Celtic cruised to a second successive win of the Premiership campaign at the weekend and Brendan Rodgers' has his side playing some impressive stuff in the early weeks of the season. But whilst he and his players continue to do their bit on the park, it remains to be seen if those behind the scenes can do their bit off it and to provide the necessary re-enforcements to the first team squad. As always at this time of year signing rumours swirl around cyberspace but the time for real action is fast approaching with now less than 3 weeks of the window remaining. One man who won't be making any moves this window is skipper Callum McGregor and we take a look at his decision to step down from international duty in order to fully focus on all things Celtic. A move that most – including his manager – seem pretty happy with!
Celtic head to Edinburgh for Sunday's lunchtime kick off where they'll to take on Hibs in Scottish Premiership Matchday 2 Brendan Rodgers will be looking for more of the same after last week's opening day win but will be coming up against a relatively unknown force in David Gray's new look Hibs side, and so will have to be at their best. Kyogo, Khun, Reo and O'Riley were all in fine form last week and more of the same should give the manager confidence as he looks to make it two wins from two!
Celtic picked up where they left off last season by cruising past Kilmarnock in league action! It was a four goal fiesta on Flag Day on a day of celebration at Celtic Park but frustration remains at the lack of new signings as the clock ticks down on the summer window. Is former CEO Peter Lawwell to blame for some of that though, or is the current Chairman a convenient bogeyman for fans to blame? We cover it all and much more in this latest episode.
Having worked on some of the best loved Scottish comedy of our times – including Scotch & Rye, City Lights & Rab C Nesbitt – Phil Differ knows a thing or two about making people laugh. He's also of course the creator of Only An Excuse, where alongside a host of contributors such as Tony Roper and Jonathan Watson he's been looking at the lighter side of on Scottish Football from as far back as 1986. Whilst comedy has played a huge part in Phil's life, so too has Celtic, and he recalls the privilege of seeing the Lisbon Lions in their prime as an 11 year old boy in 1967, before then going on to meet them in the flesh many years later. In general terms Phil urges caution when it comes to meeting your heroes, but discards that theory completely when it came to a “bunch of guys from Bellshill, Viewpark & Saltcoats” who won club football's biggest prize and wrote their names into the history books forever. Enjoy this brilliant special episode as Tino sits down with Phil to discuss a life in comedy, a life in Scottish Football, and a life in Celtic. ==================================
Celtic have an incredible opportunity to go big this summer. We're the current League and Scottish Cup holders. Financially the club has never been better placed. We're guaranteed Champions league football in the season ahead. And we may be on the cusp of recouping £25M+ for star man Matt O'Riley. There are very few risks in finally pushing the boat out. But, will the powers that be make the moves that would take us to a new level? Will they back Brendan Rodgers accordingly and show the same level of ambition that he and the fans desire for the club? History tells us no. Optimism tells us maybe. But someday soon someone will have to start telling us something, as yet another summer window rumbles on!

After the high of the Centenary Season in 1988, Celtic had been going through a bit of a sticky patch, but a rare victory over their great rivals Rangers in the Cup in 1990 was cause for optimism. And as the Celtic-daft Devlin family celebrated later that night , there was a knock at the door of their Croy home. It was a very strange man...wearing a bunnet...with a plan! And this visit kicked off a series of events that would change the history of Celtic, forever. The next few years were going to be a rollercoaster for every Celtic supporter! ************************************************************************************ Following the successes of 'Bend It Like Brattbakk' & 'Bend It Like Bertie', Jim Orr's latest Celtic play focuses on an unforgettable time in Celtic history as we stared football oblivion in the face during the 1990's. Jim joined us on The Celtic Exchange to speak about those times as well as about this latest project which will be hitting theatres this October! Archie Macpherson is a bonafide Scottish Football icon having began his career as a broadcaster with the BBC over 60 years ago. His time in the game has brought him into close contact with many legendary figures - including some of the greatest Celts of all time - and in the final part of our exclusive 3-part series he shares with us his experiences as a close confidante of Jock Stein - the man who changed the course of Celtic's history forever! Having first encountered the great man as a wet behind the ears new start at the BBC, Archie went on to form a genuine bond with the man rightly regarded as Celtic's greatest ever manager, spending time with him at Cup Finals, at World Cups, and of course in Lisbon. It's now almost 40 years since Jock's sad passing and Archie also tells us poignantly of that night in Cardiff in 1985 as Jock played out his final game.
Archie Macpherson is a bonafide Scottish Football icon having began his career as a broadcaster with the BBC over 60 years ago. His time in the game has brought him into close contact with many legendary figures - including some of the greatest Celts of all time - and in part 2 of our exclusive 3 part series he shares his experiences of being in Lisbon for the greatest day in Celtic's history! In his role as a commentator for the BBC Archie made his way to Portugal alongside thousands of Celtic fans where he would play his own unique role in covering the game in person at Estadio Nacional. Its an experience he describes as "overwhelming" and as you'll hear it's one which very nearly didn't happen for the budding young broadcaster - but thankfully for Archie, and now for us, his persistence paid off! This is the re-telling of a very special story in our history from Archie's own unique perspective and one which we're sure Celtic supporters of all ages will enjoy.
Archie Macpherson is a bonafide Scottish Football icon having began his career as a broadcaster with the BBC over 60 years ago. His time in the game has brought him into close contact with many legendary figures - including some of the greatest Celts of all time - and in part 1 of our exclusive 3 part series he talks candidly about the Celtic Rangers rivalry and how its evolved since his earliest memory of the fixture, way back in 1949. His highly acclaimed book on the subject, "More Than A Game" centres on the 'Hampden Riots' of 1980, following a Scottish Cup Final clash between the two sides, but also features the gritty details of some of the most significant meetings of the two - on and off the park - over the decades.

Adam Idah's Hampden winner at the weekend means Celtic have now lifted the Scottish Cup Trophy 42 times in our fabled history – and Matt Corr's been there for almost half of those! The Celtic Author & Historian has experiences of being amongst crowds of over 100,000 at the National Stadium in the 70s, right up until our most recent triumph and joins us here on The Celtic Exchange to tell us of his Top 5 (ish!) Scottish Cup memories. Matt's no stranger to a trip to Hampden but right now he's on the eve of a very different type of trip in the name of Celtic, but it's one that's equally special in its own way. Along with a dozen other volunteers Matt and his brother Robert will be travelling to Malawi with Celtic FC Foundation to support the incredible work carried out there by Classrooms For Malawi (CFM) organisation. It's one which has been a few years in the making and Matt in his capacity as author, historian and all round knowledge in Celtic is offering something a little different in his efforts to raise funds for this most worthwhile of causes. James Forrest stepped up in a big way against Dundee to show that his star performance at Hampden against Aberdeen last week was no flash in the pan. The experienced winger is ready to play his part in the run-in and Celtic's No.49 couldn't have timed it any better. Whilst Forrest is flying, fellow Academy graduate Callum McGregor has found himself out of sorts following his own return from injury but there's no doubting just how important both players may be in the coming weeks. Elsewhere we take a look at some of Celtic' loan Bhoys and the recent change of structure which may see more of them make their way into the First Team picture. Finally Tino & James share their memories from Estadio Nacional as they reflect on a trip to the hallowed turf on a very special date in Celtic history last week. Join Tino, Paddy, James & Mif on this very latest episode of The Celtic Exchange Weekly as Celtic chalk up anither vital three points in the title race. ================================== All Celtic Exchange episodes are now available on YouTube
Celtic have made a habit of 3-3 draws in recent weeks though on this occasion a penalty shootout would follow with man of the moment Joe Hart proving to be the Hoops hero on the day. It's been some weekend for the nan who turned 37 on Friday and he now knows his long and illustrious career will end with the showpiece finale at Hampden park on Saturday 25th of May. Another experienced campaigner in the shape of James Forrest also proved his worth against Aberdeen with a vital contribution from the bench, prompting many to suggest that he should play a far more prominent role in the remaining weeks of the campaign. We now know exactly what lies in store and if Celtic can successfully navigate the five remaining league games as well as the Scottish Cup Final against Rangers then we could be in for a spectacular end to the season. A week can be a long time in football. Rangers had the chance to leapfrog Celtic into top spot with a win in last week's derby at Ibrox, but failure to do so (do "moral victorys" count?) has cost them badly. Further failure in Dingwall by Phillipe Clement's men has now left the Hoops with a four point lead in the title race as a Reo Hatate inspired performance ensured it was the green side of Glasgow who were celebrating after another weekend of high drama in the title race. In addition to the impact of the returning Hatate, team-mates Cameron Carter-Vickers, Alistair Johnstone, Kyogo and others have found form at the best possible time as the Bhoys focus in on a potential league and cup double. Brendan Rodgers too is in buoyant mood, declaring this as the stage of the season when "Celtic come alive!" And it couldn't come at a better time! It was vital that Celtic followed up last week's perfomance at Ibrox with a win over St Mirren today and that's exactly what they done with a convincing display against the Paisley side. Conditions played their part in the first half but the Hoops came out the traps after the break to fire home three goals without reply as they extended their lead at the top of the table. Brendan Rodgers was in buoyant mood after the game, stressing that this is the phase of the season that Celtic come alive. There's no better time for the Bhoys to do so! On a day of high drama at Ibrox Celtic done what they had to do on the day to ensure that the destiny of this season's title remains firmly in our own hands. With just six league games now remaining the Bhoys know exactly what's required if a third successive title is to be achieved and will take great confidence from their performance against Rangers, and in particular across the first half. We cover the fallout from an action packed 90 minutes as well as looking at the overall contributions in green and white of Adam Idah and Paulo Bernardo, as the loanees combined perfectly for our third goal on the day. Elsewhere the result sees Brendan Rodgers enhance his phenomenal Glasgow Derby record as the manager chases down more silverware to the seven trophies he won here first time around. Despite holding the lead at various points in the game Celtic had to ultimately settle for a share of the points on a day of high drama at Ibrox. Six goals and two penalties tell some of the story as Brendan Rodgers' side took the game to their Glasgow rivals before securing their 7th point across this season's three derbies so far. Yes there's disappointment at not holding out for the win, but ultimately the ball is now firmly in Celtic's court in terms of the title race. Put simply, win the remaining six fixtures and we retain the title. Bring it on.
