Enda, James and Alan look back on the Derby win, the St Mirren win, how Bernardo is starting to show good signs and analyse Matt O'Riley's impact after 100 games. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
Celtic made it 4 wins from 4 with a convincing 3-0 victory in Paisley and now head into the winter break 8 points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table. Hot on the heels of his goalscoring performance in the Glasgow Derby Paulo Bernardo was at it again, providing two assists and taking home the man of the match award for his night's work. Not far behind was Matt O'Riley - making his 100th appearance for Celtic - who added another goal and an assist to his tally. Daizen Maeda and Greg Taylor were the other goalscorers in a convincing display all round for the Hoops who can now relax and regroup before returning to Scottish Cup action on the 21st of the month. Things have felt a bit flat at Celtic in recent weeks but the Bhoys blew all that away on Wednesday night with a complete and controlled performance against Nick Montgomery's Hibs. Brendan Rodgers rang the changes with both Tomoki Iwata and Mikey Johnston stepping in for rare starts and both played their part as the new look starting XI roared into an early lead against the Edinburgh side with Oh getting credit for the opener. Further goals from Matt O'Riley, Luis Palma and Oh's second made sure of the points with a late consolation goal as good as it got for Hibs. It maintains the gap at the top of the table and the Hoops can now look forward to Sunday's lunchtime clash with Kilmarnock at Rugby Park. Celtic take on Atletico Madrid on Matchday 4 of this season's Champions League and it's a massive fixture for Brendan Rodgers and his players as they take on the Spanish giants. A positive result will be required if we're to have realistic ambitions of European football after Christmas but the Bhoys proved just two weeks ago at Celtic Park that they're more than capable of competing with Diego Simeone's side. Key players Matt O'Riley, Kyogo, Daizen Maeda and Luis Palma were all rested from the starting XI at the weekend and along with their team-mates will be raring to go for this one. Celtic flew into an early lead at Tynecastle thanks to man of the moment Matt O'Riley and in truth never looked back from that moment on as they restored their seven point gap at the top of the table. The Bhoys are working through the gears under Brendan Rodgers and we'll see just how far we've come when Atletico Madrid come calling in this week's Champions League. One man who provided a timely reminder of what he can offer is Japanese powerhouse Tomoki Iwata who smashed home his first goal for the Hoops. The midfielder has been working away in the background and may well play a part against the Spaniards in midweek. Elsewhere the club and the Green Brigade remain at loggerheads following recent statements regarding the ongoing conflict in the Middle East/ We discuss the fans' right to protest should they decide to do so on Wednesday night and beyond. Matt O'Riley continued his phenomenal early season form with another stunning strike at Tynecastle as the Hoops restored their seven point lead at the top of the Scottish premiership table. He was joined in the scoring charts by Japanese trio Daizen Maeda, Kyogo Furuhashi & Tomoki Iwata as Celtic demolished the Edinburgh side. Celtic head in to a huge game on Matchday 2 of this season's Champions League knowing that a win on the night would give a massive boost to our aspirations of European football beyond Christmas. Maurizio Sarri's Lazio provide the opposition and despite a poor start to their domestic campaign they'll be buoyed by a 1-1 draw with Atletico Madrid on Matchday 1. Celtic Park will be absolutely bouncing by the time the 8pm kick off comes around however and with players like Matt O'Riley at the top of his game, and with Kyogo a constant threat it could be a pivotal night for Brendan Rodgers side. Fresh from signing a new extended deal at the club, Matt O'Riley ghosted in at the back post on Saturday and with a 97th minute volley ensured that Celtic would be taking a fourth away win from four in this season's Scottish Premiership. His team-mate Reo Hatate had also put pen to paper on new terms just 24h prior to mark a great few days for the club on and off the park. Meanwhile things have started to unravel on the other side of the city, whilst Brendan Rodgers side seem to be going from strength to strength – at least domestically. The challenge now it to echo that form on the European stage and a win on Wednesday against Lazio in Matchday 2 of this season Champions League would be the perfect time to do so. On a day where Celtic look destined for a draw, top Bhoy Matt O'Riley stepped up in the dying seconds to ensure all three points would be making their way back to Celtic Park. Summer signing Luis Palma thought he had scored the winner himself just minutes earlier, before Blair Spittal drew the Steelmen level on the 95th minute. This Celtic side refuse to lie down however and on the day when his new deal was confirmed by the club O'Riley smashed home his fifth of the season to show just why he's so important to Brendan Rodgers' side. The win ensures the Hoops remain in pole position at the top of the table and can now look ahead to Wednesday's Champions League clash full of the confidence that such a late win brings. The win over Livingston felt like a significant result for Brendan Rodgers, both in terms of scoreline and performance, as he continues to win over any remaining doubters in his second spell as manager. He was helped in that quest at the weekend by an opportune PR moment following the final whistle, but it's fair to say he's sitting in a good place with supporters after big away wins at Pittodrie, Ibrox and now Livingston. Elsewhere we were once again bamboozled by the enigmatic Daizen Maeda as he turned in what's now viewed as a typical mind-blowing performance. It's hard to assess a player who misses from 3 yards and then scores from 20 but that's where we find ourselves with our Japanese Bhoy. Meanwhile his fellow goalscorer Matt O'Riley continues to shine and looks set to be rewarded with a full cap for the Danish national team. Talks continue on an extended contract for the classy midfielder who's fast become Celtic's main man this season. Celtic are finally back in competitive action, and finished the opening weekend of the season exactly where we finished at the end of last season – at the very top of the Scottish Premiership table! The win against Ross County wasn't perhaps as routine as the scoreline suggests but there were plenty of positive takeaways from Matchday 1. A Man of the Match display from two goal David Turnbull, some Kyogo magic in and out of the penalty box, and a rare right footed strike from Matt O'Riley. We also witnessed what looks like a farewell appearance from Swedish stopper Carl Starfelt and he'll go with everyone's best wishes following two very successful seasons at the club. With 3 weeks of the transfer window remaining there's now some additional work to be done and it remains to be seen what Brendan Rodgers will prioritise between now and September 1st. Three points clear already, normal service resumes! Celtic did their talking on the pitch as always, gubbing Ross County 4-2 and Reidzo talks with Stevie about todays season opener, although it wasn't quite the hammering the scoreline possibly reflects, albeit Celtic never had to play at their best to win convincingly anyways. We debate Hatate's scowling persona, Starfelt likely away, Turnbull's fine display and Matt O'Riley's goal being eerily similar to Gary Hooper's April 2012 finish. Oh and the goalie position is discussed as well. Instagram and Threads: @GIGPOD Music Credit - The Motion - Where Is My Mind? Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
The Press Gang is a podcast that presents the audio from Celtic press conferences that The Cynic attend.Today we present to you todays Press Conference featuring Matt O'Riley and Ange Postecoglou.Colin Kearney was in attendance.
Celtic justifiably swept the boards at the annual end of season awards this weekend, with Kyogo, Jota, Matt O'Riley and Ange Postecoglou all receiving individual awards for their efforts across the campaign. With the league and league cup safely in the bag, and with an unprecedented 8th domestic treble still to play for, it was the only logical outcome. Such is the collective spirit amongst the squad however that each of the winners would trade the individual awards in a heartbeat if it guaranteed treble success at Hampden next month. Ange will have much to think about between now and then following the result at Ibrox, but he'll undoubtedly have learned a lot about some of his players following the rare defeat, and he'll be sure to put that knowledge to practice as his ongoing evolution of the squad continues. A win at Celtic Park on Saturday would strike a hammer blow to any slim hopes Rangers have of getting back into the title race – and would also put down an important psychological marker ahead of the upcoming Scottish Cup Semi-Final. Injury forced Ange's hand in the Highlands, with fringe players such as Iwata, Bernabei, Haksabanovic, Turnbull and Oh all providing a timely reminder of what they can offer at this crucial stage in the season. The manager will now have some huge calls to make as he looks to propel the team into an unassailable 12 point lead in the quest for back to back League Titles. New signing Oh smashed home his first goal for Celtic at the weekend - a strike which was also our 100th of the 2022/23 season. Shortly after, Matt O'Riley and Reo Hatate nudged that figure up to 102 as this relentless Celtic side show no sign of letting up in front of goal. The goalscoring figures for our 36 games in all competitions are incredible, and with potentially 17 games left to play Ange Postecoglou's men could be set to blow all previous records out the water! Ange Postecoglou's men were relentless from first whistle as they ruthlessly exposed the deficiencies of their Glasgow rivals in a one sided match at Celtic Park. Liel Abada was the star of the show with two clinical strikes in the first half but was followed closely by a midfield trio of Callum McGregor, Matt O'Riley and Liel Abada who ensured Celtic took full control of this one from an early stage. The win means Celtic maintain their 100% start to the league campaign with six wins from six in the league, and a total of 25 goals scored so far., with just one conceded. It's formidable form at this early stage in the season and sets the Bhoys up perfectly for a challenge of a different kind as European Champions Real Madrid come calling in our opening Champions League fixture on Tuesday night. Tino & Brydo were on the mics to review all the key talking points from another sensational performance at Celtic Park.

Celtic made history at the weekend as they recorded their biggest ever away win in the Scottish top flight with a 9-0 annihilation of Dundee United at Tannadice. Kyogo Furuhashi and Liel Abada both grabbed hat-tricks on the day with Jota, Josip Juranovic and Carl Starfelt also getting involved in the goal scoring action. Reo Hatate and Matt O'Riley continue to shine in the midfield and were both excellent on the day as the Hoops continued their 100% start to the league campaign. Elsewhere excitement builds following a Champions League draw which has paired us alongside European giants real Madrid, Shakhtar Donetsk of Ukraine, and Leipzig from the Bundesliga. It all kicks off next week at Celtic Park as Champions League holders Real Madrid come calling on Matchday 1 of this seasons tournament. Players and fans alike are eagerly anticipating their arrival as Ange Postecoglou takes his first steps as a manager on to European football's biggest stage. Before all that Celtic have a league cup tie at Ross County to contend with, as well as the small matter of the first Glasgow Derby of the season, as the Bhoys head into a relentless run of fixtures between now and this year's World Cup in November. It'll be a testing time for this side, but Ange and his players wouldn't have it any other way! This week will also see the summer transfer window slam shut, and following the arrival of Montenegran winger Sead Haksabanovic we may still see some ins and outs at Celtic Park as Ange continues to fine tune his squad for the season ahead. Tino, Mif & James discuss all of the above and more in this week's episode of TCE Tuesday. Celtic run out 3-2 winners in a 5 goal thriller against Aberdeen at Pittodrie in a true game of two halves. Jota showing his path back to fitness with two clever goals and Matt O'Riley getting a well deserved first strike for Celtic after a fantastic start to his career with the hoops. After a lacklustre first half Aberdeen came out for the second 45 with all guns blazing and got their rewards with two early set piece goals. Celtic replied quickly to re-establish their lead and closed the match out for a hugely impotant win. James, from the comfort of his sofa and Tino, from the discomfort of chilly Aberdeen were on the mics to bring you all the key talking points from Pittodrie.

LIEL Abada nearly took the roof off of Celtic Park with his late, late strike on Saturday and it's now perfectly poised as we head into Wednesday's Glasgow Derby in Paradise. Tino, Mif & Sinky were on the mics this week to dissect all the drama of the last gasp win over Dundee United as well as the crucial victory against Hearts last midweek. Next up it's the big one though and the lads focus on what we can expect from Wednesday night under the disco lights as Ange Postecoglou's new look Celtic look to top the table for the first time this season with a victory over Rangers. How will Ange prepare his squad for this one? What will his starting line-up look like? And who will we be the key men to fire us to the top of the table? The home support will be in full voice by the time kick off comes around, and with no away support in attendance a special welcome will await the players as they look to take a pivotal step in this season's title race. We also cover what was a far more relaxing transfer deadline day than in previous seasons given the early activity that brought in 5 exciting new signings in the shape of Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate, Yosuki Ideguchi, Johnny Kenny & Matt O'Riley. There may well be a few late exits with the likes of Adam Montgomery (Aberdeen) and Osaze Urhoighide (KV Oostende) joining Liam Shaw in making loan moves but by and large it's been a quite end to the window and most fans are pleased with the approach Ange and the Celtic board have taken as the development of his squad continues.. Celtic play on Wednesday Night away to Hearts in the next league game and its a must win. JP Sam Ryan chatted about how it will be a tough game as always and expect Hearts to be in Celtic's faces.. will Matt O'Riley start? Jota to come back in? Barkas rumoured to be leaving along with Montgomery? good for both? Wim Jansen Tribute.. The man who stopped the 10.. suddenly passed away today.. Condolences to his family and friends.. Celtic hero to us all and will never be forgotten by the Club and Fans. RIP Wim.
CELTIC announced the signing of Matt O'Riley to bolster the ranks in our creative positions last week and it's not a moment too soon as we contend ourselves with the absence of Tom Rogic and Daizen Maeda on international duty as well as ongoing injury concerns over Kyogo Furuhashi, David Turnbull and now captain Callum McGregor. A physical encounter with Alloa in the Scottish Cup on Saturday night hasn't helped our injury woes with Liel and Abada and Yosuke Ideguchi also picking up knocks on the night, but Celtic will have to dust themselves off very quickly as the challenges of Hearts at Tynecastle (Wednesday) and Dundee Utd at Celtic Park (Saturday) await before we then head into the second derby of the season next midweek. It's a crucial period in the title race and Ange Postecoglou has some big calls to make as he aims to navigate us through these fixtures with maximum points. Fringe players such as Giorgios Giakounakis, Liam Scales and Tony Ralston will be looking to play their part and we can also look forward to seeing new Bhoys Matt O'Riley and Reo Hatate take centre stage as the title race heats up. Tino, Paddy and special guest Hamish of 67 Hail Hail were on the mics this week to cover all of the above and more. Even with a few days to stew it over, Fulham's defeat at Coventry still stings. In this episode, we look a bit deeper at what went wrong up in the Midlands, as Mark Robins' side pressed us to death in the second half at the CBS stadium. We then take a look at Matt O'Riley following Peter's interview with him earlier this week in The Athletic. With the FFC academy graduate now excelling in League One for MK Dons, and tipped for further success - why exactly did it not work for him at Craven Cottage?
