "Prayer doesn't change God; it changes me."

This sermon delivers a fiery, polemical critique of Mormonism and Sharia law, asserting both as dangerous, deceptive systems rooted in authoritarian control and doctrinal falsehood.
