Luke Alberton joins me for a special episode of The Spinward Fringe Podcast where we discuss the most recent book, Broadcast 8: Renegades, the future of the series, and what I’m writing right now, Brightwill. We are temporarily joined by Aurelius, my roommate’s dog. He pops up a couple times, then lets out what sounds like a short death-squeal when Luke motions for the pup to go back upstairs. The dramatic dog ended his appearance and pouted for the rest of the podcast.    Also discussed are other podcasts including An Axe To Grind, more Spinward Fringe / Brightwill podcasts, and Thumbscrew Cinema, a feature podcast coming soon.    Thank you for joining us, please leave a comment or two!   RL

Sylvie and I (Randolph Lalonde), spend some time talking about the seven part preview of Spinward Fringe Broadcast 8 (available here), which is a story in itself with a beginning, middle and end. This podcast will spoil that story for you, so it's a good idea to read it before you listen to this one. We talk about some of the story decisions, and how the central character in the story has evolved.I also take some time to apologise, as we part the curtain for a look behind the scenes and how little time Sylvie had to work with me on getting the seven part story out into the world. As an Editor, she was on a very tight schedule, and I tell her how I'll be changing things so that doesn't happen anymore. All in all, this is a good hour for the Spinward Fringe Podcast, and we do go into some details about how Broadcast 8 is coming along, so people looking for a progress update will find it here. This is the talk before the talk. On a Sunday afternoon the talkative twosome finish planning That Other Podcast (coming soon!), and reveal what the show will be like. If I had a time machine I could go back and post this episode on time. Sadly, I don't have the power to manipulate that wobbly wobbly... time-y wimey... stuff, but it's a double episode so that should count for something (I hope). We have Andy, Randy, Sylvie and Stephanie talking about time travel through the ages - but mostly from film and television. You'll hear names like Quantum Leap, Stargate SG-1, The Time Machine, Looper, and give some directions to some of the more obscure time-traveller fiction out there. We have a few laughs along the way, which is a must for any time travelling team, and end on a few suggestions that we hope you find thrilling. Thank you so much for listening! [Obligatory excuse for the lateness of this episode: The studio was water logged, and it took over two weeks to rebuild upstairs. Luke Alberton from an Axe To Grind and his friend Chris recorded an extra news episode after helping me clear everything out of the studio, which had to be abandoned when the foundation began to leak. We talk about that mini-flood, Google's move to enforce safe image search, new news from the next Star Wars movie, and season 6 of Sons of Anarchy. We round the episode out by reviewing the new Simcity. It's an episode with a different tone and some lively conversation. For the first time in studio, Sylvie, Stephanie and Randy are joined by Andy, a time-travelling, kick-ass commenter who happens to be anchored in our time thanks to our limited technology. We wanted to talk about time travel, but there was so much important news to share instead, so you get the play by play of an interesting month in excellent Geek Entertainment news and all the round table commentary that comes with it. Actually, our table is square, but since there's no video for this, or any episode, I hope you won't notice the difference. We also take a moment to talk about how our media is packaged these days: Are the super-pack DVD+Blu-Ray+Digital+Special Features discs and their variations worth it? I like to think that we did well in this episode discussing heroic women in fiction as well as a range of other related topics including prejudices and double standards. This was originally going to be a split episode, but it became plain to me (Randy), that this episode had to stay in one piece because we get a little serious about things and we come to a conclusion that I think requires the proper context. Ultimately, our discussion took a life of its own and went in an unexpected, but interesting direction. The topic was much larger than we could have contained in the time given, so I'm sure we're going to revisit this topic in the future from a different angle. Sylvie, Stephanie and Randy merrily bounce through our planned topics with a broken track counter that keeps telling Randy they're over an hour into recording. They start off talking about the shows they're NOT watching, asking questions like: Are the Networks watching YOU? How do you find your favourite shows without cable - LEGALLY? Is Once Upon A Time better than LOST? Is TV successfully making the transition to the INTERNET? They eventually dig into the topic of comic book heroes on TV, in the movies and spend equal time on the ones that did well, and the ones that didn't. That leads to a review of the new Spider-Man movie, some nerd rage and coverage of many more flicks leading to to Iron Man, where many things changed. If you ever doubted that women play video games, then this episode should provide all the evidence you need to dismiss your skepticism. I am fortunate to sit down with Sylvie and Stephanie, who regale me with tales of their youth with games and what they're playing now. That screen shot you're looking at is from Quest For Tires, a game that one of our ladies of gaming loved as a child. We talk fairly extensively about God of War 3, Guild Wars 2, the Assassin's Creed Series as well as the movie, MMO's, how women are portrayed in games, Diablo II and the upcoming update to Baldur's gate. We touch on a plethora of other games including World of Warcraft, Tera, Call of Ducy, Age of Conan, Diablo II and III, Dragon Age and Star Wars The Old Republic. The topic of bad video game movies comes up as well, but not for too long, since we mostly manage to stay on target! er, topic. I meant 'topic'. Ray and I take a look at Spinward Fringe Broadcast 2, in what turns out to be a fairly thorough and flavorful read-along edition of the podcast. It's not your typical read-along, rather, we have a great time looking at the book from every angle but in no particular order.Until I re-read Broadcast 2 the night before as a noval in its own right, I had forgotten how much fun I had writing it, and how I think it wraps up the set of Broadcast 1 and Broadcast 2 nicely. So, sit back, put your feet and listen in as Ray and I enjoy this book aloud, examining our favourite bits, what happens in the book, what the chracters experience and where we end up on the last page. We're thinking of Bif Naked as she struggles with health issues, wishing her all the best and hoping she makes a full recovery. This week we play Red Flag from her most recent album: The Promise. You can find her through Bifnaked.com or wherever great music is sold.Thank you for listening!

In the second half of the pilot episode of Where's My Flying Car? we continue to rush between topics you'd find in a geek boutique that include: Light Sabers versus Nanoswords, Hoverboards by Hasbro, Pamela Anderson, X-Ray Glasses you can order from the back of a comic book, real life stasis, Peter DeLuise (that great director), Stargate SG-1, the True Blood Finale (spoiler alert!) and we recommend Buffy The Vampire Slayer for our suggested view of the week (spoiler alert!). It's an epic end to an epic pilot episode. I thank Ray for joining me, and everyone else for listening to us! Please tell us what you think of our driving in the comments section! RL

Welcome to the first regular episode of Where's My Flying Car? where we follow Ray's ADD down the rabbit hole to topics including (but not limited t0): A lack of space themed science fiction on TV, the SyFy Network, Uwe Boll (that director guy), Spike TV, some Spinward Fringe trivia, a conversation on how some shows just don't age well, Xena Warrior Princess, Hercules, Bruce Campbell, and our Blu Ray of the Week: Star Trek The Next Generation - Season 1. It's the first half of an exploratory geek conversation, and we have a blast. The theme music is by the Omega Experiment. You can find them on iTunes or on their website. Thank you so much for listening, watch for the second half of this, and for the Spinward Fringe Podcast, returning to your feed on Saturday!

Sylvie and Luke join me in studio to talk writing, podcasting and how awesome the Facebook Page crew are. We answer the questions: What advice do we have for self publishers? For new writers? As well as: Why podcast? What's with the music? and I talk about how big change can disrupt the creative process. Stephen King and Russel T Davies (of Dr Who and Coupling fame), come up, as well as Wattpad and what the future of the Crewcast Radio Network might look like now that we have 15 episodes under our belt. We round out this epic, afternoon filling episode by thanking the Facebook Crew for helping out in times of need, and the tip jar for the talent that enters the bunker to help me with the show. This double sized episode also contains twice the music! The first song is by that fantastic, whimsical band: Pomplamoose, called Little Things. Check thm out if you like what you hear! The second track is by Stereo Alchemy, a new act with huge talent. We play the title track from their new album, God of Love. Check them out if your ears are pleased! Thank you for listening!

I have the pleasure of sitting down with Sylvie and Luke for a fantastic Q&A using quesitons from the Facebook Page. We talk about where the material cut from my books goes, the Edxi Plushie and why it's a bad idea, evolution in interstellar settlements, what's next for Spinward Fringe merchandise, printed book availability and Luke talks about handling hecklers on stage as a stand up comic. I also provide an update on Broadcast 7 progress. This fantastic episode is brought to a charming close thanks to Pomplamoose. We play a tune from the album: 3 New Songs! Woot! called If You Think You Need Some Lovi. Check them out on iTunes or www.pomplamoose.com The Youtube clip we talked about with Luke Alberton performing on stage can be found here. Check him out! I'm joined in studio by Sylvie and Luke for a fun-filled question period. Topics include: What's inside a Spacerwares store? What job would we take if we were aboard the Triton? Why are British people interlopers in Spinward Fringe? Is Spinward Fringe staying PG? There's another question or two, and we give out PRIZES! Tune in to find out why we're giving swag away, how we're deciding who gets it, and if you're getting any! You too could be a winner! Special notes: There was a heavy vacuum noise throughout the episode thanks to a duct cleaning truck across the street, but after some serious work much of the annoying noise should be gone. I also messed up the name of our song this week, see below for the correct one. This episode features Katerinah Joshephina by Universal Hall Pass - a fantastic, dynamic group.
