We're not ending the show!If you read the title, got freaked, and immediately checked the show notes, let us assure you that the announcement isn't the end of Muses of Mythology. Since you're here, we'll give you the short version: The first ten minutes is the start of what was meant to be our Einherjar episode. Then we went off-mic for about 30 minutes to have a serious conversation about some challenges we've experienced recently and the show's future. We're not ending the show. We're not abandoning our journey into Norse mythology. However, we'll only be dedicating one season to Norse myths. We're going to spend the next few episodes covering the rest of the Magnus Chase books. Then we will restructure our episode topics, combining elements of Norse mythology into single episodes that we feel will best result in a quality listening experience. That's the big announcement. After that, we dropped in a 2022 Patreon bonus episode about A24's The Green Knight because we didn't want to leave you without a proper episode. It's a weird one. The energy is all over the place. We haven't felt like ourselves recently, and it's been really hard. But we're excited about this decision and the direction we're taking this season. Thank you so much for your patience and support. We're reworking the show because of our listeners. We aren't ready to end this adventure with you just yet. We'll be back in your ears on Tuesday, April 2, to talk about Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard: The Hammer of Thor. Until then, don't be like Zeus! Today, Manasa (she/her) from Camp Half-Pod joins us to talk about Hades a whole lot! Talking points include the staying power of childhood favorites, translations of The Iliad, the chilling power of marble, and pinpointing exactly when SMITE lore became completely unhinged. "Thetis had to be always on her grind." Mythology has a lot of terrible dads. For once, let's talk about an excellent mother! Thetis did the MOST for her son, Achilles (even when she probably shouldn't). But as Darien (she/her) and DJ (he/him) learn, not even a goddess can save her son from a prophecy. Other topics include Achilles having no chill, DJ's stance on the Ares v. Apollo Flying Chariot Conflict, Darien coming dangerously close to saying a popular myth retelling isn't good, and the mind-blowing connection between Thetis, Sally Jackson, and May Castellan. Spoilers for Lore Olympus, Hades, Clash of the Titans (1981)Content Warning: Sexual assault, kidnapping, death, war, forced marriage, and grief.
