What happens when you're 21 years old and suddenly responsible for leading people twice your age? In this episode, I sit down with Max to explore his journey from the Canadian Armed Forces to senior healthcare leadership. We talk about leading under pressure, navigating imposter syndrome, and the transition from structured military systems to the complexity of civilian healthcare. We unpack what healthcare can learn from military leadership — especially around communication, closing the loop, and building trust — and why emotional intelligence and coaching are essential, not optional, for today's leaders. If you've ever questioned whether you belong in the seat you're in, this conversation will resonate.

Sean Speer and Rudyard Griffiths discuss Prime Minister Mark Carney's appointment of Janice Charette as Canada's chief CUSMA negotiator with the Trump administration. They examine Charette's extensive Ottawa credentials and debate whether her traditional bureaucratic background is an asset or liability when facing off against a MAGA White House. They then explore Carney's broader pattern of appointing Trudeau-era establishment figures, and whether this technocratic, Ottawa-centric approach creates vulnerabilities in an era of populist politics.   The Hub is Canada's fastest growing independent digital news outlet.   Subscribe to The Hub's podcast feed to get our best content when you are on the go: https://tinyurl.com/3a7zpd7e (Apple)  https://tinyurl.com/y8akmfn7 (Spotify) Follow The Hub on X: https://x.com/thehubcanada?lang=en   CREDITS: Amal Attar-Guzman - Producer Elia Gross - Editor Sean Speer and Rudyard Griffiths - Hosts Adrian Wyld/The Canadian Press - Photo Credit   To contact us, sign up for updates, and access transcripts email support@thehub.ca

In our continuing quest to collect the entire AZA Professional Development Committee on the show, we're excited to be joined by Jennifer Charette, Zoo Community Impact Manager at Tessere! Jen shares her unique path from birthday party host to zoo industry professional, the importance of committee service and understanding your "resource engine", how defining her "horizon job" got her to where she is today, why everyone should have an IDP, and why we should probably all let people lean into what they're good at instead of having to fit inside a box.  Also, make sure to stick around until the end to find out the answer to the question: "so....why 'hedgehog'?" If you have a shout-out you'd like us to share, a question or a topic you'd like us to discuss, or a suggestion for a guest we should have on the show, let us know at podcast@naturalencounters.com!
