A born-and-raised Vancouverite, Richard's journey through the corporate world and entrepreneurship has taught him many lessons along the way. Memento is derived from the Latin word Memento Mori which literally means, "Remember that you must die." That phrase really resonated with me and is reflected accurately on Richard's journey in entrepreneurship thus far. We truly only have one life so it's important to make the most out of it. Richard was like many new college graduates and decided to go into banking because it was a great place to kickstart your career and get your foot in the door. After climbing the corporate ladder and feeling burnt out Richard handed in his 2 weeks notice and called it quits. He had no back-up, no job lined up. He just quit. It just so happened that a friend of his, Will approached him to expand Garrison Bespoke, a custom tailoring suit company to Vancouver. Garrison was Richard's first taste of entrepreneurship and he never looked back. He learned important lessons on storytelling, listening, and understanding your client's needs and being extremely relatable. Richard took his knowledge in digital marketing and sales to launch Memento Digital Group. Timur went from being an international student from Kazakhstan and having a regular 9-5 job to owning and advising multi-million dollar amazon businesses in the supplement space within 2 years of college graduation. Tim came from very humble beginnings and hit the ground running when he first landed in Vancouver. He was so focused on his studies that he never left the Simon Fraser Campus in Burnaby during his first year of University. Tim actually started his first amazon business while in college and it was not a success. Things were never easy and Tim almost didn't take the leap of faith. He had to quit his 9-5 job and take out a line of credit to cover his living expenses to start his second Amazon business. For three months straight, Timur consumed every single piece of content available online and went to work. In the first month, Timur did over $100,000 in sales and the rest is history. On today's episode, I'm joined by Zain Jan, he's best known as the founder & CEO of Better Earth. We have the opportunity to learn about Zain's journey and how he grew two 8-figure companies by 24. Zain came from an immigrant family, raised outside Boston. His parents both worked significant hours and he barely got to see them. All throughout school, Zain was constantly tested for learning disabilities or behavioral issues. His dislike of public schooling reflected on his poor grades. Zain did end up going to college more so for making connections and not to study. With great self-awareness, Zain realized college wasn't for him and dropped out to pursue business. He was recruited by Aaron Katz to work at Bright Planet Solar and eventually got recruited by Solar City and built the larges sales office at 20. On today's episode, I'm joined by Luis Jorge Rios. We get the opportunity to sit down with Luis and talk about his journey from a combat war veteran to working with high influencers in media press today. Luis Jorge Rios is a combat veteran who served 10 years in the US Army with deployment to Iraq and Afghanistan. Graduating with a degree in counter-terrorism his first part of his career was spent in the intelligence community traveling to Israel and Spain. Venturing into sales Luis dominated high ticket sales using the skills he has learned from military intelligence. This lead him to work for charity events and nonprofit organizations where they asked for him to sell sponsorships and raise large amounts of capital. Luis successfully raised over 1.5 million. He was able to work with a nonprofit sponsored by the Mark Cuban foundation and later on was mentored by Mark Cuban. This allowed him to venture into the world of press and events such as TEDx where he organizes them. Luis now works with high influencers in the press and with TEDx. He has interviewed many celebrities and is well-known to help people become of influence and enter high-status venues.
