Guyana's latest crude stream is due to reach the market in the third quarter, adding 250,000 b/d to the South American country's production capacity. Output has climbed rapidly since Guyana's Liza grade made its debut in late 2019. This time, however, the new Yellowtail development will be bringing more light sweet crude to the market, which will compete with exports from Argentina and the US. How can Guyana compete at current oil prices, with WTI currently trading below $60/b? What does Yellowtail mean for the US production outlook? Who are the likely buyers for this Guyanese crude? Join Jeff Mower, director of Americas Oil News, as he discusses these issues and more with Platts crude price editor Jada Johnson and Felipe Perez, S&P Global Commodity Insights head of Latin America Fuels & Refining Research and Strategy. Song propelled Morris Stuart from his early life shepherding sheep in British Guyana to an unlikely love story in London. In his retirement, he found himself shaping a choir of Central Australian Aboriginal women, who had been breathing life into 138-year-old Lutheran hymns.Morris Stuart met his Australian wife, Barbara in London in the 1960s.The pair led a youth group attached to a nearby church, and initially tried to ignore their growing feelings for each other.Morris was a young, Guyanese activist who was descended from African slaves, and wasn't ready to face the social reality of marrying across racial lines.Morris and Barb fell in love and married several years before the film Guess Who's Coming to Dinner? was released, and featured at several screenings in London, where community members could ask them questions as a real life, interracial couple. The couple went on to have four children and moved to Australia, where Morris became a pastor with a community church in Melbourne. In their retirement, Morris and Barbara developed relationships with the Warlpiri community in Central Australia. They arrived in Alice Springs in 2005 and Morris started recruiting for a choir.More Indigenous communities started joining in and Morris formed the Central Australian Aboriginal Women's choir. They performed hymns brought by German Lutheran missionaries to the region in the late 19th Century, which were translated into Pitjantjatjara and Western Arrernte. The choir's biggest achievement is a tour to Germany in 2015 — to perform the hymns that had all but vanished from use in Germany, but have been preserved in the Central Australian desert for 138 years.Follow the Central Australian Aboriginal Women's Choir on Facebook.Watch the documentary about the Central Australian Aboriginal Women's Choir tour to Germany, The Song Keepers. This episode of Conversations touches on heritage, epic life story, origin stories, church, personal stories, childhood and reflection.

On this episode, we talk with Klassic Frescobar. Klassik's blend of Jamaican Dancehall influence fused into Soca & Calypso sound is the perfect mix. His commanding high energy vocals with the sweet soca vibe creates a unique style that is radiant. Klassik Frescobar's musical influence began in the early ‘90s in his hometown of Kingston, Jamaica in the Constant Spring Gardens area. After getting a hold of his mother's cassette player and hearing early tunes from Bounty Killa, Sean Paul and Beanie Man his mind was committed to music. After migrating to the Bronx in New York, Klassik spent most of his time creating rap music but stayed close to his roots by attending local Dancehall parties. Throughout that time he built relationships with local DJs and producers including the Jamaican born Brooklyn native Ricky Blaze. In 2014 Klassik would migrate to Miami where he would work closely with Guyanese rapper Red Cafe who would introduce him to local DJs and party scenes. After hard work and deliberation Klassik made a name in the Miami Soca scene with records “Boom” , “Bee Sting” & “Chair” His current viral record "Looking Good" on the "Code Red Riddim", facilitated the #LookingGoodChallenge which garnered over three million Twitter and TikTok views respectively. The challenge promotes dancers from around the world to record themselves dancing to the song . Since then Klassik has released bigger records such as “Like Dat Remix” featuring GBM Nutron, “Whoopsy” featuring Boidingo and “Too Much” with Marzville.

In this episode of "The Life Shift Podcast," Ashley Menzies Babatunde, a former attorney turned DEI strategist and storyteller, shares her life-shifting moments, particularly her experience with failing the California bar exam, and how these experiences led her to redefine her understanding of success, self-worth, and resilience. The conversation delves into the importance of human connection, storytelling, and the journey behind success. The Impact of Failure and ResilienceAshley discusses her pivotal life-shift moment when she failed the California bar exam, not once but twice, which led to losing her first job out of law school. This experience was a significant deviation from her previously linear path of success. Ashley highlights the anxiety and emotional turmoil she faced during this period, which was compounded by the high expectations she had set for herself. However, this failure became a powerful lesson in resilience, teaching her the importance of getting up and trying again despite setbacks. The Power of Storytelling and VulnerabilityOne of the most transformative aspects of Ashley's journey was the role of storytelling and vulnerability. After failing the bar exam, she found solace and strength in the stories shared by others who had faced similar challenges. This human connection and realizing she was not alone in her struggles motivated her to share her story through a blog post. This act of vulnerability not only helped her heal but also connected her with a broader community, highlighting the profound impact of sharing personal experiences and being open about one's failures.Redefining Success and Self-WorthThroughout the episode, Ashley reflects on how her understanding of success and self-worth evolved through her experiences. Initially, she had tied her self-worth to her accolades and accomplishments. However, the challenges she faced, especially with the bar exam, forced her to reassess these notions. She realized that her self-worth stemmed from her humanity, resilience, and ability to persevere rather than external achievements. This shift in perspective allowed her to embrace a more holistic and compassionate view of herself and her journey.Guest BioAshley Menzies Babatunde is a lawyer, storyteller, founder, and DEIB strategist passionate about work at the intersection of humanity and career. She is the host, creator, and producer of No Straight Path, a podcast exploring the human stories behind success. As an LA native with Black American and Guyanese roots, Ashley believes in the power of storytelling because it allows people to connect, inspire each other, and build empathy.Ashley graduated from Harvard Law School and received her B.A. in political science from Stanford University. Deborah's latest project is a bit strange shall we say...stranger than fiction but inspired by real life! Deborah takes us on an audio journey with her current project --the award-winning independent film Strange Fruit: The Hip-hopera. Find out how a recurring nightmare turned into an artistic venture and tells a tale of contemporary and historic truth that we can all learn from.  It's not just a film; it's a modern approach to storytelling in which we tell our own stories to ignite critical conversations about the construct of race in our country, all while doing so to the musical beats and lyrics of hip hop.  Broadway here we come! A child of Guyanese immigrants who were one of the only Black families in suburban Orange County, Cali; Ya'll the neighbors couldn't handle it and moved! Adam shares the ups and downs of being miscultured and misidentified, all while navigating Paul's slurred questions and Mitchel and Will's side commentary. In this short, booze-fueled ride comedic yet insightful exploration of identity and life advice pours freely, with plenty of laughs and a dash of wisdom.

Previously ranked among the hemisphere's poorest countries, Guyana is becoming a global leader in per capita oil production, a shift which promises to profoundly transform the nation. This sea change presents a unique opportunity to dissect both the environmental impacts of modern-world resource extraction and the obscured yet damaging ways in which intersectional race and gender formations circumscribe Caribbean women's lives. Drawing from archival research and oral history, and examining mass-mediated flashpoints across the African and Indian diasporas―including Rihanna's sonic routes, ethnic conflict reportage, HBO's Lovecraft Country, and Netflix's Indian Matchmaking―Global Guyana: Shaping Race, Gender, and Environment in the Caribbean and Beyond (NYU Press, 2024) repositions this marginalized nation as a nexus of social and economic activity which drives popular culture and ideas about sexuality while reshaping the geopolitical and literal topography of the Caribbean region. Oneka LaBennett employs the powerful analytic of the pointer broom to disentangle the symbiotic relationship between Guyanese women's gendered labor and global racial capitalism. She illuminates how both oil extraction and sand export are implicated in a well-established practice of pillaging the Caribbean's natural resources while masking the ecological consequences that disproportionately affect women and children. Global Guyana uncovers how ecological erosion and gendered violence are entrenched in extractive industries emanating from this often-effaced but pivotal country. Sounding the alarm on the portentous repercussions that ambitious development spells out for the nation's people and its geographical terrain, LaBennett issues a warning for all of us about the looming threat of global environmental calamity. Oneka LaBennett is Associate Professor of American Studies and Ethnicity and Gender and Sexuality Studies at the University of Southern California. She's the author of She's Mad Real: Popular Culture and West Indian Girls in Brooklyn and co-editor of Racial Formation in the Twenty-First Century. Where is Matavén, you may well ask? So, this week on the Colombia Calling podcast, we discuss an award-winning community tourism project with people of the Piaroa indigenous community and the Colombian Project. Joining us on the podcast is Camilo Ortega, product manager of the Colombian Project. The Matavén Jungle is the fourth largest Indigenous Reservation in Colombia, with an extension of 1,849,613 hectares and located in the north-eastern area of the department of Vichada, between the Vichada rivers to the north, Orinoco to the east, Guaviare to the south and the Chupave canal to the west. Today it constitutes one of the last refuges of the transition forest between the Colombian Amazon and Orinoquía region. This territory has a great diversity of landscapes and different habitats such as floodplains, large stone hills of the Guyanese shield, or open savannah areas in the middle of its jungles. Its name is due to the Matavén river, which crosses this extensive region in a west-east direction. Approximately 10,500 indigenous people live in the Matavén Jungle, distributed among the Sikuani, Piapoco, Piaroa, Pinave, Curripaco, and Cubeo tribes. This characteristic of multiculturalism that exists in the reservation makes this region a space of great importance for the conservation of the existing natural and cultural heritage. https://www.colombianproject.com www.patreon.com/colombiacalling
