God's Commandments versus Man's Traditions: Matthew 15:1-12: 15 Then some Pharisees and scribes *came to Jesus from Jerusalem and said, 2 "Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? For they do not wash their hands when they eat bread." 3 And He answered and said to them, "Why do you yourselves transgress the commandment of God for the sake of your tradition? 4 For God said, 'Honor your father and mother,' and, 'He who speaks evil of father or mother is to be put to death.' 5 But you say, 'Whoever says to his father or mother, "Whatever you might benefit from me is given to God," 6 he need not [c]honor his father.' And by this you invalidated the word of God for the sake of your tradition. 7 You hypocrites, rightly did Isaiah prophesy of you: 8 'This people honors Me with their lips, But their heart is far away from Me. 9 But in vain do they worship Me, Teaching as doctrines the commands of men.'" 10 After Jesus called the crowd to Him, He said to them, "Hear and understand. 11 It is not what enters into the mouth that defiles the man, but what proceeds out of the mouth, this defiles the man." 12 Then the disciples *came and *said to Him, "Do You know that the Pharisees were [d]offended when they heard this statement?" 13 But He answered and said, "Every plant which My heavenly Father did not plant shall be uprooted. 14 Let them alone; they are blind guides of the blind. And if a blind man guides a blind man, both will fall into a pit." The Catholic rite of Holy Communion parallels pre-Christian Greco-Roman and Egyptian rituals that involved eating the body and blood of a god. Mat Staver is founder & chairman of Liberty Counsel. Mat is a constitutional attorney with three landmark cases before the U.S. Supreme Court. He's an author and the host of the radio broadcasts Faith & Freedom, Freedom's Call and the TV broadcast, Freedom Alive. Jim had Mat comment on the following cases, pertinent to your religious freedom: In an 8-1 decision in the case of Chiles v. Salazar, the Supreme Court ruled that the ban on (so-called) conversion therapy (actually talk therapy) for minors violates the free speech of licensed counselors. Justice Katanji Brown Jackson was the only dissenting vote. There was a settlement agreed to by the city of Louisville, Kentucky, regarding a Christian photographer who was threatened with legal sanction if she did not serve (so-called) same-sex weddings. The photographer was also prohibited by the city from expressing her views on marriage on her own studio website. Earlier this month, Mat argued before the U.S. Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals in the case of Zinski v. Liberty University. It's a case involving Jonathan Zinski, who Mat believes, "... intentionally set up Liberty University to try to take them down." This case could determine the scope of religious liberty protections for faith-based organizations. Oral arguments will be given before the Supreme Court tomorrow to settle the issue of birthright citizenship (Trump v. Barbara). Also discussed was the "creep" of Islamic Sharia and why Mat believes it's not compatible with American law. Highlighted was discussion of the "Preserving a Sharia-Free America Act" (H.R.5722/S. 3009) introduced by Representative Chip Roy and Senator Tommy Tuberville.

Hell and the Glory of Divine Justice

The Bible's teaching on hell is a lot to take in, if one takes it seriously. And many don't. Human reluctance to embrace this hard teaching is understandable. It is appropriate to not like hell. God does not love hell; He does not delight in the destruction of the wicked (Ezek. 18:23). But we must believe what the Bible says about hell. And, rightly understood, we will find the doctrine "has the support of reason" and Scripture, as C. S. Lewis put it. Sincere readers recognize that hell, despite its offensiveness, is not a fringe topic of Scripture. Rather, it is at the center of the warnings of Jesus and the apostles; it functions the same in the Old Testament as in the New. And, like all revelation, the Bible's message about hell is "profitable for teaching … that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work" (2 Tim. 3:16, 17).

Prayer is Worship

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 15, 2026 45:26

Every Christian agrees that prayer is vital, yet people define it in many different ways. Scripture shows that prayer is essentially worship—an act of giving God our honor, praise, and submission rather than a technique for getting what we want. Too often prayer is treated like a supernatural vending machine that will deliver whatever we demand if we say the right words or perform the right rituals; James 4 warns that this mindset corrupts our motives and borders on idolatry and blasphemy. True prayer is about entering God's presence, learning who He is, and aligning our will with His. It acknowledges our dependence and invites God to shape us; as C. S. Lewis observed, "Prayer doesn't change God; it changes me."

This sermon delivers a fiery, polemical critique of Mormonism and Sharia law, asserting both as dangerous, deceptive systems rooted in authoritarian control and doctrinal falsehood. It argues that the Book of Mormon contradicts historical facts—such as the absence of horses and elephants in pre-Columbian America—and exposes its alleged fabrication through linguistic inconsistencies and implausible claims about golden plates. The sermon further condemns Mormon missionary training as a form of intellectual indoctrination designed to suppress doubt. It then turns to Sharia law, portraying it as inherently violent and incompatible with American values, citing its provisions for lying in jihad, the death penalty for apostasy, and the subjugation of non-Muslims. The preacher links these religious critiques to broader cultural decline in America, blaming moral relativism, abortion, and the erosion of traditional values as divine judgments. Ultimately, the sermon calls for a return to biblical authority, emphasizing the supremacy of God's law, the necessity of moral integrity, and the hope found in Christ as the true King who will restore justice and dominion.

Ephesians 2:1-10 - Dead in Sin, Alive to Christ

Play Episode Listen Later Feb 15, 2026 53:58

In Ephesians 2:1–10, Paul abruptly shifts from the soaring doxology of chapter 1 to a sobering diagnosis: "And you were dead..." This is no accident. Before exalting the believer in the heavenly places, the apostle forces us to remember the grave we once occupied—dead in trespasses and sins, conformed to this world, enslaved to the prince of the power of the air, and by nature children of wrath. Paul exposes three comprehensive deaths (spiritual, worldly, demonic) to shatter every illusion of self-merit and pride. Yet immediately comes the glorious hinge: "But God..." Rich in mercy and great in love, God made us alive together with Christ, raised us up, and seated us in the heavenlies—three divine cures mirroring our ruin and securing our redemption entirely by grace through faith, not of works. We are not self-made saints; we are God's workmanship (poiema), His living masterpiece, recreated in Christ Jesus for good works He prepared long before we breathed. This sermon reminds the church: forgetting our former deadness opens the door to presumption and robs grace of its glory. Remembering it arms us against the accuser, fuels humble gratitude, and propels us into the purposeful, God-ordained life we were reborn to live. From the mire of our past to the majesty of our position in Christ—run to the cross with every memory. There the charges are answered, the wrath is satisfied, and the minor key of our sin makes the major key of grace ring all the sweeter. Listen, remember, marvel, and walk.

Voddie Baucham (https://www.voddiebaucham.org/ ) begins this discussion. 5:02 - Dispensational Premillennialism is a fairly recent inaccurate invention & was not widely held by the Christian Church for most of its history. Dispensationalism generally holds that Israel and the Church are distinct entities. It also widely holds to the pretribulational return of Christ, which believes that Jesus will return to take up Christians into heaven by means of a rapture immediately before a seven-year worldwide tribulation. For more on this see our video called "END TIMES PROPHECY: WHO IS BIBLICAL "ISRAEL" TODAY? ARE JOHN HAGEE TYPE DISPENSATIONALISTS RIGHT?" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S-jfmz4iC5k&t=56s . 8:22 - The Book of Revelation is not some puzzle book but gives the Christian body of believers important information for any age they live in about what is going on in the world around them presently. The great tribulation is going on presently throughout all the ages until the end shall come. 14:05 - Who can stand before the wrath of God in the world? Revelation 7:13-14, "13 Then one of the elders addressed me, saying, "Who are these, clothed in white robes, and from where have they come?" 14 I said to him, "Sir, you know." And he said to me, "These are the ones coming out of the great tribulation. They have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb." 28:16 - There is one body of believers, not two groups such as Christians & the Jews of Israel in the world today (see our video, "Babylonian Talmud is a Jewish Law & Oral Tradition Book of over 10 million Words Across 38 Volumes" at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZtvgDGUwmYs&t=1183s ).

[Sung Psalm: 40] Here, at the end of his epistle, Peter draws back the curtain for a moment, and shows you the source of the fiery trials that you endure. "Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour." Suffering has a demonic source. We often speak of the world, the flesh, and the devil. We believe in the world–its temptations are too obvious to deny. We believe in the flesh–we feel most painfully our own weakness. But do we really believe in the devil? Do you really believe that the adversary is seeking to devour us? Peter portrays the devil as a roaring lion, prowling around seeking for easy prey. A lion's roar is terrifying. A roaring lion is a hungry lion, seeking to frighten his victims. But it's important to recognize that our adversary is already a defeated foe. He has lost – and he knows it! That's why he wants to make us suffer. But it's also worth saying that Satan remains a creature. He is a powerful creature – certainly! But as a finite creature, he does not know everything – nor can he be everywhere. He can only be at one place and do one thing at a time. While he almost certainly knows who Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin are – he probably does not know our names. If C. S. Lewis is anywhere close to accurate in the Screwtape Letters – his minions don't particularly like each other any more than they like us (and why should they, if they have rebelled against the One who is Love!) So we should certainly take the demonic seriously. The devil is a dangerous foe. But how should we respond to the devil? Peter is very clear how to do this...
