This sermon explores the Ten Plagues (Exodus 7-10), one of the most iconic and disturbing parts of Exodus. The plagues are not random acts of anger but a deliberate act of revelation, raising questions about God's justice, His purpose, and the hardening of Pharaoh's heart.Scripture ReferencesExodus 7:4-5: God's stated purpose: "The Egyptians will know that I am the Lord."Exodus 9:15-16: God tells Pharaoh He could have struck him down at once, but "raised you up to show you my power, so that my name may be proclaimed in all the earth."Exodus 12:12: "On all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgments. I am the Lord."Exodus 12:38: A "mixed group" (including Egyptians) left with Israel.1 Corinthians 10:19-20: What pagans sacrifice, "they offer to demons and not to God."2 Peter 3:9: "The Lord is not slow... but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance."Exodus 15:11: Israel's response: "Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods?"Key PointsThe Purpose of the Plagues: Revelation The plagues are an act of revelation. God's primary stated purpose is "so that the Egyptians will know that I am the Lord." This revelation comes in three forms: Revelation (Yahweh is superior to all gods), Rescue (He fights for His people), and Retribution (He fights against the wicked oppressor). Why Ten Plagues? A Patient Judgment God explicitly says He could have wiped Pharaoh out with one plague. He "raised Pharaoh up" to demonstrate His power to the entire world. This "slowness" was an act of patience (cf. 2 Peter 3:9). It turned up the volume, allowing more people—even a "mixed multitude" of Egyptians—to witness His power, repent, and join the rescue.A War on the "Gods" of Egypt God wasn't just fighting Pharaoh; He was executing judgment "on all the gods of Egypt." This was a supernatural war against the demonic forces behind the idols (1 Cor. 10:20). Each plague was a targeted attack on a specific Egyptian deity (e.g., Plague 1, Blood, attacked Hapi, the god of the Nile; Plague 2, Frogs, attacked Hecate, the frog-headed fertility goddess). The Hardened Heart The text shows a progression: Pharaoh hardens his own heart, then God hardens it. Pharaoh, a wicked ruler, had already chosen his path. God then sovereignly used that stubbornness for His greater purpose: to display His glory to the nations so that more people could be saved.ConclusionThe Egyptians weren't the only ones with false gods. We have our own idols: success, money, power, independence, and the god of self. Sometimes, God must make war on our gods, exposing our false securities and tearing down the things we trust in. He does this not to destroy us, but to expose our idols until all we have left is Him. This is where true worship begins.Calls to ActionIdentify Your Idols: What "gods" (security, success, self) are you trusting in?See God's Hand: If your "gods" are failing, consider if God is making war on them to draw you to Himself.Worship the One True God: Respond as the Israelites did: "Who is like you, O Lord, among the gods?" Welcome back! Today's episode is diving into a super common frustration, "I swear I'm eating in a deficit, but I'm not losing fat". If this sounds familiar, don't worry, your metabolism isn't "broken". What's happening is usually one of two things: either you're intentionally eating more than you think, or you're setting yourself up with habits that increase hunger and push you to overeat. Lee Éxodo 7:14 a 8:19.
Rhonda Hāpi-Smith worked inside the toughest prisons for nearly twenty years. She tells her story
Hapi was Egypt. The life-giving waters of the annual flood (inundation) were his work; and thanks to these waters, Egypt flourished, its people were fed, the gods received their offerings, and the social order was maintained. From the New Kingdom, papyrus and ostraca record songs/poems to the river god, called "Praise (dua) of Hapi." From the days of Ramesses II, we also have elaborate proclamations to the god and his blesings... A Hymn to Hapi (excerpt) Hail to you Hapi, who comes forth from the earth, Who arrives to give life to Egypt (Kemet), Hidden of nature, like darkness in the day, Whose followers sing to him, Who floods the fields, created by Ra, Who causes every herd to live, Who satisfies the desert, which is far from water, He (Hapi) is the moisture, descending from the sky… ... Egypt is awakened; its exhaustion has gone! All the creatures celebrate, when (Hapi) makes the Two Banks green. When he pours forth abundance, among the old and young alike. How lovely the lotus, whose blossoms dot the flood, that they may tell the happiness to come. ... Come, O god (Hapi)… do not be slow! Do not be cruel, reducing what we have, for you might do wrong to the innocent… May you (Hapi) give breath to the nose, when you come. O Hapi, do not sink into the ground… Your perfection is here before us, so that we may turn back to your keeping; and the gods are near… ... What if the key to designing better cities wasn't just in concrete, code, or cost, but in understanding how our brains actually work?In this episode, I talk with Ann Sussman and Kelsey Bradley of the Human Architecture and Planning Institute (HAPI) about a subject that's as profound as it is underdiscussed: how our unconscious biology reacts to the built environment – and how that should change everything about how we design.Ann, architect and author of Cognitive Architecture and Kelsey, founder of Design Cause Inc., now Executive Director at HAPI, walk us through the neuroscience of placemaking. We talk eye tracking. Skin conductivity. Heart rate variability. And how our “Stone Age brains” are still calibrated for the Savannah, even when we're stuck in a strip mall. This episode will validate what many of us feel but can't quite explain why some places energize us, and others quietly drain us. God's deliverance of His people from Egypt was a form of spiritual warfare; and today as we look at Exodus 7 we'll discuss how Satan tried to confuse Pharaoh and the Egyptians back then, and how he's doing the same kinds of things today. And to be strong in the face of spiritual warfare, we need to be on guard and have pure faith and trust in God. DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: 1. For the past several days, we have been studying the Book of Exodus, however, we haven't discussed what the name means. What does the name “Exodus” mean and what was the “exit” that it is referring to? What was the initial reason that this Exodus was to take place? 2. The podcast gave a quick review of Exodus 6 & 7. What was Pharoah's first response to Moses in Exodus 5:2? How did the Jews respond to Moses in Exodus 5:21? Was Moses receiving this flack from these people because he was obeying God or disobeying Him? How did Moses respond in Exodus 5:22? How did the Lord respond to Moses in Exodus 6:1 and following? How do you think you might have reacted to Pharaoh and the people if they responded this way to you? 3. What did God warn Moses about in Exodus 7:3-5? In what ways did this come true? 4. In Exodus 7, how were the Egyptian magicians able to counterfeit the miracles of God? The podcast mentions that Moses and Aaron's age help us answer the question about magic tricks. What was the point that the podcast made about the true source of Moses and Aaron's miracles? 5. The podcast mentioned that the 10 Plagues are excellent examples of spiritual warfare because often Satan seeks to confuse the situation. How did Satan confuse these first plagues and how did Pharaoh and his servants respond? How do people today respond similarly to these kinds of attempts at confusion in their lives? 6. Strength and courage often comes from a strong sense of obedience to God and anticipation that He will work. What commands was Moses obeying in this passage and how was he anticipating the Lord to work? In your day today, are there clear commands from scripture that relate to what you will likely encounter? How might the Lord work in those situations? 7. The podcast mentioned that these plagues all were assaults on the Egyptian false gods. Why did the Jews need to see God's power over Egypt's false gods? What does this show us about God's care and compassion for His people, even when they are struggling in the faith? 8. The podcast mentioned that Hapi was the god of the Nile and fertility. Also, Khnum was the god of the Nile. The Nile was supposed to produce life, but what did it produce instead? How does this show the Lord's power over Hapi, Khnum and also Osiris (who supposedly had the Nile flowing in his bloodstream)? 9. The magicians could turn water into “blood” but could not turn it back. How did this fact demonstrate the reality of Moses' miracles versus the fakery of the magicians? 10. The podcast suggested that the world creates all kinds of fake fantasies to compete with the truth of God. How do people sometimes look at the world's fantasy and think it's more appealing than God's actual truth? 11. Through these miracles, the Lord was calling His people to leave Egypt and not be entangled in their religions. Along these lines, how do His people get entangled in the world today? What is God's call for them today? 12. Although we may not often see God work in such dramatic ways, He does still work in our lives. How have you seen God work in your life? How should that galvanize your own commitment to Him? Check out our Bible Study Guide on the Key Chapters of Genesis! Available on Amazon! In this study we will take a look at the miracles that Yahweh performed on the Egyptians, when Israel was held in bondage, during this period in Exodus. We will see that those miracles were against the Egyptian deities or gods that they worshipped. The story of Moses is not just the story of the freedom of a group of slaves from Egypt in the second millennium BCE. It is the blueprint of the Plan of Salvation of the world as seen from the structure laid down in the Bible.Let's continue our study in Exodus Chapter 4 Verses 6-23. Verses 1-9 Moses third difficulty: the Israelites may not believe his message from freedom (Divine Assurance)Verses 2-5 the first signVerses 6-8 the second signVerses 11-12 Divine AssuranceVerses 14-17 Divine Power and Provision6 Moses' ability to produce and to heal, that most malignant disease would be to them an even more convincing proof of his Divine commission. As white as snow = leprosy was common in Egypt. Ahhh...summer time is finally here and that means we put away our pastry stouts and barleywines for something light, crisp and easy to drink on a warm day. There have been several posts Instagram and Facebook about how Sweden's best pilsner is Helsinge Pilsener. We wanted to test that against one of our favorite Hapi Pils from Hyllie Bryggeri. Helsinge Pilsener is a solid pilsner and defintely fits the bill. We both enjoyed it. Sweden's best? That's another story. Next up is Hapi Pils. This is a New Zealand pilsner. Where Helsinge Pilsener is tasty, Hapi Pils pops. The hops are bright and refreshing. It's easy to drink and you keep reaching for more. It is Sweden's best pilsner? Who knows, but it's in the running. #beer #craftbeer #drinks #pilsner #helsinge #hylliebryggeri
Hapi Hara “Hapi” is the ancient pre-dynastic name for the Nile River. The name later came to represent Hapi, the god of the Nile, who represented the source of life for the Egyptians and other civilizations deep in Africa. Like its namesake, Hapi Hara feels she has been called to help others find their own inner essence or source. Hapi has had a lifelong interest in religion, spirituality, and mysticism across cultures. Her professional studies include an undergraduate degree in the behavioral sciences, a doctoral candidacy in psychology, and additional studies in the Enneagram, Reiki, and crystal energy. She has collected crystals and gemstones from a young age and understands them both mineralogically and energetically effectively synthesizing their properties through the sciences of chemistry and crystallography with their subtle energetic properties. Not only is she experienced with stones and crystals at the mineralogical level, she has also traveled to many sacred earth locations including mountain peaks, vortexes, volcanoes, canyons, ley lines, and megalithic stone sites such as Stonehenge and Carnac. Tapping into the ancient alchemical practice of crystal astrology, she identifies crystals that strategically heal, balance, and empower points in a person's horoscope. The new moon occurs when the feminine energy of the moon aligns with the masculine energy of the sun. This is a sacred alchemical alignment of lunar and solar energies and allows for the planting of seeds in our life...sacred intentions and spiritual awakening. The full moon occurs when the sun and moon are opposing each other causing tension and balance creating a way for us to manifest our intention. The new moon and full moon cycles of the month represent times to increase the meditation of our intentions and spiritual practice. Working with crystals helps to intensify, purify, and activate our intentions. Each month, we provide dates for the new moon, full moon, eclipses, and other significant planetary events including information about crystals that are helpful in working with these sacred alignments that potently influence our lives. Learn more about crystal astrology in our blog. See our Astrology Calendar of upcoming new and full moon dates.

DISCUSSION AND STUDY QUESTIONS: Exodus 7 1. “I will bring judgment on all the gods of Egypt. I am the Lord.” — Exodus 12:12 When Moses and Pharaoh face off, the biblical text makes clear that this is not merely a battle of wills between human leaders. Rather, the God of Israel is making war against the gods of Egypt. The Nile River was the very heart of the Egyptian empire. Egypt depended on the Nile for crops, transport, and trade, making it powerful in its prosperity, politics, and religion. So when God goes to war against the Egyptian gods, a number of the plagues strike at Egypt's very heart. For example, the first plague turns the waters of the Nile into blood. So there is no water for drinking or fishing or crops, making life very difficult for the Egyptians. Of course, this plague had deep spiritual significance too. It meant that Egypt's gods of the Nile (Sobek, Hapi, and Knuum) and its great fertility god (Osiris) had no power over the one true God. Osiris was also the supposed divine ancestor of the pharaohs who guided them into the afterlife. The true Lord and Creator of the heavens and the earth showed that Egypt's gods were all false. Egypt and its king were powerless to stand in the way of God rescuing his people. In what ways do we see God's power at work against false gods in our world today? Lord and giver of life and death, we praise you that nothing in the spiritual realm or on the earth can separate us from your love, most clearly revealed in Jesus, our Savior. Amen.
